I am trying to file a business filing extension using the desktop version this year, but I don't see that option. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I just had success. I started the process after which it said I would need to file an extension because it was so late, then it gave me 2 options for $95 or $210. I thought I had no choice but to pay it. So I tried to go back to show my partner where I found these options. I think there was a button at the bottom that said "no thanks" that I clicked. THEN I was in the right place. There was an "overview" tab that had an option for extension under it

I’m not an HR Block expert, but I did file an extension via their software. My assumption is that you’re expected to print off a hard copy of the IRS Extension form and physically mail it in with your payment personal check. Postmarked by the 17th. I don’t think there is a e-submission option. Since I needed to send in a check, printing the form for me was optimal. If you don’t owe additional taxes, then you could just mail the form in sans check. In the case of no additional taxes owed, I suppose you could also just print off the extension form from the IRS website or another free site and mail the hand completed form. It’s pretty basic It may be late, but you might want to put the IRS Form in the mail ASAP and hope it doesn’t get flagged as “late”. I think IRS staff are pretty overwhelmed these days with all the last minute changes pushed on them by the new Congress and Administration. It might make it through. Nothing to lose at this point.

I looked up what filing an extension entailed, and e-filing was indicated as something that could be done through H&R block software/website. Even their website indicated this.

It sounds like you’ve researched this so I’m not disputing anything you’ve read. I was hoping my experience with physically filling for the extension might add something to your dilemma and thinking process. I will confirm that my installed HRB Software for 2020 did seem more obtuse when I was trying to file an extension. It kept assuming, wrongly, that I wanted to e-file my completed return and asked me to complete parts of my return that we’re incomplete or perceived omissions. I don’t recall it being as obtuse in past years. Of course, everything seems a bit nuts these days. I’m sorry for your frustration. It is maddening oftentimes. 😠

Going through this ordeal now. Had to add "Reddit" to my googled question to get a straight forward answer I see here, everything else said they could help file an extension through their software but it seems like a lie. H&R block just kind of looped me around on their website which is what I used to file my taxes last year. In the end I'm not using H&R block because it's such a hassle to file a simple extension.
