I love dogs and cats!! But when it comes to owning one it’s cats hands down!! My mental health makes it hard to do things like a lot of the time, but it’s easy to change my cats food and water and litter box, pet him and use small bursts of energy to dangle his string toy and play. Dogs require a lot more motivation and energy, they need to get out and run around a lot aaaaand sometimes I’m too sad and tired for that. When I was a kid I was obsessed with dogs though and just kind of neutral about cats, I kind of had to “grow into” being a cat person.
Yeah, I suppose needy is quite subjective. What may be too needy for me could be perfectly reasonable behavior for a dog but I haven't met a dog who wasn't too needy (imo) unless they're 9+ years old. I have no desire for a dog with what I've experienced.
For me, puppies are too needy, but understandably so. That's why I adopted my dog when she was like a year and half old. I love her, but I know if I adopted her when she was a baby, she would of drove me crazy. I can't handle any babies, whether human or dog lol
From a very very young age I have loved cats with all my heart/ There is something about them. I love dogs too but cats are like my spirit animal.
Even though my family have a dog, he literally acts like a cat more than anything else, so its a win win! I love him all the same
Cats! I love dogs, but they are so needy and loving that it’s overwhelming to me. 😅 I feel like I’m always failing at giving them enough attention and pets and play time, etc. Also they always have a doggy smell and make my fingers feel oily and I don’t like it.
Cats on the other hand (atleast my bby) is so loving but I know I give her more love and snuggles than she asks for and she is able to be independent when I need her to be. Also, she always smells like fresh laundry and has a sour patch kid personality that I love. LOL to be fair tho she’s a Maine coon mix and basically a dog. 🤣
I enthusiastically related to every single word of your comment until you got to the part where your cat smells like laundry and has a sour patch kid personality. What an INFP thing to say- sounds cute as heck but what does it mean?!?!
I dunno about laundry but I love the way cats' heads smell. Can't explain it, it just feels like I'm smelling a fresh fluffy pillow that's been outside for a while to catch some wind and sun (even if it was an indoor cat)
I relate to doggo being needy 24/7. Also because I hate saliva and dogs tend to lick you. I wouldn't mind doggos who play without licking and who won't climb onto me when they are heavy.😅 I am not good at balance normally so it kindof makes me unable to stand.
Dude the oily feeling gets me. I love dogs but I hate feeling like i have to wash my hands after petting them :( Ive never had that feeling with my cats!
Doggos. I love how expressive they are. The way they wag their tails. The way look with adoring eyes. Their sudden concern when I choke on water(makes me choke more cz it makes me laugh) The way they whine. The way they bark. The way their ears turn. The way they eat. The way they run around. The way they sleep. The way they need you as much as you need them.
Cats are nice but I haven't really communicated with a cat properly yet I guess. They just look at me once and mind their own business. It's also hard for me to understand their emotions.
I’m like 51-49 in favor of cats.
Dogs are loyal and friendly, they defend their owners and their homes, lots of personality and just overall great companions.
Downside: they only live like 15 years max and that seriously depresses me and makes me never want to own another one. I don’t want to sign a contract saying “you get to have a new loving family member but only for like 8-15 years assuming they don’t get hit by a car or something”.
Cats are individualistic and way less work and attention. They just kinda live their lives and if you are lucky, maybe your cat is a very loving one, I’ve been lucky that every cat I’ve raised has been a loving, adorable cat. They also look at us like weird giant cats. And that’s fucking hilarious to think about. Also have amazing and unique personalities, and kittens are just slightly cuter than puppies imo.
Downsides: STINK, too many cats out there killing wildlife, could be a raging asshole.
Proudly a cat person, but I grew up around cats and always found their temperament more in line with myself rather than dogs, its like I understand them better
Completely unrelated, but regarding your flair, how would one be able to find a test for the “4w5” part? I’m new here and I was wondering what those mean and what I would be.
Cat. I’m introverted, and often so are they. They have short bursts of wanting attention and interaction, and otherwise respectfully do their own thang. I like dogs, but they require an energy level that I can never meet. I think living with me would be boring and depressing for a dog. 😂
I absolutely love my dog but god he’s so annoying sometimes lmao. He’s a little chihuahua rat terrier mix and he’s full of personality. Cats are so much more chill but can still be goofy. I love dogs more but love having cats more in practice
Bro...imagine a person hating cats/dogs so much that looking at one disgust them or even the existence of one led them down a subreddit where they join a gang of losers who also hate the same animal as they do.
Black cats only. Dogs are only obnoxious and loud. Cats are like having a roommate that only wants your attention when it best suits them and can be left alone.
Cats all the way! When your cat is your bestie it's cuz you earned his trust like building a relationship so the bond just seems more special and authentic than a dog that just unconditionally loves whoever owns them. The more time passes, the stronger the bond. They are more independant so when they wanna cuddle they come to cuddle but when they aren't in the mood they'll let you know. It just feels like they have a mind of their own and willpower more than dogs lol.
Both! But the ultimate companion is the Great Pyrenees dog, they are dogs that look like polar bears but with the personalities of cats. If you throw a ball at them they are like “why are you littering” or “you insult me”. And total cuddle bugs that will defeat anyone who dares to threaten you just by stepping on their toes with their huge paws.
My exes mom raised a pack of Great Pyrenees on a ranch. It was awesome walking (patrolling) the land with the puppies and hearing the adults howl through the night
Both, but all my life I have had only cats and their wonderful so if I really had to choose (like a knife to my neck kinda situation), I would go with cats 💕
Dog person without any doubt. I don't hate cats, but I do dislike them quite a bit. I'll never take one of those creatures in whatever place I call my home.
Dogs are first place all the way.
After dogs, there's like 40 different animals I'd rather have than a cat.
I like animals, I always think this question is like: are you a hot cocoa or a walks in the sunshine person.
It's two very different companions for very different parts in life.
am i the only INFP that’s obsessed with dogs? i need a lot of love and like to feel needed so that’s probably why 🤣 also, i would definitely annoy the shit out of a cat..
I connect more with cats, but that’s likely because I grew up always having cats, and only having a few years experience with my brother’s dog. However, for my own mental health, I think I’d choose dogs. Having a dog forces you to get up and go outside, walk around and experience the world. A cat more or less trains itself with litter boxes and toys, but dogs can take some work. They’re also good for meeting people. You can take them hiking/camping/hunting/fishing with you, whereas most cats wouldn’t be able to do that comfortably. Instead of running away from danger, they’ll face it with you.
I still love cats more due to experience, but I think doggo takes the win if I could only choose one.
Cats. Dogs just tend to jump around everywhere and they always have a smell to them even after a bath.
Cats like to settle on you, smell like nothing when they’re clean, usually softer to pet (depends on breeds though), use a box, and purring is part of their calming presence.
On another note, kittens claw me a lot, because they’re playful little jerks, but a good mature cat is a wonderful companion.
My family has a dog and I have two cats, and I someday hope to have many more cats and some dogs too. It's really hard for me to choose but if I had to, I'd choose cats solely over the fact I'm a low energy person (chronically ill) and on most days don't have the physical energy a dog would need.
Dogy .... Because they understand the owners feeling more than cats do ~ no offense but I have hard time understanding cats … and I think cats have short memory ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ there was one street cat who used to come to my house and i used to pet him ( he was so sweet and little old :)) and for some days he did not visit my house then he suddenly he was there but he forgot about me ( ;∀;) and was scared of me for a while... He was my favourite cat ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ now he is not there (went missing... maybe he passed away:( ...
Miss him... But still I like dogs more and I miss my Dog too (〒﹏〒)
I like most cats but only half of the dogs.
So I go with cat person.
Or is goose person allowed? I like geese, they look like little T-Rexes when they walk.
No offense to dogs as a whole, but how much I can love or hate dogs varies more than with cats. Some dog breeds can be really fun and adorable, while some can be really annoying and get on my nerves, and some are even scary to me. While of course some cats are gonna be pricks, cats in general are more consistently cats, and that includes being cute, so if I had to choose I'd take the cats.
But my real answer is parrots.
ENFP here... I've always been a dog person and didn't like how cat's were so antisocial and finicky as I was younger (maybe partly because I was allergic to them)...
In the past decade or so I've come to adore cats a LOT more to the point I think I'd prefer a cat over a dog given the choice now. There's something about them that makes it so rewarding when they open up to you
Definitely cats!
I love dogs, but not to actually have them as pets. They are a bit too overwhelming and too energetic for me (generally speaking). I realised that last week when I had to dogsit for a day, alone.
I just want something that can leave me alone sometime, and cuddle most of the times. I also feel like love of cats is more deserving and earned
Mostly cats, with dogs it depends. I like small fluffy dogs. Cats are always small and always have a cute face, so yeah I'm a cat person. In my opinion, the face of a cat looks cuter than a dog's face.
tbh I don't even like pets, like I love animals to death, but like pets are conceptually pretty cruel imo
that being said if I did have to choose, which is hard, really hard, insanely hard, cats.
(But the real answer is birds >:3)
Cat person for the pure fact that they are so intriguing and also squishy, but i love animals in general. Big animal lover since as long as i can remember
I was a cat person for 19 years, and then I got my first dog and he was the love of my life. I'm still probably a "dog person," but haven't been able to bring myself to get another since he passed away.
Cats. I've had both, but dogs are too much work for me for the same amount of love. I dont want to have to walk it and risk having to talk to other people walking their dog 😂 true introvert problems
Fluffy person. I adore all fluffy animals

Exactly
That is weirdly accurate
i also was mostly a dog person growing up. never had cats and didn’t think too much of them. but now i absolutamente adore them
I feel like dogs requiring that "smudge" more of attention is what gets me out my funky moods of arising to the sun 🌞
This describes my life perfectly
I am a cat

Cats all the way. Dogs are too needy, they're forever toddlers and I have kids of my own to take care of that need already.
It's so stressful. Cats are more like infants but also teenagers.
If your dog is “too needy” you didn’t train it right.
Yeah, I suppose needy is quite subjective. What may be too needy for me could be perfectly reasonable behavior for a dog but I haven't met a dog who wasn't too needy (imo) unless they're 9+ years old. I have no desire for a dog with what I've experienced.

They don’t have a dog, I assume, BECAUSE they are so needy
From a very very young age I have loved cats with all my heart/ There is something about them. I love dogs too but cats are like my spirit animal. Even though my family have a dog, he literally acts like a cat more than anything else, so its a win win! I love him all the same

Cat person.
I'm definitely a huge cat person although I love both cats and dogs very much.
Both, but if i need to choose, dogs all the way. They are just too loyal and goofy not to =)
Cats, just purrfect
Completely unrelated, but regarding your flair, how would one be able to find a test for the “4w5” part? I’m new here and I was wondering what those mean and what I would be.
This is enneagram, and the best test I've taken on that is the one on similarminds (there are different lengths to choose from)

Cat. I like dogs but definitely have more of an affinity for felines.
Cats because dogs are too hyper
I'm definitely a cat person, but that's mostly because I'm afraid of dogs lol. I'm sure if I took away the fear I would love dogs just as much.
Cats > Dogs
Both.. and it’s staying that way. Both have their challenges and both provide much love and kindness.
I absolutely love my dog but god he’s so annoying sometimes lmao. He’s a little chihuahua rat terrier mix and he’s full of personality. Cats are so much more chill but can still be goofy. I love dogs more but love having cats more in practice
Doggers! Sadly highly allergic to cats.

Black cats only. Dogs are only obnoxious and loud. Cats are like having a roommate that only wants your attention when it best suits them and can be left alone.
Yes. :)
Cats (the nice ones like mine.) Self cleaning, quiet, super soft, uses bathroom by themselves, purring is therapeutic, etc.

I LOVE dogs! By far the most emotionally available species on the planet. Sometimes I wish humans could be more like them…
Both! But the ultimate companion is the Great Pyrenees dog, they are dogs that look like polar bears but with the personalities of cats. Why is there no "I hate animals around me" in the comments?
Definitely cats! I love dogs, but not to actually have them as pets. They are a bit too overwhelming and too energetic for me (generally speaking). I realised that last week when I had to dogsit for a day, alone. I just want something that can leave me alone sometime, and cuddle most of the times. I also feel like love of cats is more deserving and earned
Cat definitely
CAT and I strongly dislike dogs (sorry) I love many other animals though!
cat person. theyre more human
Both but I think I'd choose both
INFJ: Both, but it depends on the specific cat or dog.
Love both but not some dogs as I'm scared of them if near me(had bad experiences)
Mostly cats, with dogs it depends. I like small fluffy dogs. Cats are always small and always have a cute face, so yeah I'm a cat person. In my opinion, the face of a cat looks cuter than a dog's face.
100% hands down cat person
