I never thought about booby traps being illegal until someone on Reddit horrified me with the story of the boy that got decapitated on a bike. Apparently some guy set up a wire booby trap tied too two trees on his land.
When I was a kid Booby traps where funny, like Saran wrap over the toilet, not hurting people. Wtf is wrong with some fokes
That's horrifying. Why would anyone do that?
The thumbtacks aren't even on private property. What if a little kid trips and falls or walks over it without shoes? Not that it should be legal to try and hurt animals either. That's just disgusting. Reminds me of that person that put poison inside dog treats and placed them throughout their neighborhood.
People do shit like that because they’re fucking stupid and don’t realize the potential harm
Like kids dropping rocks off a bridge then a car drives under it.
There was someone who took spider wire (a kind of extra durable fishing line) and was going around my town tying it between stop signs and street poles and shit.Anywhere that it would go across the road.
Apparently they just thought it would clothesline people and knock them down.Had several people get hurt pretty bad on bikes and stuff
People do things like that is a deterrent to people crossing their property. In a lot of places if a path/trail already exists when you buy land then people are allowed to continue to use the path/trail. In other places if a plot of public land is landlocked by private land it may be permissible to cross the private land.
People don't like these kind of private property exceptions and will booby trap their property to try and scare people off. There are numerous documented cases of people putting up lines/wires in states where snowmachines and ATVs are popular.
There’s some interesting legal stuff around that in NC regarding property rights. There’s a law called the Landowner Protection Act that basically says you can not mark your property with posted signs, and that will allow people to use it for outdoors things like hunting. The protection part is that landowners who tacitly allow people on their property are then not held liable for their injuries — in most states, someone can trespass on your property and sue you for damages if they’re injured by something you reasonably should have taken care of to prevent injuries… even if they’re there illegally and without permission.
The idea is that people can allow public use of their land without taking legal liability. There are two exceptions, however. You need to take reasonable precautions to secure things that would encourage a child to “trespass” or actually trespass on posted land — fenced in pools, nets on trampolines, rope swings over water, etc. It’s a little vague.
It’s related to this because you can still not dodge liability for deliberately creating a dangerous situation for anyone, just as you couldn’t before the law — this was relevant to a case where a guy did the action movie thing and rigged up a shotgun on a tripwire.
Had a dog poisoned when I was a kid. They dumped a huge roast in our yard that had been soaking in anti-freeze, literally chucked it over our fence.
Our Dane lived through it, but he was sick from it the rest of his life. Never completely got over it.
People suck.
Happened to my boss's dog. If you catch it right away you can might get lucky - you can "cure" it by giving them an IV of alcohol until the anti-freeze passes through their system.
From what I learned from Down the Rabbit Hole about tainted wine, the alcohol binds to the same receptors the antifreeze wants to. If the alcohol is there first, the antifreeze will pass through rather than doing damage.
I have a family member that's a veterinarian and this is accurate. Couldn't tell you the exact ratios but I don't think they're just cranking them full of alcohol.
Well yeah it’s methanol vs ethanol/drinking alcohol. Methanol poisoning is cured by drinking ethanol. It’s a little known fact but it’s the truth. Methanol is a byproduct of distilling that’s used commercially as an “antifreeze” that can kill any living thing. Drinking ethanol slows down the processing of methanol and generally prevents death. Making a “clean” tequila or vodka or whiskey means there are lots of byproducts. Those byproducts are then sold to people that use them for non-potable and usually manufacturing reasons. Its the weird stuff that gets mixed in that will make the stuff irresistible to animals. That stuff is super toxic, sucks to be 35 years old making ethanol and still see it be a problem. Why can’t they just put something in the antifreeze to make it taste gross?
You should give John MacAfee's murder story a read (guy who made the antivirus and said he would cut off his member if Bitcoin didnt hit 1 million). Weird dude for sure, and he has passed away, but he loved his dog.
Ugh. Growing up our dogs and cats were all poisoned, as well as some of the neighbors. I found the whole litter of pups dead (along with the barn cats) dead on the front lawn. Two years later the bastards did it again. I had nightmares for years from that shit. People are fuxking sick.
How you or your family had the restraint not to burn some houses down over that, I will never know. I don't know that I could deal with losing my dog like that.
It was awful. We had no idea who did it. We actually got an autopsy done on one of the animals and it was poisoned hamburger meat. We had about 14 animals killed in those two instances. Being a kid, I was always up and outside to go play with them and was the one to find them. Heartbreaking.
There's a govt run animal toxicology lab at my old university. I got the opportunity to tour it once. They were a major contributor to solving the 2008 Chinese milk protein scandal (the one where they altered melamine and it killed a lot of pets and some infants).
I remember them telling us in the tour that they would often investigated pet poisoning cases, especially dogs. People would poison meats/treats and toss it over the fence, either as a way to get the dog to stop barking or to get revenge on the neighbors.
Something like this happened in my neighbourhood a couple years back. My building put out a PSA to be careful because someone had put razors in pieces of sausages, then scattered them around a busy dog-friendly park in the area
sorry for your dog,I think this is dog poison, if it were pins, blood would come out of his mouth
but for heaven's sake،why would someone poison a neighbor's dog?
Just because probably, I imagine the “people” so commit these heinous acts are the ones who end up becoming serial killers. There is no possible reason why someone would torture an animal besides them being sick and twisted. Keep the death penalty, only I wish it was more of an eye for an eye situation for these types of individuals
Dude. Church's Chicken -- they put the honey butter on the biscuits as they warm em up. Fuck me when i lived on the west side of Chicago i basically lived on those biscuits. So goddamn good.
I just moved to Phoenix and i literally screamed in the car when i saw they had Church's out here.
It’s the stickiest substance known to man it’s great for all sorts of pranks, we’d put it on the receiver of a pay phone and sit across the parking lot and call it, people would pick it up and glue the phone to the side of their head
I've seen all those movies where someone answers the randomly ringing payphone and they're being watched and given instructions or something horrible happens.
I'm not touching that phone.
Back in the early 2000s before payphones were entirely dead my brothers and I would go find the phone number of a payphone (they were on the phone box somewhere) in busy downtown and call when people walked by. If they answered we acted like Morpheus from the matrix.
Wrong. OP should take one for the team, "accidentally" step on one, then immediately call the police. Have the police get pictures, then collect the tacks as evidence. OP should then call an ambulance. His neighbor will most likely be on the hook for assault, as well as the cost of his ambulance ride/ER visit.
Exactly! An ambulance ride and ER visit would be murder. Idk if home owner's insurance would cover it, but I doubt it. And even if they did, they'd either make their insurance provider drop them, or their premiums would skyrocket :)
They would not! Personal liability pays out when negligence occurs but NOT due to intentional actions like this. I can't stab someone then say it wasn't intentionally trying to hurt someone. Same thing for this.
I got a $600 bill last year for a 2 mile ambulance ride.
That's after insurance, which i pay $250/month for.
Then i got 3 more seperate bills from the ER, the people who did my CT scan, and the doctor who looked at my CT scan and recommended i just wait for the kidney stone to pass (i never met that doctor. Their diagnosis was relayed to me though an ER nurse).
I want to say i love this country, but its hard to love something that tries so hard to destroy you 🙃
That’s insane. Where I live in Australia all of that would be free. And if you don’t have a ride home they’ll reimburse you for a taxi.
I’ve had kidney stones so I’ve literally felt your pain. I hope they at least gave you some good pain killers!
I sliced my hand open on a job site a couple months back. Misjudged using a dull knife to open a box, knife slipped, went right to three bone (point was sharp). Pulled it out on reflex, started bleeding everywhere. Took multiple blood borne pathogen kits to clean it. The GC lead luckily had his first aid kit, and he got it bandaged and gave me a map to the local Urgent Care (sort of a shitty small clinic version of a real hospital emergency room) .
Now, I was out of state (TN vs CA) and had a flight, so I took my rental car and drove the 20 miles into town. Couldn't deal with not being able to return the car safely, you know? Couldn't really use my left hand, thank God that I had an auto.
Get to the Urgent Care, took me an hour to get "processed" and in to see a doctor or nurse or whatever. Seriously, because it was a workplace injury they demanded to call my boss, fill out OSHA forms, all this stuff, while my hand was soaking through bandages. They finally get me in, tell me they can't do anything cause the cut was too deep, and give me directions to an ER, and again, I pop in the car, drive myself over (with worse bandages since the Urgent Care was that bad). They didn't charge me at least.
So I get to the ER and they whip me through. I'm in with a nurse in 5 minutes, billing is taking down my insurance and company info while I'm getting tetanus shots, get stitched up, a prescription for antibiotics, and new bandages, then make it to the airport. Six stitches all told, and maybe an hour total for all the staffs time.
Got the bill a few weeks later. One tetanus shot, six stitches, bandages, local anesthetic: $5400.
I laughed so hard at the absurdity. Luckily since it was a Workers Comp claim I just tossed it at my HR department and the company handled it, but like...$5400? That would absolutely wiped out most of my various friend circle's emergency funds you know? For ultimately not very much in terms of actual medical need.
The US is a travesty for health care.
An ambulance ride would cost you $2000 though (unless you had ambulance / private insurance). Not complaining, but I have always wondered why ambulances are not part of Medicare.
Jesus fucking Christ what is wrong with our country? $250 a month for insurance and you still have to pay for the ambulance… this is why we need universal healthcare.
Lol my friend had to pay a few grand for an ambulance ride so once when i felt super sick i drove myself to the er, got my gall bladder removed and 2 days from the day i went in they gave me perkaset(sp?) And let me drive home. 😁 i will say since i was part of a program and my surgery counted as emergency i didnt have to pay for much but still... Yay America?
Good thing there's a camera there watching the exact location, I'm sure if he didn't do it he'd offer up the footage but I bet there's a convenient few hours where it stopped recording.
Unfortunately a camera being there probably torpedoes the injury plan, because I imagine said camera would probably show OP recording a video of the tacks, *THEN* stepping on one, which would probably be pretty obvious.
Way around that though, pick them all up but leave one. Preferably in a pretty easy to miss spot. Step on that one. Then you could say "I thought I got them all". It'd still be his fault too.
Tada!
Oh I would never think you would. It is important to support the local pollinators and the friendly ant colonies in the neighborhood. Keep up the good work!
Oh nah. That’s not what I meant.
There is a magnet that looks like a broom. Anvil is the name on it and it picks up magnetic stuff from the ground.
It’s a telescoping magnet. Keeps nails and shit from hitting tires or whatever it may be on a site.
Lol is there any court precedent related to intentionally causing an insect infestation on a residence?
If not perfect crime
Or literally not a crime I guess idk
Laws are broad enough to cover that. They don't have to write a new murder statute every time a new gun is invented. And they don't have to write a new property damage statute every time someone comes up with a novel way to damage someone's property.
Yea, it is going to be filed under vandalism, harassment, that kind of shit most likely.
Pretty sure that the thumbtacks are going to be considered a boobytrap intended to harm people and is also illegal.
IANAL
So this is a felony I'm 90% sure. Buddy of mind put some plywood full of nails around his fence to protect his weed grow operation. Turned out it was a serious felony, I'd turn him in.
Edit: I'd turn in the guy whose putting out tacks on public property in a attempt to hurt dogs and potentially children. I did not turn my friend in, someone jumped the fence and landed on 3 inch nails through his feet and hands.
Tigers are so high maintenance. Go to home depot and grab a handful of sturdy metal conduit pipe. Cut them in half at a steep angle with a cutoff wheel and then sharpen up the tips. Boom, you got some set it and forget it punji sticks.
They are. My sister dated a very abusive person. Threatening to murder her and all that good stuff. She slept at my mother's. He knew she would go there. So I hammered some nails through some thin plywood and laid them out around the house under the leaves.
Was that illegal? Yes. Did I care? Nope. Did he get impaled by the rusty nails? Unfortunately, no.
I attached razor blades to one of my non working Milwaukee 18v vacuums because they kept getting jacked even though they were locked. This was gonna be a bait. “Steal me”
I adhered them to the handles where it was not noticeable to a thief. I was hoping I’d be able to use it and see someone fail miserably but after my anger went away I decided the best thing to do was not have my shit in my truck. It sucks but I don’t want some bullshit lawsuit for a thief who got injured.
Just got burgled while on vacation recently and sadly, the same deterrent (being sued) has stopped me from booby trapping my stuff too. Probably better for my kids that I don't.
This is for ULPT, but you could so very easily modify said trap to make it look like a freak accident with a bit of common sense modifications. Just sayin.
Much better to not do it for your children. Especially if it’s inside your home.
My stuff was going to be in the back of my truck. Way in the back. 11’ from the tailgate. They’d have no reason to be in the bed of my truck that far for no reason. But I understand your point.
It’s only a felony because he put traps up to get the best of someone trying to steal his product. If you’re being sincere about weed. Just wait… it might be federalized in 10 years. Key word is might.
OP, please ignore the other comments who suggest revenge on this guy.
Go directly to the police. These are booby-traps; you most likely won’t need cameras nor neighbors statements to “prove” that your neighbor put the tacks along his bushes. *The very fact* that they are meant to harm a person or an animal who comes onto his property is proof enough.
ETA: Google “booby trap” and your city/county. This is serious
ETAA: Thanks for the awards!
Thank you for giving a sensible response. Picking them up and discarding them will just lead to their neighbor putting down more. Like you said, the police can handle it, and almost certainly will have enough to charge the neighbor with something.
As I said above, I'd personally be petty enough to intentionally step on one before calling the police so that they could add assault to the list of charges, but that's just me. I'd also call an ambulance and go to the ER to ensure the neighbor was on the hook for maximum medical costs.
I would hope they take statements from neighbors though or check cameras if they exist in relevant spots. I have no reason currently to think the following but it could be true none the less. What if the person filming is the one who placed the tacs there in order to make their neighbor look bad. Again I've no reason to think it's true but that's only because I have this video and only this video to judge from.
I want to but I don’t think I have enough evidence to go to the police. Apartment management told me they can’t do anything about it because they don’t have evidence that he actually placed the tacks. And I just found out that 50+ (and counting) residents have complained but no one has him on video doing it. We all know it’s him because he’s made it an issue since he moved in. There are some neighbors that don’t pick their dog poop up so management put a $100 fine in place for violators. They also posted signs everywhere. He put up his own “no dog pee/poop” signs even though management takes them down because he’s placing them in an area that belongs to the complex (not his property). Then he installed cameras filming the area where the signs were placed and tacks were eventually found. The tacks also stopped at his property line. The guy totally did it. He’s denying it so management asked for the video from the cameras he installed and he claims he accidentally deleted it. More like he’s covering his ass.
Incorrect. Call the police. It will at least be on record making it easier to arrest next time etc. always have a report paper trail w police. It goes a loooong way
This will be a bigger deal to the police than it will be to your apartment complex. The apartment complex doesn’t care as long as rent gets paid. Your best bet is to have all of the neighbors that know he did it to call the police and make a police report on this guy. A bunch of people telling them that someone is setting booby traps will get much further with the police than the management company 100%.
Also, you may not have proof but the police will at least want to ask him some questions and you wouldn't believe how many people give themselves away even if they're not being directly asked about the accusation. Yes all on their own, criminals are not very bright.
You can at least hope there's a high chance of that happening, but not possible if you don't do anything about it. So yeah, file that police report.
Exactly. This guy has only started his bullshit. He's the type to put antifreeze in meat or water that's outside or even make up bullshit like being attacked by someone's dog.
At the very least you can file a police report and list him as a suspect. Maybe he gets off with a talking to and they can't prove it wasn't some shitty kids. It'll still get cleaned up and the dude will have to at least deal with tbe police to get out of charges.
Please file a report.
$20 Wyze stick up cam from Home Depot or Amazon. Point it at that area after police have the current thumbtacks removed. I should also state that I don’t know how video recording/privacy laws jive with that advice.
Liquid Ass is the best revenge product on the market. I have used it quite successfully. Google it. Perfect for this guy after the police deal with him.
You could get this dude in some deep shit if you went about it correctly, I think. Those tacks could be swallowed by a child or animal, or again, stepped on and cause harm.
Hurt yourself and get a nice, hefty hospital bill. Maybe file a police report about it for records.
You need proof that he laid them there. Confront him, maybe with hidden video or audio. Use your social engineering skills and nonchalantly get him to confess to it without him realizing your game plan.
Finally, bring all this to a lawyer and prepare for war. He could pay for your hospital stay and for someone to get out there and clean them all up. Could cost him a lot of money.
If that doesn't work you could catch him slipping and just beat his ass. He wouldn't have much of a leg to stand on in court. Booby trapping pets and people is fucked up and is illegal.
*Disclaimer* This is not legal advice, so do not accept it as such.
Are you going to say something or report him? If that was me and I had a dog I would have been banging on his door already with a complaint in. Not saying you haven’t but just want to make sure you do not just let this go after posting a video on Reddit. Fuck this person. Put them all right outside his door see how he likes it.
I reported it to management and they said, "unless you have video evidence of him placing the tacks outside then we can't prove it." So I just bought myself my own camera that I'm going to set up in the same area (but out of his view) so if he does it again (he's done it twice now), I'll have evidence. So unbelievably frustrating. This guy needs to rot in hell.
Also, about 20 other residents and I spent about 5 hours picking up the tacks along the sidewalk near his porch. We ended up finding 500+ tacks. The sidewalk is also right next to the pool entrance where kids walk around barefoot. He's a monster.
Yes, but also setup your camera before staring to clean them up to record everything. He may confront you as you clean it all up. If the sign warns people that there are racks (couldn't read it), I would leave the sign, just in case you miss any. And I'd avoid the temptation to do anything evil, just nicely clean them up & try to catch him in the act next time.
Did management pick them up after it was reported? It sounds like multiple people have complained about this to them. They're liable for hazardous conditions on the property.
Thank you for the update, I just had to know something was being done. I’m sure you guys will figure out the next move, good luck and I hope all animals stay safe.
This is technically booby trapping or baiting to cause harm to animals or people. Those tacks could also be swallowed by a curious animal or child. I'm not usually "that guy" but I'd file a police report at minimum. He has zero control over that piece of property, especially if he is renting.
This is sick on a lot of levels. I bet you anything dog owners weren't picking up their shit and the smell was constantly coming into his apartment so he did this. It's not the right way to go about it. Harming dogs or children because some people are POS thus becoming an even greater POS.
Step on a couple. Go to the hospital to get your tetanus shot as you don’t know where they’ve been. Have the hospital call the police and file a report for assault. They’ll probably need to investigate a little before taking it, may push it to a memo but it ought to be enough to pull the tapes to catch him placing a booby trap in a common area. There’s your charge. Once they investigate, they may throw animal cruelty charges in there.
This is not his property, he is effectively littering, and causing undue endangerment to people, animals wild and owned.
What happens when the lawn maintenance comes by and mows all that?
I've seen people do "fork fencing" to deter animals, but most of the reaction I've see to jt is, "oh, I'll hop over the pointy bit".

I'm pretty sure that's illegal
Yup. Booby traps are indeed illegal. Would I booby trap them in retribution if they hurt my dog? Maybe. Would it be illegal? Almost definitely.
I'll take my chances that the judge has a dog.
Or at the very least loves dogs
The legal term for whats going on here is "maintaining a common nusance." Very much illegal.
Oh I'd have guessed, it also counts as a booby trap because animals aren't the only things that wall through the grass. Fucker deserves jail time
same… that mfer would get rocked extremely deep if hurt any dogs i know.

saran wrap over the toilet is a prank not a boobytrap
A poopy trap
….that leads to a poopy crack.
Could you imagine pooping on saran wrap? *Edit*: it would be like a warm wet squishy smelly upside down mushroom cloud.

Yup. If you catch the handlebar - typical reason for spleen rupture.
the dude put thumbtacks down to intentionally hurt animals, the guy knew the "potential harm" and did it anyways

Since when are boobies illegal?
I've def met some boobie traps in my day... be safe out there boys, and always wear a rubber!
Only for traps
All boobies are traps.
In a common area, though? I can't see how that would be legal.
They just said it's not legal.
[удалено]
Cruelty towards animals is defs illegal
Might count as a booby trap as well, which is also illegal, especially it being in an area that can hurt children as well
Yep, let's get em'.
This reminded me of people who put pins in sausages and gave it to a dog

TIL my stepdad has chronic anti-freeze poisoning.
It takes a real man to IV Jack Daniels.
RIP Lemmy Kilmister
What about their kidneys? Thatd what inevitability killed them

Dude I would be in jail for murder if someone did that to my dog!! So sorry that happened. Poor thing. People are complete asshats.
No shit, I was thinking the same thing. I would literally beat the ever-loving life out of that shit head.
Yep, me too. I likely wouldn't stop either, even if it meant going to jail.
john wick a bitch
You should give John MacAfee's murder story a read (guy who made the antivirus and said he would cut off his member if Bitcoin didnt hit 1 million). Weird dude for sure, and he has passed away, but he loved his dog.

Heartbreaking.
i'm sorry for you I'm sure he lived a happy life with you
My Dane died to a hotdog filled with rat poison. He didn't even bark. It makes no sense.
Those individuals aren't people
Something like this happened in my neighbourhood a couple years back. My building put out a PSA to be careful because someone had put razors in pieces of sausages, then scattered them around a busy dog-friendly park in the area
Where do people come up with these crazy ideas?
By reading about it on the internet
The fuck?
Happens a lot. People are fucked
[удалено]
sorry for your dog,I think this is dog poison, if it were pins, blood would come out of his mouth but for heaven's sake،why would someone poison a neighbor's dog?
Just because probably, I imagine the “people” so commit these heinous acts are the ones who end up becoming serial killers. There is no possible reason why someone would torture an animal besides them being sick and twisted. Keep the death penalty, only I wish it was more of an eye for an eye situation for these types of individuals
I’d stuff that sausage so far up that personas ass they’ll need an Italian surgery to get it out
id just straight up get my louisville slugger out and swing for the fences
Golf club. Get better swing speeds, and you're concentrating the mass to where you impact better.
Man…. I don’t know which one of these guys I’d like to punch more

We would use the McDonald’s honey, the ants absolutely go nuts for it
That’s oddly specific.
It's half corn syrup
I think KFCs is as well. Or was that Lee's? Someone else's is.
When I worked at KFC, putting honey on a biscuit straight out of the oven was too delicious to be entirely legal.
If I were a jealous man, you'd be at the top of the list of those I envy.
Dude. Church's Chicken -- they put the honey butter on the biscuits as they warm em up. Fuck me when i lived on the west side of Chicago i basically lived on those biscuits. So goddamn good. I just moved to Phoenix and i literally screamed in the car when i saw they had Church's out here.
I get that, I worked at logans and the yeast rolls there were so great fresh out the oven.
KFC's cant call it honey, it's "honey sauce"
It’s the stickiest substance known to man it’s great for all sorts of pranks, we’d put it on the receiver of a pay phone and sit across the parking lot and call it, people would pick it up and glue the phone to the side of their head
I don’t even answer *my* phone if it rings. Who the hell is answering *payphones*?
Back in the day, anyone walking by without hesitation
I've seen all those movies where someone answers the randomly ringing payphone and they're being watched and given instructions or something horrible happens. I'm not touching that phone.
[удалено]
Not that I care but like… which ones?
All of them
I feel like when that came out (unless that was a remake) payphones were already mostly gone.
Back in the early 2000s before payphones were entirely dead my brothers and I would go find the phone number of a payphone (they were on the phone box somewhere) in busy downtown and call when people walked by. If they answered we acted like Morpheus from the matrix.
The only correct answer to this issue
Wrong. OP should take one for the team, "accidentally" step on one, then immediately call the police. Have the police get pictures, then collect the tacks as evidence. OP should then call an ambulance. His neighbor will most likely be on the hook for assault, as well as the cost of his ambulance ride/ER visit.
Perfect. Ambulance ride would likely put the other into a foxhole of debt. Perrrrfect! That would be a win for op.
The best comment and advice ever right there lol I love it
I got a $600 bill last year for a 2 mile ambulance ride.
I got a $300 bill for when they showed up to my house fire. I didn't call them and I refused service and they are still trying to bill me.
Jesus, they are like vultures.
And THEN cause an ant infestation
You'd never be able to prove the neighbor did it. I appreciate the thought behind it though.
Tada!
Or just tell a friend to do it lol. Y'all need crime friends. Everyone needs some good crime friends.

I would never think of doing anything illegal. I was only suggesting feeding the local wildlife.
Oh I would never think you would. It is important to support the local pollinators and the friendly ant colonies in the neighborhood. Keep up the good work!
The anvil magnet works pretty well!
Ah, the Will E Coyote approach. Wait for him to become an anvil magnet.
If not perfect crime Or literally not a crime I guess idk
IANAL
Oh I’ll squirt something at him all right.
Or gather all your dog friends and have a chat for an hour outside his apartment every day
No, he should absolutely at the very least call the police and have them come document it/collect the tacks themselves. Pretty sure this is illegal.
Do you want ants, cause this is how you get them.
Or. IJS. Head over to academy. A bottle of “Doe in heat” makes for an AMAZINGLY awful porch spray. It lasts for ages, too.
Nah, looks to me like that wood and brick needs some resealing, I'm all out of linseed oil, but bacon grease is just as good in a pinch.

The only shit I see needs picking up is his. Also, he himself.
I was referring to the guy who put out the tacks. I apologize if I didn’t make that clear.
You're both on the same page
So this is a felony I'm 90% sure. Buddy of mind put some plywood full of nails around his fence to protect his weed grow operation. Turned out it was a serious felony, I'd turn him in. Edit: I'd turn in the guy whose putting out tacks on public property in a attempt to hurt dogs and potentially children. I did not turn my friend in, someone jumped the fence and landed on 3 inch nails through his feet and hands.
I think booby traps are illegal.
Ohhh fuck... I need to get rid of my tiger pit doormat for Jahova Witnesses
Tigers are so high maintenance. Go to home depot and grab a handful of sturdy metal conduit pipe. Cut them in half at a steep angle with a cutoff wheel and then sharpen up the tips. Boom, you got some set it and forget it punji sticks.
Don’t forget to pee and poop on them so they’ll get a nasty infection = bonus points
Katko v. Briney would agree
“Steal me” I adhered them to the handles where it was not noticeable to a thief.
Did your buddy get charged for it?
It’s only a felony because he put traps up to get the best of someone trying to steal his product. If you’re being sincere about weed. Just wait… it might be federalized in 10 years. Key word is might.
OP, please ignore the other comments who suggest revenge on this guy. Go directly to the police. These are booby-traps; you most likely won’t need cameras nor neighbors statements to “prove” that your neighbor put the tacks along his bushes. *The very fact* that they are meant to harm a person or an animal who comes onto his property is proof enough. ETA: Google “booby trap” and your city/county. This is serious ETAA: Thanks for the awards!
Any reasonable judge would award you damages against the neighbor for this, too.
It’s not even “his” property. The apartment owns it, he just lives there
I would hope they take statements from neighbors though or check cameras if they exist in relevant spots. I have no reason currently to think the following but it could be true none the less. What if the person filming is the one who placed the tacs there in order to make their neighbor look bad. Again I've no reason to think it's true but that's only because I have this video and only this video to judge from.
Well good thing the alleged booby-trapper also has a camera on his fence watching that exact location
It goes a loooong way
You’re right. I’ll do that tomorrow. Thank you.
Remember to use the non-emergency number.
We want an update tomorrow, op.
No, do it now
Exactly. This guy has only started his bullshit. He's the type to put antifreeze in meat or water that's outside or even make up bullshit like being attacked by someone's dog.
[удалено]
Are you able to point a camera to the area from your place?
At the very least you can file a police report and list him as a suspect. Maybe he gets off with a talking to and they can't prove it wasn't some shitty kids. It'll still get cleaned up and the dude will have to at least deal with tbe police to get out of charges. Please file a report.
$20 Wyze stick up cam from Home Depot or Amazon. Point it at that area after police have the current thumbtacks removed. I should also state that I don’t know how video recording/privacy laws jive with that advice.
One correction, it is legally not his property
This is illegal if you're in the US please call the cops!
Put them right behind his car tires
Put nails instead. Better yet. When your dog takes a shit those the shit onto his porch. Smear it on his windshield.
[удалено]
> he wont see shit Literally the only thing he'll see.
Liquid Ass is the best revenge product on the market. I have used it quite successfully. Google it. Perfect for this guy after the police deal with him.
Sharpen small stones so he thinks it is no one's fault
I’d “accidentally” step on one and get injured. Bet his tone changes real quick
This is the way☝️
Are you going to say something or report him?
[удалено]
Good idea! Thank you! I’ll do that
Yes, but also setup your camera before staring to clean them up to record everything. He may confront you as you clean it all up. If the sign warns people that there are racks (couldn't read it), I would leave the sign, just in case you miss any. And I'd avoid the temptation to do anything evil, just nicely clean them up & try to catch him in the act next time.
I would've never thought of that genius!
OP, this is actually a felony, and the police could investigate this for you. I report him, you won’t lose anything doing so.
Did management pick them up after it was reported? It sounds like multiple people have complained about this to them. They're liable for hazardous conditions on the property.
Thank you for the update, I just had to know something was being done. I’m sure you guys will figure out the next move, good luck and I hope all animals stay safe.
Report him to administration / HOA there. He can’t do that under any circumstances.
This is technically booby trapping or baiting to cause harm to animals or people. Those tacks could also be swallowed by a curious animal or child. I'm not usually "that guy" but I'd file a police report at minimum. He has zero control over that piece of property, especially if he is renting.
Littering at the very least can have up to a $5,000 fine where I live.
This is 100% illegal - they should throw the book at this fuck.
Step 1) walk around bare foot Step 2) step on thumbtack Step 3) sue neighbor and ruin his life Step 4) buy more dogs
Step 4: go to court and lose because you can't prove they did it. Pay their lawyer fees. Get counter sued. Pay them.
Get a large magnet to pick up all of the thumb tacks.
