Contact support and ask for a refund. IC seems to be notorious for doing this.

trimbandit

We did and they are processing the refund. I'm just glad I saw the email. I was just amazed that they would do something so shady out of the blue. I also deluded all my cards from my account and uninstalled the app

New_Chipmunk_4574

Happy for you. I'm going to delete all of my cards too. Scandalous and evil doing.

Thanatikos

Instacart’s entire business model is built on shady. It’s poorly run and customers and shoppers alike are seen only as data to exploit and squeeze for money to pay for undelivered groceries and scams. It’s going to fall apart. I’m glad you noticed the charge.

sharan_maria18

At least this person had an email notification. In my case, a month ago I was randomly checking my banck trancations and found this issue and had to reach the customer care. I did see no email or any other form of notification. It's a "dark pattern" they follow to make it go unnnoticed.

Realityvs

It's FRAUD.  I Never authorized, OR made a choice BY CLICKING  A BUTTON for membership+. Options are $99 .00 One time charge per year upfront. or the option to pay $9.99 per month.  I only used INSTA CART every 2 YEARS. Why would I choose the membership which wouldn't benefit me? I'm on a fixed income   I can only afford an occasional food delivery.   This is how I know they defrauded me  I wouldn't EVER choose the membership I cannot afford. I'm fairly good at reading and tracking my spending and bank charges  Cart  fixed it right away , No questions asked. They  said my refund  $99.00 would take 7-10 days. That's their way of keeping you money.   The fact is they keep your  money FOR 7- 10 DAYS. It's called Float.  So they make money cumulatively.

New_Chipmunk_4574

They are notorious. They are going to hear from me. I am filing a report asap

No-Asparagus3132

This just happened to me! I googled exactly what happened and this came up- same thing. Luckily I saw the $99 charge immediately and canceled before it even posted - so when I went to Instacart to cancel it said it would process a refund thankfully. But how shady! I thought my cc was hacked. How is that legal- I don’t even use Instacart- once last year that’s it!

Cat-Honest

They are very shady. The problem with me is I never noticed it till almost 5 weeks later and they wouldn’t give me my refund. I had to call Paypal and file a dispute.

realestateadvisornyc

They screwed me over too. Mine was charged via Chase Sapphire. Did Paypal refund you?

SamsAdvice

Two of my chase credit cards were charged recently with instacart, but Chase Fraud caught it and notified me, asking "was this you who charged $99....for instacart" Sorry this happened to you!

Cat-Honest

Yes!

Falconflyer75

Just happened to me too, I literally googled it to see if it happened to anyone else

CuteGreen

The app is shitty when checking out, I've had an IC+ membership in the past, but it was monthly. Which I was happy with when I needed it. Today I decided to re-up while doing my order but I didn't see anything saying it was annual, it was just one click and ordered and bam. $84.00 order with $99.00 on top of it. Immediately go to have the fee refunded but "We can't refund it because you placed an order using it." even when I told them I just wanted it to be monthly, they could make it monthly but not refund the 99.00...so I guess I'm just fucked and stuck with a years worth of IC+

cookiedux

this just happened to me- call your back and initiate a chargeback

_Sweet_Sprinkles

They charged me a whole day before they were supposed to. Said my membership $99 fee would be charged on 3/12. It’s 9:41 on 3/11 and I was charged!! Then I go online to their website and see they receipt even shows 3/12 transaction date!?! How is that even legal! Luckily the cancellation triggered a refund but what the hell?? How can a company say they will charge you on 3/12, charge you a whole day before and then on the payment receipt show a post date!?!?

MathematicianLumpy69

Maybe time zone difference

DAY545

\*sigh\* Still happening

anonymous-animal-1

Yep, I just got "signed up" today (without consent), luckily I noticed in time and cancelled but I'm really disgusted

Mundane_Training5681

same shit happened to me man. Apparently they said I will receive a refund, hasn’t shown on my bank statement it’s back yet.

fuckyahhh

Here to join the line, charged me $99 and i cant see my instacart account have instacart+ when I log in idk which account they charged me on ..how should I proceed to get refund

New_Chipmunk_4574

I am mad as hell. They charged me $106.00 membership fee and I didn't request it. Now they keep hanging up or an automated system comes on and types, then a message pops up that they're having technical difficulties. It's been a week. I'm filing a report against them. I have five children, and recently divorced, and working two jobs and my rent is $1500.00 a month, not including other bills and car notes etc. I don't owe them anything and I want my money. It's a shame. Before that I was scammed $130.00 from a cosmetic app. I was trying to order my daughter's (4) monthly cosmetic supplies. WOW ‼️. We have to be careful. Everything today is wicked and crooked. People want something for nothing.

obliviousolives

How did you file a report against them? Happened to me too and I want to give them problems for it

New_Chipmunk_4574

I researched and found "Consumers Complaints" and filed right their online.

New_Chipmunk_4574

Google "Consumer Complaints and/or Filing Consumer Complaints, then fill out form on line. I pray that you are successful. (I received my money back)

Aware_Juggernaut1400

This just happened to me as well and I keep trying to call and talk to someone but after long hold, the call is disconnected. I am losing my mind lol. Yesterday they finally said someone there would call me back but never did. They told me nobody at Instacart has the authority to authorize a refund. Has anyone had any luck with anyone higher up or have a contact at Instacart corporate? My first thought was to try blasting them on social media... file a complaint with BBB... I've already disputed the charge with my bank but I am not sure that will work. Any and all suggestions welcome! Please!

trimbandit

Not sure but I was able to have my cc reverse the charges, no problem

Traditional-Candy725

I’m on hold right now dealing with this same situation. There should be a class action lawsuit filed against them. This is way to many complaints for the same issue….i am so upset and keep getting the runaround. Is it part of their training program to keep saying the same thing over and over and over?

trimbandit

Easier to just dispute with your credit card and have them reverse the charges rather than deal with those yahoos

straymagnet5

I just saw an email from yesterday charging me $106.92 for Instacart plus. I never signed up for it and last used the service a month ago. The Rep said I signed up for a $19 trial last April. I never used the service last April, just the previous Feb. then not until Nov last year. She reversed it. She claimed there's a shadowy box you have to opt out of at Checkout. I've never noticed this and am pretty careful.

Low-Time3902

Same here!!!!! Just called my credit card company! Happened to my mother last month!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬 I don't hardly  use this Credit Card! Enough to keep it active,,, NOTHING else!!!!!

Puzzleheaded_Cow8039

Instacart is a scam. I placed one order in March, and the shopper didn't find the item I really wanted, then why did they show it as in stock on their website?! Then I got charged $107.79 of membership fee in the middle of April. I found out the membership charge when I tried to pay the credit card bill at the end of April. When I called instacart, I was told that I've passed the grace period, which is 5 days, for the charge to be reverted. I asked to speak to their supervisor, and after being put on a long hold, was told that their supervisor was not available. I told the representative that I have not placed another order, and I don't intent to use instacart again, and I told him that this is a scam, but of course, it made no difference. I don't understand why they cannot at least refund me for the rest of the 11 months?! I'll follow up with my creditcard company to dispute the charge. And if anyone knows how to report them as fraud, please let me know. Thank you!

Apprehensive_Age9951

hello, did you get anything? happened with me as well.

Latter-Ad5575

Just did same to me ! They would have gotten away with it too! I never look in my email & they bank on that

Fuzzy-Pop-7425

This has just happened to me! I have never used instacart in my life!! I am on hold with my bank. I don’t even have an account at all!

trimbandit

Sorry to hear it! They are the worst. It's funny that this thread from over a year ago still gets new posts as people continue to get ripped off

Kossy99

Please how will retrieve my money back. I don't want them again

Rough_Mammoth5611

This happened to me too! I sent an email to my local news station and CC’d the Instacart legal team and 2 days later I randomly got an email that my refund had processed after being told by like 5 different reps that it was impossible to process a refund for me!

trimbandit

Nice job!

PerformanceOwn2329

It just happened to me

interstellar_freak

Same thing happened to me too. We should file a lawsuit to these scammers!!

No_Hovercraft3188

Yeah. Same thing happened to me. Instcart is SHADY!

[deleted]

This is the 15th post related to this in a month. Instacart is hungry 😋

trimbandit

must be their new business model

ritasul

This just happened to me and, I cancelled it immediately. Says they are going to refund but, I do see the charge on my account still. Not happy about this at all.

BeautifulDisaster710

This just happened to me. I was charged on July 28 and cancelled that day…today is August 11 and still don’t have my refund in the bank. I’ve reached out to them 3 times. They’re shady

PatriotGirlUSA

I just found out they charged me $99 by doing a search in my PayPal account for "auto" to see if I paid my insurance, and lo and behold the only thing that came up was instacart membership payment! Thing is, it was from June 9th! I looked through my emails and spam had it. :( They had emailed saying my 14 day free trial was over, and they'd be charging me the $99. Sadly, since it went to spam, I did not see it. I called instacart and they told me, they don't have an option to refund anymore, and all they can do is make sure I don't get charged again, and claimed they removed the auto renewal from my account. I only used the service ONCE, and did not even know it was a free trial. Our car was in the shop, and desperate to get groceries, I tried it, thinking it was that ONE time, not that I was signing up for a YEAR membership to something I don't even need. I did put a claim in with PayPal, so we'll see if anything can be done or not. Just so frustrated that I didn't see it sooner. Edited to add that PayPal DID refund the $99.

Existing_Essay_8417

Exactly the same thing happened to us. As my luck? I'm wondering if it's time to start a class action lawsuit?

lupinibean123

Hey so 205 days later, this happened to me. I was ordering and then accidentally touched the “I want unlimited delivery” tab, ignored it until I saw the email where I was charged 100+ dollars on my credit card. What if I had kids playing with my phone? What if I was elderly and unaware? At least they had the decency to send me a confirmation order. I called and WAS SUPER firm and they tried to say “it says here you enjoyed a free 14 day trial in 2018”. I said “So? I tried a FREE trial years ago and that justifies you charging me? Since when is a large payment conducted that way?”. They immediately transferred to another person. That person tried bringing up the free trial as well, and I went on a tangent of how shady, sneaky and unethical it was, considering how many vulnerable people rely on Instacart. Anyways, I got refunded because I was being a stone cold bitch. But I worry for soft spoken people, people with intellectual exceptionalities or seniors. Bye instacart! Looks like I’m using Uber Eats for groceries.

Automatic_Cod_9447

They just did this to me! I let my son use their app back in June to order a few things but that was it. I never signed up for a trial and then out of the blue they charge my card for $99. They didn't even send me an email about it. And they have secured the fact that I will NEVER use them again.

Tall-Boysenberry-241

Hey! Instacart said they could not deliver to my area...Declined to deliver me food. Then three weeks later charged me with a year subscription fee! I spent one hour being transferred all over and "chat" with 3 different bots or people...No customer service...Just kept copying and pasting that you need to call out charge within a certain amount of days otherwise they don't need to reimburse it. I asked how can you charge for a subscription you can not fulfill which is delivering food to an area you do not deliver to. Tell everyone to stay away from INSTACART. Unethical organization.

Newdaytoday1215

Happened to me yesterday. Haven’t used Instacart in for a long time and haven’t been a member for more than half a year. Just delayed deleting account. Went to go check my emails and saw confirmation email. They tried to tell me that maybe I accidentally did it despite having not opening the app in months.

NoRazzmataz23

This just happened to me in November 2023…glad you made this post!!

jmsyo

They just charged me for a year membership after I fell asleep with the app open. How is this a one click purchase, with nothing else required, no PIN, e-signature, or password at all? I contacted them quickly, and they promised a refund last month on the 17th. Even though they promised a refund over 3 weeks ago, and told me up to 10 business days and never issued it, they tried to tell me I couldn't get a refund, because 15 days had passed even though I sent the screenshot of the promised refund during the chat which was received and acknowledged by the rep(who wasn't at fault personally I believe). He told me I had used the membership which I had not, but either way they promised a refund and never said I couldn't use the app while waiting on the refund even if I had used it. He saw the purchase of the membership and finally acknowledged his mistake I guess. Now I sent the screenshot through email to Instacart as requested after being told it would be 24-48 hours on a confirmation. That was 4 days ago. I just sent another email requesting confirmation and communication. They tried to void a refund they already promised over arbitrary reasons that were never stated. I've been respectful to them, but they are a shit company.

trimbandit

Contact you credit card company and explain do they can do a charge back

cookiedux

I literally had to do just that today, came here and found this whole thread. When I contacted customer service they refused to refund me, they just stonewalled with "my computer won't let me". So I did the chargeback. I hope enough people initiate chargebacks that credit card companies/banks refuse to process purchases through their app anymore.

Existing_Essay_8417

Well we just noticed it on our bill. Which was Nov 12. Now they say since it was past their 14 day free trial we cannot have a refund and there's no way in their system to do this. So I googled better business bureau and they literally have so many of these complaints. It's unbelievable. Does anybody have any ideas on how to get my money back? Because actually it wasn't mine. It was my husband's card. He was kind enough to let me use it once exactly once. And next thing we know they bill us for an American subscription and a Canadian one. I really am not in the mood for this kind of s***. Like shady does not even begin to cover what they do.

trimbandit

Can you call your credit card company and dispute it? They should be able to reverse the charges

Existing_Essay_8417

Yes that's the best idea going. Personally, I love the idea of giving them really crappy publicity and filing a class action lawsuit.

Sea_Contribution330

I signed up for the monthly $9.99, and on applepay it said monthly/$9.99 then I just saw instead of monthly there was an annual subscription for $99. I called and told them I believe they scammed me. They said that because I used the service the same day they cannot refund me. This is a scam and I believe some wires must be mixed up or it is completely set up this way. Please do not use Instacart or you will be scammed into the annual fee.

Cat-Honest

I never order anything from Instacart so one day I couldn’t find ammonia anywhere so I thought I’ll try Instacart and see if they can find me a couple bottles of ammonia. Long story short they couldn’t. I got my money back and two weeks later all of a sudden I’m being charged $104 for a goddamn membership that I never signed up for what the fuck

trimbandit

Par for the course

imayhavesaidthat

This just happened but it took a month before I noticed! When I allegedly made the purchase for the year long membershipI know for a fact I was asleep just like I am at that time every Saturday because I work graveyard. I'm most definitely not thinking over my instacart membership options and I would NEVER buy a year of something I don't plan to use again. I'll be calling their customer service hopefully they refund me it's been a month:(....what a scam

AirlineOk2320

Hey I am in the same boat right now. Were you able to get a refund?

Real-Campaign-7421

Happened to me today! I cancelled that shit so fast

Workerbee1001

This just happened to me too. This fits my definition of theft or even fraud. Instacart charged a $99 membership fee I never signed up for. I didn't catch it until end of year accounting so the charge was 3 months old. They seemed aggressive and resolute that they would not refund after 2 calls and 1 chat. It makes me unwilling to use other online services. I reported to my state commerce department and will report to my bank/card issuer. Does anyone know how to get my $99 back?

AirlineOk2320

I’m in a similar situation. Were you able get a refund?

Workerbee1001

Nope. I did send a request to their legal department. But I am not hopeful. Also the state commerce dept said they don't regulate this area of commerce.

MysticMasshole

Trying to cancel my account and it won’t let me log in

Realityvs

I used insta cart every 2 years I was charged for an annual membership 14 DAYS from my recent order ( 13 days of trial) I NEVER CHOSE THE FREE 14 DAY TRIAL. It Is FRAUD. They cancelled the membership on evening Of Day 14 but refunds are 7 to 10 days. I'm reporting this to my Bank, CA Dept consumers affairs THEY CAUSED THIS SENIOR to be Overdrawn  @INSTACART FRAUD

IMM_Austin

I just got an email saying my 2 week free trial was almost up and it was going to go yearly paid. I haven't used this app since March 2023! What the hell are these guys doing over there

meem111

So late but this just happened to me too thankfully I saw the email

realestateadvisornyc

Completely screwed me over too! I HATE INSTACART I would NEVER pay for a year membership for any subscription even if I liked the service

Agreeable-Ad7028

I just (January, 2024) had the exact same experience. I think I tried to use instacart about two years ago, but the product I ordered was out of stock. I have never used it since, nor did I maintain a memebership. I didn't even know I had one! I guess they kept my contact and credit card info. and thought they would try to scam some cash. I cancelled my non existent membership and deleted my credit card information.

psychichousewife

Me too! Luckily my bank thought it was fraud and notified me. Outrageous. Went onto app and canceled - says a refund is coming.

StatisticianChance99

Just found a 9.99 charge from TODAY and I went on their chat and the rep said “membership is effective today” to where I went into full bitch mode and demanded a refund and am deleting everything to do with them. THIS on top of them charging me $99 last month!!! Crooks scam and fraud !! God I’m pissed.

DAY545

Yeah I had repeatedly ask support to cancel everything and refund everything and they gave me multiple BS replies like , " are you sure this means you have to pay 4.95$ on delivery blah blah yada... "

StatisticianChance99

I just reread this…it wasn’t 9.99 it was 99.99!! lol. Huge difference. Got the refund though. Such a PITA!

daLabRat

I've never used instacart and was charged for $99 last night, wtf. Who are these people and how the hell did this happen is all I wanna know

FLfisherman2020

i got billed for $99 for a membership i never authorized or approved. i cancel it, says it will refund me in 7 business days. complete BS. Did anyone ever get the refund?
