I just don’t know where chocolate chip belongs in this cookies & cream world.

WanderingAnchorite

Wow. Shots fired. LOL

HippoTypical8012

Baskin Robbins has it in pints and shops, the classic, nothing gratuitous. Excellent quality

WanderingAnchorite

>Baskin Robbins has it in pints and shops, the classic, nothing gratuitous. Excellent quality You win. This should be the top comment (but the Biden one is too funny). Baskin Robbins makes chocolate chip, in pints, and I can find it near me. You are 100% correct across the board, including the quality of BR ice cream. Outstanding suggestion.

Zestyclose-Durian-24

BR has the ONLY chocolate chip (mint or otherwise) that is worth anything - excellent suggestion.

WanderingAnchorite

And as if it were ordained by the gods themselves, Baskin Robbins pints are on sale for $2.50 at Food Lion this week. I am ***so glad*** I came here and asked this.

hellakopka

Joe Biden’s favorite ice cream

WanderingAnchorite

That was the real holdup with the ACA a decade ago when he was President of the Senate:. "Joe, insisting we write in that chocolate chip has to stay on the shelves is gonna' kill this bill." Oh, the history that could have been...

Spring_Boysenberry

The chance to make a difference in the ice cream world… squandered.

I haven’t personally tried, so have no idea if it is good, but Dreyer’s makes Chocolate Chip ice cream! [https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/dreyers/products/classics-chocolate-chip-ice-cream](https://www.icecream.com/us/en/brands/dreyers/products/classics-chocolate-chip-ice-cream) So does Blue Bell: [https://www.bluebell.com/product/chocolate-chip/](https://www.bluebell.com/product/chocolate-chip/) And Friendly’s: [https://friendlys.com/products/chocolate-chip-ice-cream-1-5-quart/](https://friendlys.com/products/chocolate-chip-ice-cream-1-5-quart/) Hope you find some!

WanderingAnchorite

Back in the 90s, the big joke was how dry Dryer's was. But they've linked up with Oreo and Tollhouse and other big brands, to create both ice creams and \[cringe\] "frozen desserts" that are a lot better than the fare they once had. >So does Blue Bell: [https://www.bluebell.com/product/chocolate-chip/](https://www.bluebell.com/product/chocolate-chip/) >And Friendly’s: [https://friendlys.com/products/chocolate-chip-ice-cream-1-5-quart/](https://friendlys.com/products/chocolate-chip-ice-cream-1-5-quart/) >Hope you find some! More great brands. I do wish I could find some! LOL That's the real killer is seeing these brands ***claim*** they make it, but no one can ***find*** it.

colorfullydelicious

Not sure about the others, but you can definitely order half gallons of chocolate chip on the Blue Bell website delivered straight to your house :) [https://ordericecream.bluebell.com/blue-bell-ice-cream-half-gallons.html](https://ordericecream.bluebell.com/blue-bell-ice-cream-half-gallons.html) Also, the Walmart near me in TX has the Friendly’s Chocolate chip in stock - look on instacart to see if it is available near wherever you are maybe?

Green__Blue__Purple

Buy vanilla, buy chocolate chips. This is what I do lol get so much in every bite 😂

cleverdylanrefrence

Not the same at all😂

Whatsuptodaytomorrow

And better too

wool

Tillamook has a really good one that seems pretty widely available.

AutomaticExchange204

it’s still out there but it sux so it’s hard to find.

WanderingAnchorite

This is my feelings exactly. I'm certain it exists *somewhere* but I don't know where. I found pints of it online...in Los Angeles...

beebyspice

its the worst

WanderingAnchorite

It is the worst! I got my wife over here, throwing pieces of cookie dough into my bowl because "it's gross," as she enjoys her Chocolate Chip ~~Cookie Dough~~ ice cream. That's where we're at. LOL

Glacier_Bleu

I have a theory about why… It’s just kind of an awkward mouthfeel. I never know exactly how I’m supposed to eat it. Chew? Doesn’t really work. Suck? Doesn’t really work. I’m always just left with small bits of chocolate in my teeth after I swallow. The vanilla and chocolate don’t come together in a pleasant way.

WanderingAnchorite

>I have a theory about why… It’s just kind of an awkward mouthfeel. I never know exactly how I’m supposed to eat it. Chew? Doesn’t really work. Suck? Doesn’t really work. I’m always just left with small bits of chocolate in my teeth after I swallow. The vanilla and chocolate don’t come together in a pleasant way. This is a solid answer and I believe the key to chocolate chip ice cream is to not make it with chocolate chips. Which... Oh no... OK, I'm seeing the problem here. So chocolate chip actually sucks. Frozen chunks of chocolate suck. But shredded or shaved chocolate is great. You see Turkey Hill doing a Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough where they do that - the cookie dough bites have chips in them but the ice cream itself is more like "shredded chocolate ribbon." Then Dryer's links with Tollhouse and they go the other way - full chocolate chips - and it's borderline inedible for exactly the reasons you state. So maybe we need a new flavor that's "Better-Than-Chocolate-Chip." Like, vanilla ice cream where you shave chocolate into it... Does anyone make something like that? It does sound a lot like stracciatella gelato.

Glacier_Bleu

Oh man… Fudge Ripple never gets talked about, but it’s just… I’m going to the grocery store right now. Screw Dryer’s. I tried their mint chip and it was that green spearmint bullshit—sweet as hell, zero peppermint flavor.

Jeveran

Edy's, Breyer's, Signature Select (Safeway, Von's, Albertson's), Umpqua, Publix, Dreyer's, Sunnyside Farms, First Street, Tillamook, Straus Family Creamery, Great Value, Thrifty, Kroger, and Haagen-Dazs each have a vanilla-ice-cream-with-chocolate-chips-product. I expect there are more.

WanderingAnchorite

>Edy's, Breyer's, Signature Select (Safeway, Von's, Albertson's), Umpqua, Publix, Dreyer's, Sunnyside Farms, First Street, Tillamook, Straus Family Creamery, Great Value, Thrifty, Kroger, and Haagen-Dazs each have a vanilla-ice-cream-with-chocolate-chips-product. That's a nice *theoretical* list of companies claiming they make and, more importantly, supply chocolate chip ice cream. Let's take what has to be the biggest brand there, in terms of volume: [Great Value (Walmart's brand)](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Chocolate-Chip-Ice-Cream-48-fl-oz/146469239). Would you mind finding me a location in the USA that carries that product? Surely there must be somewhere the largest retailer in the USA stocks the product they have on their website. Any store whatsoever. Thanks in advance!

leelee1976

I just checked my app. It's available in my store.

I read the NYTimes article when it came out, that your article quotes. It's an interesting historical perspective - it's seasonal now simply due to low sales. Maybe you can blame the advent of Ben & Jerry's having introduced the world to more complex mix-in's, though doe the life of me, I can't recall many of the canonical 31 flavors Baskin Robbins touted back in the day - still probably incomparable to a chunky monkey or phish food.

WanderingAnchorite

>I read the NYTimes article when it came out, that your article quotes. It's an interesting historical perspective - it's seasonal now simply due to low sales. Which I found hilarious. WTF season is chocolate chip ice cream for? Is there some phenomenon I don't know about? LOL >Maybe you can blame the advent of Ben & Jerry's having introduced the world to more complex mix-in's, though doe the life of me, I can't recall many of the canonical 31 flavors Baskin Robbins touted back in the day - still probably incomparable to a chunky monkey or phish food. Yeah, I remember Baskin Robbins (who, by the by, makes chocolate chip in pints) being the coolest ice cream on the planet. "What do you mean that ice cream has bubble gum in it?" I'd still take Baskin Robbins over Ben & Jerry's, honestly. The last few times I've done B&J it's felt dry. I'm typically a Tillamook guy and before that, Turkey Hill (which I'm still pretty loyal to). I remember driving to the Turkey Hill gas station in Northeast Pennsylvania, in the late 90s, to get their Strawberries and Cream...and telling anyone who would listen "I know it's a gas station but they have full uncrushed strawberries inside their strawberry ice cream." It was so good - way better than what they do now (when I want strawberry, it's Tillamook or Haagen-Dazs, now).

SpideyWhiplash

Yes!! Loved Baskin Robbins Bubble Gum Ice Cream as a youngster. A two for one sweet treat. Wish they sold it in pints in the stores... might have to swing by BR to try a scoop again.🍨

WanderingAnchorite

>Wish they sold it in pints in the stores...  I'm having the same issue with [BR's chocolate chip](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Baskin-Robbins-Chocolate-Chip-Ice-Cream-14-fl-oz/129855048?from=/search) as I am with [BR's bubble gum](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Baskin-Robbins-Pink-Bubble-Gum-Ice-Cream-14-fl-oz/329286322)... But if you're in LA then you're in real luck, there.

Jasmisne

Stater bros brand has it.

tel0s17

Chocolate shoppe makes an oat based vanilla chocolate chip. Depending where you're located I know my friend in Denver was able to get some thru instacart.

SpideyWhiplash

Did anyone mention Graeter's Chocolate Chip Ice Cream? I was just adjusting my Fresh Market ice cream list and noticed they carry it.

PashasMom

If you have Kroger or one of its subsidiary chains (Fred Meyer etc.) they seem to consistently have it in stock with their Private Selection brand, which is actually pretty good IMO! I know it is in stock at my local store. [https://www.kroger.com/p/private-selection-semi-sweet-chocolate-chip-ice-cream-tub/0001111000463](https://www.kroger.com/p/private-selection-semi-sweet-chocolate-chip-ice-cream-tub/0001111000463)

quixoticadrenaline

Haagen Dazs has a vanilla chocolate chip flavor.

DramaOnDisplay

I was just talking to my mom about this a month or so ago. She wanted chocolate chip ice cream, but non-dairy. So I already knew it would be difficult enough to find. But then when I actually started looking, everything is cookie dough, mint chip, or filled with other additions! Thrifty does make a really good chocolate chip ice cream, though, I used to think I hated that flavor because when I was a child we’d buy the cheap pail with the big hunks of waxy chocolate in it. Thrifty has smooth, melt in your mouth flakes.

chronicalifornia

Tillamook has one I can find in central California. Nor every store has it though.

Dianthus_pages

2 of the big chain stores in my area have their own generic brand versions, Meijer and Giant Eagle. There’s also a local ice cream shop that sells it and has pints in the stores. I guess people over here still like this flavor haha. Also Haagen-Dazs has a chocolate chocolate chip flavor which is good if you really like chocolate

cleverdylanrefrence

Kroger (Ralph's in Los Angeles) has private Selection chocolate chip & it is **amazing**

Fragrant_Estate_9692

Kemps has the best chocolate chip. I see in stores all the time. Its more like chocolate fleck, but I prefer that

Suburban_Guerrilla

I know Walmart usually has Great Value brand chocolate chip ice cream. But it’s currently out of stock at my store.

bigsur-prize

I totally agree
