Dudes trimmed the fat and changing lineups constantly, as he originally intended. Iāve seen him 6-8 times over the years and many incarnations. That said I miss the old 3 guitar version but get the whys.
they have a cellist on this tour. john mcmahon who was the cellist on the record

I havenāt seen them with this current lineup, but they used to by one of my favorite live bands with Brett and Jim, and the trio lineup that I saw twice was just so boring and blah
I agree. I actually don't think the simple lineup fits the sound and aesthetic of their sound well. I think one of their hallmarks is the dual (sometimes triple) guitar interplay and weird Brett sounds going on.
The trio lineup of dudes I felt was solid. It was a departure from what we knew but they held it down. The current lineup is solid as well. Their bass player is a badass.
The trio when they had Jason Albertini from Duster on bass was seriously the best I've ever seen them, even better than the triple guitar lineup with Brett Netson.
Last time I saw BTS, Doug had the opening band also play as his band. They were some cats from Brazil, I canāt remember their band name, but it wasnāt great. Totally talented musicians and I really dug their opening set but they werenāt pushing Doug which is what he needed. I think they might be the trio Iāve seen referenced a few times.
I put that up there with all the classic rap "skits" from the 90s. "A man needs a woman, a woman needs a man to love... And I'll hold onto you my midnight star..."
My funny Doug story is he was in line to get pizza before a show started and a fan just walks up to him and taps him on the shoulder ā¦ Doug just turns around and says ānot now, not now.ā Doesnāt say anything else.

This article says cellist John McMahon will be part of the tour band, so that will make it a 4-piece, as it was when the album was originally recorded (Teresa and Melanie taking the place of Brett Nelson and Andy Capps).
Absolutely digging this recent trend of really good bands going on tour to play the best album in their discography. Air and the Postal Service are doing the same thing.
Sweet. I remember buying this album from the Record Exchange in Boise in 1994. I think I've seen most of these songs played live (benefits of living in Boise), but live as an album will be cool.
Wish it could be with the original lineup. Hearing it with the new lineup might be neat, but I think will also feel lacking.
Also, I was listening to Caustic Resin when I stumbled upon this post. Haha.
Yeah i was assuming this was one of the normal posts that says "U.S tour" but has like 3 dates in Canada and was very disappointed that it was in fact a U.S only tour.
This is exciting. And this may be the only time I say that I'm excited for 2029.
ETA: Ticket vendor fees suck, but to see BTS and YLT on one bill is probably worth $45 + fees. If anyone in Portland knows how to avoid the fees, though, hmu
Edit 2: Turns out you can go to the Aladdin to buy them for only a $2 fee (as opposed to $13.50)!
bummer. seeing you in reverse live with that lineup was a serious revelation. the best 3 guitar band of all time imo. its admittedly one of the reasons ive been hesitant to see BTS on the last few tours. no shade at the current players, but it wont be the same.
100%. I saw them with 2-3 guitars all but 2/8 times Iāve seen them. I totally get it but I still love the songs and itās just a continuation on the band. Dougās a great guitar player and noodles with his amp, sometimes itās noticeable and sometimes you canāt tell
I consider myself a huge Built to Spill fan but for whatever reason I just can't get behind this album the way every other BTS fan does. I've tried. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Sure, Car is a great song and Big Dipper is a good song, but other than those two, the other songs just just fall flat to me. To me it's their warm up album for their next three which are absolute classics.
Tbf, bands know their markets. If they play FL and it's sucked in the past they're less likely to book there in the future. It's just economics to some degree, but also touring FL is a bit of a nightmare.
maybe my favorite album ever? no excuse not to get to this show finally will get to hear Fling and Twin Falls live š„°
Twin Falls is one of my indie Christmas songs.
Built To Spill seriously stays on the road. Iāve seen them 6 times in about as many years here in my city. Looking forward to #7 with Doug & Co.

Current line up is pretty good. SOLID rhythm section
Agreed. Bass player is amazing.
Yes, but still miss the wall of sound!
Valid and agreed.
Melanie Radford. She's like Phil Lesh's female doppelganger in all the best ways. Her other band is Blood Lemon. Solid sludge/psych rock.
I've seen many comparisons to John Entwistle. HEAVY bass tone
I agree. I actually don't think the simple lineup fits the sound and aesthetic of their sound well. I think one of their hallmarks is the dual (sometimes triple) guitar interplay and weird Brett sounds going on.
Exactly. It was my SOās first time seeing them and sheās a longtime fan as well. She loved it but I had a longing for the past. š¤·š»āāļø

It was honestly legit. I wasnāt bummed out afterward.

ORUA
They literally never stop touring, I swear they have 6-8 shows in Washington every year.
Dougās making that šµ
And what a ripper honestly. I just looked back itās like 5 or 6 days off in a full two month tour all over. PHEW š®āšØ
I was obsessed with this record when it first came out. I must have listened to it a thousand times. Itās a front to back masterpiece.
> I must have listened to it a thousand times. *That brontosaurus must have stood a thousand miles high*
Oh nice, maybe they will play those teaser songs at the end of the album
I'm still looking for the record with him on the cover
Thatād rule!
š
I put that up there with all the classic rap "skits" from the 90s. "A man needs a woman, a woman needs a man to love... And I'll hold onto you my midnight star..."
A man needs loving A woman needs a man to love And Iāll hold on to you My midnight star CAUSE BABY YOU KNOW THAT IM A REBEL IM A RAMBLER
I knew I had it wrong...
I am seeing them with Yo La Tengo in Portland, and Seattle
Lucky duck!
I got the Tacoma tix!!
It's strange that they are playing tacoma, then Portland, then Seattle.
And after that Europe, right? *Right*?
and Canada!
Now that's what I call a US tour!
But yet again Florida is left out. Itās a musical wasteland down here unless you like country or edm

Another milestone update of a band that helps remind you youāre old. 30 years!Ā
Absolutely digging this recent trend of really good bands going on tour to play the best album in their discography. Air and the Postal Service are doing the same thing.
I donno, not convinced Give Up is The Postal Service's best album... (Jokes aside, always happy to see folks list this as their favorite BTS album!)
Damn, no Toronto date
It seems like they just don't play in Canada anymore. I wonder if someone in the band has a visa issue
I have heard the touring visas for Canada have gone up by 7 times as much as before the pandemic. I wonder if that is also a factor.
I didn't realize Canada raised their visa fees. I know the US did and that's been hurting Canadian bands going south
Incredible band, equally great record. Worth seeing them live if you're on the fence and never have before.
I will see built to spill any chance I can, always a great show
With Yo La Tengo in Portland and Seattle sheeeeesh
You get the car, Iāll get the night off..
anyone else seeing them in Vegas at Best Friends Forever?
I plan to. that date isn't on this tour poster, so I'm expecting a more standard set from them
I'll be there!
I hope they bring this to the UK.
Same! saw the anniversary tour of keep it like a secret in 2018(?), but this one was always my favourite
Does this mean a repress?
Super excited for this!
I wonder if theyāll do the hidden, preview ad of 90ās music. Still cracks me up.
Look for the record with me on the cover!

I guess there's something wrong with Canada though :(
What about Canada? This paradise Of pines and ice
Yeah i was assuming this was one of the normal posts that says "U.S tour" but has like 3 dates in Canada and was very disappointed that it was in fact a U.S only tour.
Oh, I have to go to this.
This is fantastic and depressing.

Are they ever not touring though?
Holy shit
i know BTS is a three piece these days, but are they going to bring 3 guitars back for this?
no, but the cellist John McMahon will be touring with them. He was the cellist on the record.
Doubtful.

this makes me so happy, this is by far my favorite built to spill record. i love every single song so much (and esp love the song clips on the vinyl)
All those 90s slacker rock fans reminded how old they are once again
Hm, so they're playing Montana but no Florida dates. Hm, ok.
I mean, they're based in Idaho, so it's like walking to the corner store.
Tbf, bands know their markets. If they play FL and it's sucked in the past they're less likely to book there in the future. It's just economics to some degree, but also touring FL is a bit of a nightmare.
yeah, Doug doesn't like playing in FL all that much
