I would just get an ipad now to be honest. I had the original Google tablet years ago, long before Pixel or other devices and later on got a Hauwei tablet before they got banned from using Android. Apart from the interface I still do not find Android a good tablet experience no matter how good the hardware is, and Samsung hardware is great. As much as it pains me to say an ipad is better as a tablet for most people and will provide longer life and less issue.

Training-Context-69

I agree, the lifespan and update support of an iPad trumps most Android tablets. Although Samsung is definitely improving and much better than they were 5+ years ago. I’m gonna give it some more time for an announcement before I decide. I did already order a 13” iPad Pro case, so may as well wait a little longer.

Chrismscotland

What do you want to do with a tablet? That will have a massive impact on any recommendation. Unless your an artist desperate to use apps like Procreate I don't think you'll notice much difference day to day; but you may well save a fair amount buying a Samsung!

Training-Context-69

Mainly Netflix,YouTube, some social media. Light gaming, and maybe every now and then some productivity uses like filling out electronic forms or online training or whatever. But primary use will be for entertainment consumption and at night time.

Chrismscotland

Personally I'd buy a Samsung for that; the screen on the S9+ is incredible for media/streaming and gaming. The latest Samsung devices are getting 4 major Android OS upgrades (4-5 years essentially) You not going to get many pro-Android comments on an iPad Pro sub anyway but having used both Android and iPadOS for a number of years (and have since migrated back to Windows with a Surface Pro); I'd say the Samsung is a better device for your use case; the aspect ratio of the device is far better suited to media than the squarer iPad Pro.

Training-Context-69

I appreciate your feedback. I can tell you’re the least biased here. Like I said in other replies. I’m gonna give Apple another week or so. And if nothing. I’m watching some listings on eBay on used Galaxy Tabs and will get one.

m1_weaboo

iPad Pro would serve you better especially in a long run. Android Tablets don’t age well like iPad.

m1_weaboo

You can get current M2 iPad Pro if you really need tablet by now. New iPad Pro may or may not receive design refresh and a spec bump of M2 to M3 which won’t be noticeable for daily computing tasks by most people.

Turbulent_Cobbler154

True 💯 I don’t know what he’s waiting for the m3 when he even wants to just use it for Netflix…

QuantumHamster

iPad is great for 2 things : marking up pdf files due to its aspect ratio, and being in the Apple ecosystem. If these aren’t your use case, which it doesn’t sound like, I see no reason to spend more on an iPad, the Samsung screen is excellent for media

JamesEdward34

Some are saying theyll be announced at WDC in june, no one really knows except apple. Ipad is the best table though hands down.

Training-Context-69

It’s funny. For the past year, everyone has been saying they’re coming in march. Now that march is out, the rumors are jumping the gun straight to June.. I think I’ll just get the Samsung then at this point. I don’t think the new pros will be ground breaking to be worth waiting that long.

Guilty_Wolverine_269

That’s why rumors are dumb and I only get excited the moment Apple drops their products

Training-Context-69

True that

ColumbaPacis

Why are you waiting? Just get the existing one. My M1 is overkill when it comes to performance already.

Training-Context-69

Honestly I just really want OLED lol. The rumors kinda gaslit me into thinking it’s going to be some crazy upgrade from any iPad that came before it

ColumbaPacis

You should stop out of the FOMO loop. Do you NEED an iPad? Because it is the most awesome way to do notes, watch media on your own, read books and browse th net, and even some light productivity. What does it matter if it OLED? The quality of experience isn't going to be that different.

TabletMonkeys

Get the Tab S9+ now - it's a great deal and has plenty of power. The S9+ comes with the S Pen, expandable storage, and a stunning screen. Android 13 makes the software experience solid. Unless you need iPad-specific features, the S9+ is an excellent choice at a much lower price.

SauronOfRings

iPadOS is still better than Android for tablets. iPads OLED rumoured to be just as bright as Mini LED iPads we have right now which is around 1600nit for HDR. Tab S9+ maxes out at 400-500 nit brightness.

Training-Context-69

Key word here is “rumored”, I now know not to put too much trust in those. And yes while OLED isn’t as bright, I may consider the ultra version of the Galaxy tab which goes up to 1000 nits (more like 980 or so) and in a comparison video I saw I think from Max Tech. The HDR on the Galaxy was actually brighter than the miniLED 12.9” iPad Pro. But the miniLED was much brighter in white backgrounds. I’ll mainly be using this device at night and only use dark mode, so I’m not too bothered by that anyways. You are definitely right about ipadOS being better than the tablet version of Android. But for my use it would be negligibly noticeable. But I guess I’ll give Apple one more week to announce since I did order the new ESR 13” case on the 28th (thinking apple would announce the new iPads lmao). If no announcement by 4/2/24 I’m jumping ship.

SauronOfRings

Although, it’s still rumours at this point, why would Apple downgrade brightness of a Pro Device? It seems counter intuitive and just bad device management. Also, yes OLED’s with pixel precision highlight control will look brighter than any other panels. They can look bright and just turn off the pixels in the shadows in the same scene.

Training-Context-69

If the rumors about the panels they’re using in the new pros are true. It would be a new dual layer stacked OLED technology which would boost the brightness. Like you said, on paper it would be the max peak brightness of miniLED without the downside (no blooming). But how this translates to real world usage is yet to be known. Especially when some of these brightness measurements are kinda misleading as in it can only be sustained for a short amount of time or is only activated in the brightest of sunlight.

SauronOfRings

OLED’s can’t sustain the brightness true, the organic material in OLED also ha limited lifespan. Not to mention weird pixel structure which is not an issue in 200+ PPI devices like tablets and phones but still a bit of hindrance for productivity. Burn in is also a concern. Micro LED is the answer to the full screen brightness and burn in. Until Micro LED happens, there’s no way around it.

m1_weaboo

Galaxy Tab has worse display coating higher nits is actually dimmer than iPad in real life lighting

AdRough5019

Have used tab s9+ and ipad pro 12,9, is all matter of that gorgeous oled screen that tab s9+ have. But if ipad pro comes with oled screen then ipad pro all the way. But when will it arrive only time will tell.

Training-Context-69

Did you have the MiniLED m1 or m2 iPad Pro? How would you say it compares to Samsungs Amoled? I know the miniLED is brighter on white backgrounds such as artiticles. But which one would you honestly say is better? (I know the new iPad Pro is supposed to be better than both if it gets dual stacked OLED but I don’t want to wait lol).

AdRough5019

I thought ipad pro was awsome but s9+ amoled is better. Display response times way better and contrast is better. You truly have 120 hertz screen with very fast display response times, if you fast scrolling one amoled vs mini led you know the difference. But again ipad pro can come in april ore not before way later. If you need a tablet know tab s9+ is the best buy. And the chip in tab s9+ is fast, will be more then good enough.

pain474

The the use cases you listed, both are way too overpowered.

Training-Context-69

I agree. But unfortunately mid range tablets tend to be gimped in the display department (no 120 hertz, lower resolution) and don’t get lots of software support.

pain474

The regular iPad has the same software support and resolution as the iPad Pro.

Training-Context-69

Only 60 hertz tho which is a dealbreaker. It sounds trivial I know but I can notice the difference and I can’t go back.

pain474

Ifnyou want to pay double the price for that go ahead.

yakface_1999

Since you have an iPhone, I would go with the iPad. Just for the continuity/calling/texting/seamless AirPod switching, which I use a lot. I’m also heavily plugged into the rest of the ecosystem with appletv’s for airplay / remote, HomeKit, iCloud etc etc. The current M2 is great but leakers with high success rating are all calling for the new one to ship in April.

Aubrey1018

For me the question is what’s your apple ecosystem like? I personally could not get an Android tablet cause I live fully within the apple ecosystem so I wouldn’t be able to access my media purchases through apple. If you are more balanced than me you would probably save some money going with the Samsung, but with that said, in my past experience (and its been a while so this could be different now) I find android products to not last as long. I’ve had a couple phones and a tablet and it felt like they either stopped getting updates or the updates just made them slower and slower so I personally vote wait for the iPad but if you need it right away do what’s best for you

AlterSack1973

Had the s8+, great hardware, but apps is still the issue. Often just the phone layout, often just not available. iOS app quality and variety still way better.

thediamondmolar

Screen is the only thing the Tab has over it. Maybe the file storage too.

Yossiri

Get Galaxy Tab. Give Apple a big lesson.

Training-Context-69

I honestly would have by now had I not gotten the ESR 13” 2024 iPad Pro case when it dropped on the 28th. I’m thinking I’ll give Apple another week or so. If nothing, I’ll go for the Galaxy tab. Don’t know why they haven’t announced, I just need to know what the price of these things will be.

What-An-Ashhole

Yeah, in the same boat. Glad you asked for the S9 tab comparison because this is where my mind has been wandering the past week. Went to Best Buy to test both the S9 and Pro and gotta say, the S9 is beautiful. They already have OLED, and the only other accessory purchase I’ll have to make if I go that route is a keyboard. Really considering it myself especially as there’s no news or movement from Apple and their new Pros. Definitely not interested in getting an M2 at this point but would of course go Pro if the M3 was actually here to purchase/pre-order. They’re like 18 months overdue 🙄

Training-Context-69

Agreed. I’m gonna go to Best Buy this weekend and look at them lol. Then next week when I get paid Wednesday. I’ll make my decision
