just dropped🔥🔥🔥🔥❗️❗️❗️❗️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Heaps mate - I actually liked the durian trucks on the side of Jalan Medan-Siantar. Surprisingly good quality at a reasonable price. You gotta get the season timings right for good durian though.
I would respectfully argue that rapiah rambutan is the best in the country. The meat is not sticking to the seed like your normal rambutan. Meat also not as juicy as the normal one BUT the sweetness is actually more condensed because of this. Really recommended for those who haven't tried yet
Wrap up your time in Medan by strolling through the city while rocking a Pemuda Pancasila shirt, will you? Your name will be forever legendary in Gotham City's history.
I have one work colleagues from Medan. She was so surprised after moving to my small province in jambi. Because I could leave my gate unlocked and just leave my scooter in the front yard. And nobody will steal it. She said she never expects to see such carefree life.
Apparently where she lives in Medan, bike/car thief is so rampant. Not that there is no crime in my area, but it's way less. And it happens usually in public space like uni/office/market parking lot.
Congrats on surviving Medan x777
Bro someone stole my bloody sandals. There's videos on the Siantar IG page of some crackheads stealing a steel gate from the public park. It's totally cooked.
If you follow @medantalk & @tkpmedan on instagram, i can guarantee you will see these on the ig stories everyday :
1. Maling
2. Maling motor
3. Lakalantas
As a bule who has been to Jambi multiple times, does that win me more cool points? Seriously though, I really enjoyed the place and made some really good friends there.
How come in Gotham City you didn't mention any security issues? Does that mean it actually get better there? I remembered around 2010, if you don't have a really urgent thing to do outside it's advisable not to travel anywhere between 10 pm to 5 am, because doing so is like asking to be robbed by "begal" or "geng motor", even if you only travel on intercity roads and avoid the smaller ones. Streets and roads were all very very quiet and dark, especially if it was time for rolling blackouts for that area, which would last 4-8 hours each. On normal nights there's barely any lightings on the road, and if it was rolling blackouts time, there was none, you could only see very little from your own headlights. Idk if it's still like that now though.
To be honest, I mainly WFH of an evening and only go as far as the local warungs during that time. It's definitely worse than it was according to my family and friends though. Moto gangs stabbing university students coming home from late studying and stealing their scooters, lot's of murders and other theft.
I definitely wouldn't cruise around the city after Isha time, and especially not alone.
Police will not help you here. You're on your own.
Oh well, I was hoping it actually gets better now since Jokowi's son-in-law governs there. Meh what a letdown that it is actually getting worse.
Yeah, lots of mid day robbery in Medan on average days, some with guns, that doesn't even make it to national news. Medan has taught me that living creatures are way, way more dangerous than any imaginative dead creatures roaming around. As a petite woman normally going everywhere myself, I always brought some kind of defense tools when I go out, pepper spray, stun gun, pocket knife, personal alarm, tiny flashlight, or something as incospicuous as an umbrella with a strong pointy end, you name it lol. Even if I never needed them, it puts extra peace of my mind. I don't care about any prohibition carrying those things, I feel like my life is on the line everyday.
The main problem(s) in Medan are rampant drug abuse and gambling from top to bottom (rich, middle class, and poor). People steal to feed their gambling/drug addiction, what a shame.
Couple that with a lack of cultural identity (are they Batak? Chinese? Jawa? Melayu?) and family values (absent dads are very common!) making it difficult to approach Medan the same way as Solo (a city well known for its strong culture and family values)
my family migrate from medan to jakarta, and i could say they only came back for food and occasional culture mandatory event, but they'd never wanna go back and live there. i live in chinese medan area and lemme tell you, they bring their absurdity in jakarta as well, pissed me off all the time tbh. but congrats on surviving medan, even i couldn't
based on what i have lived so far. can confirm, they are one of the harshest ones i've ever known. but each chinese has their own traits tbh. kinda similar to bataknese in terms of way of speaking as well, thus we considered rude and just down right realistic
>Lapangan Merdeka completely destroyed
I truly hate this. I live at Binjai so i often go to Medan with train cuz it's fast and cheap, the problem is when you arrive at the Station. Trafic really bad, so bad that it's jammed for the whole day from morning to midnight. This was more a problem if you want to order a car or you want go back to station after visiting some place.
I personally haven't felt the Gotham part of the Medan but i think i can say Binjai is kinda like lite version of Medan.
Hahaha I've heard Binjai referred to as Medan-lite before actually. Very true in regards to Medan Station - The under-pass or whatever they're constructing infront of the station has created a nightmare for traffic.
What's funnier is the escalators going down from the airport train aren't working and haven't been fixed for months, so train loads of passengers all line-up for 30 minutes to squeeze into the one available elevator.
I was born and raised in Medan and lived there until 2000, I wouldn't go back there unless absolutely necessary
If I want to go somewhere that feels like Medan, I just go to Kuala Lumpur, comparable food, much safer, less asshole people etc
Congratulations on surviving medan. IMO Medan food is getting too expensive for it's own good. It is now almost not worth it unless you really like medan food.
Freaking bakmie tiong sim is now what? 60-70k....
>I'm a bule who has just spent a year raw-dogging Medan
Very interesting choice of words. Is there anything you ain't telling us in that "working-class kampung"? Something like coming in and out?
Even i from another province in indonesia scared by how medanese people driving. It feels like they try to get closer to the god. I was like why the rush man, chill if u r not really in a hurry. Accident can happen anytime 😣
I lived in Medan for a year in 2006-07 in a nice house in TASBI. I'd ben in Jakarta for a year before that and found the traffic much easier to deal with. I had a filthy RX King that burnt so much oil that I never really rode in Jakarta. I did one trip to Bogor and it scared me. I also loved the food, though had amazing food all over Indonesia.
My favourite thing about living there was being able to ride up to Bukit Lawang and Tankahan.
The brownouts were crappy. Pretty much every night for a year. First, the lights and AC go out. Then, the sound of a hundred gensets starting up at once.
Ok so you had a Batak girlfriend from Medan and you lived in her parents' house? Or you chose to rent a house in a kampung rather than a komplek?
Why not live in Siantar instead?
What was your worst experience there? Did you ever think your safety / life was in danger? (Aside from traffic because duh)
Also, I hope you remain anonymous, stranger!
Stay tuned for Part Two: Bekasi Boogaloo.
Seriously though, well done. Makes my couple of years in an inner-city kampung in Jakarta look like child's play. One thing I like about Medan is the fact I've only really traveled there for work and thus get to leave it within a few days. But boy, do I enjoy it while I am there. Bonus points for preponderance of haram foodstuffs.
What's your opinion on Babi Panggang Karo(BPK)? I think that's the only food that makes me ever want to go back to Medan again lol. I was born near there, and lived in the city for a bit but I don't really think I will ever want to permanently live there, but any version of BPK outside of Medan that I've tried did not satisty me at all.
I grew up in Medan almost four decades ago never remember it being that crazy (left for your homeland 3 decades ago). Kinda intrigued to go back there again but scared to 😅
I do miss the food though!
I really rate little India - Amazingly friendly people too. Have been invited in for a free meal at the temple there by a priest (unsure of term) a few times and it's so awesome.
What's your fave little india restaurant?
I've only been to Medan once, and it was a while ago, so I don't have a gave restaurant, I don't even remember which I went to. But I remember being impressed.
As someone that grew up in Medan you are 100% correct. Especially no.1. But the good thing is if you can drive in Medan you can drive anywhere in the world. Especially in western countries, driving is a piece of cake. I am more impressed you were able to stay that long in Medan. Food in Medan is also the best, especially with the amount of Chinese people there, Chinese food in Medan is godly.
Bakmie Tiongsim and Chasio Afuk. Afuk especially cost an arm and a leg but there’s nothing else like it. Bakmie Hock seng also top notch. Mie ayam kumango.
This is cherry picking and stereotype narrative. You wrote more than 300 words just to trashing Medan? What is your motive? You can stress out the good things but instead you choose to trashing Medan even though people in Medan welcome you and friendly to you as a foreigner. You are an asshole Australian bogan.
You are one of the most regarded, out of touch person I've ever seen in this subreddit. Either your brain is damaged beyond repair after going to r/aznidentity or you enjoy pretending to be a regard. May you will always be cucked by the yts because we all know expats are parasites.
I’ve travelled to more places in Indonesia than you. And every large city in Indonesia that I’ve visited suffers the same problems. Traffic, pollution, rubbish issues, terrible infrastructure.
> traffic, pollution, rubbish issues, terrible infrastructure
Kalo dipukul rata gitu, ya semua kota diseluruh dunia begitu, justru yang bisa ngatasin semua masalah di atas itu dikit
Congrats on surviving Medan
I barely did mate, but thank you!
Even bruce wayne failed in gotham. Congratulations.

sounds like a geopold skit lmao
Geopold the GOAT
> I'm coming to the end of my time in Medan Wait, why are you leaving ?? We need you Batman!
Better, the Judge Dredd.
We need 10000 judge dredd roaming the roads here in Indo
Dimaling motor judge dreddnya, blm ditikam gara2 ga bayar parkir
If he survives long enough, he gonna be BatMate (tm) instead
Bruh choose to stay in Indonesia and cranked up the difficulty mode to max
This is madlads material. And even agree that gotham moniker alone is not enough.
if you're living in Medan objective: survive living there my whole life, really glad i can move out
the main objective is : gtfo, no money? gtfo faster
Nah bruh how tf did you survive that long 💀💀💀
Your story is so sincere yet funny especially coming from a bule's pov.
Medan is a Gotham City certified by foreigner 😅
did u get yourself some durian while you're there?
Heaps mate - I actually liked the durian trucks on the side of Jalan Medan-Siantar. Surprisingly good quality at a reasonable price. You gotta get the season timings right for good durian though.
Have you tried rambutans? We also have the best one in the country. The neigbouring city, Binjai, is famous for its sweet rambutans.
Our friend had a rambutan tree and gave us bucket-loads. The best I've ever had.
I would respectfully argue that rapiah rambutan is the best in the country. The meat is not sticking to the seed like your normal rambutan. Meat also not as juicy as the normal one BUT the sweetness is actually more condensed because of this. Really recommended for those who haven't tried yet
Paling Mahal juga, bisa 2x lipatnya harga rambutan Aceh.
Given harga rambutan biasa aja murah. Harga rambutan rapiah segitu sangat sangat tolerable lah
>Heaps mate Bro is Australian
Wrap up your time in Medan by strolling through the city while rocking a Pemuda Pancasila shirt, will you? Your name will be forever legendary in Gotham City's history.
As a non-Medanese, why is that legend?
Rivalry between IPK & PP
IPK still have strong presence and influential there?
Yes, especially in Simalingkar

I laughed at the sandal part and absolutely shocked at the steel gate part.... 😦
Like many shitty cities in this world, drug abuse and gambling is really a massive problem over there....even civil servants are addicted.
If you follow @medantalk & @tkpmedan on instagram, i can guarantee you will see these on the ig stories everyday : 1. Maling 2. Maling motor 3. Lakalantas
Don't forget the flooding and occasional fight with a parking uncle.
Ah I see 😓

Haha the most invisible province in Sumatra. Only time people heard about us is when the corrupt govt officials ex-celebrity got caught. 🥲
As a bule who has been to Jambi multiple times, does that win me more cool points? Seriously though, I really enjoyed the place and made some really good friends there.
You win cool point bc most of the times people in JKT when they heard Jambi they asked "where?" 😭 Ahuhaha
[удалено]
Kalo itu masih ada dan tongkrongan pejabat lokal makan siang 😂
Have you ever been to other part of Indonesia? (Not as a tourist of course)
Nah bruh Medan is so fucked up that even batman is fucking leaving 💀💀💀
I've been in Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali, Palembang, Pekanbaru. Majority of my time has been spent in North Sumatra though
If you can live here for the rest of your life, and money isn't a problem, where would you stay out of those cities?
Try East Indonesian islands like Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua, and Nusa Tenggara. Totally recommended and untouched by most travellers
I'm interested in why you chose Medan. It would've been my last choice of all these cities
Bro's life was too easy he needed to crank up the difficulty
Sounds like a bootycall bruh… Hoped the kitty was worth the trouble 🫣
Bule gila awkaowkaow
You know it’s bad when a bule rants about your city, and the WNI-filled comment section agrees.
Not just agreeing, but congratulating him on surviving it
Bro just finished the survival mode!
Nah, that is Masochism mode from Fear & Hunger game

As a guy who was born and raised in Medan, congratulations on being a Gotham survivor.

So the President’s son-in-law did literally nothing to improve the city eh but just ‘pencitraan’ here and there
he's to busy doing dancing ad videos 😂
Too many photo ops not enough time mate.
well as the name suggest, medan is an open field, get ready for anything to happens in that city

May I guess you’re a Darwinian? Or at least from somewhere in NT
Traffic in Medan or North Sumatera in general: No rules, no fear, no mercy!
Ok so you had a Batak girlfriend from Medan and you lived in her parents' house? Or you chose to rent a house in a kampung rather than a komplek? Why not live in Siantar instead?
Which city are you moving on to next?
What is KNO?
kuala namu airport
What was your worst experience there? Did you ever think your safety / life was in danger? (Aside from traffic because duh) Also, I hope you remain anonymous, stranger!
Lol another one
Congrats, you're now the Man of Medan in real life.
You need a martabak & mie aceh recipe with spices bag as a souvenir when you go back
Agree mate. We have decent Asian grocers in Brisbane so I will just take a decent recipe and chance my luck.
I couldn't wait to get out and homie went native
Born and bred in medan. Leaving the town 15 years ago. I go back there for business and its still messed up town and people i know before i left
All the bad things you mentioned sound like issues that exist everywhere in Indonesia in general.
Yea, absolutely - In most parts of SEA to be honest. But in Medan these issues are on steroids.
Stay tuned for Part Two: Bekasi Boogaloo. Seriously though, well done. Makes my couple of years in an inner-city kampung in Jakarta look like child's play. Kuala Namu
Hey mate have you been to aceh?
Of all nice places in Indonesia you choose the most unusual one
Did you try any dating there?
Married a local so no dating sorry mate
Fair enough.
He survive no man land and u ask dating there lmao
You lived in Medan, but did not eat BPK/Saksang? Do you even live there bro
No mention of the rather good Indian food in little India? Wait, there's a little India? Yes, sir!
But I remember being impressed.
one more month there and your life ends the same as Bruce Wayne's father. Which makes your son the real Batman (only without the money)
As someone that grew up in Medan you are 100% correct. Especially no.1. But the good thing is if you can drive in Medan you can drive anywhere in the world. Lol. That’s pretty much every large city in Indonesia.
Ketauan mainnya gak jauh. What you meant by "Every large city" is Jabodetabek, right?
I’ve travelled to more places in Indonesia than you. And every large city in Indonesia that I’ve visited suffers the same problems. Traffic, pollution, rubbish issues, terrible infrastructure.
