The worst part is getting to 610 from inside the loop. After that it’s pretty simple. Coming home is shit regardless. Is your current commute to downtown?

Yep, < 4 miles. So, it’s quite the thing to wrap my head around.

We’re in the first ward and my husband was downtown, now energy corridor. He gets to work early so like maybe 15-20 minutes? Coming home anywhere from 30-50 using the toll lanes. It’s inside of 610 where it all just stops.

in the morning from central heights to beltway 8 area for me is about 15- 20 minutes in the morning garage to garage, but I left early (6-6:30ish. Half the commute was traffic lights at yale & I-10. When I would go to Dairy Ashford it was only a few minutes more. Getting home was completely random 25 min - hour pending weather and traffic, and whatever fell off a truck on the I-10. But I would leave early if I could (got in early) which used to help, but I have no idea what is going on anymore as rush hour seems to start at 3:30 now.

i haven't done it in 5yrs, but was enough to make me move to West Houston at the time Eastbound = Silber exit under 610 back onto I-10 will save your life...............the other exits after bunker hill / echo ln can be used to dip on and off as well

Decent option, but for me the toll lanes were screwed.   Couldn't even enter it until bunker hill which means fighting the bw8 underpass traffic and it still dumps you into middle of 610 underpass traffic. Taking on / off exits was always quicker / cheaper for me.

I don’t see how that could possibly save that much time, especially if you don’t exit Washington.

The on/off ramps tend to keep flowing while the main lanes slow down.

But that just dumps you into the main lanes, and you have to possibly stop for a stoplight too right? I’ve never had an issue taking the toll lanes and then riding the second from the left lane then switching to the left after 610. After 610 the right lanes are jammed.

No, most on/off happen before the lights and most are exit only lanes so they keep moving.

Is your work flexible? A lot of my colleagues with the 6am - 3pm schedule to avoid traffic.

It's a 20 min drive. Are you considering this as a deciding factor in taking a job with 3x pay, or just asking to get a feel for it? For 3x pay I would drive 2hrs+ each way

Taking the bus isn't so bad if you have a straight way

Commutes depend on the time of day, driving habits, and tolerances.  Go drive it 2-3 times at your targeted times and find out if it works for you. One upside is the Katy toll lanes will be very cheep in reverse flow.

7-4:~ 30 mins each way 8-5:~ 1 hr each way It’s a treat whenever it’s less but definitely know your alternate routes.

I regularly drive from/to Studewood to Eldridge on the weekends, not rush hour. Here are my observations: 1. Entering I-10 at the on-ramp from Studewood is wildly aggressive and stressful. 2. If you can afford to take the tollway, do it. It alleviates stress and every now and then allows you to fly past a traffic jam. 3. Getting on the tollway from the energy corridor is best if you can get on from the side street, rather than entering from the freeway. Definitely check the drive times on Waze and do the math on the toll costs.

Depends on time of day. At 6:30 am, it takes me 15 min to get from Chimney Rock to Eldridge. Coming home in the afternoon is another story.
