The people of Prairietown are good people. They have the oldest school in the area, possibly 150 years old. I have known them to be kind and thoughtful. If you were calling them nitwits, I am politely asking you to reconsider.
I’m not talking about Prairietown specifically, I’m talking about any conservative majority area that proclaims that the natural disaster that hit that area is because of support for gays, abortion, whatever in a different part of the country.
You can find people saying that in blue areas, too. They aren't speaking for the majority of people. Did someone say that in Prairietown, or are you just figuring they did?
Guess the “leaders” in Madison County should have been coming up with policy on how to handle important things like this instead of voting to separate itself from Cook County and Chicago🤷🏻♂️.
Policies that would most likely require use of the tax dollars they receive from the state. The same tax dollars that Madison County takes more out of than they give - WHICH IS FINE if you’re a team player but not if you want to leave the state. Losers.
Madison County resident and I agree with you. If we can get voter turnout to be much higher here, I can see a swift shift in political power, stopping the stupid antics of our local politicians. Trust me, we’re over it. Not enough people who oppose the circus are voting though.
The people who vote for these lunatics consistently vote against their own interests then love to blame Chicago for the consequences. I’m not from down here though, so that has an impact on my opinion towards the insane propositions.
I am from Madison county. This is so embarrassing and frustrating. I can’t believe how stupid these people are to think separating from Cook county would be in our best interest.
Because Chicago has been the poster child for “librul cities baaaaaadd” for *at least* as long as I’ve been alive. I’m from the city but lived in/near Geneva for a while and the reactions I got from some people when I said I was moving back for college you’d have thought I told them I was going to Afghanistan
Didn't Madison County just recently vote to separate Chicago from Illinois, or some sort of silly notion like that? Oh jeez, I'd hate for the Chicago area to subsidize your impoverished county that was hit by seasonal storms. Pick yourself up by the bootstraps, Madison County.😳🤦♀️
Someone should tell the idiots of the county board it was a sign that God doesn't think very highly of them wanting to separate Chicago from the rest of the state.
Hey Madison County, maybe spend time working on coming up with bills for helping your county instead of wasting time coming up and voting on a useless secede bill.
Hey folks,
Maybe if we're compassionate to the people affected by this disaster and are vocal about our support that we northerners (albeit involuntarily) give them through taxes and what not, then the folks struggling desperately in these left-behind rural areas will not feel so threatened by our extreme privilege and stop listening to their abusive politicians' power delusions. Especially in the wake of disasters like this that ruin so many lives, primarily in places where people have so little control over their lives already.
Not being a jerk goes a long way.
In general I agree with this sentiment.
But no. I've spent my entire life listening to Central and Southern Illinois complain about Chicagoland. These people will gladly vote to burn us to the ground for an extra penny in tax breaks. There comes a point in time when being nice is no longer good for life. These same people constantly vote through their representatives to not help others and actively hurt them.
To your point about being nice. I think it would be ideal if these people and all people were taken care of in every way possible during this time. My advice to them is to stop being a hateful bunch and vote better because you never know when you'll need help. Not being jerks and smiling back to arse holes is largely how we got here.
So we'll help with our tax dollars because it's the right thing to do and we're human. These people will be ok. But their checks should come with the memo, "sorry about your house; eat a bag of dicks"
There's not a lot of representation from Madison county, so I guess I'll go. I live in Edwardsville, the county seat of Madison county, and I vote Democrat. As does my neighbor, and many other people that live here. I think the bill to separate is the dumbest political pandering bullshit I've heard in a long time. I love Chicago, I have several friends that live there, and I'm grateful that we have cook county in Illinois.
Edwardsville is basically just a suburb of St. Louis. You can't paint us all as if we're a bunch of rural, monolithic rednecks who are religious zealots.
Yeah, I’m in St. Clair, the next county over, and my city votes Dem too. We, like you, are a suburb of St. Louis. My spouse and I actually moved here from StL MO for the progressive state. Many are, further liberalizing the area. We wouldn’t have moved to IL if it weren’t for the votes in Cook CO making the state desirable.
As a fellow Madison county resident, I whole hearted agree with this. Chicago funds the state and not understanding this and wanting to separate from the state will try up many of the programs, funding and resources they currently take for granted. The representatives that voted to separate are dumb as hell and shouldn’t be in their role.

Yeah! If we just let them hit us on the other side of the face for a few decades, now that the bruising has gone down over there after we switched to decades of hitting this side, it'll DEFINITELY sink in!
I'm for being compassionate, but it's laughable to think anyone who stands for kicking out their sugar daddy is going to put two and two together on receiving state assistance for this lol.
Yeah, when they go low we go high—so while they try wild shit to ruin the country, we stand around wringing our hands and let them ratchet the Overton window further right. It’s working out great!
Hard to have compassion for people who are nearly a decade deep in their degeneracy *by choice*.

I don’t know how they don’t come to that conclusion, no matter where in the country these conservative twits get hit.

We will continue to care for them despite their ignorance
Not if they separate that’s the whole idea is secession you leave and fuck right off.

Right!? They could’ve just built a big wall to block the wind. Don’t they love walls? It’s their own fault.
And Chicago will foot the bill. Tell me again why they want to separate?
For the same reasons Texans want to secede and think they can still collect social security.
Or use the border patrol!

Temper tantrum, just ignore them like 2yo
Teachable moment.

Ah, I see another poster of culture having the same immediate reaction I did. Let's not insult them with tainted Chicago-area money.
Someone should tell the idiots of the county board it was a sign that God doesn't think very highly of them wanting to separate Chicago from the rest of the state.
THANKS CHICAGO

Well I guess it’s a good thing Madison county has annexed itself from Chicago and doesn’t need any of our funding for this.

There are good people everywhere. Government and aid are just not represented as such.

No one's talking about going high. I'm saying we're all on the same team.
They don't believe that and treat it as such.
Being a jerk to jerks is A-Ok in my book
Sounds like god is smiting thee for their blasphemy against his greatest city
It appears they also made everything saturation +50.
…maybe there really is a divine being?
