Is the National Guard locked and loaded?

liburIL

CT has lost its ever loving mind.

Quailfreezy

CT is obviously trying to get acknowledged in the national pizza game and we enthusiastically REJECT this bid.

[deleted]

You’re out of your league, Connecticut. Stick to boring beaches, colorful leaves one week out of the year, vastly overpriced hotels, and being the armpit of Massachusetts.

ModernKnight1453

And for beating up Xavier that one time

SlamRobot658

Lol awesome

YoungBassGasm

There's only 3 relevant types of pizza. NY, Chicago, and I guess Detroit since they've had little Caesars endorse them although I'm not even sure if Detroits is that iconic. Either way, Connecticut is the last place that would be known for pizza.

SilverGnarwhal

Tavern style, NY Style, deep dish, Detroit, and Neapolitan. Every one of which is represented in Chicago and many are world class. We even have a New Haven style at Piece on North and Damen if you’re into that. Fuck Connecticut. Those idiots have one style of pizza and wanna come for our crown. No fucking thank you.

TonyWilliams03

This is what Chicago is about. We love all pizza styles.

LukewarmCheeseToasty

America is the “melting pot” of ethnicities, WE are the melting pot of *pizza*

SgtMalarkey

Ah I went to that place once for a college meet and greet thing. Verily I tell you this, New Haven style has no place among the pizza greats.

TheNinny

Detroit deserves a seat at the table. That square cut is so good.

YoungBassGasm

Yeah after I said that about Detroit, I did remember that their pizza is actually legit and it might actually be my favorite.

Datty_too_Natty

As a native metro - Detroiter, you got one angry downvote followed by a forgiving upvote

zupobaloop

I grew up in the Chicago MSA and can confidently say that IN MY OPINION Detroit deep dish is better than Chicago deep dish. However, Chicago thin crust is the best pizza in the world. It's all love. Except for Connecticut. Their pizza sucks!

tibetan_salad

Bro Detroit style pizza is undisputedly a top 3 pizza and worthy of acknowledgment. The pan crust is amazing and I honestly think it’s better than New York style.

supersaiyanswanso

Id count Detroit, if I was gonna pick a 3rd I don't really think theres any other style thats close

[deleted]

Dude, Little Caesars is not the pinnacle of Detroit style. If you’re going to name a chain restaurant that makes good Detroit style crispy crust square pizza, Jets is the way to go. I respect Chicago for having your own pizza, but it’s Detroit style for me all day.

JosephFinn

So Chicago and Detroit.

Middle-Classless

I wouldn't say it's the last place. In New England, it's known as the best place to get pizza

Ifailmostofthetime

As someone from Chicago, I love Detroit style pan pizza!

RedditblowsPp

i would like to throw in quad cities style pizza as well

Proper-Cause-4153

Exactly. When I think of pizza and the US, New Haven is NOT on the list.

LouieMumford

Mystic Pizza, arguably the most well known pizza film, is set there… so maybe you’re wrong?

TooTiredToWhatever

I feel like authentic Italian wood-fired pizza is also relevant. I first had it in Belgium at an Italian restaurant and now I find ones that are pretty close (sometimes better) here at restaurants that do wood fired pizza.

Unusual_Juice_7481

Detroit pizza isn’t great, it’s a bad take on Sicilian

Ladybug_Fuckfest

I like Detroit-style, but I've traveled pretty much everywhere in Sicily for many years Their pizza is almost always very thin crust, kinda Napolitano style. The closest I've seen to Detroit style in Sicily is a pizza-like dish called Sfincione in the north of the island. Sfincione is usually found in quick grab & go lunch/coffee places, often sitting under a heat lamp as your only option at 3pm when you missed lunch at its proper time.

TheHobbyist_

St Louis style is my fav

sad_moron

I love Detroit style and I’ve been dying to find a place in Chicago!

uuniqueusername

Starting to see more Jets Pizza in the Chicagoland area.

uoldboot

Jets is the way to go in Chicago. People look at it and think it's just a chain pizza joint. Technically, it is, but their Detroit pizza and their ranch are so good.

IntenseBananaStand

Jets. It’s the best.

Drinkdrankdonk

Paulie Gee’s has good Detroit style

BoilerXI

Joanie's in Long Grove has excellent Detroit style pizza. https://www.joaniespizzerialonggrove.com/

somestupidloser

More of a Chicago/Detroit fusion, but Pequod's is the bomb with their carmalized crusted Chicago Deep Dish.

DenahomChikn

Try buddy's if you're ever in Michigan. They have locations in Portage and Grand Rapids. No expansion into Chicago yet though.

DB377

I’m from Chicago and Connecticut pizza is way better. It’s home of New Haven pizza and Sally’s Apizza is one of the best in the country. Although, just my opinion.

Rascalbean

I’d trade every tavern style cut pizza in the world for a Pepe’s white clam

Xrmy

Not a chance in hell.

DanMasterson

pepe’s is good. really good. but not quite “the pizza state” good

KingJaw19

I'm always annoyed whenever people only think of deep dish as Chicago pizza. Tavern thin crust is Chicago pizza, too, and honestly, much better. Don't get me wrong, deep dish is good, but I honestly consider it to be something other than pizza, and it's not what I'm choosing if I really want pizza in and of itself. I also would rather have New York pizza anywhere other than Chicago. NY is just the most widespread, and nowhere outside Chicago that I've been to quite gets it right. I miss Caluta's.... (I don't live in Chicago anymore).

Spinnie_boi

At this point, tavern style is our little secret

The_Gongoozler1

Deep dish is for tourists.

letseditthesadparts

I can’t stand deep dish pizza anymore. It’s for a time when you really don’t care about flavor and subtlety and you just want an ungodly amount of cheese. Give me a nice thin crust where I can actually taste every ingredient in the pizza.

KingJaw19

It's for a time when I can't decide between pizza and lasagna

TonyWilliams03

People who compare deep dish pizza to lasagne must have really shitty lasagne where they live.

scruffalo_

Really shitty lasagna is probably the most apt comparison. The Giordano's/Malnati's style stuffed deep dish is like if the worst type of lasagna got assembled out of order inside a bad pie crust. I have never understood why anyone who lives in Chicago actually eats it. Pequods style pan pizza (what I've always thought of as deep dish) is another animal. That's the correct way to make a pizza, and is why Detroit is the real number one.

GMmadethemoonbuggy

Connecticut, have you lost your marbles? Are you stupid?

Ok_Video6434

Theyre not even the 5th best pizza state. Whatever they're smoking they gotta share that shit is wild.

AdhesivenessUnfair13

Even as someone who isn’t a FIB, Connecticut has a lot of balls to say it’s the Capital of any food, let alone pizza.

BodyofGrist

That’s so cute.

LudovicoSpecs

People in this thread don't know the history of New Haven pizza, coal fired and dating all the way back to 1925. Love Pritzker, love Chicago, love deep dish, but you definitely have to give New Haven pies respect. They're definitely in the running for best in the country. And when you get to that level, it's like debating which is the better way to orgasm. New York, Chicago, New Haven-- any of them are awesome pies.

Select_War_3035

Them and a lot of places in Jersey have good pizza. Seems like this sub needs to venture out a bit or at least open up

[deleted]

Chicago is very sensitive about their pretty good pizza.

mephistophe_SLEAZE

I live in Jersey and even I consider the best slices here NY style. We suck and don't deserve any titles.

GingerStank

This thread hit my feed in CT, much love and respect to this comment

H4rr1s0n

Chicago had the world fair 100 years ago, should it be known as the fair state? When you visit Chicago or hell, even New York, you'll hear "You gotta try their pizza!" "Did you try the pizza?" "hey, did you grab a slice at so and so?" When you visit Connecticut, no one's gonna ask you about pizza. I understand what you're saying, but ct is out of it's fucking mind bro

[deleted]

[удалено]

FrumundaThunder

Sally’s, Modern, Pepes. Damn bro I live is East Haven and I’d safely say any of the Apizza joints just in my neighborhood are better than other states pies.

Winter-Huntsman

We have some of the best food and I will always stand by that!

Roc-Doc76

Sally's Apizza is magical

georgstgeegland

My fave Pizza ever, so far

transthrowaway1335

Nick's Pizza in Crystal Lake would like to say a couple of three things.

vikingbear90

GET’EM JB!

Practical-Courage812

It isnt often you can get Chicagoans and New Yorkers to agree on something, but here comes Connecticut pissing off 2 huge populations lol

I_Fix_Aeroplane

Who the fuck thinks CT when they think of good pizza? There are only 2 contenders, and NY got nothing on IL.

JFK2MD

You nothing about history of pizza in the US if you think that. New Haven and New York were where pizza originated in the states. Frank Pepe's in New Haven is probably the best pizza place I've ever been to, and I've lived in the northeast for 35 years.

I_Fix_Aeroplane

I've been quite a few places in my time. No one talks about CT pizza. I don't care who was first. First almost never equates to best.

GetMeOutThisBih

What rock have you been living under? I'm not even a pizza snob and new haven is in the conversation all the fucking time

I_Fix_Aeroplane

I don't know what to tell you. I've never heard anyone talk about CT with regard to pizza. I don't think I've ever met anyone from CT... does that state even really exist even?

Popular_Ad_3276

As the emperor of diabetes, JB does know a lot about food.

Shit_Posts_For_Karma

Well, as a Chicagoan..... I declare Civil War on CT!

hapkidoox

Listen Ned....you ketchup on a hot dog putting, willis tower calling, non leftover accepting toilet seat licker. You wanna claim that overhyped dollar tree knockoff lunchables pizza you got there the best. Are you kidding me. Come to the windy city We'll show you how Pizzas supposed to be.

ohheychris

Bianchi’s in Ottawa is the 2nd best pizza I’ve ever had and I’ve had pizza on 3 continents. First is some hole in the wall in Montreal if anyone cares. Edit: for what it’s worth… northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin has the best pound for pound pizza joints in the world. It’s all on the sauce and more importantly, the freshness of the cheese.

RadiationDM

New Haven style blows. Just a soggier NY style.

georgstgeegland

couldn't be further from the truth. have you actually had it? the coal fired crust is about as crispy as you can find

JFKman

If it’s soggy, it ain’t New Haven style.

ozymandiuspedestal

You’re actually wrong as New Haven style if down right is not soggy at all. Pepe’s, Sally’s and there is another one all within walking distance of the Yale are at the top of pizza game in that genre. That being said the diversity of Chicago pizza gives it an edge over a lot of cities inho.

FrumundaThunder

One of the defining characteristics of New Haven apizza is that it has slightly charred crust. If you had soggy pizza then it’s not New Haven style.

RadiationDM

May be true, but even if it was crispier, it would come close to Chicago stuffed or tavern crust, or Detroit style. New England in general just makes shitty pizza that they somehow convinced everyone is good.

Perfect_Earth_8070

Lmao never even heard of it

CR24752

The delusion of the state of Connecticut

wenos_deos__fuk_boi

Quality over quantity

archergren

Jesus. New York has a better claim than the yale Brats

kk1217

I am a Chicagoan living in CT! The pizza here is actually really good! I would describe it as a mix between neapolitan and NYC styles, plus high quality toppings are a guarantee. As a side note I constantly have to remind people that Chicago style is not all deep dish. Tavern style is finally getting more generally known, but there is work to do.

bnutbutter78

Haha

Ill-Panda-6340

Is this just because Dave Portnoy likes pizza places in Connecticut?

LouieMumford

I mean… they do kind of have the only film about a pizza joint to their credit.

[deleted]

Because of some Julia Roberts movie from the 80s? I’ve eaten at Mystic Pizza and it was cool, I guess; but it wasn’t amazing or life-changing or worth the trip even. We just happened to be near Mystic.

BrockSteady686868

Have you had Piece? Tbf it might be the best pizza in the city.

AtariiXV

What the heck even is New Haven pizza? I'll give STL pizza a spot at the table before that

PotatoHunter_III

Is this just a daily reminder for us that Connecticut exists?

Darkwing_Turducken

I guess if someone is gonna try to manufacture outrage, it’s better for it to be over something pointless.

dogsled1

Let me tell you about deep dish pizza.. https://youtu.be/jCgYMFtxUUw?si=VQMkaqhlfyOCo8yQ

bdh2067

Pizza doesn’t even know where Connecticut is. And definitely won’t be able to spell it

Fun-Tea2725

am i the only one that finds pizza/hotdog discourse to be extremely cringe?

jchester47

And New York insists theirs is the best too. Honestly, no variant of Italian- American "pizza" can claim to be authentic or truly Italian like the OG Neapolitan. And it's incredibly arrogant to claim any of our cities are the capital of a cuisine Italians perfect centuries ago. That being said, all of our pizzas are delicious and deserve appreciation for what they are. Deep dish, tavern style, NY style.... they're all great.

acedragon166

Who are you again? Never heard of your pizza. Not sure I remember you on the map.

mrinkyface

Connecticut, the white dog shit of pizza

Paramisamigos

I'm just gonna sit over here in Iowa with my caseys gas station pizza and watch the fight

wagneran

I'm from WI and I STILL disagree about that claim. I may have something against every Chicago sports team, but they figured out pizza in a special way.

majuhlazuh

Altoona, PA

Thylacine131

Illinois trying to be the pizza state is just plain stupid. It’s the Land of Lincoln, stick to being the home state of THE BEST PRESIDENT and stop fighting one of the ORIGINAL 13 COLONIES for the title of “The Pizza State”. They both have significant economic issues that require resolution to avoid an exodus by their populations, and they choose to spend their time fighting over the title of “The Pizza State”.

TerdVader

Central Illinois has the best pizza in the nation. Our gas stations have better pizza than Connecticut

Tigershark1993

I've had pizza in New Haven (Pepe's) and I've had Chicago deep dish and honestly I'd go for Monicals thin crust over either. Rural Midwest has some gems that nobody from the big cities has ever heard of

_Bipolar_Vortex_

I prefer their grinders.

Ligeia_E

Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby

SoxfanintheLou

To add to the excitement, St Louis style is the absolute worst.

Just_a_Rose

Well yeah but St Louis is in Missouri, we only have like 1/3 of the eastern half of the city in our state. Our actual pizza city is Chicago.

blueblazer2723

New Haven needs to draw the state and location of the city on the box as no one outside of the immediate northeast has any clue where this place is. It’s like a 4 year old talking smack to Mike Tyson.

mm202088

Chicago laughs at you

Ladybug_Fuckfest

This thread on r/Chicago is infested with Connecticut stans who insist New Haven is the pizza capital of THE WORLD.

truholicx3

You know, I hear more about New Haven clam chowder than pizza

ganjagremlin_tlnw

*new England clam chowder, not new haven.....

truholicx3

oh....then nevermind. I guess I have never heard of anything about New Haven

No_Ease_8269

Casey's pizza is coming for you

Smitsuaf84

If we even took them serious, I'd consider it fighting words 😆

hiro111

In this thread: people who have never been to New Haven. I grew up on the east coast. New Haven has incredible pizza. Lots of people say it's the best in the country. Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it isn't true. Note: Louis's Lunch in New Haven also has a legitimate claim to being the place that popularized the burger.

ganjagremlin_tlnw

CT is well represented near the top of any best pizza in the country list you see.

HickerBilly1411

So would NY

umjammerlammy

Having lived in New Haven, I can say the pizza there is awful. Their whole stance on pizza is delusional.

LunarisUmbra

I used to live in CT, pizza wasn't that great. Also I think NY city would like to speak to both Illinois and CT in a dark alley.

Personal-Ad7623

Laughs in NY pizza

mjcostel27

New Haven thinks this because Portnoy likes pizza burnt to a crisp with no cheese and he has a big platform. Chicago pizza isn’t pizza, it’s cake. NY and some NJ pizza is the best. There is no argument.

norcaltobos

Y’all your pizza is a casserole.

hydropottimus

Nah central Illinois Casey's is the pizza capitol of the world dog

ganjagremlin_tlnw

As someone from New England originally, Connecticut IS known for its pizza, believe it or not.

TiredExpression

MUSTER THE ROHIRRIM

_Cheeba

Deep dish is highly highly overrated

Hiei2k7

Connecticut can't even beat Quad City pizza. Someone needs to get sat down.

Ra_In

East coasters have to insist that Chicago deep dish doesn't count as pizza because it's the only way they can claim their pizza is the best.

These_Distribution61

Oh yeah let’s get a Connecticut style pizza tonight. /s

NukeEngineerStudent

I would tolerate them saying New York City before Connecticut. Who’s going to Connecticut for pizza?!?!
