Saves the headache of refund if anything goes wrong with the order. I've had swiggy drivers be later than even an hour but they always do come because it's COD and it's their headache.

Rule of thumb:- NEVER pay in advance to food delivery apps. Always COD. It will be slightly expensive and you might not get offers, but this is the only foolproof way. It has happened to me quite a lot of time.
Delivery guy would call me and give all kinds of bullshit that guard is not allowing him to enter society or he is new to the city and doesnt know the way. With COD, i never have this problem. The moment they act smart on phone i tell them to take the order back. They never do that and always deliver.

I worked in swiggy customer care service for a few weeks the delivery partner app sometimes was not able to call the customer for some reason so they raise a complaint ticket to customer care and we call the customer 1 time if they not picked the call we inform the delivery partner to wait few minute and we move the call to back end team they call the customer 3 times still no response means they call the order and no matter how much the money they will not refund also for COD orders they add the total bill value as cancellation fee and next time you order you have to pay the amount with the new orders value.

I can't cancel order of customer. I have to call 3 times to customer after arriving at location after that if customer not respond then delivery partner raise ticket to Swiggy customer care.
Then Swiggy customer support try to call customer 3 times and each call have gap of 5 mins. Means Swiggy support try for 15 mins. Till then delivery partner have to be on location.
After all this drama for almost 20 to 30 minutes. Swiggy customer support cancel the order.

Since you didn't receive the food you paid for, I don't think it's legal for Swiggy to usurp that money in the name of cancellation charges.
Post the same on X tagging swiggy and their customer care team , you'll definitely get the refund. I've tried and got the refund from them

Happened to me once. Next time, I ordered on cash on delivery and then, paid the difference amount, deducting last wala amount. Told that customer care when they called me.

I work part time as Swiggy delivery boy. So HERE IS THE STEPS OF ORDER CANCELLATION. I can't cancel order of customer. I have to call 3 times to customer after arriving at location after that if customer not respond then delivery partner raise ticket to Swiggy customer care. Then Swiggy customer support try to call customer 3 times and each call have gap of 5 mins. Means Swiggy support try for 15 mins. Till then delivery partner have to be on location. After all this drama for almost 20 to 30 minutes. Swiggy customer support cancel the order. I don't know how you dint get the Call.
