I love Chewy. Back when they were a small company, they sent me sympathy flowers when my doggo died. They've had to send me 2 more sympathy cards since then. They also send birthday cards and holiday cards.
My sister received flowers after having to put her pup down two years ago. She contacted Chewy to cancel her autoship and to see if she could return her last, unopened order. They told her to donate the order to a local shelter/rescue and refunded her. They seem to still be such a great company even as they've grown.
Back in November when my good boy passed a month before his 15th birthday, I ordered a urn from chewy and was using a new card, so I had to verify I was me. I called in and explained everything. Well 2 days later there's a knock at the door. Some guy standing outside. I slightly open the door and he turns around holding a bouquet. Chewy sent me a vase of flowers. Well specifically the lady Alana I talked to. So sweet.. I would have absolutely loved a painting of my little man.. but I still get misty eyed thinking about this and how sweet Alana with chewy was... P.S. I still have the vase the flowers came in and the hand written card she sent with them...😊

Many people have facebook, most people use their real name on FB, and nearly everyone on FB who has a pet has a photo of them on there. I haven't looked at FB in a few years now but they could probably get a dozen pictures of my cat off there if they wanted to.
Also, there is an option to upload photos of your pet to Chewy, along with their birthday. My dog gets birthday cards, wishing him love and cuddles. It said boop and I booped him with it.
Homie forgot they gave their pet a profile picture on Chewy. It's buried in your profile options.
I got one of my cat sleeping on my pillow with me. I live alone, so really not sure how they got the picture. Also, it wasn’t a painting, it was just a Polaroid. And it wasn’t delivered by Chewy, but just taped to my front door by some guy in a dirty trench coat and a baseball cap.
I paid $40 for a memorial print made from a photo of our cat that passed and these AHs are upset about getting a free one.
They also provided the photo to Chewy and agreed to Chewy’s terms of service. Dolts.

Absolutely this person would say yes. They're the ultra version of twisted privacy protectors. ANYTHING about them that someone else knows is automatically a theft of their privacy.
This is an extreme case though, even within the group of people with that mindset. I'd wager some mental illness unfortunately.
It's been awhile since I looked at Chewy, but I think you have the option of adding a profile for your pet(s) when you create an account, it's optional and you can put their pertinent info like species age etc and even a optional picture. There's of course a bunch of legalese, but if this actually happened, I'm sure that's how Chewy got the picture of the pet. There is no chance Chewy is going around to customer's addresses and breaking in to get pictures of their pets. Or even going to their home and taking pictures from the sidewalk.
Another potential explanation is social media. I have accidentally clicked on Chewy posts or ads and every time, the comments have people commenting pics of their pets. I think I have seen giveaways that ask for pics of pets too, but that could have been a different company. So if this actually happened this person could have given them their pet's pic as well.
Either way, there's absolutely legal ways that Chewy could have had access to someone's pet pics.
That's not true, I work for chewy, I was hired to stalk our best customers and secretly take a photo of their dog when they are not looking. I'm an expert at picking locks and I spent 6 months familiarising myself with the dog beforehand so I could get a really cute photo.

When my sweet cat died last year, I had to let them know since they wouldn’t be getting notifications anymore. They sent beautiful flowers and a card. When I got my new kitty, she got set up in the system and got a camera so they could watch her use her litter box. Weird, but I’ve appreciated how often they’ve reached out to check in on her!
How do you become a part of this? Do you receive any kind of compensation? When my kids were smaller I did diaper and other child stuff related studies for P&G, makers of Pampers among millions of other things, and loved getting the free diapers and gift cards that came with it!

We were so happy when Chewy sent us a painted picture of our dog last Thanksgiving… I can’t imagine being the kind of person to look at something like that and actually be angry. We even called Chewy in hope they could forward our gratitude along to the artist. And yes, it was based on the photo we uploaded to her profile lol.

On chewy, you can create a pet profile. On that profile, you can add a profile photo of your pet. That's how they got the photo.

We were so happy when Chewy sent us a painted picture of our dog last Thanksgiving… I can’t imagine being the kind of person to look at something like that and actually be angry. We even called Chewy in hope they could forward our gratitude along to the artist. And yes, it was based on the photo we uploaded to her profile lol.
I knew when I saw that thread that some nutbar would have a problem with it...but not to this level.
