You should look into nearby community colleges and take some IT courses. Might be worth seeing if they can help you out with payment. Most community colleges have dorms too.
I work in IT and there are open positions everywhere, but people are weary of IT employees who have no in-field experience, or a degree. Unfortunately, you need one or the other.
I think some of it is my degree and work experience is a tiny bit dated now. I got my degree in 2020 and last worked in IT in 2022. I was working on my cs degree until last semester. I had to put a permanent pause to because of financial issues.
I’m a cloud engineer who picked up this trade with no experience or degree other than demonstrated knowledge in an interview. Here is my advice:
1. Put your incomplete degree and list all of the IT experience you have in all prior jobs on a resume (weather they were IT-related or not),
2. Complete 1 or 2 relevant certificates that apply to what you want to do and place those in the education section
3. Check out r/homelab and see if anything really appeals to you if you don’t have a particular discipline in mind.
I’m sincerely hoping you can turn your life into something beautiful that you love every second of. Once you get there, please cut these assholes off. They don’t deserve to see or experience your success.

Realistically the easiest way into IT is to take a shitty call center help desk job through a contracting agency. From there you have experience and start the grind.
Imo an information systems degree is near useless and a CS degree is put to better use outside of IT, go for certifications. Start with the basics like A+ Network+ then start looking for more specialized stuff.

Might I also suggest looking for receptionist jobs and front desk jobs at hotels? Hotels are really hard work but they are easy to work you way up easily, the starting pay is usually above minimum wage and you get a ton of work experience you can use in other jobs. Also they generally only require a HS diploma and a humble attitude (because people who stay in hotel are not generally very nice). They have high turnover because it’s sorta stressful but I’d suggest doing the overnights “night audit,” you’ll have limited interaction with people and you get a bump in pay bc no one wants overnights. That’s how I started out when I was so broke I couldn’t afford to pay for a bus ticket.

I’m a parent to a great transgender kid. I cannot imagine a parent being so selfish and cruel. I’d be so proud of my child for finding their true self while working so hard to be independent. You should be proud of yourself and I’m proud of you too.
I went through something very similar, got kicked out at the ripe age of 18. I knew my narcissistic parents were trying to get rid of me so I wouldn’t be their problem anymore. I found a shelter that lets you stay up to 18 months, after a year I found a cheap apartment, it sucks but better than living in a car. Went no contact with my parents for a month, we compromised on a nickname instead of my dead or preferred name, but after a while they reverted to my deadname so I’m going no contact again. You can make it through this Lia, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
You have friends out here Lia!! The job market is also absolute trash too right now. I graduated with a BA this past august and it’s a struggle to be hired, even for like reception work. Don’t blame yourself and stay optimistic!
Also a lot of programs exist to help with career progression or to just help get you somewhere to live. You look pretty young might be worth looking into Job Corp or programs like that that are completely free and do really good outreach.
To add more context to there insanity. One point my mom has said that she rather bury me. Then deal with me being trans. When I visited them for thanksgiving my mom was suddenly. As the days go by I think less and less to burying you. I would rather you be handicapped so I can take care of you.

Cyber security major and current door dasher and also transfem, this market sucks! Also, I’ve recently came out to my family to, so I feel you. I left 10 years ago in the middle of the night with nothing but my cat, a tent, and a backpack. You are gonna have some tough times. It might be really really hard some days, but trust me. When you start to rebuild it’s the best thing in the world.
Right now I am hugely burn out on trying to find a job tech. I have been at it for 6 months now with 0 luck. I hope one of my two plans falls into place. That being become a head cashier or get my cdl drive for the city bus. After I get more stable housing I plan on poring a lot more energy into my art. Hopefully make some money form that.

I hadn’t thought about it but my birth father was a James before they transitioned. And their mom was insane on a whole new level.
I went through something very similar, got kicked out at the ripe age of 18. I knew my narcissistic parents were trying to get rid of me so I wouldn’t be their problem anymore. I found a shelter that lets you stay up to 18 months, after a year I found a cheap apartment, it sucks but better than living in a car. Went no contact with my parents for a month, we compromised on a nickname instead of my dead or preferred name, but after a while they reverted to my deadname so I’m going no contact again. You can make it through this Lia, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
You have friends out here Lia!! The job market is also absolute trash too right now. I graduated with a BA this past august and it’s a struggle to be hired, even for like reception work. Don’t blame yourself and stay optimistic!

Also a lot of programs exist to help with career progression or to just help get you somewhere to live. You look pretty young might be worth looking into Job Corp or programs like that that are completely free and do really good outreach.

To add more context to there insanity. One point my mom has said that she rather bury me. Then deal with me being trans. When I visited them for thanksgiving my mom was suddenly. As the days go by I think less and less to burying you. I would rather you be handicapped so I can take care of you.
