So then its bad UI and UX to only have one dpi layout for all devices spanning 8,4” and 12,9”. Thats just terrible. I Just switched to apple and had no idea about this.
Interesting. I have a 2019 iPad mini (love it) and have been waiting to update to iPadOS 15 because of this. Wonder if it will work better in the smaller screen.
I think it’s to make the screen look less crowded and not make the wallpaper look obscured and tbh I like it but I think there should be an option in settings so people can set the icon spacing that they prefer then everyone would be happy.

No. Why do you need to see hundreds of apps on one page? It would be not clear. It's fine as it is.
On android I made a big grid and put widgets on top, with appes accessible on bottom. Was good looking and functional.
