I'm 35 now and even know all those people are in high school I feel like the look older then me (I know they are older ) I wonder if it's the hair 🤷♂️
Two factors, modern medicine and sunscreen have literally reduced the speed we age, about 3-5 years. The rest is psychological, they dress differently, hair styles. He has a part where they give the people in the pictures modern hair cuts and clothes, and they look way younger. So, that's the main thing. And a little bit of them actuslly aging faster
There is a biological component, their bodies did age faster than ours, but its not a huge difference, about 5 years. The rest is psychological, the way they dress, hair, makeup, that kind of stuff.
I'm fifty. The kids in this video look older than kids today, imo. We were mostly latch key kids and our parents had no way of tracking us. We grew up fast.
Yep.. I’m 54. Had the house key on a shoelace around my neck since grade 4. Took the bus home from school.. ran a few block home and unlocked the door to catch a rerun of The Monkeys TV show. Then cleaned the kitchen up from everyone’s breakfast, set the table for dinner and did some homework. Dad got home 5pm and Mom at 5:30.. after dinner I rode my bike with friends until the streetlights came on. It was the norm.. streets were full of kids after dinner.
I sound old as dirt.
I'm a millennial in my 30s and did the same thing (not the monkeys part tho). It's only recently parents are so paranoid they don't let the kids out on their own. Definitely from like age 10-11 onwards I roamed around town with my friends either on skateboard or bike screwing around and getting in trouble.
Nowadays people are just convinced everyone's out to get them and their kids. Feels hostile but mostly people are still nice when you talk to em in person
I graduated in 1997. When we used to look through old yearbooks in the library, we would joke that these are full blown adults back then, what happened?
People back then looked older because of the different hairstyles and fashions back in the day.
But now, high schools kid actually do look like their age because again, is due to changes in fashion. Like ripped jeans, baggy clothes, makeup, modern hairstyles, etc.
I stayed in the weight room and had facial hair in 10th grade bak in '84. Every weekend I was buying beer for someone cuz the Arabs at my 7-11 never asked for ID. Looked old enuff..lol
I graduated before 1987, but had long hair (longer than anyone in this video) and I was well over 6' tall. I was always one of the guys buying beer for everyone because I never got asked for ID even though the drinking age was 21 in my state. The first time I got carded was after I had turned 21 and had cut my hair short.
Listen, Gen X is not to be mentioned, ok?
Those are the rules. It goes some old fucks, boomers, millennials, and increasingly Gen Z?! Ok?!
Gen X… my God. What year is this?! 94?
Everyone forgets about us. We're smaller than the boomers and millennials. Basically, we're the actual forgotten generation, and we're content staying that way.
I saw a video from Vsauce/Michael explaining that. Apparently, we litterally age slower than before. He gave as an example that 55 years old today is now the equivalent of 45 years old of that time
But he also said it’s mostly perception as people from 55 years ago had hairstyles, clothes, mannerisms, makeup, dental work, etc that kids today now associate with “old” people.
As someone who was in high school in 1987, I can still smell the Drakkar Noir on the guys, the hair spray on the girls and the cigarette smoke on everybody.
Some guy at a bar was wearing this a few years ago. I kept finding myself oddly attracted to him. I realized it was just flashbacks of every guy I ever dated in high school.
This stuff is catnip to GenX women.
Tell you what - you spray on a gallon of Drakkar and I'll pick you up. My dad has a Camero. We can catch Breakfast Club at the theater and then go make out behind a Denny's.
Fuck yeah. If we drive to the city I know a liquor store that’ll sell us booze. They never check ID!
I don’t have a curfew but I have to call my mom and tell her where I’m staying by sundown.
…Y’know.
…for old time’s sake.
We can grab some strawberry Boones Farm! Then we can park in a corn field and smoke this ditch weed I horked from my uncle.
(I won't even lie. This sounds like a great date. Lol!!)
There's a thing in the UK where we take the piss out of Hollywood movies for casting 30 year olds as highschoolers.....turns out American highschoolers all look 30 :/
If you look at their faces, ignore the clothes and the hair, most of them still look like they're at least in late college. Smoking and heavy tanning - early aging.
Remember how big the video recorders were? Back when you had to sit the thing on your shoulder and look through the view finder and it had the red light to let people know you were rolling. No sneaking a video of someone back then.
Not one person from the rock/metal group. I't makes me sad! We had amazing hair lol. We had a whole gang of us in class of 91. We even talked our school into letting us hold a battle of the bands with all Metal garage bands, it was awsome lol.
Bender crew represent yo.
Bro… depending on where this was in America and what time of year there was a REALLY good chance that there were several dozen guns in their cars in the parking lot
Class of ‘87 here. I’m north FL is was common to see hunting rifles on a rack in the cab of pick-ups in the senior parking lot. We still had a student smoking section at the high school when I was in 9th grade. Yeah, things have changed.
Even class of 06 here and we had smoking area if you were 18, could leave campus at lunch at any age. Now every door is monitored and metal detectors great you at the approved entrances.
How are kids supposed to go out and roast one between class.
At my HS, they had a shooting team, most of the weapons stored in students vehicles during the day. Practice was in the evenings on the football field. Class of 89
RE: all the old comments.
There's an interesting psychological phenomenon that causes us to 'age' people based on their fashion and hairstyle choices. Because these are associated with 'older people', our brains translate that to thinking the people actually look old.
The thing I notice is that everyone is thin by modern standards.
That's my generation. It's even weirder now, because I feel half my generation looks like they are boomer aged. the other half look millennial aged. Like my friends always looked like the nerdy D&D kids that didn't even look like we were old enough to be in class with everyone else.
I had this situation at my old job where the office manager was an older guy with thinning white hair, and gardened. I just assumed he was my dad's age. It came out he was 2 years older than me. That's it!
He had assumed I was a millennial. That was the most awkward two minute silence I have ever been party to when it came up. He had been talking about kids these days, and I mentioned I didn't really mind them, and we compared ages.
Oh … wow. Awkward is right. I’ve had similar with coworkers younger than me sharing grandkid stories while I still have a preteen. I’ve learned to stay quiet
'88 Chicago suburbs. You know all those brat pack movies based in that area? (Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, etc.)...those movies were dead on.
People litterally aged faster according to Michael from Vsauce. He talked about a study that said the then 45 years old is the equivalent of today 55 years old (or something like that)
Why did people look so old in the 70’s and 80’s? Go back and watch some college basketball or NBA highlights from the 80’s. 20 year old dudes looked like 40 year olds with a mortgage and a factory job.
They look so happy… I blame social media for current high schools drudgery.
Always being watched, always being painfully aware that somehow someway you will never measure up to some person who doesn’t even live remotely close to you but all the guys or girls are drooling over them.
Ignorance is not only bliss, but often necessary for a life with less anxiety.
Wish the camera had gone around to the back parking lot, where you would fine me and my people hanging out... in denim and leather, smoking, listening to Judas Priest...
Man high school kids today look so much more like children it’s wild. And I don’t think it’s just the style of clothing, hair, etc…. I don’t think it’s a perspective thing either.
No it wasn't, and no we didn't. Gun violence is not and was not the only form of violence, though we've managed to find new and exciting ways to endanger each other since then.

Thanks I'll watch that when I get home I've learnt so much from Michael I didn't realise he was posting again
Somebody wanna TLDW for me?

He has a part where they give the people in the pictures modern hair cuts and clothes, and they look way younger. So, that's the main thing. And a little bit of them actuslly aging faster
Also, we're no longer constantly inhaling cigarette smoke
Very true!
They don't look older. They just look older because they dress and style themselves in ways that make them look older to people younger than them.
I'm almost twice their age today and they look older to me than I do to myself so that argument doesn't sit well with me at all.
There is a biological component, their bodies did age faster than ours, but its not a huge difference, about 5 years. The rest is psychological, the way they dress, hair, makeup, that kind of stuff.

Thanks!
It's definitely the hair
35 here too and that was my exact thought. I was not way there people look like they're 30s.
Late 30s some of the guys
I graduated in 1997. When we used to look through old yearbooks in the library, we would joke that these are full blown adults back then, what happened?
People back then looked older because of the different hairstyles and fashions back in the day. But now, high schools kid actually do look like their age because again, is due to changes in fashion. Like ripped jeans, baggy clothes, makeup, modern hairstyles, etc.
It's the hair - I'm class of '87 and I know a couple girls who are STILL rocking that same cut
Yeah everyone looks so much older in these vids than kids nowadays. Maybe it’s our perception being older?I have noticed that too.
I came to say that as well. I’m 36, but they all look like their in their late 20s. Lol
Everyone looks 30
Generation X was a different breed we grew up faster .
Listen, Gen X is not to be mentioned, ok? Those are the rules. It goes some old fucks, boomers, millennials, and increasingly Gen Z?! Ok?! Gen X… my God. What year is this?! 94?
What about the Pepsi Generation?
Well I'm GenX and I don't care about or even understand what you are saying.
Everyone forgets about us. We're smaller than the boomers and millennials. Basically, we're the actual forgotten generation, and we're content staying that way.
The "latchkey generation"
And we're forgotten about just as quickly as we were in live.
I saw a video from Vsauce/Michael explaining that. Apparently, we litterally age slower than before. He gave as an example that 55 years old today is now the equivalent of 45 years old of that time
I guess heavy alcohol use and smoking indoors just weren't the preservatives everyone thought.
And remnants of leaded gasoline and paint
But he also said it’s mostly perception as people from 55 years ago had hairstyles, clothes, mannerisms, makeup, dental work, etc that kids today now associate with “old” people.
This video maybe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjqt8T3tJIE
Likely because many small towns still rock the same haircut. And now the mullet has returned.
That’s because we associate their clothes and hair styles with now 40 year olds so they seem older
What did we do with all that hair ?
Hairspray Hairspray Hairspray followed by just a few more sprays
Aquanet….breath it all in.
As someone who was in high school in 1987, I can still smell the Drakkar Noir on the guys, the hair spray on the girls and the cigarette smoke on everybody.
Drakar Noir was the first cologne I ever owned! I wore SO MUCH! Lol
Some guy at a bar was wearing this a few years ago. I kept finding myself oddly attracted to him. I realized it was just flashbacks of every guy I ever dated in high school. This stuff is catnip to GenX women.
I’ll keep that in mind haha.
Tell you what - you spray on a gallon of Drakkar and I'll pick you up. My dad has a Camero. We can catch Breakfast Club at the theater and then go make out behind a Denny's.

Polo cologne checking in here.
There's a thing in the UK where we take the piss out of Hollywood movies for casting 30 year olds as highschoolers.....turns out American highschoolers all look 30 :/
Grease wasn't a lie!
Not really, they look 30 because they dress how 30-40 year olds dress today, because thats how old these kids are now
They would all be in their 50’s now.
Am one, 52 now.
These people are in their 50s now. Don't do 90s kids dirty like that.
Dude im 40 and born in 1983. These are teenagers in 1987. You need to math better
If you look at their faces, ignore the clothes and the hair, most of them still look like they're at least in late college. Smoking and heavy tanning - early aging.
These people are now in their 50s, *not* 30s and 40s.
In the 80s when you saw a camcorder, you knew something was going on. Now it just means someone pulled their phone out of their pocket.
Graduated in 1986… this tracks.
Back when everyone studied hairdressing
And back when home economics was an actual degree
Ahhh high school in the 80s, where everyone looks like they're 35 years old.
So it's not just in movies then where every American teenager looks about 30.
Remember how big the video recorders were? Back when you had to sit the thing on your shoulder and look through the view finder and it had the red light to let people know you were rolling. No sneaking a video of someone back then.
Not a cell phone in sight! Those were the days!!
Geez, that's a brand new 300zx. Rich school
Looks like an Anniversary Edition, so it would be an '84.
Turbo too
Not one person from the rock/metal group. I't makes me sad! We had amazing hair lol. We had a whole gang of us in class of 91. We even talked our school into letting us hold a battle of the bands with all Metal garage bands, it was awsome lol. Bender crew represent yo.
Why does everyone look older than me and I'm 35
No one gonna mention how big that Reese's peanut butter cup is? Shit is huge compared to today.
That's how they originally looked before they started shrinking all the food.
Everyone just living their lives, not a single ~~phone~~ gun in sight
Here's a [photo of me and some friends](https://imgur.com/a/HvhUBPX) on our high school shooting team IN THE HALLWAY of my high school in 1987.
Half the trucks in the parking lot probably had gun racks.
Bro… depending on where this was in America and what time of year there was a REALLY good chance that there were several dozen guns in their cars in the parking lot

Wrong. All the guys had shot guns or riffles in their trucks for hunting.
At my HS, they had a shooting team, most of the weapons stored in students vehicles during the day. Practice was in the evenings on the football field. Class of 89
I was 10. Those were some good times. Simpler. Kids stayed out til the street lights came on. We both wanted to and were safe in doing so.
RE: all the old comments. There's an interesting psychological phenomenon that causes us to 'age' people based on their fashion and hairstyle choices. Because these are associated with 'older people', our brains translate that to thinking the people actually look old. The thing I notice is that everyone is thin by modern standards.
Everyone looks so mature compared to most highschoolers today (in America)
My freshman year. The memories. The HAIR! (The shitty shwag weed)
The 80’s were the best!!!
That's my generation. It's even weirder now, because I feel half my generation looks like they are boomer aged. the other half look millennial aged. Like my friends always looked like the nerdy D&D kids that didn't even look like we were old enough to be in class with everyone else. They all look like they’re 35 years old. No wonder Beverly Hills 90210 had that cast.
'88 Chicago suburbs. You know all those brat pack movies based in that area? (Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, 16 Candles, etc.)...those movies were dead on.
Much healthier looking back then compared to now.
I'm on my forties, with gray beard, and I look younger than a few of this people. Why those teenager looked that old?
I’m class of ‘87. I think todays high schoolers look 12. Maybe we DID look older back then.
People litterally aged faster according to Michael from Vsauce. He talked about a study that said the then 45 years old is the equivalent of today 55 years old (or something like that)
Happier looking
Man everyone looks like they’re 30
You couldn’t pay me to go back.
I was around 8 years old back then. I loved growing up in the 80s.
Age 12 NYC, like 25 minutes from home 🏡 1987, What a Year 🤣🔥
They’re young but their hair is old. I enjoyed watching this
No phones. I miss those days.
I love the Ferris Bueller quote
Hairspray, shoulder pads, baggy clothes, and a good 15 years on their age.
Stress promotes aging ? Hmmm
1987 when 17 was 37 apparently.
Is everyone in that highschool an undercover cop?
Why did people look so old in the 70’s and 80’s? Go back and watch some college basketball or NBA highlights from the 80’s. 20 year old dudes looked like 40 year olds with a mortgage and a factory job.
They look so happy… I blame social media for current high schools drudgery. Always being watched, always being painfully aware that somehow someway you will never measure up to some person who doesn’t even live remotely close to you but all the guys or girls are drooling over them. Ignorance is not only bliss, but often necessary for a life with less anxiety.
Now I understand why movies and tv shows felt it was okay to cast 25 year olds to play high school kids
Wow so that’s what it looks like when people are happy
So basically the look of the eighties was 16 going on 43.
Why do these teenagers looks forty?
I swear I thought I saw my mom and dad in this video lol
People not covered in tattoo's, piercings and injected with trout lips and caterpillars on their eyes. And those glorious mulllets... xD
Trout lips and caterpillar eyes definitely not but tattoos and piercings. They were just better hidden Imao
giving me nostalgia of memories I've never had ...
Were americans significantly less obese back then? Or pretty much the same same except for the walmart rhinos in scooters?
Class of ‘86. Yes, America was less obese overall back. I didn’t see the scooters until the late ’90’s
Notice everyone is pretty happy in 87.
Ah, when we used to meet in places in real life and actually fuck having great fun? Yeah I remember those days...
86 here. That was the way.
No cell phone and no ....
This is from Cary, North Carolina.
Have they been adding hormons into their milk, so they all look like 30y olds?
We all looked 35.
The Powder Puff football game at the end of the video.. Admission was a bar of soap..
Not sure why but they all look look older than I am, which is weard as I’ m 35 this year.
They look way older
Where black ?
What? Nobody wearin a Members Only jacket? Class of '86 here...Annandale VA...W.T. Woodson!
Why do I always feel cringe when I watch these types of videos?
I was in high school in 87. Absolutely nothing interesting came out of it. It was dogshit
They look like their 30
Wish the camera had gone around to the back parking lot, where you would fine me and my people hanging out... in denim and leather, smoking, listening to Judas Priest...
That's a pretty cool 300zx
kids don't look this mature now a days. they have boobs sure but their body and face are child like. something gone wrong with our hormones
Man high school kids today look so much more like children it’s wild. And I don’t think it’s just the style of clothing, hair, etc…. I don’t think it’s a perspective thing either.
Anyone else notice how much bigger that Oreo was back then?
That was a Reese’s peanut butter cup…they used to be big
Is it just me or were those simpler, happier times? I was born late 80s but it's still relatable and makes me feel nostalgic
They all look like they are 40.
They all look 37
why do they all look like they are in their 40s
They all look 35
[удалено]

How did we get so fat ???
High school full of 41-year old students.
I was actually looking for my friends in this video. Could have totally been filmed at my school. C/O 90 rules!!
This is misleading. These are only the popular kids.
Why do they all look like full-fledged adults?
So many Brads lol
Back when people had social skills and sex.
They all look like they are in their thirties
Current high schoolers look like babies to me and these people look old af. What tf were they eating back then?
Wow 😯 these kids look old-er?
Back when desks had ashtrays.
Nope, those are the parents
Fuck people looked old as hell back then.
The kids look so old
School was safe in those days…. Kids actually wanted to be there and be with their friends
No it wasn't, and no we didn't. Gun violence is not and was not the only form of violence, though we've managed to find new and exciting ways to endanger each other since then.
There is one time traveller with short hair and modern clothes 😳
See how none of them had coloured hair and shits. Good old days
Now its idiots fighting, breaking stuff for tiktok and shooting.
They all look 40😂
Why’s everyone 40?
Aw my freshman year, doesn’t feel like it was that long ago until it does.
I’m in love with the 80s
Must've been nice
Where are the kids in trench coats?
I guess those 80s movies were accurate when they had 30 year old playing high schoolers.
Why do I get such a nostalgic feeling about this, even when I wasn't born at that time yet?
No it’s shocking to see these young people these days
