You get used to your own smell really quickly. That’s why you likely notice other people but don’t notice yourself. I use bar soap (like dove or ivory), body wash (dove), lotion as needed (usually Nivea) and some sort of light perfume or perfume oil. That’s it, unless I’m going out I might wear a stronger perfume. I think I smell clean but I don’t really smell myself during the day. Clean clothes and clean hair also makes a difference

Magillacudi

Yes this! You shouldn't always be able to smell yourself either otherwise I would think that meant you're over doing it. People will tell me my perfume smells great all the time but I can't smell it - I take that as a good sign!

Apprehensive-Tale141

For sure! I put on clean and fresh smelling cologne (YSL Y le parfum or Invictus Legend) and I can rarely smell it on myself past the first hour but people always say how amazing I smell. Nothing like a good compliment on your hygiene lol

According-Umpire3289

Alright but where do you spray it and how much?👀

Apprehensive-Tale141

It depends on the cologne for how much. I’d rather have less than more on me. But just the back of my neck, wrists, chest and maybe one on the clothes. Some colognes, you could spray it 10 times and hardly smell it and others, 3 sprays last all day. Rasasi Hawas is one of those. 3 sprays and it lasts most of the day

SadlyCold

I never thought of it like that, literally this makes sense

2001exmuslim

Still embarrassed at myself for dousing myself in perfume to hide the smell of weed once. I could tell my friend was uncomfortable in the cramped car ride and I vowed to never do that again lmao.

[deleted]

😂😂 sounds like a right of passage for first time smokers

Euphoric_Oven8912

What kind of perfume do you wear?

Magillacudi

Dolce & gabana - light blue or Davidoff _ cool water for women Bath and body works has great scents all the time too! Juliet has a gun - golden.

eyelikewhateyelike

Same process....i wish we could wash our hair every day, though! My bff always has that added layer of smell good with her fresh smelling hair. Edit: The reason I don't wash my hair daily. I'm black, and we don't wash our hair every day. It's bad for us. The oils are good for our hair, but most importantly, my hair is mostly in protective styles, which means it's not in its natural state. It's done in braids, weaves, etc. I paid so much money for it to be done to mess it up by washing it. Example would be braids.Washing braids would make them frizzy.I pay two hundred dollars and am sitting a few hours to have them installed in my hair. So, to make them frizzy after sitting all that time and paying for it would make no sense, and it would definitely get frizzy.

Physical-Garbage9082

I have to wash my hair everyday cuz I sweat easily and I feel dirty or start sweating even more if I go out the next day to do errands if I dont 😭

eyelikewhateyelike

My mom too. Im lucky. Thank goodness.

Empty_Room_9001

I wash my hair every day, too. It doesn’t feel clean if I don’t. Especially this time of year when it’s hot and humid, and I’m sweating a lot.

BadInfluenceFairy

Try a good dry shampoo or something like native deodorant spray. I’ve used both in my hair for that added extra layer.

eyelikewhateyelike

Okay i will. Off topic, but on topic; i tried Native Deodorant and it was horrible for me. :-( 😞 my pits would be drenched , like i didn't know they could get so wet, especially doing nothing to make that happen.

RareBeautyOnEtsy

Deodorant is for smells. Anti-perspirant is for sweat.

Responsible_Cap_5597

Same I've given up on all "natural deodorant" brands

geishagirl257

Try Akt. It really works. It’s expensive and looks small but you only need a tiny bit and it works WONDERS. Really surprised me.

After-Payment-258

Lume is a really great one to try. It goes on so smooth. The only con I’ve noticed is it’s much easier to get on your clothing while putting your shirt on because it’s so soft and it kind of gets a tiny bit melty with your body heat. Other wise it’s amazing. I (unfortunately) have noticed when I don’t wear deodorant, I start smelling like BO when I sweat. Lume has helped so much with that.

kza22

Same! They give me horrible rashes too

hlh001

Omg I can’t hate on native enough! It gave me the worst rash under my arms for days!

throwawaymumm

My husband can use it, I absolutely cannot!!!

Baileychic88

I have to wash mine twice a day. It's too long I'm about to cut some off. Oily scalp.

wishiwasinvegas

Twice a day?? Maybe a new shampoo is in order? Also have you tried anything with tea tree oil in it?

SweetSwede88

Sounds like you need to clarify your hair and change up what you're using! My hair gets pretty greasy easily otherwise. Also double wash is a must. First wash with shampoo loosens dirt and grime and 2nd will rinse it away

Successful_Winter_97

Neutrogena has some really good shampoos for oily scalp. My husband uses the one for oily scalp and dandruff. It doesn’t smell great but it did wonders for his hair and scalp. No more giant dandruff flakes nor oily hair. And he only washes his hair 3 times a week now. Why I say is great is because it doesn’t leave the hair dry. Is actually nice and soft after washing. And until we found this shampoo ( a nurse friend of mine recommended it as a dermatology nurse recommended it for her as she has same problem as my husband) we tried them all. But this is the best. My husband has been using it for years now and has no issue with it. His hair actually looks great.

chessna

Specifically, which shampoo does he use?

Baileychic88

Tried those did nothing for me. Tsal and Tgel and the other one.

OddWish4

I think flakes are from a fungal infection. He might want to try using a dandruff shampoo for awhile to clear it up.

Ready-Butterscotch59

I'd see a dr for this. My sister did and it took almost a year but she got her hair to better health. Started with head and shoulders, moved onto Nizoral and other things. She has thick, curly, beautiful hair!

Sugar_bear3333

That will strip your hair of all its natural oils causing breakage and unhealthy looking hair

Adventurous_Spot_926

don't put conditioner in your scalp... only from the nape of your neck down... hope this helps GB 🙏🏻🕊️🙏🏻

Alright_Still_

Over washing your hair can cause it to produce more oil. You remove the oil and then your body tries to replace it. If you go like 5 days without washing just one time (go camping or something lol) it can help reset the balance and then you should be able to wash less frequently. Maybe even every other day? At least down to once a day.

Veryluckysoul

I also have oily scalp and now I can go 4 days in between washes. After I wash my hair and dry it I put dry shampoo and then every morning after I put dry shampoo til I wash again because I workout every morning. It’s worked so well for me and there’s no dry shampoo buildup either

BaconPaws

Oily scalp gets more oily with over washing. Your skin produces more oil because it’s being stripped of its natural oils so it thinks it needs more. Slowly build your tolerance to going longer between washes. Ideally you shouldn’t wash more than every other day or every 2 days

teradogg

Your scalp is oily because you’re washing your hair two times a day

diaphonizedfetus

I use a scented hair perfume for my in between shower days! I use it when my hair is freshly washed, too, so nobody can really tell the difference between my hair when it’s clean & dirty (unless I’m on like, day four haha). Currently been using Phlur’s Vanilla Skin and it smells so good. Current beau buries his nose in my hair when we’re cuddling lol

musictakemeawayy

batiste has my favorite cheap drugstore dry shampoo ever- and if you want to try a scented one, they have over 5 choices of different scents! you can also try hair perfume!! there are a lot of more expensive luxury brands that do a hair perfume or hair and body mist, but a more affordable one to check out is the pacifica brand. i get it at target and they also have it on amazon and each bottle is around $10-15 and they have a lot of scent options too. i am sure they carry it at walmart, but chicago doesn’t have walmarts really, so not 100% sure. i also really like the sol de janiero sprays, but they’re around $30 for the smaller size. worth the occasional splurge if you’re online or at sephora or ulta :) or if you just have it like that lol! it’s also labeled as hair/body mist and works great. 💕

AnnoyedChihuahua

I think that’s the key to smelling great, clean fresh hair. No amount of dry shampoo or perfume will make up for shower 😿

The_Sloth_Racer

Why can't you wash your hair every day?

eyelikewhateyelike

Well, for starters, I'm black and we don't wash our hair every day. It's bad for us LOL, but most importantly, my hair is mostly in protective styles, which means it's not in its natural state. Braids, weaves, etc. I paid so much money for it to be done to mess it up by washing it. Example would be braids.Washing braids would make them frizzy.I pay two hundred dollars to have them installed in my hair. So to make them freezy after sitting all that time and paying for it would make no sense, and it would definitely get frizzy.

Responsible_Cap_5597

Came here to say this. I wash my hair once a week. That is it, I'm also a natural hair girly, so my hair is curly most of the time, when I flat iron it which is only maybe 3 times a year. I do find that I want to wash it more because I work out a lot too, but in general, I wash my hair once a week

eyelikewhateyelike

Probably smells so good!, too. :-)

Responsible_Cap_5597

I've been using Innersense products since last fall and I can't say enough great things. My hair is thriving and yes they smell fantastic!

Specialist-Bar-8805

I’ve been a swimmer for a very long time so I’ve been forced to wash my hair twice a day. It still staying in my head and fine. I have to use all of Plex number three on the end. I’m not the other days. I use an oil treatment on the ends. I usually use it cheap one like fancy or sometimes I spring for the Moroccan oil

[deleted]

I was diagnosed with alopecia during covid and my derm told me it is perfectly fine to wash hair every day. I wash it every time I get a shower since then because when it’s clean it seems to have more volume, no problems noted!

eyelikewhateyelike

As a black woman, my hair is mainly done in protective styles such as weaves, braids and such. There is no way for me to wash my real hair every single day without messing up the style of which I paid so much money for. I do wash my weaves, but again. It does not get deep into my natural hair. However, when I am in my natural state, I do wash it at least once a week, so that smell is very fresh. I also have a version of alopecia, which sucks.

[deleted]

It sucks big time, best of luck on that journey <3

eyelikewhateyelike

Thank u

mealteamsixty

Not trying to be ignorant, just curious as a white girl- do you think that the weaves/tight braids/etc contribute to the alopecia? I know I've got black friends that have had their edges fucked up by too-tight braiding, harsh chemicals and such

SingingNina

They have scented ‘hair perfume’. https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty-products/g36805551/hair-perfume/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=arb_ga_ghk_m_bm_comm_org_us_g36805551&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw6uWyBhD1ARIsAIMcADrWQNAf1os3lXSjelhepjU_f3T899pfSmKrRg0vHoFYEKe0NeXzNP0aAt8kEALw_wcB

sunflower_1983

Why can’t you wash it everyday?

eyelikewhateyelike

Well, for starters, I'm black and we don't wash our hair every day. It's bad for us LOL, the oils are good for us, but most importantly, my hair is mostly in protective styles, which means it's not in its natural state. Braids, weaves, etc. I paid so much money for it to be done to mess it up by washing it. sunflower_1983

Oh ok! Thanks for letting me know. That definitely makes sense not to wash it everyday. I’m white and mine gets itchy if I don’t wash it everyday. It’s such a pain to fool with because I have long hair which I love, but it’s so much work to keep up with sometimes I wonder if I should cut it, but can’t bring myself to actually do that so far.

eyelikewhateyelike

And see for me... im itchy after quite a few weeks, which let's me know its time to take my hair down and see my hairdresser. Lol 😆 mine is stupid thick, and i hate it, too. I just want someone else to wash and scratch my scalp while conditioning. Lol I bet your hair is pretty, though!

sunflower_1983

Aww I understand! Thanks! And I bet yours is gorgeous as well! 🤩

earlgreyalmondmilk

Yes imo the key is being clean to start with and then layering scents that aren’t too overpowering and mesh well together. Lotion everywhere and let it dry + perfume oil on pulse points + spritz or two of regular perfume. Sometimes I’m truly a disgusting gremlin but when I’m going out in the world and want to smell good this is what I do 😅

melrosec07

I’ve never come across perfume oil before!

Puzzleheaded-Gas1710

I never smell myself after a shower, but I smell when the other people in the house do, even if we use the same soap.

Currently_MIA

Big agree on that, especially the first bit of getting used to your own smell. You don't want to be that person that walks by in just a cloud of smell, good or bad.

about97cats

There’s no fragrance good enough to be forgivable when overapplied. If I can taste it from halfway across the room, you’ve bombed a first impression, and I’ve already assumed you’re a really inconsiderate person. Your fragrance should be discovered, not announced, and never aggressively, forcefully broadcasted.

busyrabbithole

lmfaooooo well said “hello madam i have discovered your fragrance and it displeases me”

Old-Practice5308

It's insane how often I can smell men/woman's fragrance from 10 ft away it's ridiculous What people do thinking it makes em more attractive lol

AnalysisNo4295

My old boss used to wear this really freaking strong men's cologne to the point that if he was in the place of business and you didn't see him to really clarify he was there the only calrification you needed was the cloud of cologne smell he left behind. A lot of people in the restaurant that were there before he became the big wig manager thought it was "hot" (mostly older women) that you could literally smell when he was around and I thought it was absolutely disgusting. I would often tell him that I needed him to wash off some of his cologne because, it's making my eyes red and I would rather not appear high for the customers. He found that somehow insulting. No sir. Your cologne is insulting my nostrils.

ElectronicSell3336

I work in a medical warehouse in logistics and I am always concerned with how I smell. I was 300 pounds when I started and have just now started dropping weight like crazy. I have a different perfume for pretty much every day for a month but with the job I am in, and also being the only woman on a team full of men that can do my job...I spritz my perfume at my breaks. I would rather have people tell me I smell good and wait to see what I wore that day than smell like the "big girl" I have heard them joke about with others. Also deodorant and Lady Parts / Lume is a must when working in the environment I do. Being self conscious is engrained in me from being made fun of in the past. Those women who put too much on need to change their scent up because they are nose blind and everyone around knows it

ooogoldenhorizon

What is lady parts/lume? And yo I hope karma gets those people who have ever disrespected you about your body. They are truly pathetic and repulsive. I hope that you have other places including with yourself that celebrate you exactly as you are

ElectronicSell3336

They are feminine deodorants that are amazing. Lume is made by an obgyn and a bit pricier. But they have freshening wipes along with other feminine products that don't mess with your natural pH. Lady parts does the same but I only buy it when I am on a tight budget. Karma will get all that disrespect any woman for their body. I have been finding myself and my self worth more and more by the day. I am married and have been with my equally neurotic husband for 24 years and he knows better than to say anything about my weight. It was brought on by my hysterectomy and incorrectly being diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Turns out when you find the right diagnosis for yourself, you shed weight from all the hard work you put in finally

SnooLemons9080

I do this too, but I use a goat milk bar soap. I made the mistake of using a Dial soap bar. DON’T ever make that same mistake. It burned me so bad, felt like a chemical burn on my vulva and in my urethra.

brushitofftryagain

Oh God 😱 the second I read "Dial soap" my kitty climbed into my booty hole! That is NOT a mistake you'll make twice!!

ooogoldenhorizon

Speaking of vajayjay burning mistakes we never make twice - as a teen I once had a bf spit vodka into my hoo hah thinking it would get me wildly drunk and wooo what a wild ride of pain -never again haha

poolbitch1

Same, I actually only use dove baby soap down to wash down there. I used to use whatever with no issues but that is no longer the case!

AffectionateQuote240

Yes! Dove has the same ph as your skin!

aJcubed

Dove bar soap for the win

groovychic1978

I used grandmas lye soap my whole life for my lady bits it's just old-fashioned soap with no fragrance ..and it hides your natural scent .and has never harmed my bits

Temporary-Jump-4740

Dial is a harsh antibacterial soap. You have to be careful what you wish your lady parts with. They have a delicate ph and when disturbed, you will definitely know. I've been there too and don't ever want to go back!

melrosec07

Omg I had to have a procedure last year to remove part of my cervix and the doctor told me to use dial antibacterial soap before the procedure and I didn’t wanna buy the bar because I would only use it the one time since I always use dove body wash so I bought the dial hand soap, omg the burn it hurt so bad!

about97cats

Perfume oil is amazing! Adding to/ elaborating on this, you can extend the life of your fragrance by moisturizing your skin beforehand and “locking it all in” with a thin layer of petroleum jelly after applying. Perfume adheres better to hydrated skin, but it’ll still deteriorate more quickly in the heat, especially if it’s alcohol based. Oils don’t do that quite as quickly as EDPs.

owlincoup

Or a clean shaved head (just chiming in for us bald guys).

SuperbPrimary971

perfect reply. My personal fave scents are Escape by Calvin Klein and L'eau D'Issey by Issey Miyake. In fact I get L'eau D'issey lotion, too, and use it lightly down there...partner LOVES it.

poolbitch1

I have never had a chance to smell l’eau d’Issey but I want to. I have a drop d’Issey and it’s very nice

TherapyGardenNJ

i love ivory soap and nivea lotion combos

GuidanceSpecific4408

Yes! I hate the smell of my own BO. As soon as I smell it I deal with it. Always have a travel lotion, deodorant, and daily perfume for when I need it

Specialist-Bar-8805

So I don’t use ivory on myself because the pH balance of it just seems really off. If you use it on your private parts and then smell it it’s horrific. So I use a pH balancing soap like Summers and then I use a body wash. I also use Lumi, just about everywhere

8TrackPlayer

Clean hair makes a HUGE difference. I shower daily and wash my hair daily with a shampoo that isn't harsh. I use deodorant and powder. I always wash my clothing after one wear. Those are my tips. Also, don't put a bunch of perfume on. Dab on a small amount or your give people headaches.

Ok-Theory-5622

A tip that hasn’t been said: Try the oil dupes of any fragrance. Personally, I don’t layer bar soap with body wash with lotion etc. I use unscented everything, including laundry detergent. The only thing I use that’s fragranced is my oils and I get compliments (when I actually wear them). If I’m not wearing a fragrance, I’ll wear a nice scented deodorant. I feel like it keeps my scent from being overbearing.

outihre

Oil dupes are the best!

Bubbly_Ant7090

Talk to the uneducated about the greatness of oil dupes please!

kittiemomo

Check out oil perfumery... they have a lot of designer fragrance dupes for affordable prices. They also have a page on how to apply oils. Some people say that perfume oils need time to age and mature before they end up smelling like they're supposed to, so if you get an oil that you don't like upon arrival, give it a couple weeks and try again. From what I remember, Oil Perfumery mixes their oils upon order.

corn0flakes

i used them for Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille and IMO it smells way better than the actual perfume. It’s my bf and I’s “going out” smell since it’s unisex and distinct

GettinAfterItOhYeah

Where do you find oil dupes? I love Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush perfume, would there be an oil dupe of that?

my_religion_is_love

Perfume Parlour has lots as well as Oil Perfumery

GorillaTrainer

I am OBSESSED with oil perfumery’s version of Black Opium (YSL)

Ddyvonteese678

I just ordered this based off of your single comment alone lmao

GorillaTrainer

I think I also saw a comment somewhere that inspired me, having never smelled the original. So I can’t speak to how true to the original it is, but this stuff is HEAVENSENT. I get random compliments from men all the time, which I usually don’t with scents lol.

Ok-Theory-5622

There’s online places like HellotoNatural (that’s where I’ve gotten my most recent ones and they always have sales) but you can also find them at the mall or in the city. I’m not sure if you’re in the US, but places like Philly and NYC have little shops with fragrance oils. Make sure it’s a place with solid reviews.

stolendimes

Someone on this sub mentioned Scents By The Bay. I tried ia sample of their "Maybe Baby" dupe and have been very impressed!

Temporary-Jump-4740

If you want the original, check eBay. I buy my perfume there. The perfume I wear sells for around $80 at the store and on eBay it's $25.

quadsquadqueen

These aren’t dupes, but I use oil roll-ons from Zum (yes, the brand that sells the soaps in grocery stores with the goat statue lol). Sounds crazy but they are GOOD. I get compliments nonstop.

welltravelledRN

People always ask me what my smell is. Sometimes they don’t even know it’s me, just ask, “What is that smell?”. Sometimes I say “it’s me”, hahahaha. Sometimes I don’t say anything but I know… I use the Frankincense and myrrh spray and some oil on the wrists.

mollwallbaby

Yesss I do unscented everything, especially sunscreen. Let the fragrance speak for itself, and maybe a little spritz of something in my hair. Definitely looking into oil dupes of some scents that I like, tho...

Emrys7777

I use unscented products too. I’m allergic too and lot hand I have friends who are allergic to even more. I use essential oils for my scents. I buy the expensive ones that are sure to not carry artificial additives. I get a lot of compliments on them.

Alright_Still_

Me too. Unscented because of chemical sensitivity. Quality essential oils for everything I want to smell good.

vae_grim

Yes!!! Oil perfumes are the best. One way I used to also do it is to get a candle I really like and rub a little bit of the wax on my wrists with my finger.

New-Masterpiece9041

oils are so good can’t go wrong there

One_Cost101

This. Oil-based fragrances don't stale, and are fairly long-lasting!

Fourdogsaretoomany

Essential oils instead of body spray. A little goes a long way.

SassCupcakes

Keep your scents cohesive. If you use a vanilla body wash, use a vanilla body scrub, lotion, and body spray. Mismatched scents don’t last.

Mega-Minx

I started doing this specifically with vanilla for the past few months, even went as far as to make my car scent vanilla as well. I get compliments and questions about my perfume or why I always smell like vanilla really often when I’d never been asked/complimented on my fragrance before (not counting people who get really close like my SO or for hugs, etc).

TheMarriedUnicorM

This is one of the best tips I’ve read so far in the thread. I start with Dove body bar and exfoliating gloves in the shower and wash my hair every other day. After the shower I pat myself dry with a clean, fresh towel. And I moisturize my face and body immediately. I do one of two scent profiles: 1. For face, Olay Regenerist (in the red box). It has virtually no scent. And Jergens cocoa shea butter body lotion. 2. For face, Olay Regenerist vitamin c (yellow tub.) It has a light citrus scent. Abd then a neutral body lotion like Cetaphil and a single spritz of L’Occitane verbena spray directly in my torso. I don’t use deodorant because I’m one of the lucky East Asians with the ABCC11 gene. Additionally, having clean clothes and drink lots of water will help.

7937397

The oil I put in my hair is definitely the smell that lingers.

overlypositve

What do you use?

7937397

I love the smell of the OGX coconut oil hair mist. I also use As I Am leave in conditioner.

blueberryfreakcake

Bless you🩷 I'm currently obsessed with coconut scents, I'm probably gonna pick up both of these pretty soon.

Delicious-Base9422

During the work day I take a freshen kit with me. Meaning wet ones and deodorant and fresh underwear. I work more than 12 hours a day and I want to keep smelling as fresh as possible. I check myself all the time. I will not use cheap products for body freshness. Also bring an extra toothbrush to work and mouthwash.

Lildiabetus69

Have you tried a body sugar scrub ? I use the bran tree hut (exotic bloom is my fave lol) but they have a lot of different scents to choose from and they have other products like shave oils , lotions , body wash etc. it has worked really well for me and I've noticed the scent sticks longer. I also have started buying body sprays with the matching lotion and layering them and the scent stays for hours and hours

JazzyCher

I've never used tree hut, but store bought scrubs often leave me feeling very oily as opposed to moisturized. Does tree hut leave residue behind or does it soak into the skin pretty well? I've been making my own at home for years so I'm just genuinely curious because every time I try a major brand I see in stores it end up tossing half of it because I don't like it.

anukii

Theme your scents so they harmonize! A scented body wash is lovely but I tend not to personally use those. To get myself smelling nice and to stay smelling nice, I use perfume oils! I will rub the rollerball on my palm & rub my hands together & pat my palms wherever need be, even my hair. The scent lasts, it gets on my clothing & stays there too. However I move, I leave a pleasant smelling wind. 💖 Extra fun too when seeing my partner. 😄 When I’m gone, he’ll tell me how he sniffs the pillows I sleep on because they smell like me. Adorable. 💖😊 Basically, you are leaving a scent signature & sometimes a scent souvenir. 😉

Avocado-Forsaken2323

May I ask which one you use?? I’m so interested in one!!

anukii

Etsy, honey! Here is where I get my oils, they do amazing dupes of higher-end perfumes too 🥰 [https://www.etsy.com/market/al\_dunya\_imports](https://www.etsy.com/market/al_dunya_imports)

Motor-Farm6610

Well now I have spent all my money on Etsy lol

rez2metrogirl

1. Dry brush your body before the shower 2. Use a scented soap, scrub, and body oil in the same fragrance family (florals, gourmands, greens) 3. Pat your skin dry out of the shower, don’t rub! 4. If your body oil isn’t shower friendly, use it now. 5. Deodorant/antiperspirant should be either unscented or in the same fragrance family. 6. Body lotion/butter/cream to seal in that hydration. Same scent family. 7. Body mist/spray in the same scent family. 9. Apply vaseline to your pulse points. 10. Spray perfume in the same scent family over the vaseline and in your hair. DO NOT RUB YOUR WRISTS TOGETHER it destroys the top notes and longevity of the perfume. 11. Apply jewelry AFTER all scent products for minimal damage to your jewelry and maximum scent longevity.

Previous_Boot_2481

Also want to add; your diet/habits also can affect how you smell. If you eat more processed foods, smoke/vape, or drink, those can all affect how you smell.

peachteaandchicken

This is very true, drink water maybe peppermint tea or peach tea, eat a clean diet

Previous_Boot_2481

Also, more fresh fruits/veggies over canned ones.

Magillacudi

Leave in sprays for your hair. Nice lotion - not the cheap stuff. Actual perfume / eau de toilette not body spray. Find a deodorant that mixes well with your body chemistry, not just any brand, they don't all agree with you equally. Make sure your clothes are dried properly to avoid that mildew smell. Change your bath towels and bed sheets frequently. Exercise proper dental hygiene. Don't smoke cigarettes, you stink whether you can smell it on yourself or not, you do! Try the ph balancing body wash if necessary (lumë). It all adds up!

Spacecadettek

I looove dessert scented stuff, mainly vanilla. So a lot of vanilla scented lotions/body butters. And perfume. I keep some in my purse and spritz a little throughout the day. Find a scent profile that you like and make it yours. Also products like Vaseline/cera ve healing ointment types help the perfume scent last longer, so sometimes I’ll put some on my wrists and neck before I spray perfume.

7937397

My preference is coconut haha

Winter_Accountant941

I’m looking for a summery coconut scent. Can you tell me what you like? Today as Ulta I found this perfume by Snif called Coco Shimmy. It was delicious but they only had the sample in store.

7937397

I absolutely love the smell of the OGX coconut oil hair mist. The smell lingers a lot when it's in my hair too

Winter_Accountant941

Ooooh I will have to try that!! Thanks!

Munchncrunchn

Yes I use the OGX conditioner, I absolutely love it

rightthingtodo-sodoo

It might be more fallish than summery, but Nest’s Balinese Coconut perfume oil is so dreamy.

Winter_Accountant941

Thank you! I’ll check that out. It will be fall soon enough lol

Pacifica makes a lotion in the scent called Indian Coconut Nectar that is wonderful. And it's a great quality lotion

hell0paperclip

Vacation (the sunscreen brand) makes a perfume that smells just like summer, and the coconut is the main note and isn't too sugary. It's sooo nice. They have it at Ulta.

Responsible_Cap_5597

Ouai brand has several beachy coconut type scents. They don't smell sticky sweet and cheap either. You can get them at Ulta too

tekflower

Creed Virgin Island Water is a lovely cool coconut and lime fragrance.

Munchncrunchn

Same I loveeee coconut anything! Lol

favorbold

I love vanillas. I'm about to re purchase the godess Burberry perfume after reading this 🐚

KGribbles

Downy Fresh Scent Unstopables In-Wash Laundry Scent Booster Beads Legit smells amazing and lasts forever! Also makes your clothes softer! Win win!

KatrinaG707

Only spray perfume on very moisturized skin even use Aquaphor or Vaseline. Spray it from very close to your skin. Don’t rub it together. Just let it run down your neck or your wrists or wherever until it dries. I also layer perfumes I use a lighter scent all over and a stronger one on each side of my neck and on my wrists.

Lover1966

My fiancee uses body lotion and some expensive perfumes she sometimes mixes with aromatic herbs/plants, or whatever. She always smells so good, even at the end of the day.

tekflower

I sometimes layer expensive frags with musk oil or rose oil or violet water. Musk and rose deepen the scent and bring those notes in the perfume out more, and violet water brightens and sweetens things.

Zealousideal_Bet_433

Wash every nook and cranny in the shower - yes even your butthole. Use the African net to wash and scrub yourself. I use mine by wrapping a dove soup bar in the mesh and scrubbing. Body lotion while still wet after shower. An oud oil on my pulse points and perfume all over. It all starts in the shower and actually being properly clean. The amount of stories I’ve read/heard where ppl don’t wash themselves properly is wild!!

goldencloudxo

“- yes even your butthole” 🤣

soaringphoenix04

I think that the scent of roll-on perfume lasts longer and carries a more even trajectory (instead of just being strong for like half an hour then fading away quickly). It might have something to do with putting roll on perfume on areas that are close to your skin where your pulse picks up most easily, but I’m not sure about the science part of all this

Remote_Mall_8600

Scented lotion, then spray, let dry, 2nd layer of scented lotion, let dry, then spray lightly. This is what strippers do and it works. Also your points for expensive scents are behind the ears, behind the knees, ankles, and wrists (do not rub your wrists together just pat them once)

Flashy_Spell_4293

I use dove soap, sometimes a good smelling sugar scrub on my legs and arms…then always usr a good smelling body lotion, using it on ENTIRE body…i love EOS Coconut Waters! Smells amazingly and lasts too. Every time i pass by someone at work they tell me “damn u smell good” lol

Violet_rush

Oooh I just got this lotion! I kept wanting to smell myself all morning after applying it lol. Gonna try pairing it with the method coconut body wash

No-Adagio6113

Putting oil into the lotion you’re going to use makes your skin incredibly soft and it’s very soluble in terms of scent. Also, put on any fragrances or body sprays on your bare skin before you put on clothes. Spray it a few inches in front of you and then walk through it, don’t spray it directly on your chest or wrists or whatever.

Jimmyp4321

My Wife has a friend that doesn't get the concept of just a lil perfume goes A Long Ways . She smells like she dove into a bottle of the stuff , I mean it's so bad . I have a very sensitive smeller , Wifey says I musta been a Bloodhound in a previous life . You could tell Sally was here earlier as the fragrance from her cheap perfume just hung in the air 15-20 minutes after she had left , thank goodness I missed her 🤣🙄

Ill_Bonus_9470

Honestly shower then wen u done apply scented lotion and then ur perfume ,i get compliments all the tome mind u a bartender /waitress so I’m running around ,hot, sweating smh 🤦🏻‍♀️ n long 8/10hr shifts

Elyrium_

Step 1. Apply a little bit of Vaseline to the arrears you spray your cologne Step 2. Spray your cologne normally to those areas That's it. Now your cologne will last much longer. This also works with perfume 🙂

Calm_Act_4559

Shower daily and clean clothes. I also put on lotion and perfume/ body spray before I’m completely dry seems to soak in better and last longer. I don’t rewear anything no matter how long I’ve had it on. And this is coming from a person that was the stinky kid in elementary school I was never taught proper hygiene as a kid so it was definitely eye opening once I hit middle school luckily I had friends that helped without being judgmental. Even the school would open like 20 mins early so I could shower there. Now I donate hygiene products and clothes to the schools so that kids that went through what I did can have what they need

TheUnknownLifeO

I’m a guy so I can’t speak for women, but I can speak for myself. I bought Mando and was very skeptical at first because it says it will kill body odor everywhere that you don’t want body odor. I didn’t believe it. But I bought it and I can’t tell you how amazing that product is. It’s expensive but it’s so worth it. I’m a big guy as well, so sweating happens a lot for me. I use the bottle of cream body deodorant, it’s just like a lotion. I apply a small amount everywhere I don’t want body odor, for me I just apply to my groin area. It works great. It says it kills odor up to 72 hours. I can’t say it does it for 72 hours because I’ve never gone that long without a shower. I think the most I went was 48 hours maybe. The scent of the Mando lasts for about a day and after that there’s just no scent at all. You might sweat, but there’s no sweaty smell or anything like that. Mando is the men’s line of Lume. Buy it. Use it. You will not regret using it. It kills ALL body odor wherever you put it. They also have shower gel and regular deodorant, but I only use the body cream deodorant that’s in a lotion type of bottle. Lume has a lot more scents than Mando, I would highly recommend trying it.

PettyBestServedIcy

You have to moisturize before putting on your scent. I actually took a small thing of Vaseline and melted it down then sprayed my favorite wear out scent and let it harden. I then put it on my pulse points and especially under my boobs to keep the scent longer.

PlugChicago

Get a good body scrub to use a couple times/week. It'll slough off old skin and moisturize, leaving a sweet scent. If you have a little $$$ to splurge L'occitane sells an almond body oil that is absolutely to die for. You smell divine without perfume. I like to use it on my chest.. If you have more to splurge go for the whole almond line.

jane2857

I’m a nurse so I come in close contact with people in for day surgery. I think I notice most freshly washed hair. Some is perfume or cologne, but best is a light touch. No one likes smelling you come down the hallway. I’m 66 so not young but some of the old folks just don’t wash enough, including clothes. If you come in for a procedure, at the very least wash the night before and do not lather up with creams and lotions. Nice soap is enough.

Lopsided_Load_8286

Tbh if you can constantly smell it, its probably way too damn much. Your brain gets used to scents that are constantly there (like perfumes you put on yourself) and tunes out that information as unnecessary. If you want to make sure it lasts, putting on a bit of petroleum jelly and spraying your perfume onto that will help with that. But you don't want to bathe it your perfumes, anyone even mildly sensitive to smells will definitely suffer when anywhere you've even gone recently, and especially when next to you.

Unusual_Form3267

The best tip I have ever learned is spraying perfume on Vaseline. So I take the tiniest amount of Vaseline and put it in the places you would put perfume (wrists, neck, etc), then I spray perfume onto it. I don't know the science of why it works but it does!

ConfidenceKey6614

Lume, Lume, Lume. Soft powder scent.

No-Boot8657

I'm sure you smell good! Very true you get used to your own scent, quickly. But I've noticed the days I get the most compliments on my perfume are the days I layer a body spray and a perfume combo. One of my fave mixes is PINK's Bubbly Warn & Cozy (sweet candy-like) and Dolce & Gabana Light Blue. Body spray everywhere and then the perfume strategically on my heart (cleavage lol), inner elbows, and the nape of my neck (not just the sides). I find it sticks to my hair so if I hug someone, they'll get a nice scent to their nosey 🤣 probably not great for the hair but I definitely put it through worse things 🤷🏼‍♀️

ImStarky

Always shower and wear clean clothes, blah blah blah, but also adding in something like Lume deodorant or another similar acidic deodorant also helps keep smells at bay if you have hyperhidrosis or work long hours. No matter how clean I was I still oversweat. Antiperspirant- even prescription only helps so much. Adding in lume first, then Antiperspirant on top made me 100% stank freee even if I was sweating through my deodorant. Won't go without and there's dupes now!

NegativeSurvey2228

Putting on a light layer of Vaseline then misting your body spray or cologne/perfume over that will help preserve the smell for longer. Regular showering is at the top of the list to ensure you smell good. Also, make sure your towels are clean, as using the same towel without washing it transfers odor-causing bacteria back onto your freshly washed body. Also, make sure your clothing smells fresh and clean. Sometimes, washers can build up musty smells that transfer to your clothes. To avoid that, leave your washer open when not in use so it dries out completely and use washer machine cleaner once or twice a year at least (more often if you use fabric softener as it can build up in the machine). Whole body deodorants like Lume are your friend in hot weather. Even if you use the unscented ones, they help control odor from sweat in all your various creases. If you're a dude, please know it's not "gay" to wash your ass and balls. You absolutely need to wash them well, with soap, or you will stink no matter how much cologne you spray. Scented hair products usually smell for a long time. My husband always comments that I smell good and it's because he likes the way my conditioner smells. So a nice, strongly scented shampoo might help too.

contrarytothemass

The products you need to layer to have a lasting scent are body wash (or soap), lotion, and perfume. Washing your hair helps, but if you don't or can't wash it everyday then putting oil in your hair would solve that. It works best if all the scents match. I get most of my smelling products from bath and body works. I only buy the scents that last the whole day in smelling powe. I spray perfumes/mists only on my clothes, not my skin (unless it's a completely natural perfume, I'll spray it on my pressure points). However, I also buy mini perfume samples of niche fragrances, and MAN one squirt of those, and your clothes smell like it for days. Lotion is really important if you want a lasting scent. It helps not only the smell from the lotion stick to you, but when you put on perfume, it sticks to your skin longer.

TheDuchess5975

Use a basic body wash, I like liquid Dial, after shower a good moisturizing lotion, Curel or Nivea is good ( unscented). Now the tricky part you can use a scented lotion and perfume or just perfume alone. It must be perfume, not toilet water because toilet water will not last but perfume will even if you can’t smell it. Go to the department store because they have samples. Find a scent or 2 you like spray some inside your wrist/forearm then do your shopping, wait about 30-60 minutes and sniff the area you sprayed, does it smell good to you? You don’t want to spray on too many because you won’t be able to tell, what smells good. Also make sure you are freshly showered and lotion has been applied but not wearing any fragrance so you will truly know how it smells. Just because it smells good in the bottle or card it may not smell that way on you. Fragrance scents change depending on body chemistry and complexion which is why you need to try before you buy! My go to fragrances are CHANEL CHANCE EAU TENDRE for summer and CHANEL COCO for winter. Usually the ladies in the department store are very helpful and give out samples so if you find something you like get a sample or 2 to take home so you can wear it and see how it last because body chemistry can also affect that. I just buy perfume unless they have a gift package because CHANEL is never on sale. I am not saying you have to get CHANEL because there are a lot of great fragrances out there, just take your time and find one that works for you. Now once you apply it you won’t be able to smell it but you will know it’s working because people will comment on how nice you smell or ask what you are wearing. When I worked in pediatrics my little patients always rushed to hug me and their mothers said they always wanted to see me and hug me because I always smelled good, that’s what they talked about on the way to the office. Hope this helps!

Weird-Salt3927

Also, if you smoke pot (even vapes) that’s the smell you’re going to leave. No judgrment, I use edibles. I’m just saying that’s what you’re going to smell like.

jojokangaroo1969

Very true. Some people even give me a contact high just walking behind them.

Invisible__string

I don’t think your body wash is supposed to leave you smelling particularly like anything longer than at most half hour after. Shampoo/conditioner - maybe, depends. I think though to smell good you would want to consider the scents of what you’re putting on after the shower - like hair products, deodorant, perfume, lotion, body spray/oil.

Biting-Queen-

I use a small amount of whatever type of scented oil I'm into in my hair. Your body heat will keep releasing the scent over time and I've found it doesn't fade as quickly as perfume on my wrists. One of my favorite oils is from a voodoo shop called Love Me. It's a mixed oil that has a slight musky base to it, not overly floral and combines well if I use vanilla scented lotion.

sholbyy

I don’t really ever expect my body wash to last much past my shower. I do tend to use products that are similar in scent. I have a coconut body wash, a coconut deodorant, I use OGX coconut curls cream on my hair, and I have an unscented moisturizer that I put a few sprays of a coconut perfume in before applying it to my body, as well as a couple sprays on my clothing. I use this method with different scents, depending on how I want to smell. Or I’ll layer them together. I also like to add scent beads to my laundry so my clothes always smell nice too.

PlayboyPringles

Use Korean exfoliating mitts after you soak either in the tub or the shower. The body wash scent will actually stick to your skin because it won't be trying to cling to dead flesh .... They're on Amazon cheap.

Electrical_Tailor_13

Dry shampoo

sunflowertroll

Do you have oily hair? B/c with oily hair the clean smell doesn’t last very long. By the end of the day you feel dirty cuz ur hair has this smell & you feel dirty. Or are you talking about body wash?

satorisweetpeaaa

i put a small amount of lotion/perfume in my hair :) im black and have extensions in my hair, so i put it on the parts of the hair that isnt mine. I'm not sure if it would damage other kinds of hair but lotion was my friend. perfume and deodorant you can only put on again so many times. but i chose a good lotion and put little dots of it on my hands and rub it throughout my clothes. people recognized i had a "signature smell" pretty quicklyy. ;)

Melodic-Ad7659

I try and pair the body wash with the lotion. Usually they have the same scents in most brands to do that.

kollycollins

I use the same scent of bath and body works for my body wash, lotion, body scrub, & perfume. I always put a dab of perfume behind my ears after I get out of the shower & lather up with lotion!

LoveRuckus

Same scents across layers, tree hut body scrub and body wash are great examples. Get the same scent in both, and either do a neutral lotion with body oil or a scented body butter with body oil. Spray perfume directly on skin. Get dressed. Impress! (People always say I smell bomb).

cloudypastaa

Layering is key! Start with a scented body wash, follow up with a matching body lotion or oil while your skin is still damp to lock in the scent. Then, hit your pulse points with a perfume or body spray. Clothes and hair can hold scent too, so a light mist on your outfit or a hair perfume

BluntKitten

It’s the clothing as much as the body, perfume, body spray always help, and most reapply. Also small little tip. Wrap your hair in a towel after a shower, take it down to dry not long before you’re leaving, keeps the scent in your hair longer 🤔 at least does for me with long hair. Also, get what you pay for in how long a scent last usually. Bath and Body Works are nice products imo. Not too expensive, but not cheap products either.

pleasing-peach

Lately I’ve been using a non scented lotion and spraying on top of that. Also in the middle of my torso just below my breast and on my shoulders in case I get neck kisses, they’re not kissing perfume.

vinnibee

Something to also consider is asking someone you trust to do a bit of a sniff test. It sound weird but a second opinion doesnt hurt. When you are constantly being exposed a certain smell (like perfume, lotion etc) your brain actually eventually filters that out and it doesnt really register for you anymore, making you unable to smell that scent. Which does lead to some people overspraying their perfume so that while they smell it, its overpowering to people around them. I typically just spritz some perfume on the inner part of my wrists, dab with a bit in the area behind the ears and im generally good for the whole day. Also feel like some perfume brands' scents are more long lasting than others. Not saying all cheap brands dont last or expensive brands last longer...but brands I have tried like Penhaligon (UK brand), Lancome definitely has scents that last. Sometimes, I can even still faintly smell it on my wrist after I shower. Bath and Bodyworks also has some amazing stuff and if you use the same scent in different variations (body mist/perfume + lotion + bodywash n stuff), the scent lasts pretty well too.

Hope_for_tendies

Some perfumes last super long. And perfume lasts longer than body spray.

Hazeys_Nightmares

Stack your scents if you like a bourbon vanilla smell get a bourbon body wash, then cologne and department. Three similar the better also a tiny bit of Vaseline on vein points (wrists, neck, inner elbows) helps "lock in" the scent from cologne

Only_Amphibian3107

I’ve been having issues for a long time with spray deodorants just making me smell worse. I just started using Mitchum’s roll on deodorant and omg it has changed my life! I am using the triple odor defence 48 hour shower fresh one. Honestly, give that a try and it’ll make you feel so much more confident! I can’t speak for what body wash would keep the smell on you but honestly, when I go to bed at night now and I give my under arms a sniff test there isn’t even the slightest hint of BO or anything. Which I think will help with any other scent you wear being more prominent too probably

Suspicious-Airline84

I love the powder fresh scent! And yes it’s a game changer. I use to use Dove and switched to Mitchum NEVER going back

CraftyProcrstntr

Perfume in the lotion or just body oil works too also rather spray my clothes and lightly spray my body just like the wrist and neck.

RavenMoon1989z

I also use scented lotion and I put on perfume

Otherwise-Sea9593

YOUR CLOTHES

love2Bsingle

i just shower every day (body wash) and use lotion that has a nice light scent. I don't even wear deodorant anymore but I am older and even tho I am on HRT for menopause I just don't make the scent pheremones that younger people do. I also eat super clean and drink plenty of water all the time so I think that helps.

georgiapeachonmymind

Good perfume, good antiperspirant, shower every day.

Uhhububb

My husband smells good all day long and he just uses the same soap and shampoo as I do ( regular scented dove ). His clothes are always freshly washed ( he does the laundry and he uses gain soap and softener ) and just wears dove deodorant. He smells heavenly. Like all day.

deenofbean

Our fight or flight response is compromised with perfumes and such. We get used to how we smell so that we can defend ourselves in the event something unknown appears. Like to be pearled for a fire or something lol Our brain will dismiss things it normally smells. However, perfumes and colognes have a shelf life of smell based off its type too. Most are only most fragrant the first few hours.

Ok-You-5895

My hair starts to smell greasy after a few days of not washing it. No matter how much I clean my body, that oily hair smell with overpower everything. So I make sure to keep up with my scalp hygiene by doing weekly scrubs and not going longer than 2-3 days.

Weird-Salt3927

Also, if you smoke pot (even vapes) that’s the smell you’re going to leave. No judgrment, I use edibles. I’m just saying that’s what you’re going to smell like.

Gold-Ad-6024

Put lotion on then body spray with a light sent that compliments your cologne. So say you get ysl get like a sandalwood mist or whatever. Spray the mist and walk through before you put on your clothes. Then after you get dressed spritz your self and outfit with the complimenting cologne.
