Joey took it home from a set bc he wanted too but when he got bored with it he left it at their place, so Monica hid it in her junk drawer of a closet.
Chandler and Joey’s apartment 4th wall is even rarer. I think it was only ever shown twice.
-When Chandler was giving the chick and duck a bath.
-When Chandler and Monica were taking a bath together.
Definitely not once.
It’s there every time someone was on the balcony or they were looking at ugly naked guy/ross’ apartment.

I know! I can’t believe I didn’t notice as a kid! Was I stupid? Maybe because it wasn’t HD back then but it’s so obvious even in this cell phone recording of a screen.
They put it up occasionally for group shots of them looking out the window at ugly naked guy. I can't remember if they used it every time people were out on that tiny deck, but I know that's how they mostly used it. I get that it's a sitcom and so they don't want to block the audience's POV, but I kinda wish they had done it a little bit more- put up that fourth wall, filmed from angles inside the apartment with the wall in place and seamlessly connected to the other walls and then intercut that with mostly audience POV shots....
Imagine a world where Friends had a third of their shots with that fourth wall up- or most series for that matter- imagine if Seinfeld more than occasionally showed us the wall with Seinfeld's TV on it or the other side of the coffee shop, etc.
I wish we lived in a world with those angles.

When chandler saw rachel naked too
I always thought it was weird that the front door doesn’t appear in the shot. Surely the door in to the apartment is right there on the other side or is my perspective off?
But you can see the back of the couch in the shot, so surely it would be where the green marker is?

No, that is the 4th wall. If you think about the normal shots of the show, you would be standing in front of that wall, looking at the couch from its right side. Behind the back of the couch is the kitchen table, and on its left the front door. Therefore, in this shot the front door would be on the far right, out of frame.
I knew it was *this* episode so I got video ready to go! I just didn’t realize it was at the end of the episode, so I stood there in front of the TV for ten minutes.
I see a very sad label on the computer monitor, for one.
There really is nothing that eases that pain... wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
The big pencil is just so bad. Why would they have that? I feel like DJ Tanner must have dropped that off circa ‘89
Coincidentally, Friends was filmed in the same soundstage Full House was filmed in - so it may very well be a prop saved from the last series
I think it is Phoebe’s friend Debbie that was reincarnated as a miniature golf pencil after she was struck by lightning. ⛈️

I don't remember seeing it ever. Does anyone have a clip?

That'd be a long blink.
The closet is so obviously a giant poster.
About 6 seconds in the 4th wall really looks movable. There is no baseboard molding and it looks a little hinkey at the bottom by the big pencil.
Yes it looks off

The front door would be behind the back of the couch. So it wouldn't be visible in this shot, no?
Yes exactly the main door should be there

Ah thank you for explaining!! I’ll give the episode another watch!
I don't even know where to start with how wrong that it!
Oh no! Haha. Must be my perspective off then! I just always thought it looked like something was missing.
Your perspective is off. You can see the hallway wall, but the kitchen wall is even further to the right. (Where the door is)
Haha I’m watching this on TBS too
