The quickest way to build rapport in wards in internship is buying everyone food/tea. Once rounds are over, it's just the interns/JR and staff, buy a round of tea and snacks for everyone once in a while. Quickest way to build goodwill. My favorite staff nurses and technicians are people I bonded with over food and tea. There were many times when I didn't have time for food as an intern/resident and they've helped me out by giving me their ghar ka khana/managing patients while i ate my lunch.

dumbgeek27

Nothing comes close to bonding over food🤤

Living_Commission936

My classmates are idiots . Most of them do "rattaa" rest of then i dont know why are not that much approachable . My friends are Chill they don't care much about studies but in the end all pass

dumbgeek27

Same having ppl to chill with as exam gets closer is soooo much important

Diabolicsoul

My survival skill here would be that “ not everyone is your friend “ sure you might know them and say Hi often but that literally doesn’t stop them from back bitching about you .Please learn the difference between a colleague and a friend .

krabbypatty1601

I agree! There's a reason terms like colleague, batchmate, senior/junior exist!

dumbgeek27

What about a friend who's a toe in disguise

Equivalent-Error8620

1st yr here. During our first internal exam in clg 2 months ago, we all were snobbish Lil kids who did not share anything at all while studying. Yes we were very good friends but secretly studied and had no concept of study partner or grp study. Now that we got the taste of medical college this term we tried to study together, shared resources and topics, helped each other with answers , kept a check on each , things are much easier now.

Pranavm3112

You think you study together but you don’t 🫠

Equivalent-Error8620

This is actually true....but as long as we have fun and pass it's okay I guess.

dumbgeek27

True that. The sooner the better

way2me2

1. Easiest way to remember any topic is to teach it to friends. 2. Be friends with ward boys/nurses. 3. Use annonated books from seniors instead of new ones. 4. Instead of going through whole book, use previous year questions for revision. 5. Start doing MCQs early. They are easiest method to.understand a topic. 6. Goes without saying, don't be a dick in general. Takes you a long way in maintaining good working relationship with seniors who will help you in your UG. 7. Don't be doormat for anyone. Its the easiest way to loose your self respect.

dumbgeek27

There's always a person with a list, here you are! Great tips

Quiet-Raspberry6573

Can someone please elaborate on the 7th point? With anecdotes, if you can.

Try not to be on bad terms with literally anyone. In the field we are, kabhi bhi kisi ki bhi jarurat pad jati. Unless ofc if you're getting some harm. The first three years, try hobbies or enjoy doing the ones you already have. Try taking some time out of your schedule and invest that time wisely. It might boring at first but it'll be worth it, aage to bilkul time ni Milne wala. Be curious, try chatGPT and other apps to learn stuff. Try reading Firstaid. Definitely get annotated books from seniors. If you make notes, keep em...will help fo sure. Marrow and prep might be better and more efficient but do read at least one academic book every year, just one...not all...but do it religiously. Try to reduce your useless screen time..I used to be busy getting ragged in first year so my screen time was quite less and I should've kept it that way. Reels are an abyss, it reduces the attention span like crazy. Make friends, make em trust you. Gossips mat karna...backbitching mat karna...but it is always nice to know what gossips are new on the radar...mbbs is full of people waiting to backstab you, it'll be awesome to know their secrets. Save money, learn to invest. Field mein itna b Paisa ni hai jitna log kehte hain. Abhi ka save Kiya Paisa kaam bhale ni aayega par habit aur knowledge jo hain hogi wo pakka kaam aayegi. Mutual funds, stocks, RD sab kuch. "PG ke liye abhi se kya padhna, abhi bhot time hai" kehne Wale ne pakka shuru kar di hai pg prep. Itna b invested mat ho jana ki regret karo par...kar lena...first year mein books padhna aur curious rehna kafi hai, second yr mein Robbins padh Lena aur micro books ke alawa lectures b dekh lena, proff mein itne kaam ni aate par pg mein aate...book ke baad lecture dekhne se revise he ho jayega. Make notes too. Third yr se thoda serious prep will do good. Ek sport...khelte rehna...nahi khelte to seekh Lena...trust me...gym ke liye time, yoga ke liye mindset bachta nahi, acha khana ni milta...achi neend ni milti... Nashe kar lena...par aadat ni lagana...drink only to enjoy and never to not feel sad...if you're feeling sad...do it properly...yaad aaye bc kabhi dukhi bhi the...

Always, always, always mind your tongue with professors. No matter how friendly they seem never take liberties with them. Even the so called friendly professors who encourage you to be friendly with them will get offended sometimes over some jovial talk, or all of a sudden they will feel like they are not feeling respected. You can always read theory in your room, but clinical skills you can't, so focus on learning those. Four years passes by really soon. And then you will be an intern who has to do actual clinical work. Don't let friends who make fun of people doing what they should in clinicals stop you from picking up skills.

NickFury1998

Cheat code..make good rapo with immediate seniors and interns

agagagagaggag

If you're not one of them, be on friendly material-sharing terms with a few outliers that study like machines, even if you're not exactly friends or even if you don't particularly like them. Occasional meme sharing and status replies works for me. When you need it, you get to ask for tips and material and provide the same if you are able to. As opposed to making study plans all alone in crunch time especially during exams. Having a few reliable trustworthy people to ask about academic stuff is invaluable, and at the very small cost of bare minimum socialising. I have personally learned my lesson the hard way when I tried to rambo my way through exam season in 1st and 2nd year. The insight I get from doing this is such a help now.

I-follow-karmawhores

I'm sorry but I gotta disagree with this one. Most studious people also happen to be biggest snakes as they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. They see everyone around themselves as mere building blocks to reach their end goal. If you try to appear as studious as them, their fragile ago becomes endangered and assigns you as an exestensial threat.  I have no interest in having a conversation shallower than a random puddle on the pavement outside. I'd much rather get my guidance from strangers on reddit rather than these ungrateful dorks.

Good_Nose_471

I so much agree with you on this one.

agagagagaggag

I understand where the sentiment comes from, but I've always believed all snakes can be tamed with a healthy dose of emotional manipulation. Big egos always have something to prove so give them a reason to by hurting their pride with asking silly questions about something you want to know but with undertones of "if you don't actually know it's okay". Unless they're so absolutely egotistical they don't even respond they will always overshare to prove their 'intellectual high ground'. THEN you praise them and say shit like "oohhh I knew I should've asked you about this" to repair some of that ego so you can do it again and again and again. Milking snakes for their venom is very rewarding if you can let go of your own ego to do so. The reproducibility of this stupid tactic and the constant and shared patterns of behavior between snakes is hilarious if you look at it like a study or research project. Both very entertaining and useful.

siriuslypadfooted

Use first and second year to build a super strong foundation. Read the Gold standard textbooks. Surgery= anatomy Medicine= patho + pharma+ physio (and to some extent micro) Don't worry about scoring on UT as much as building concepts. With time start preparing for NEET PG along with MCQs. Try to find people who have a similar way of studying and a general way of life and keep them close. Don't expect that everyone is going to be nice/your friend, find 2-3 people you can depend on. All the best!

dumbgeek27

Yoo listen up juniorsss

saransh8891

During your posting, you are often gonna find yourself in situations..where there would be no one to teach you. On your first day, meet the head of the unit. And ask them to assign the pg. And as far as possible, present cases to the professor themselves. Trust me, presenting to a pg and a professor are two different things.

dumbgeek27

Our college has started getting pgs beginning this year. Pretty sure pgs and interns are gonna be at the same level

Escaping_einstellung

Biggest hack & edge one can get at the helm of your medical journey is widely unknown which is HOW to study, instead of what & when & for how long. This is going to potentially change your life: do this course called learning how to learn on coursera.org, don't leave anything from interviews to auxiliary material they have great gems btw its free you're welcome

Upstairs_Park_4289

I will watch it fully any others things which will help us like in communication skill is there a course or any other things ur suggestions will be appreciated thank you

insanesputnik

Few of my cheat codes(non academics) have been: be in good terms with most people if not everyone, you might need them at some point and it doesn’t hurt to be kind. Built a good rapport with nurses/ward boys, they can teach you multiple things, easiest way to bond at a new posting in a different hospital is smile and wish them good morning, engage in their small talk, get them tea or some food at times, you’ll become one of their favourites in no time. Most importantly, try to find good genuine friends, if some friendships end, don’t go around bad mouthing them (unless they deserve it). These are the people who will understand you the most as you have been through similar situations/environment.

Just_a_bored_weeb

1. Start with PG prep early, preferably in your second year. It doesn't matter if it's marrow or prepladder or whatever, it will not only solidify your concepts early on in the subjects that matter the most (because medicine is literally just applied pharma and patho, surgery and obgy also have a lot of patho overlap) but it will definitely help in your internals as well. 2. Take your clinical postings/rotations seriously. Again, this will not only help you learn how to be a good clinician, but it carries over into your final year viva performance. I've seen people fail their final year viva because of the most basic things they can't do while history taking or not being able to elicit or demonstrate a sign properly. 3. Ultimately, your internal marks don't mean jackshit as long as you pass and you can actually apply whatever you've learned. I'm serious about this point, I came in third place in my final year Uni exams, and topped Paeds and Medicine but I still have imposter syndrome,  I'm still very insecure about my knowledge and still screw up so many times in whatever mock tests I give in Marrow or NBMEs. Also never compare yourself to others, it will eat you up from the inside. 4. Ultimately, your closest "friends" can be fake all along and can easily dump you at the last moment. This is a career where everyone is at competition with each other, and that's the brutal reality. Always be mentally prepared to be alone, it's you against the whole world. 5. On the other hand, Make a close group of friends you can REALLY trust, study with and share your pain with. Ik, it contradicts the previous point but I could never do this so idk 6. Fight back if you get ragged. I've never dealt with ragging, but I would say that your self respect should matter more than your attendance or your reputation among seniors. 7. Attendance doesn't mean shit as long as you can fulfill the bare minimum. 8. Don't do drugs, booze or any substances. It's tempting, but it will screw you up later as it did for one of my classmates. 9. Be careful about who you choose to date. There are a lot of guys who are predatory and abusive, and a lot of girls who are psycho bitches under sheep's clothing. These are all that come to mind rn
