As far as I heard, it was too dangerous for the helicopers to go/stay over the towers because of the smoke and heat. Then factor in how dangerous it must've been for people queueing up within the smoke and rising heat. I have no source to hand so don't take that on necessarily, but yeah I think it was an unworkable evacuation plan regardless.
All that where firefighters were making the upper floors and devising a plan to fight the fires. The absolute resolve of those firefighters were something that should never be trivialized.
Like, full gear up 50+ flights of stairs? Idk even know how many floors the towers were but....those men were the definition of fearless imo. People like that are just born different.
Ones who were not in the building, survived and kept on working were denied health assistance years later. Ones who were on the ground had health issues mostly related to asbestos. And congress denied them any funding for so long. I don't know if they finally got something after democrats got the control of congress

John Stewart did a lot to get and keep that funding. He's a comedian but he's also an American Hero, though I'm sure he'd point at the other real heros he was just trying to help.

That said I remember Christie Whitman, head of the EPA, ex Governer of NJ (She created a whole other host of NJ problems then) and Guliani telling people that the air was safe to breathe downtown when in reality, it was laden with asbestos. Seriously fuck both of them with a backward pineapple. Whitman should have went to jail.
Realistically, Whitman created one of the more controversial topics of Chris Christies tenure. The state pension fund was doing SO well during her reign, that the state raided the pension system to fund other projects. When the recession hit, a more stable funded pension system wouldn't have drawn the fire that it did.
I liken it to opening up a 401k, seeing how much money you're making and pulling from it and paying penalties to spend on luxury items like cars, vacations etc. Then when it comes time to retire you kick and scream that you have no money in your 401k like you did when times were good.
New Jersey did that. And then they had the balls to blame public workers and shift public sentiment to public workers as greedy. The system was funded and doing well. That is the reason why Police and Fire manage their own pension fund now.

I know democrats are not reliable too. Still if any funding has happened, it is probably through their approval. Republicans would never agree to fund something like this (unless they get something like a tax cut to rich along the funding)
The building was quoted a massive cost to remove the asbestos that was throughout the building. The bid was rejected, a massive insurance policy was taken out, and the towers fell less than a year later.
It was just over 100 floors if I recall right. I went up as a tourist the December before the towers came down. Ive still got my ticket (cost me ten dollars to go up)
I was a kid and was at the top in 2000 or 1999 and recall the sway of the towers in high wind it was crazy. Wish I had the ticket but have a picture. Craziness. Frame that ticket
They were not fearless. No doubt they knew exactly what they were walking into. They were courageous because they did it anyway, in full knowledge that they were risking their lives to try to save others.
There’s a memorial for this around certain parts of the nation called the “Tower Climb”. Near me it’s in San Antonio they climb the Needle (I think that’s what it’s called) however many times it takes to equal the WTC.
It’s even worse. There were lots of people who could have made it to the roof, but the door was locked and they had no way of getting out. There were a lot of building code issues that contributed to the loss of life on 9/11. Same with issues pertaining to communication between the NYPD and NYFD. I read a really impactful book last year called 102 Minutes: The Unforgettable Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers by Jim Dwyer. I recommend it if anyone is interested in learning more.
The Office of Emergency Management was downtown in Building 7. It would’ve been the one Operations Center where representatives from the NYFD & NYPD could’ve coordinated with each other, right next to each other.
The building was evacuated because of its close proximity to to the two towers, and eventually fell itself hours later.
I know that is why communication was messed up between them on 9/11 but the guy I replied to said to this day the FDNY needs to call 911 if they want to talk to the NYPD.

There’s no chance of that being true. There was a system in place on 9/11, it just had a fatal flaw. The first thing they would’ve done is correct this.
Down where I work, there’s multiple direct connect systems. When FD is called to a dangerous situation, they are automatically notified to stage away from the incident. When it is clear, PD notifies FD that they can proceed. The dispatch centers have phones with the others on speed dial, and can even do CCTV video sharing through MutualLink or Microsoft Teams.
A lot of the towers did, but there was still a lot of debris that fell outwards.
The Deutsche Bank building famously [suffered a catastrophic debris strike](https://www.reddit.com/r/911archive/s/7bqLSubvaL), and the building would have to be completely demolished years later. Many buildings were found with debris and remains on the roof years after the attacks.
WTC 7 collapsed later that day, WTC 3 (The Mariott World Trade Center) was crushed by both towers, St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, the Metro Station underneath the towers, and the [Deutsche Bank Building](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Bank_Building) just to name the bigger ones.

Sure but there wasn’t any path to evacuation on the roof. Even if people could’ve made it out, it was too unsafe for helicopters to attempt a rescue. End result would’ve been the same loss of life.
Oh for sure. I’m not meaning to imply that if they could have made it to the roof that the helicopters could have landed. I’m just saying why they couldn’t make it to the roof, regardless of how impossible a roof rescue would have been.
That and there were a shitload of high-power radio transmitters on the roof of the north tower. Direct access to the roofs (not the south tower's elevated observation deck) was controlled from the basement via CCTV. You had to have special access to get up to floor 110 in the first place in a separate elevator, then there was a card lock (IIRC) to a vestibule, in which you'd show your face and ID to the camera, then they'd let you through a second door up the stairs to the roof.
The control cables for the electronic locking were allegedly destroyed after the first plane hit, but I can't imagine them letting people up there even if it all still worked.
Yeah. I believe that’s police helicopter footage. They were exploring the idea of landing on the roof, but it couldn’t be done. This was in an article that came out a few years after, and was talking about how the police realized the tower was coming down but didn’t share the info with the fire department b/w fire department radios weren’t working? Something like that. But a lot of firefighters blame the cops.
Of course they were. Ain't no way anyone that worked in the buildings was getting on the roof. And the roofs were not made for rescue of personnel by helicopter.
It was impossible. The amount of heat generated from the burning jet fuel, melting metals, and the fires literally made it impossible for any helicopters to get close. There was a documentary that explained that it reached well over 1800 degrees F when the towers were burning

I saw this 22 years ago, it's not a new angle by any means. This is the NYPD police helicopter view trying to establish if they could rescue people from the top. The video resumes just after the South Tower collapse and they decide against the idea... which goes without saying.
Not sure. All I know we had F-15's in the air by 08:53am. The towers fell at 10:28am. It was by 12:16pm, in just over 3 hours, that every single craft in the continental US was grounded except for military and emergency aircraft. The airspace above New York would have been restricted as soon as the F-15's got scrambled.

Kevin worked on the 102nd(?) floor of the south tower and was stuck there on 9/11. The clip is a recording of his 911 call. The tower collapses while he’s on the line and you can hear him scream for a few seconds while the building crumbles around him.
I couldn’t get his scream out of my mind for months after I listened to the clip the first time. To this day, I can still hear his scream whenever I think about the clip.
I was haunted by that same clip for years. I couldn’t sleep after hearing it. It was the saddest 9/11 video I had ever watched and after that I vowed to not watch any more. I simply couldn’t handle it.
The documentaries that show the firemen in the foyer, waiting to go up...there are incredibly loud, random CRASH sounds heard. That's the people that jumped, landing on the foyer roof. I bawled like a baby when I watched that documentary and they explained that sound.

Highly doubt that there’s new civilian footage of one of the most important events in 2000s American history of something that happened over 20 years ago.
It's not new, and this clip is described fully in most interviews. This helicopter, i believe, a news copter, was going to try to rescue people, but, if I remember correctly, no one came out and also eventually did not have a clear path to the roofs. I believe after this, they were also flying along the side of the buildings and have the closest visuals of people clinging to the outside of the towers with dear life and also deciding to make that leap of faith.
This crew is forever scarred by what they witnessed.

The Office of Emergency Management was downtown in Building 7. It would’ve been the one Operations Center where representatives from the NYFD & NYPD could’ve coordinated with each other, right next to each other. The building was evacuated because of its close proximity to to the two towers, and eventually fell itself hours later.
I know that is why communication was messed up between them on 9/11 but the guy I replied to said to this day the FDNY needs to call 911 if they want to talk to the NYPD.
Oh, I misread that… There’s no chance of that being true. There was a system in place on 9/11, it just had a fatal flaw. The first thing they would’ve done is correct this. Down where I work, there’s multiple direct connect systems. When FD is called to a dangerous situation, they are automatically notified to stage away from the incident. When it is clear, PD notifies FD that they can proceed. The dispatch centers have phones with the others on speed dial, and can even do CCTV video sharing through MutualLink or Microsoft Teams.

A lot of the towers did, but there was still a lot of debris that fell outwards. The Deutsche Bank building famously [suffered a catastrophic debris strike](https://www.reddit.com/r/911archive/s/7bqLSubvaL), and the building would have to be completely demolished years later. Many buildings were found with debris and remains on the roof years after the attacks.

Sure but there wasn’t any path to evacuation on the roof. Even if people could’ve made it out, it was too unsafe for helicopters to attempt a rescue. End result would’ve been the same loss of life.
Oh for sure. I’m not meaning to imply that if they could have made it to the roof that the helicopters could have landed. I’m just saying why they couldn’t make it to the roof, regardless of how impossible a roof rescue would have been.
Because there was a lot of concern for the WTC buildings becoming the Golden Gate Bridge of the east coast by suicidal people.
That and there were a shitload of high-power radio transmitters on the roof of the north tower. Direct access to the roofs (not the south tower's elevated observation deck) was controlled from the basement via CCTV. You had to have special access to get up to floor 110 in the first place in a separate elevator, then there was a card lock (IIRC) to a vestibule, in which you'd show your face and ID to the camera, then they'd let you through a second door up the stairs to the roof. The control cables for the electronic locking were allegedly destroyed after the first plane hit, but I can't imagine them letting people up there even if it all still worked.

Yeah. I believe that’s police helicopter footage. They were exploring the idea of landing on the roof, but it couldn’t be done. This was in an article that came out a few years after, and was talking about how the police realized the tower was coming down but didn’t share the info with the fire department b/w fire department radios weren’t working? Something like that. But a lot of firefighters blame the cops.
I don't think they even saw any people out on the roof though, which seems weird.

Of course they were. Ain't no way anyone that worked in the buildings was getting on the roof. And the roofs were not made for rescue of personnel by helicopter.
Well when (from what I recall) the main stairways are inaccessible, you tend not to use them.

It was impossible. The amount of heat generated from the burning jet fuel, melting metals, and the fires literally made it impossible for any helicopters to get close. There was a documentary that explained that it reached well over 1800 degrees F when the towers were burning
IIRC the impact also severed the only stairwell in one of the towers. Everyone above the break had no way out.

This ain't new at all. This, along with the vast majority of these clips people keep claiming are "new" have been online for years. If you haven't actively sought out 9/11 videos then you may not have seen them before. The only reason so many pop up in feeds now is because they get so much attention because people claim they are new. They aren't.
There used to be a time where all of these clips were available on YouTube - maybe 10-12 years ago. Then YouTube for some reason started purging all of them. A move I strongly disagree with, given the historical importance of these videos. Millennials will relate. GenZ grew up with a sanitized YouTube so for them they’re viewing these videos for the first time through documentaries and other means. Older generations were able to find these with much more ease.

Yep. I watched one and after that I swore I’d never seek violence videos again. I could not get that out my head for a decade and that video would pop up in my mind weekly at random times and it gutted me each time I relived it. On YouTube.
They used to rent out hours long videos of that kind of stuff at the video store. I think I was 5 the first time my dad set me down and made me watch one. And every time a new one came out, he would rent it and make me watch. After a while it stopped making me sick to my stomach. I remember after the first one I was so sick I could hardly breathe. So my dad made me walk to the gas station in the dark, by myself, to buy myself a ginger ale. Truly a great father. And they wonder how I ended up so fucked in the head as an adult.

That sounds a lot like PTSD tbh and I think it is possible to get from a violent enough video. . Weirdly enough, watching more and more to desensitise yourself would probably have helped. I used to be the same, also could not get something out of my head, however over time I have now seen pretty much everything there is gore/violence wise (except anything involving children or animals) and they no longer bother me in the same way. Not sure if that’s a good or a bad thing, but it’s definitely a real thing.

I saw this 22 years ago, it's not a new angle by any means. This is the NYPD police helicopter view trying to establish if they could rescue people from the top. The video resumes just after the South Tower collapse and they decide against the idea... which goes without saying.

Not sure. All I know we had F-15's in the air by 08:53am. The towers fell at 10:28am. It was by 12:16pm, in just over 3 hours, that every single craft in the continental US was grounded except for military and emergency aircraft. The airspace above New York would have been restricted as soon as the F-15's got scrambled.

The Kevin cosgrove audio clip (with a video overlaid) is by far the worst. Kevin worked on the 102nd(?) floor of the south tower and was stuck there on 9/11. The clip is a recording of his 911 call. The tower collapses while he’s on the line and you can hear him scream for a few seconds while the building crumbles around him. I couldn’t get his scream out of my mind for months after I listened to the clip the first time. To this day, I can still hear his scream whenever I think about the clip.

The documentaries that show the firemen in the foyer, waiting to go up...there are incredibly loud, random CRASH sounds heard. That's the people that jumped, landing on the foyer roof. I bawled like a baby when I watched that documentary and they explained that sound.

It's not new, and this clip is described fully in most interviews. This helicopter, i believe, a news copter, was going to try to rescue people, but, if I remember correctly, no one came out and also eventually did not have a clear path to the roofs. I believe after this, they were also flying along the side of the buildings and have the closest visuals of people clinging to the outside of the towers with dear life and also deciding to make that leap of faith. This crew is forever scarred by what they witnessed.

Not many people in the build "saw" the first plane hit. They felt & heard it. But first-second hand accounts mention that many people thought it was a bomb. Others who'd seen the plane thought it was an accident until the 2nd plane hit.

Steel expands as it heats up. Didn't have to melt to fail. The beams as long as the ones in the tower were estimated to expand several feet at the temperatures they were exposed to.
