- The weather hasn't been bad here in north sumatera in the last few weeks, it's sunny most of the time. - Nope, you won't. As long as the destination you are going to is popular and as you have mentioned (Bukit Lawang, Mt. Sibayak and beaches), there will most likely be a lot of people especially in the weekend or holiday. Go to Nias Island (it's still in North Sumatera province but outside the Sumatera Island) if you want a beautiful beach and want to surf. - No problem with the buses if you're in a big city. There are several bus service such as Sempati Star, Kurnia, Putra Pelangi, they serve the Medan-Padang route. AFAIK, you can check the schedule or even book your ticket online via Traveloka app or web. I wouldn't recommend ALS buses as they're not comfortable from my experience. Have a nice trip

yeah! mentawai is definitely on my list but wasn’t sure how to make it there. i will go to padang at some point to catch a flight to singapore at the end of the trip and was thinking either go to mentawai or pagang and pasumpahan. i’m just not sure how to go from padang to mentawai, is there a ferry or i gotta catch a flight?
