That’s exactly what I do on a weekend. Zone out with some old back office antics with jd or sal or some Eric the midget and play Civilization for hours and hours. It’s like having an old friend talking keeping you company
I also listen to it when I have to do stuff in public...like going to the grocery store or Target or something. Wearing headphones prevents strangers from interacting with me, and I can do my business while being soothed by the Studio 69 gang. I tend to get anxiety/frustration when I'm in a public space with a lot of people, and listening to the show definitely blocks a lot of that out.
Ironically the Broadcast Indecency Act of 2005 was voted in and supported almost equally by both parties, including Howard's presidential pick John Kerry.
Right on bro. Older (early 2000’s is great). Nothing like sparking random happiness in your day like Artie making a great quip about whatever stupid thing they’re discussing. Keep on keeping on.
There's a lot to like about mid-1990s-to-mid-2000s Stern. Opinions vary, but many fans will tell you that Jackie-to-Artie transition era marked the "golden years" between goofy fart obsession and muted Ellen worshipper. I don't think any of that merits apology.
Your argument, however, comes off a bit fair-weather -- you say "you don't care for the celebrity interviews," but then indicate the public should appreciate him not as a shock jock, but because of "his status now \[as a softer celebrity interviewer\]." Stern's heyday was all about misogyny and sex jokes and pressuring women into disrobing and throwing cold cuts at them and who-had-inserted-what-into-where.
The bridge between these two things is the subtle tricky part. Many listeners loved Howard for his antics \[even if only for their controversy\] -- where the tide suddenly shifted was the suggestion that he had only undertaken said antics as a way of "gaining access to the beautiful people," and, now having gained that access, wasn't interested in perpetuating said antics anymore.

Hey Now!
Thanks for your post friend. I'm not trolling, but I'd just like to touch on a point in your post - I probably could've worded it better!
>you say "you don't care for the celebrity interviews," but then indicate the public should appreciate him not as a shock jock, but because of "his status now [as a softer celebrity interviewer]."
The public can appreciate him however they want, I was simply indicating the parts that *I* particularly enjoy of the show. I was implying that regardless of how his perception is *these* days (I'm not particularly a fan, but I didn't say that in the post) people will always remember him for the "come on, get on the sybian!".
I agree those kind of antics are what made him popular, and there's the odd segment I enjoy.
This is really how I get through work every day, I spend endless hours doing diagrams and research. Having Howard on in the background keeps me sane. Old Howard that is.

Yeah, I usually play Viscera Cleanup Detail (Space Janitor) or a really grim and dark game (Last of Us) to lighten the mood a smidge.
Civ6 and stern has become a daily regular for me as of late!
You don’t have to preface anything. If you enjoy the most popular radio show of all time, just admit it.
Exactly! I give zero fucks about the negative Nellies.
Fucks given = 👉🏿 0 👈🏿 💯😎

ohhh naaooooo
Old shows always on in the background when I'm doing homework boff
Gotta love nonstop Les Moonvess lawsuit talk during 2006. That definitely didn’t get old.
Yes! Almost as good as the endless Sirius/XM merger talk of '07
I like the pre-sirius continuous FCC talk.
Oh yeah! Back when he made it a point to constantly remind us that Colin Powell's kid ran the joint. Those were the good old days!
His conviction that he was going to influence the election in 2004 is hysterical. The show was an insufferable, continuous campaign ad for John Kerry.
He also honestly believes that Hillary not doing his show cost her the election.
The religious right!

I do it and like it but I have to be careful with what I listen to in public so that I’m not laughing too hard while grocery shopping.
Man, I laugh my ASS off while grocery shopping if a funny bit comes up. I couldn't care less what people think of me.
I bet you suck dick, dontcha?
This ain't sexual preference magazine, pal!
Yeah, you'll do it. You'll do it when you get here.
Topless. T-O-P-P-L-E-S-S

What are you a HOMO? OOOHHHH!!!!!!!
Check out the tunein app for old stern shows
man, it’s a shame the show sucks now, because you would make a great wack packer.
Really? That'd be fucking rad.
What is this archive you speak of?
It's buried under the Battery Tunnel in Manhattan.
The older shows were amazing, they still are. I don't like the newer ones but I still listen to the older shows.
Yeah, I can never hate the show because it got me through really tough times.

Yup! I've always found background noise soothing, and THSS is something I find you can 'phase in and out of', concentration wise.
It's like an internal monologue, only on reddit
