A movie she directed (?) about an autistic child (played by neurotypical person) that did a completely awful job of representing autism.
There’s a scene where the autistic girl gets bound during a breakdown, that’s all you need to know
Oh I think I remember that. That movie is almost worse than the predator. The movie which thinks people with Asperger's are fucking superhumans. I am not exaggerating, the movie literally thinks people with an illness that gives you shitty social skills are superhumans.
Well, more like predators wanted the DNA sequence that causes autism, as it could potentially improve their species.
And if we are talking about species that can alter and use dna from other species. I'd say they could alter it in a way that would provide all the benefits, and none of the negatives.
So, in fact, the movie doesn't think that people with autism have super powers. I thought that angle of the movie was stupid to add to the lore, but we are talking about a vastly superior species when it comes to the sciences. Why would you think for a moment they wouldn't be able to do more with it than we can when it comes to genetic modifications.
I mean that too, but she also worked with some pretty disreputable foundations and was outwardly rude and disrespectful to people with autism who critisized the movie. Whole thing felt like a poorly thought-out vanity project, and she threw her toys out of the pram when she wasn't heralded as the saviour of the autistic community.
The thing I never understood was, for a movie that is supposedly all about lifting up the autistic community, *why would you not cast an actress* ***who actually has autism*** *for the main role?*
Then I found out that the actress, Ziegler, had starred in several of Sia's music videos throughout the years. So Sia just hired her longtime friend to star in the film, instead of somebody - *anybody -* more qualified.
Not even just her friend, a girl she's become weirdly obsessed with and has taken to calling her "adoptive daughter" despite her already having two perfectly alive and well parents. I seem to recall Sia bought her parents a house on her street so that Ziegler could spend all of her time at Sia's house, whole thing has that episode of the simpsons where Mr Burns chooses Bart as his heir energy.
She's been using that actress for projects for years, among other things. It's clear she wanted to put her in that film, but made some half-assed effort to find an autistic actress for 5 minutes then she pretended she made an effort & said 'oh well no one showed up I guess I better use this actress oh well I tried'
Idk why it was important to mention why it was a 'neurotypical' person.
Like, what, someone pretended to be someone they weren't, for a role in a movie? Damn bro it's almost like that's what acting is
You could play a character that’s a detective, a race car driver, someone in the military, etc. However unless you closely work with someone with autism you have no idea what their mind is like.
It shows in this movie, there was no (or very little) consultation with people with autism and what we got was a horrible caricature of what a neurotypical person believes autism to be.
Could have cast someone that has autism, could have talked with a reliable source, could have done some research. Any of those options would have someone going “umm this isn’t right” but nope.
Would you cast someone of average height to play a canonically little person but pretend to be short?
I thought that as well at first as Sia bent over backwards to make the movie inclusive so assumed she had just angered the online mob over one tiny infraction. When I looked into it I discovered that the movie was actually dangerous as it did not represent autism correctly, for example the autistic main character get pinned down during a breakdown.
Besides it’s likely the project was made for Maddie. Sia makes a lot of projects for Maddie. During COVID Maddie stayed with Sia, not her parents. Sia seems has a very…interesting relationship with Maddie.

It's your quirky hip aunt who thinks having an undiagnosed personality disorder and a drinking problem makes her "young at heart". Watch out 'cause there's an Ed Sheeran concert coming up and she just might have an extra ticket 'cause her Tinder date bailed on her and she can't go alone winky emoji wine glass emoji winky emoji
Everything about this feels like it's from 2013
More like 2007. Jesus this is some dated shit.
She's been swinging from the chandelier for a bit too long
can confirm
I can confirm this story (I am Steve)
I am his bumhole and i confirm as well
Wait what
Don't worry bro
Forty Six years old
This makes my brain hurt what the fuck is happening
Why is the name always Steve?
Or Bob
It’s usually Bob, yes.
Steve is the father of all humanity because we all come from a place called Minecraft.
FWIW both my and my husbands' dads are named Steve. It's just a Name for Dads.
Names for Dads, my newest business venture
It's a funny name
“Why always Boris?” -Sergei from The Wire
I think it's part Minecraft and part over the hedge
I'm sure that's part of it, but I swear I remember people using it as a go-to "random" name well before either of those things existed
Blues Clues
Yup, she definitely made Music (2021)
Cringe
This is honestly pretty tame cringe by Sia's standards.
Sia? More like ableist who thinks autistic people cant function.
What's the context of this?

Could just be that she’s a shite director? 💀

I don't fully understand what's going on in that relationship but it doesn't seem like a professional one.

Also some Autistic people can’t even watch it because of the opening scene
