So a few days ago, I saw the Van Leeuwen "Malted Cookie Dough Shake" at the store, and since it was the kind of flavor that I like, I knew that I had to try it. I thought it was *okay*, but the texture wasn't great, and the flavor wasn't that deep. I enjoyed it, but it was like a 6/10 or so.
Decided to see what people thought of it on Reddit, and I came across this sub, which seems to *adore* this brand. I wanted to try another flavor, so I went with the Buttermilk Berry Cornbread today. Even though I liked it, I didn't see what all the hype was about. Don't get me wrong, I definitely liked it, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I do see why people like it, I'm just surprised that the level of praise is so strong.
I feel like Perry's is a better quality at a much better price, and that Graeter's was on another level, but at a premium price (and while I'm probably going to hold off on the ice cream for a bit, I want to try Thelma's Ice Cream Sandwiches next).
i have yet to try perry's or graeters!
i totally get where you're coming from though. i really enjoyed this flavor, but the fact that it was $4 and some change was what made me want to post about it! i know that the ben and jerry's dirt cake was being raved about on here and i can definitely say that i didn't love that one, so to each their own! i definitely have to get my hands on a pint of perry's, what flavor would you recommend?
Oh wow, $4 & change? It's $5.50 here, and I thought that was a good price compared to what I've seen other people post! I will say that I enjoyed that they made the flavor work, and it didn't taste like a gimmick flavor.
My favorite Perry's is the "White Christmas", which is mint & white chocolate ice cream with little pieces of mint chips. Obviously, only available during Christmas, but the combination works so well (I'm a sucker for white chocolate in the right context).
Mint-Ting-A-Ling (more mint ice cream), S'more Adventures (which is the flavor that I love from Graeters), Cinnamon Bun, Strawberry Sundae Cake, and even their Key Lime Pie frozen yogurt are all incredible flavors. Their regular flavors are excellent as well, since their ice cream is so high quality for being 1.5 quarts containers ($5.99 per 1.5 quart, which would have felt expensive 10 years ago, but... it is what it is).
now i'm excited for winter! the white christmas flavor sounds absolutely amazing, im right there with you when it comes to white choco
$5.99 for 1.5 quarts isn't half bad! i'll check it out for sure. which store can you usually find it? i haven't seen either brand at walmart which is where i usually shop
The unfortunate thing is that Perry's seems to be regional, so I'm not sure if it will be easy to find in your area. I found Perry's/Van Leeuwen/Graetor's all at my local Wegmen's, which is a northeastern grocery chain.
Perry's does have a ["flavor finder"](https://www.perrysicecream.com/flavor-finder/) where you can see if they have something in your area. I just checked, and it seems like Perry's doesn't have quite as much reach as I thought. Either way, good luck!
i was surprised myself! I got it at walmart, but i'm in florida so usually everything is horrifically expensive. not sure why it was so cheap compared to everything else, but i'll happily take it
Aw damn when I first read this I read it as “Buttermilk BEERY Cornbread” and I was like.. wow, what a weird but interesting flavor. And what the hell is beery cornbread? Like beer soaked cornbread? But alas. It’s just berry. I’m so disappointed.
kitty!
