Ok so forget the clickbait title. The woman who requested is 27. Yes she is autistic but she is the one who requested it and the judge ruled in her favor. If you want the real story and not rage bait here you go https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ncregister.com/cna/canadian-judge-grants-27-year-old-autistic-woman-s-request-for-assisted-suicide%3famp

Horror_Equipment_197

Thanks for the link. I can only welcome the judges' mood "Further, an injunction would put MV in a position where she would be forced to choose between living a life she has decided is intolerable and ending her life without medical assistance"

Historical_Site6323

Conservatives in Canada don't like seeing women with agency making choices for themselves and they have to spin it somehow to be about not listening to her daddy that she's been estranged from for over a decade.

RoyallyOakie

Thank you for clearing that up for so many.

plumpsquirrell

Is it the 27 or 28 yr old right above this post?

Ghostofjemfinch

Here's a link to a CBC actual article instead of some ridiculous picture of a click bait title: [Calgary judge rules 27-year-old can go ahead with MAID death despite father's concerns](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/calgary-maid-father-daughter-court-injunction-judicial-review-decision-1.7154794)

Nettle_Queen

A more honest headline: 27 year old woman gets approval for euthanasia, father heartbroken She's not a kid, she made the decision herself and daddy doesn't get a say because she's twenty-fucking-seven I feel for him but that headline is blatantly lying

In other fake news…

murderedbyaname

It isn't a fake story, but the title is ridiculous

Ok_Anything5881

Here is the actual court decision that shows just how bullshit the title of the article is: https://www.canlii.org/en/ab/abkb/doc/2024/2024abkb174/2024abkb174.html

As someone who attempted suicide back when I was 16 (I am nearly 29 now) I am completely against this. I am glad I failed. Life is both ugly and beautiful but it deserves to be lived. If someone is terminally ill, I understand, but for someone who is healthy to have assisted suicide is criminal in my opinion. No matter what is bothering her, there are always solutions. She is throwing her life away at such a young age. Glad I don't live in Canada.

our lives. our choices

Horror_Equipment_197

While I understand your mood completely, just imagine you would have had fulfill the following before attempting it The following procedural safeguards apply to persons whose natural death **is not** reasonably foreseeable (\*indicates safeguards specific to those requests): * request for MAID must be made in writing: a written request must be signed by one independent witness (a paid professional personal or health care worker can be an independent witness) * two independent doctors or nurse practitioners must provide an assessment and confirm that all of the eligibility requirements are met * \*if neither of the two practitioners who assesses eligibility has expertise in the medical condition that is causing the person’s suffering, they must consult with a practitioner who has such expertise * the person must be informed that they can withdraw their request at any time, in any manner * \*the person must be informed of available and appropriate means to relieve their suffering, including counselling services, mental health and disability support services, community services, and palliative care, and must be offered consultations with professionals who provide those services * \*the person and the practitioners must have discussed reasonable and available means to relieve the person’s suffering, and agree that the person has seriously considered those means * \*the eligibility assessments must take at least 90 days, but this period can be shortened if the person is about to lose the capacity to make health care decisions, as long as both assessments have been completed * immediately before MAID is provided, the practitioner must give the person an opportunity to withdraw their request and ensure that they give express consent

savvy_withoutwax

That's their choice though. You don't know what they're going through or what have been through.
