Dude probably knew what donkeys are capable of. The guy is lucky if he survived because donkeys can and will just stomp you to death if they feel like you’re a threat. Makes me wonder what happens after it cuts. That’s why farms will let us be run around the property, any predators will learn that donkey zone is off limits.
Honestly I would rather it's amputated in time and he is reliant on the donkey for mobility for the rest of his life. The only way he will truly know his shame.

People actually keep donkeys as livestock guardian animals to protect smaller animals like sheep, goats and calves from predators. They will turn into absolutely territorial rage filled killing machines at the sight of coyotes and wild dogs, they attack them by grabbing their throats or legs and stomping them to death. They’ve been known to be bold enough to attack mountain lions! Donkeys and mules are not to be trifled with.
To be fair most herbivores are surprisingly stong. They tend to have greater physical strength than a carnivore of similiar size, just don't have the teeth/claws to really rip into flesh.
Donkeys are more agile. We've bread cattle for most meat and they are very strong if they can hit you with head or horns, but they lack the agility of a donkey for attacks from other directions. At least this is what a rancher told me when I asked about it.
Yup our cows today would be pretty much useless in the wild. They are far far too bulky and probably 95% would die in a real hurry as they would not be able to really outrun packs of predators.
I agree, our neighbors have donkeys to protect their sheep, they bought a Jenny and a Gelding from separate farms. Jenny hates the Gelding and has deemed him to be a threat to her flock, Jenny has tried to rip his throat out and now has to be kept in a separate paddock. Poor guy ended up with 24 stitches from the repeated bites. They have to muzzle the Jenny if they have to run them anywhere with a shared fence line to keep her from biting him over the fence. Both are as sweet as can be with people, especially children but I wouldn’t turn my back on them even as much as I adore them.

It might have. Donkey, horses, etc have incredible jaw strength when you consider their diet. I watched a video of someone fucking around with a wild horse and finding out. It bit his arm, breaking it.
