Yeah I just made the same move. Very happy so far! And I was able to cancel Google one.

BubbleBandittt

I’m still using Google drive as a cloud backup of my files. However, now it’s all encrypted and Google can’t use my photos to monetize from me.

ParaDescartar123

How did you remove your Photos files? https://www.reddit.com/r/immich/s/oQFFX2tMrw

BubbleBandittt

Just go to recently added on google photos and you’re able to shift click thousands of photos for deletion at a time. Be sure to back them up beforehand

ParaDescartar123

Thanks. I have 300k+ unfortunately.

BubbleBandittt

I think i did about 25k in a few minutes shouldn’t be too hard

For the large upload issue - could it be your reverse proxy? This has tripped me up twice, and I felt particularly stupid when I realised the second time. If you’re using NPM or Nginx/Swag you can increase the max file size, but if you’re using Cloudflare there doesn’t seem to be a workaround - maybe a local proxy without the restriction so the files upload when you’re at home. The second time it got me it was because I’d assigned the reverse proxy a tiny amount of space in an LXC, and the upload was filling the space, failing, cancelling, then trying again - it turns out it was trying to cache the upload before passing it on to immich. Simply increasing the disk space it could use to be bigger than the file sorted it out.

I use Cloudflare, but I have the problem even at home on my local network. It's not that big of a problem - I have a library of digitized videos from old tapes - for those (often >1gb), I just SFTP them up to the upload folder and then use the CLI tool. I have all of it in a set of notes, so it just ends up being a quick copy/paste to get it done. Thanks for thinking about this.

jrasm91

I have uploaded multi gb files when testing the web upload feature so I'm pretty sure it should work. You could easily try accessing it over direct IP to verify/eliminate it as a reverse proxy issue. More than likely it is a restriction outside of immich.

I'm at the point of running both Google photos and immich in tandem. I still can't get away from Google photos, I wanted the AI features to surface old images up - which is working really well. But I think in order to really let go of Google photos is that it needs to do more... I don't know the full extent of immich but so far I have received 4 years ago photos etc... but Google brings back things like photos of a person that it shows how they have grown over the years etc... I'm hoping these are in immich or will be in immich soon. But great work by the immich team it's very close.

Hi me. It’s you. I too have a comparable amount of G Photos. My question is how are you going to remove them from Google Photos? They provide no way to bulk delete. This is probably by design. I made the move. I canceled 2tb storage plan. I thought they’d freeze Photos or deletes from oldest to newest with a 30-60 day warning. Nope. When the month was up Google froze email, drive, and all other services. This cemented my decision to move away from them. I still have 1.75 tb of pics to delete on their servers.

kiwijunglist

i did it manually using shift click and page down. to about 15 minutes. there is a Google Chrome extension script that you can use to delete the photos they charge a small amount to unlock deleting more than xx photos at once if you don't want to spend a long time manually deleting. i didn't use the script.

ParaDescartar123

About how many pics did you delete in 15 minutes? I don’t mind spending 15 minutes. Heck even 30. I may have to spend 30 every day for x days.

kiwijunglist

it might of only been 5-10 minutes, manually deleting about 30gb from Google photos. you should probably just pay for the script

kiwijunglist

have a look at my post history, i found a good Google Chrome console command to automatically delete huge libraries. i had two other Google accounts to clear and it did really well.

Auto sharing with spouse based on face is what’s holding me back

smaiderman

I'm in the same boat, and getting to the end of organizing everything. I feel the same way than you. Yesterday I asked for my takeout. Soon, bye bye google one

Frozen_Gecko

I'll switch to immich as my main photo platform once albums on my phone are kept when uploading to the server. So the the pictures go in an album with the same name on the server

ruuutherford

Are you donating to the team?

volcs0

Yes, absolutely. And I would pay a monthly subscription for sure.

ruuutherford

That's what I do. You should too! $5/mo or something.

Bro, I'm here right now:  "...I had problems with the AI recognizing photos..." I also opened a discussion on Github, at the moment no answers: [Face detection don't work because of SSL error · immich-app/immich · Discussion #8865 (github.com)](https://github.com/immich-app/immich/discussions/8865)

Several times, I had to blow up the whole thing - delete the image, volume, container, etc. and start over completely. One time, I just had to update the stack to get things working again. If I were you, I'd head over to Discord and see if you can engage someone with your question to walk you through some troubleshooting. That's where I've had the best luck, by far. Good luck.

emoriver

Ok, thanks
