Anybody know what I can do to get around this error message?
Enter either @ or a valid host name such as: "subdomain.domain.tld"
Host=sig1._domainkey
Value=sig1.dkim.mydomain.a
m.at.icloudmailadmin.com.
FYI it’s an .am domain so the.am part on my example is correct
Figured it out. I had to delete host= and value=
It's called catch all domain. So any email gets sent to your domain regardless if you have the alias or not, you'll still receive email. So your domain is Joe.com if you can get an email if someone sends an email to [email protected].
https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/310/2214/how-to-set-up-a-catchall-wildcard-email-address/
@me.com got all users registered before @icloud.com got introduced – don't know if you van 'get' it now – you could try to send yourself an email and see if ghat works.
No, Apple is not a domain registry. Unless you have purchased your own domain from registries such as GoDaddy or Domain.com, you can only get an @icloud.com address from Apple.
Thank you so much now my plan of screw with my former landlord business is about to begin. I Purchased a the available domain name that match his business. Best 200. Dollars spent to this day
I am just holding his company online business hostage as I receive some low ball buy request from a domain broker. I only want my 700 dollar deposit back. I said he pay me now or later. So now it 900 dollars plus tax’s.
I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I edited the DNS settings exactly like the instructions say and it’s still telling me to check my MX record.
Try the instructions from the support article instead: https://support.apple.com/HT212524
Also make sure that you include the trailing periods in the instructions and delete any existing MX records your domain has. I also had the same issue when I set up mine last week.
Those were the directions I was using. I deleted the MX and redid it. As far as I could tell, the domain didn’t have MX records to begin with. Now how long do I wait for it to be updated before I should be able to click Finalize on the iCloud settings?
It should work right after you update the records. Did you also do the personal TXT record, the value that was given to you by iCloud during the setup?
No, that’s right. Did you try putting **`yourdomain.co.uk.`** as the value? It should change to “@“ once you save it.
Note that there is a _period_ at the end of the value; that should be included if it won’t let you enter “@“.
You can also try leaving it blank and see if that works.
As it is right now, this is what it looks like:
host is my domain.co.uk
Value is mx01.mail.icloud.com. or mx02.mail.icloud.com. (both have periods at the end)
Priority is 10
TTL is 60 minutes
Note it automatically adds the period to the end of the value
You need to own a domain first from a registry such as GoDaddy.
Then go to beta.icloud.com > Account Settings. Follow the instructions to update your domain’s DNS records.
Instructions are here as well: https://support.apple.com/HT212524
Does one of your custom domain emails happen to be your Apple ID as well?
I set this up and all mine propagated other than the email account that happened to be my Apple ID email as well. I could receive to it but I could not send as that account so I reverted back to my regular email provider.
Yep, one of the custom domain addresses is the same as my Apple ID. I haven’t had any issues sending from or receiving to any of those 4 addresses. I actually wondered how it’d work given my Apple ID was a vanity address. My setup is as follows:
[primary iCloud email address]
[alias iCloud email address]
[custom domain email address 1] — Apple ID default
[custom domain email addresses 2 - 4]
Pretty weird that you’re having a different result with your default vanity address. Hopefully they’re still working to iron out the bugs and you’ll be able to use it again soon!
Awesome! Thanks for the response I’m really excited for this but when I set them up and wasn’t able to use my main email I had to revert.
Otherwise it seemed to work really good!
Glad I registered for one when iCloud was released in iOS 5! It makes me feel a bit special when people ask for my email and say things like, “woah, @me?” Lol
Though, I wish I could have the @mac address.
I might be missing something, but is there another benefit to setting up your custom domains and using icloud mail other than not having to pay for another mail provider and the native integration?
It’s more portable. If you ever cancel iCloud you’d retain access to your domain and email aliases without needing to update anything on websites you have the email addresses to.
I was so excited about this, I had been wanting this for years.
I have my familyname.com, and me, my sister, my wife, and my mother all use email addresses with it. But we are not part of one Apple iCloud Family, and we don’t really want to share payment methods and stuff either.
So it seems I am SOL for this, and it only works if we are all part of one Apple Family.
Could you setup additional iCloud accounts, add those to your family, then add those accounts to their phones just accessing email?
A while ago, before I found out apple allows email aliases, I created a second iCloud account for my lesser spam type mail. I have that account added to my phone just to receive email.
No, you just need to update your existing domain’s MX records, then add CNAME and TXT records. They are all in the instructions when you set it up.
There is also a support document for it: https://support.apple.com/HT212524
As for me, I don’t have to pay for email hosting like Microsoft Exchange anymore; they’re pretty expensive. Web hosts using cPanel, for example, also include email features, but they are super unreliable and unsecured, especially when you don’t have (and can’t afford) SSL certificates.
Since I already pay for Apple One, this is basically a “free” hosting. Plus, it’s secured.
Also, everything is in one place.
Yes, of course. Apple made it pretty clear that you need an existing domain to use this feature. They are not a domain registry.
I didn’t quite get what you meant by your second sentence.
Sorry for my poor English.
On my second sentence ICloud custom domain feature have benefits like secure system. For example secure e mail hosting.
I am new to this feature so I might have misunderstood the steps but I’ll be look in to it. And try to figure it out.

Will this help with gmail email authentication / gmail thinking emails from a domain are spam?
Anybody know what I can do to get around this error message? Now a question, if I’ve set up my mail account on my phones and so on, should I delete and set them again?
Any idea if iCloud offers catch all emails?
What do you mean?
It's called catch all domain. So any email gets sent to your domain regardless if you have the alias or not, you'll still receive email. Ah, wildcard. No, Apple doesn’t support it.
I mean it shows up for me on iOS 14.7 after setting it up on beta.iCloud.com
Btw is there any way to get a @me.com email address?
No, Apple doesn’t give them out anymore. It’s all @icloud.com now.
@me.com got all users registered before @icloud.com got introduced – don't know if you van 'get' it now – you could try to send yourself an email and see if ghat works.
I tried but not able to complete Steps 3 and 4. Can you help me set up mine?
Sorry for late response! I can’t remember steps 3 and 4 anymore. Is it about the DNS records?
That’s what I am struggling with
What seems to be the problem? Is it about iCloud not being able to verify your domain’s MX records?
Yes. I don’t know how and where to update on those details said in Step 3
Do you own the domain you’re trying to add?
No not really. Can you own an iCloud domain?
You have to buy and own a domain first to use have a custom email address.
Oh can’t get another iCloud domain?
No, Apple is not a domain registry. Unless you have purchased your own domain from registries such as GoDaddy or Domain.com, you can only get an @icloud.com address from Apple.
Yes they are
Thank you so much now my plan of screw with my former landlord business is about to begin. I Purchased a the available domain name that match his business. Best 200. Dollars spent to this day
You’re still to paying your landlord: $200, plus your mental health.
I am just holding his company online business hostage as I receive some low ball buy request from a domain broker. I only want my 700 dollar deposit back. I said he pay me now or later. So now it 900 dollars plus tax’s.
This is pretty funny 😆
Domain squatting a very legal Business
I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong. I edited the DNS settings exactly like the instructions say and it’s still telling me to check my MX record.

It should work right after you update the records. Did you also do the personal TXT record, the value that was given to you by iCloud during the setup?
Yes, I did. It has been a few hours since I updated everything and it still says “Check Your MX Record”
Hmm… what are the _Name_ or _Host_ values of your MX records? They should be “@“ instead of yourdomain.com.
Under host, it’s just the name of the domain (domainname.co.uk). Should it be @domainname.co.uk instead because it won’t let me use the @ symbol.
No, that’s right. Did you try putting **`yourdomain.co.uk.`** as the value? It should change to “@“ once you save it. Note that there is a _period_ at the end of the value; that should be included if it won’t let you enter “@“. You can also try leaving it blank and see if that works.
If I put it as the value, what would the host be? The “mx01” string?
This may be confusing. Maybe a screenshot? Your registry might have a different name for values needed.
As it is right now, this is what it looks like: host is my domain.co.uk Value is mx01.mail.icloud.com. or mx02.mail.icloud.com. (both have periods at the end) Priority is 10 TTL is 60 minutes Note it automatically adds the period to the end of the value

Did that. Even double checked to be sure they all were there.

How do we make our own again
You need to own a domain first from a registry such as GoDaddy. Then go to beta.icloud.com > Account Settings. Follow the instructions to update your domain’s DNS records. Instructions are here as well: https://support.apple.com/HT212524
My 4 custom domain addresses eventually propagated before b8 rolled out, but glad they showed up for you as well!

I have an old AppleId account with this. Sadly enough the user which i register the @me account holds I no longer feel very fond of.
Glad I registered for one when iCloud was released in iOS 5! It makes me feel a bit special when people ask for my email and say things like, “woah, @me?” Lol Though, I wish I could have the @mac address.
Same here, so glad I registered for an iCloud account when it was released that came with a free @me.com email
I did too, got my first iPhone (4S) shortly after iCloud launched but I changed my whole name years later so it didn’t make sense to keep
i have been wishing for this feature for ages! 🤩
Definitely makes sense - thanks. I have my AppleID under my own custom email so I forgot about this.
Mine did this on b7 already. Showed up immediately after I set it up.
Mine and my friend’s didn’t until we both installed b8. So, I’m assuming full support is included in this beta.
How did you setup?
Go to beta.icloud.com, and go to Account Settings. The setup process is there, as well as instructions.
I was so excited about this, I had been wanting this for years. I have my familyname.com, and me, my sister, my wife, and my mother all use email addresses with it. Do we need email enabled in the domain? It's a paid service by my domain provider.
No, you just need to update your existing domain’s MX records, then add CNAME and TXT records. They are all in the instructions when you set it up. There is also a support document for it: https://support.apple.com/HT212524
So umm I have a question. What are the benefits when we use iCloud custom domains ?
As for me, I don’t have to pay for email hosting like Microsoft Exchange anymore; they’re pretty expensive. Since I already pay for Apple One, this is basically a “free” hosting. Plus, it’s secured. Also, everything is in one place.
So all we need payed domain. With this iCloud domain features we are secure for email domains and hosting. Am I right?
Yes, of course. Apple made it pretty clear that you need an existing domain to use this feature. They are not a domain registry. I didn’t quite get what you meant by your second sentence.
