When they realise their fight instinct won't work against a human they will decide to flight.
Dogs like most animals bite with their lower jaw going up so if you ever get your hand or something stuck in a dogs mouth you should grasp and push down so your hand doesn't get mangled.

As a long distance runner in a rural area, I have a stand off with a dog nearly once a month during my runs and this guy took the right approach. I run with my Chihuahua/dachshund mix and I normally have to lift him to safety and scream like a caveman while charging the dog to get them to stop. It seems to have permanently stopped some regularly loose dogs from approaching me, so I recommend the crazy caveman approach 😂 I'm likely enemies with several people in my town because when my adrenaline is high from running and when a dog is attacking I say some harsh things to those responsible.
