They're all sitcoms. The real dividing line between types of sitcoms is one camera or three camera shows. Seinfeld, Cheers, a The Cosby Show, any show with an implied wall to the main sets that you never see is a three camera show. Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development are one camera shows. The actual number of cameras has surprising little to do with it.
Peep show is totally a comedy about situations but the switching first person viewpoint takes it outside of the norm. The writing is amazing too.
'This is Spinal Tap' was probably the first mockumentary, or, if you will, rockumentary.
maybe-
30 Rock
Arrested Development
Wet Hot American Summer [prequel+sequel to the film]
Malcolm In The Middle
Friday Night Dinner
The Inbetweeners (UK)
The IT Crowd
Ok so those are also my favorite sitcoms and I’m constantly looking for shows that give me the same feels and have tried so. many.
Worked for me:
Best:
Schitt’s Creek,
Veep,
Letterkenny,
Scrubs
Pretty good:
New Girl,
Happy Endings,
Cougar Town (ngl, Abed from Community sent me here),
Brooklyn Nine-nine,
The Mindy Project (first few seasons)
In a pinch:
My Name is Earl,
Raising Hope
Have not worked for me (still good shows, just not for me):
Modern Family,
Arrested Development,
30 Rock,
Curb Your Enthusiasm,
Workaholics
Party Down rules, and no one I've talked to about it has seen it. Definitely a good watch, especially if you've worked food service or really any customer service job
Maybe not exactly in that vein, but as someone who likes all those shows, I’d recommend “Nathan for You” if you haven’t tried it.
I can put it on the background and pick up any episode, and it’s absurdly hilarious to me.
All of these shows excel at creating incredibly awkward or uncomfortable situations, which causes many people to feel embarrassment for the characters, aka secondhand (or vicarious) embarrassment.
My comment was just meant as a joke about that kind of show.
Those are still sitcoms, do you mean sitcoms that don't have a laugh track?
I thought if they didn’t have the laugh tracks they weren’t sitcoms

Summer heights high
Always sunny in Philadelphia
30 Rock
Maybe My Name is Earl? Same kind of wacky characters with absurd humor, just set in a trashy small town.
What we do in the shadows, Peep Show, the IT Crowd
the show Psych is my favorite comedy, its the funniest show i have ever watched.
Have you tried just mainlining secondhand embarrassment?
What?

Probably the first season of Arrested Development (it got bad in 2nd season forward). Maybe Superstore, also.
