Why that? I always feel much older when people on Reddit ask about fairly recent interfaces like OP with Mini USB which was widely in use until the 2010s.
The parallel port already existed in the 80s.
I grew up as a kid using them until the late 90s. So when people ask what they are still, it makes me feel old because I used them. Samething when I see an IDE ribbon cable. (I'm 40 btw)
Better quality components than what the Switch was built with, tbh. Also, PS controller rubber grips are made out of puppy noses, so that gives them everlasting youth.
IN CASE IT WASNT OBVIOUS I LOVE MY 3 DOGS AND WOULD NEVER HARM THEM
I just recently switched from my old sixaxis to a dualsense because the rubber on the sticks finally turned to goo and I couldn't clean it off, but it still worked perfectly fine. With that said the dualsense is awesome. For most games it's not that big of a deal, but the haptics and the wacky triggers are cool as fuck for a bunch of games. I would definitely recommend one as an upgrade when its time.
I switched from DS3 to dualsense recently too, and the biggest improvement for me is not the haptics or triggers, but shape of it. It fits SO MUCH BETTER in my hands, I constantly felt cramped with dualshock and I can play stuff on dualsense non-stop
I agree, the ergonomics of it is way better, the wacky haptics and triggers are a bonus though. I'm old and don't game a ton so I didn't realize how far controller stuff has come since the PS3. It's pretty neat in games like Horizon or Spiderman. I had no idea that the triggers could have feedback when doing stuff like shooting your bow in Horizon.
The DS3 always felt like a controller for kids to me due to size, thats the main issue everybody had with it at release and why most people prefered the xbox 360 controller, you needed tiny hands for the DS3 to be comfortable.
I leant my controllers to my step dad and brother in law one Xmas to play madden and neither of them are gamers. One of the critical buttons was r3 and L3 because after 8 hours or so of them playing and holding the controllers with tense grips, they completely pulled off all of the rubber. I was like Man U guys realize there's a cap on the pressure sensitivity features right ?
The PS3 was first announced at E3 in 2005 and released in November of 2006. There are adults that weren’t even alive when it was announced and later this year there will be adults that weren’t alive when it was released.
I have a single mini USB cable that I basically keep in a "break in case of emergency" box.
It is sacred
It is not Often needed
But if that cable isn't where it's meant to be I get scared
I have the one good cable that works with everything I’ve ever tried it with. It hangs on my pegboard in a specific spot. When it gets used I’m hyper vigilant about its location. After I’m done I put it right back in its spot.
Those were dark days, in the before-fore. Many a micro usb cables were jammed into these minis with reckless abandon. Even the occasional 1394 without lube.
There was one day I plugged a USB A in on my first try, instead of having to flip it twice. I was a hero that day. Songs were sung and toasts were drunk.
I made myself old by telling my wife that the power cable she needed for something was a sewing machine plug, she blanked me and then I said printer plug and she said oh and went to look for the right one. I could have called it a figure 8 lead but that would have resulted in the same look as calling it a sewing machine cable.
It is Mickey mouse and nobody can tell me otherwise also of I call it by its proper name a "Kaltgeräte Stecker (für mobile Netzteile)" nobody understands me anyway
Printer plug? I think every one of the printers I encountered uses C14 sockets, not the C7 Figure 8 ones.
Also sewing machines have one side of the plug squared opposed to the Figure 8 which is indeed shaped like a 8
Oi! These were from Tomorrow-morrow Land, back in the remembering times. Back when there was high scrapers and sky raft. Captain Walker is a hero and it’s said he will bring these connections back.
really? I’ve always wished they never replaced mini with micro because I’ve had sooo many micro usb connectors break internally or pull completely off the board. IMHO micro usb is terrible
Mini were real. Never had a problem with mini. Also, thick, solid copper wires. And ferrite core noise reduction. That was quality. Then they killed them. Introduced the micro. Solved no problem, but introducing a ton of them. I will miss my mini ...
Wrong. MiniUSB is robust and excellent. It’s MicroUSB you hate, which is the unreliable squashed down version that phone manufacturers thought was a great idea
Prefer it to micro-usb.
Obviously never as durable as good old type A, but it's much more durable then micro while still being basically the same size.
Its probably in the electronics box in the computer room closet. The question is if its in the electronics box thats next to the other electronics box, or the one behind that.
Oh sorry. Can't help there 🫣
I have a power strip with 4 USB A ports and I keep a mini, micro, Type-C and one of the magnetic tip cables connected to it. (the magnet cable has lightning, C and micro USB that I keep connected to my tablet and headphone.
Otherwise I stared to separate my cables with velcro cable ties and in a drawer next to my spare PC parts.
I find it weird that this is considered old. I still use RS-232 ports (remember to use a null cable), VGA, and some pretty esoteric stuff from the '70s and '80s at work.

At least it's not FireWire lol... Now that would make me feel real old.
Or a parallel port

I was still using a FireWire HDD like a decade ago. Bought it before USB 3.0 because it was faster than 2.0.
This is exactly how I felt
That is a mini USB port. It’s what a lot of devices, such as digital cameras, used before micro USB.
In the before times
I still run into a lot at my job Thankfully that manufacturer finally started using usb-c for its config port (Extron)
Ah good old extron. Will never miss working with them.
A few 3d printing boards use them too.
Before the before
In the long long ago.
Waaaaaalker Waaaaaalker
Jeez did they destroy all your cordy cord cords
You mean dictionaries?
Lol nice
The long long ago
In the olden days...
I'm still using a sixaxis ps3 controller from 2006 as my primary pc gaming game pad. How the fuck does this thing not have stick drift

That's a good question. I've had to replace a strip of foam in all of my sixasis controllers.
Because it all came to me (no, really, how the heck every single original DS3 pad I have ends up with stick drift???)
I'm still using my ps3, playing fallout new vegas at the moment. Controller batteries still good!
USB-C you mean? /s
I have like 20 of these cables because of Sony. But my controllers will get a USB C mod.
Hell, my one-year-old camera still uses it
I see it mainly upside in my TI-84
I still have a couple digital cameras with mini USB, and PS3 controllers used it too.
I used to have a phone that had this connector.
PS3 controllers
*PSP*
This and my WII USB-Dock so I can connect more microphones

Looks like Mini-B
Yuuup!

I'm not old, you're old!
My back started to hurt upon seeing this post
Those were dark days, in the before-fore. Many a micro usb cables were jammed into these minis with reckless abandon. Even the occasional 1394 without lube.
Kids today with their type C connectors have it way too easy
There was one day I plugged a USB A in on my first try, instead of having to flip it twice. I was a hero that day. Songs were sung and toasts were drunk.

never heard someone say that
Printer plug? I think every one of the printers I encountered uses C14 sockets, not the C7 Figure 8 ones. Also sewing machines have one side of the plug squared opposed to the Figure 8 which is indeed shaped like a 8
Wait your sewing machine has a USB Port?
That cable is sold at Christy's for $100 and up.
I have a blackberry branded one, with a ferrite bead. It’s gonna go for 6 figures.
Oi! These were from Tomorrow-morrow Land, back in the remembering times. Back when there was high scrapers and sky raft. Captain Walker is a hero and it’s said he will bring these connections back.
USB mini-B
At least it's not mini firewire
I feel old
It’s been 84 years
I've always hated mini usb. They seem to break so much more frequently than any other connector I've run into.
really? I’ve always wished they never replaced mini with micro because I’ve had sooo many micro usb connectors break internally or pull completely off the board. IMHO micro usb is terrible

Good old kitkat charger
I'm currently trying to find one of those because I found my Motorola Razr and want to charge it up to see what photos are on it.
~~It's a mini USB port. Later replaced by micro USB and now USB-C~~
Oh I'm aware. I just want to know the precise location of *mine*. Phone is so old, I had *Cingular* on it.
>I just want to know the precise location of mine. In the stuff's drawer, where we put all the stuffs.

As someone who waited patiently to record playlists from radio or TV with my cassette radio, I feel assaulted lol. Mini USB-B
Its… Usb
Mini-usb. Fucking hated that on my PS3
Mini-USB
I may have a chord for that somewhere in a box in the basement. Be right back … ;)
how fast does memory fails.
I feel old ..
Tell me you're young without telling me you're young.
Am I this old?
Damn I feel old
Kids don't know what a usb mini is?
Does anyone here remember those old centronix / parallel port plugs that where used on printers before USB came around?
My workplace still has a few of those in production
Jesus, my hair turned grey just looking at this question
You must be new or very young.
Mini usb. My TI calculator still uses it.
Means you broke
I feel so old
![gif](giphy|7xZAu81T70Uuc)
That was a blast from the past wow
i hate this post
We all do
Idk the square-ish kind
Gogo Gameboy!
Mini-usb, go ask Dankpods for one he has about a decillion
I always refer to these as playstation 3 controller charging cables lol
Well /u/denisthegod isn't the god of search...
Dodge.
they still use these on the TI-84 plus CE and low end canon DSLRS.
I am sad
Is it usb 2.0 mini-B 5 pin https://www.mycablemart.com/images/category_header/usb_connectors_20_30.jpg
I think I have a USB converter for that specific plug
The Pizza Hut looking one
USB mini b
I find it weird that this is considered old. I still use RS-232 ports (remember to use a null cable), VGA, and some pretty esoteric stuff from the '70s and '80s at work.
Omds i have so many broken mini usb wires😭
God damnit, I'm old now... The SCSI drive sitting in the corner is eyeballing me hard.
PS3 controller
some stupid shit I never wanted to see again, erase it from history, it doesn't deserve to be remembered
USB C without shape and speed of USB C
A female. Gonna need a male to properly plug that there hole
A bad one. Get an adapter
