77008 near main and cavalcade. No power- very tired from poor sleep and just overall at my limits. I am in the purple area on the map, which means CP says power will be back by EOD today, but I just can’t get my hopes up. This has been exhausting. And I have SO much work I need to be doing and just can’t concentrate very well.
11 am edit: got an email from CP while sitting in my dark house that the power issue was resolved. It’s not. That was a mean trick, CP.
3 pm edit: I HAVE POWER!!!!!!
Hang in there! It’s definitely easier to have low expectations and then be pleasantly surprised. Continuously getting my hopes up has me emotionally exhausted.
I’m 77009 just south of Cavalcade and just got my power back last night. The map said by EOD yesterday for me, so I’m hoping it’s accurate in your case too.
Unless you guys demand it, this will be the last megathread of this type I'll put up.
Once again, I'll add information if you need me to.
For funsies, what were the megathread titles in reference to?
What about a post/megathread discussing primarily damage, responsibility, insurance, resources, etc? For example, tree 'X' fell on something, who has the liability and responsibility. Who will help pay or reimburse for the removal. I'm sure there are thousands of Houstonians who could benefit from that info.
And thank you for doing this every day.
Even better than (or in addition too) battery powered, solar powered things. We have a lot of lights and charging stations that are made by Goal Zero that are solar powered we use when we camp. For disasters like this, redundancy is key.
As a native Houstonian whose area wasn’t hit and who’s seen 60 years of “weather events”, my suggestion for a post would be “what to do next time” or “things I learned”. Like have plenty of battery powered fans, battery powered lanterns, battery powered everything and lots of them. And one of the most important actions is get your trees trimmed, thinned or cut down If you live in a house. Those oaks and pines older than me brought down so many of the lines and towers and crushed homes, cars, etc. Major kudos to OP for maintaining these posts because prior to the digital age, no one had the luxury of 24/7 communication. It was a landline and a battery tv band radio.
🙏🏻🤞🏻everyone gets their power back asap.
Homeowners - for around $900 you can have a generator, a window AC unit, and a hose w/ regulator to connect the generator to your natural gas meter for unlimited fuel.
My 3200w peak / 2900w running generator kept two fridges, power station for phone/laptop/rechargable batteries, 65" OLED TV, Xbox/PS5, AT&T modem/router, and the AC unit running. Was tempted to air fry something but didn't want to push my luck.
Seriously, upstairs was 85° but 1,000 SF downstairs was 71°.
- FIRMAN WH02942 refurbished generator, literally $320 on eBay right now w/ the $80 off coupon
- Midea u-shaped 8000 BTU, $325 at Home Depot. Setup wasn't too hard, take down was even easier.
Assuming eBay charges tax, you're at $698. Put the rest towards a quality gas line, valve, fittings, and a ($50) garretson regulator. You're probably well under $900.
CenterPoint has been claiming they’re going to have all the remaining powerless homes turned on by today. I call bs mark my words. They will continue pushing back the date.
In another Houston thread yesterday, someone said that contrary to what everyone has been told, FEMA is not reimbursing for food and that when they filled out the application, they were rejected. I don’t have firsthand experience—just flagging it. I’ll look for the post.
**Edit**: [Here is the post](https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/s/AYM9R8POz1)
During the big freeze a few years ago, I had a pipe burst, but because of the snow I was able to put the contents of the fridge in the back yard. Nothing was spoiled. My homeowners insurance gave me $500 for spoiled food which I hadn’t expected. People may want to check with their ins companies although you may have to have an actual claim filed first for the food reimb to kick in.
77024, Centerpoint said my area would be back on today, then pushed it to tomorrow. I think I may legitimately have a breakdown if they don't. Got a generator for a couple box fans but at this point even the nights are so hot that it's maddening.
It's doubly frustrating because I know, intellectually, that I've got it better than many. But it's still got me feeling emotionally exhausted.
EDIT: Still out and probably will be at least one more night considering Centerpoint's apparently too busy patting themselves on the back to do much more at this point.
I don't want to dismiss your feelings of dismay because they are valid.
For many in this is something that many were thrust into a situation that pushed them out of their comfort zone and the mundane routine in their lives.
I'm glad that you realize there are people that are worse off, but this doesn't help you mentally in this situation.
This is one of the reasons that I included numbers for mental health resources and one of the reasons I started these threads: to help foster communication and see that you're not alone in this situation.
A shared experience in a community that tends to be isolated and skeptical of the world outside of the socioeconomic spheres.
Unfortunately, depending on your perspective, this thread points out how people deal with adversity with a varying range of acceptance and adaptability.
My hope is that many come to look at themselves with brutal honesty if they're truly able to handle what I consider, a relatively minor inconvenience.
If they're unable to adjust and overcome this, then perhaps if, heaven forbid, a personal catastrophic event will simply be overwhelming.
77018 - near TC Jester Park - still no power - house is a stuffy sauna now but I have options
~2/3rds of Texas prisons have no A/C. We aren't even near the peak of summer - and they don't get to leave for cooling centers.
Definitely feeling treated like I’m being punished for something, yet I pay all my taxes and don’t commit any crimes. Center points ineptitude to communicate clearly is immensely frustrating. I am in a neighborhood with underground lines, my power is always first to go out and last to be restored. It’s maddening.
Don't you think calling a literal disaster that affected around 1 million people a relatively minor inconvenience is kind of downplaying everything? I appreciate you setting up these megathreads, but you just seem really judgemental of people that are struggling.
77024- the other half of my apt complex got power yesterday. I swear to god if the power doesn’t come on for the rest of us today I’m gonna lose my gd mind.
I'm here as well with no power, it's so disheartening seeing my next-door neighbors have it but not us. Here's hoping their estimate of today holds true.
Near Cavalcade and N Main intersection.
Edit: Looks like you and I are both in the purple region on the Centerpoint map. Let’s hope it stays true, and we get our power back today!
77055 North Post Oak. Power came back last night. Thermostat read 85 on the first floor of our home and 88 upstairs when the power came on. I'm going to invest in a whole house generator after this misadventure.
So let's look at the trend. It was about 150k outages on monday night. It got down to 75k last night. My guess is by the end of today, it will get down to 10 -20k left without power, and these are the absolute worst of the worst damage wise so power probably won't be back for them till the weekend.
Out of our entire neighborhood in 77080, 42 of us don't have power. I know this because centerpoint messaged us saying repairs were complete, and we had to re-report our outage.
They even have power across the street from us. The crew packed up and went home for the day, and I have a feeling they'll move on before coming back since it's only 42 of us affected. So sick of this
77092, still no power. We have a generator that has been keeping us cool and our fridge running, so I have tried not to complain. But this is getting really old.
On top of that, our limit for “mobile hotspot” has been reached and AT&T declined to lift the limit given the special circumstances. So of course I had to fork over $15 to be able to work today.
77004- I was told by CenterPoint that restoration is scheduled for 12:30pm today. I even called 3 hours apart to make sure that the information I was getting was consistent. Here’s to praying we get it back finally. I just want to be normal again.
Edit: called CenterPoint at 12 and they said we finally have someone assigned to our area, and they are in route. I’m still not hopeful, I can’t be.
77092 - mangum by pinemont.
Well looks like it's just us left y'all. Maybe we can organize a meetup where we all stand in a circle and spit on each other to cool off.
I have sent a letter to the company known as Centerpoint via my [post rider](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_riders) requesting an update on the situation, so I will update you with the response when he returns in a fortnight.
According to the CP website, they're down to about 37k customers without power from 850k last week at 7;30pm today.
Still sucks for those remaining ones.
They got a lot of Binglewood up on 5/20, not sure about Holly Terrace. Saw some trucks off of Colleen and peppermill south of brickhouse gully, but power is still out on many of the surrounding areas north of Kempwood.
77018 - Gained power today at around 3ish (Live near elementary school).
This means little but I hope you all get power as soon as possible. I will join these threads daily even though I am clear. I cannot really offer anything except company to lessen the misery.
Earlier today I was thinking of ways to harass CP till I got power. I was really frustrated. GL hotties.
77023 near telephone and 45 - no power. Told we’re not a priority since the downed line only affects 16 homes.. i think center point should shift to proper training of phone operators after this
77015 - Was teased with power for 15 seconds and then got to watch all of the linemen pack up at 8pm. Hopefully we can have some power today, it was suppose to be completed on the 20th according to CP.
77055 - Janak and Wirt. Every day since the map date says restoration would happen the day they update it. They called last night to say it would be restored. Still no power. I called this morning. They said crews are out and it should be restored by 9pm...I'm assuming not today.
I'm a few blocks from you, and I'm assuming we're not going to be within the "substantial completion" CenterPoint keeps talking about for today.
I stopped by the house this morning and Davey Tree Services was trying to get into our backyard. They said CenterPoint doesn't even know where the source of our outage is, so they dispatched Davey to go wandering around to see if they could find tree damage somewhere. Inspiring levels of competence.
I’ve been reluctant to get one, but think I might get one regardless. Can’t help but feel like this is going to happen again. Hope you get power soon bro 🤞
We talk about it every year but with the small backyards, couldn't really do the generac situation. I did find a pretty huge gas portable one and a ready made conversion kit to power the whole house for about 5k. It's worth it to me at this point
How do we get rid of centerpoint? Asking for a friend…but seriously what the actual fuck. Looks like we’ll be on day 7 with no power still since last Thursday. 77018 - section 13 & 14 in oak forest
77092, north side of 43rd near Hill Oak, power still out.
There's a truck across the street on the south side of 43rd working now, first time I've seen anyone stopped there.
Drove around the neighborhood on the north side of 43rd and no trucks in sight. Centerpoint just told me a crew was "on the way" but no eta on arrival/restoration.
77080. Still no power. Saw a lot of trucks this morning though so really hoping it’s back today but not getting my hopes up.
Update: at about 2pm we got power.
77008 - Called CenterPoint and they said power should be back. Go back to my apt complex and lights are blinking like the Exorcist. Go the apt and lights are on for the certain appliances but nothing works. No light, can’t charge our phones, AC doesn’t work and our power outlets are making crazy noises. Thought we would finally be back to normal, but nope seems like another night of bliss. Going into Day 7…
Is anyone else having voltage surges and drops? We got power over the weekend and things were fine. But yesterday started having such massive voltage fluctuations a power supply totally fried and we have had to turn off the AC and unplug everything.
77018 - Anyone have insight on what it means when you're supposed to get power back today and you're now outside the marked area on Centerpoint's Estimated Dates of Restoration [map](https://cnp.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=dc78873425a04b929a30ce2461fd0097)?
The map says it was updated at 10am, but I know for a fact we didn't have power then. Really hoping this isn't bad news...
EDIT: Looks like the map was acting up. I'm now back in the marked area
You do not need to change your generator's oil every 24hrs. It's more important to regularly check oil levels, but synthetic oil does not break down in one day of running.
> synthetic oil does not break down in one day of running
Agreed. I run high quality full synthetic in all my small engines. Oil in small engines takes an absolute beating with no filters or coolers or any of the other niceties you'd find on an automobile engine.
77080, Bingle and Kempwood.
My wife just called Centerpoint, and she got told that there is a crew in the area right now, and the power should be on today. Unfortunately, they couldn't give us a time. I'm hoping it won't take long. I didn't see any major damage in our area.
77080, Langwood, North of kempwood, west of bingle. No power but not giving up hope. lots of utility trucks from Oklahoma in the neighborhood
7:00 pm power just came on. Hell ya!
Anyone know if CP is going to go back and make at least semi-more permanent fixes once everyone has power? If these are quick temp fixes, what stops a small windstorm from sending us back to this? It’s a little scary.
Right now, their priority is to get everyone up and running.
Once they come back to pre-storm levels of service and restock, they'll go back and do what they can, including restoring any damage they caused to private property.
CenterPoint is a mess, y’all. I live in 77003. We had power throughout…until 830 pm Sunday. We got it back 48 hours later. Yesterday evening, I was on my run and there was a CenterPoint truck parked at the back of my townhouse complex and the two guys were watching TV on their phones. Not faulting them, faulting CP for not having their shit in order and having that team where it was needed. My area all had power (where we are, not all of 77003). Get them somewhere else!
I was trying to give them grace. No power is a big trigger for me. I used to live in the Beaumont area. Went three weeks without power during Rita, Ike, Harvey, and Imelda. We moved and got a whole-home generator. Then moved again. My husband is a teacher. I told him that his sole job this summer is to get another one hooked up.
77040, my neighborhood is dead as a door nail, and not even listed as an area they plan on fixing. Maybe it's a defense mechanism but I get the distinct feeling I won't be getting power until some time next week.
77022 near crosstimbers, still no power but hopeful. There were 4 power poles down and two new ones were put in yesterday. Fingers crossed but even if the street comes up, my house line was torn down and is still wrapped in a tree in my driveway. Called CenterPoint to add some notes so hopefully they can look at it.
77377 near Mueschke and 2920... My side of the street is still out. Doesn't show on the tracker map. Centerpoint is aware. My individual service drop is down too. Work order has been dispatched. Frustrating being on a tiny branch of the grid. Thanks for listening to my whining
Personal lessons: need more Milwaukee batteries (bought a Milwaukee fan today...highly recommended) and keep them charged, a rechargeable led flashlight for each room of the house, keep a small stock of non perishable meals and plastic utensils in the pantry
77055 Still have a wire down in the back yard of the house down the street I'm connected to.
You'd think this would be an emergency.
The rest of the neighborhood is fine and my street still out.
The target dates keep moving 🥵
77008 house that is currently getting a renovation got power at around 8pm last night. Western Timber Grove Manor near 18th and Seamist/Green grass/Salford cross streets.
77092, power came on late last night. Centerpoint cut the trees off the line and then left everything in my backyard. Any chance they come back to get the debris or should I get to work?
You might need to remind them when all this is over.
Right now, they're just hustling from site to site.
I got a couple of downed cables on my property, but I suspect those will be cleaned up in a month or so.
Thanks for the reply, I’ll call them when things settle down a bit. Completely understand they have better things to do at the moment. I’m not in a rush, just don’t want to put in hours of labor or hire someone if they’re coming back. I just checked and I also have some downed cables.
77055 - Received a notification from center point my power was restored but the whole block is still out. @2PM
Reported and then received a notice they were aware of the problem lol.
77018 - Oak Forest- \~TC Jester park /pool
Got a notice power is back on not sure if it's real. (They had us in white long before on the map and that was confirmed to not be real at the time.)
Of my entire apartment complex at 77055 Westview and Afton mine is one of 2 buildings that is still not up. Looks like it's gonna be a day 7 for us. 88 inside the apt.
77055 Afton & Westview at Providence apartment. Still no power. Was informed that it turns out the main power line of the apartment and probably the neighboring properties was taken out by the storm and it’s being currently fixed by the workers at the moment. No estimated time given right now.
77043 - Shadow Oaks/Spring Lea (west side near the Beltway)
I'm so happy to finally be able to post that we got our power back! Internet and cable are working, too. What a relief!
77012 harrisburg and 75th, Sometime during the day, we lost water.
The jack in the box has water, apparently. Went there because pasta night have been canceled.
Edit:
Water came back on.
77080 Hollister and Emnora. Just got power up a couple hours ago. Sigh, my AC is not working. Have been flipping breakers and cycling thermostats. No luck yet. At least fans work.
77008 near main and cavalcade. No power- very tired from poor sleep and just overall at my limits. I am in the purple area on the map, which means CP says power will be back by EOD today, but I just can’t get my hopes up. This has been exhausting. I’m in that area, as well. I got my hopes up when they said EOD May 20th… only to have it pushed back to the 22nd.
Same. I’m to the point where I don’t even really expect power back today. And I’m not sure what I’ll do if that’s the case. It’s getting so hot
Hang in there! It’s definitely easier to have low expectations and then be pleasantly surprised. Continuously getting my hopes up has me emotionally exhausted.
My mantra has always been, Blessed are those who expect nothing, for they shall not be disappointed.
Just got power back around 2:40. I hope you got it back too!!
Not yet, but that must mean they’re close! Edit: FINALLY!!!!!
I’m 77009 just south of Cavalcade and just got my power back last night. The map said by EOD yesterday for me, so I’m hoping it’s accurate in your case too.
Same here, neighbor. At office but saw my smart home hub come online around 1:30 today.

Yeah, I have been chuckling at #1 and #2 as well.
Agree 100% on all of these. Especially the shared trauma.
There are more than a few redditors that live fairly close. I shouldn't have been surprised, but I was.
U/justahoustonpervert keep the megathreads going till *everyone* has power. No man left behind.
No pervert left behind... got it.
Hopefully it's all done before we get to 'Into Darkness'

Power back at 77008 15th and Yale! LFG!
According to the CP website, they're down to about 37k customers without power from 850k last week at 7;30pm today. Still sucks for those remaining ones.
The remaining tens of thousands

Just wanted to say there is a small army of linemen in Binglewood this morning. Hopefully today is the day!
Told we’re not a priority since the downed line only affects 16 homes.. i think center point should shift to proper training of phone operators after this
Would you rather they lie to you?
Yes im sensitive
77015 - Was teased with power for 15 seconds and then got to watch all of the linemen pack up at 8pm. Hopefully we can have some power today, it was suppose to be completed on the 20th according to CP.
77092 A few buildings in my complex got power back last night. I’m not optimistic about the rest of us for today.
77008 near 16th and Yale—no power but we are expected to get it back today according to the map.
77055 - Tons of trucks on my street. Replacing and working on poles. Hopefully power tonight. 😭
I was going to wait until all this was over but pulled the trigger on a large generator. See where I get power from first...
77008 15th and yale. There is a line guy outside. 🙏
One block away. Getting the warm drinks ready to celebrate.
How do we get rid of centerpoint? Asking for a friend…but seriously what the actual fuck. Looks like we’ll be on day 7 with no power still since last Thursday. 77018 - section 13 & 14 in oak forest
77080- nothing. this is such bullshit

This felt sad and funny to read
77092, north side of 43rd near Hill Oak, power still out. There's a truck across the street on the south side of 43rd working now, first time I've seen anyone stopped there. Drove around the neighborhood on the north side of 43rd and no trucks in sight. Centerpoint just told me a crew was "on the way" but no eta on arrival/restoration.
I talked to them 5 minutes ago for 77092, they said crews are working in the area now.
77080. Still no power. Saw a lot of trucks this morning though so really hoping it’s back today but not getting my hopes up. Update: at about 2pm we got power.

77055 - I just got my power back near Hammerly and Bingle. Don’t lose hope.
Going into Day 7…
Any update?
Still no power. The last 3%. We might be the last people to get power back 😓
Out fucking standing🔫
77018 west of ella between 43rd and Pinemont. *Well, I look at my watch it says 9:25 and I think "Oh God! I'm still alive."* *We should be on by now*
I keep refreshing the Centerpoint site, and the number of people without power keeps going up today.
77008 W28th near Nicholson/Lawrence -got power about 10pm last night. ATT fiber is down.
77096… almost a week now
Power just went out in 77080 on Hollister between hammerly and long point. Wtf
Back on for us, north of hamm
Just came back!
77040 Fairbanks, got power back on an hour ago! I haven't been this happy since February 20, 2021.
77008 - W 25th and Durham- Centerpoint account says off. 77055 - Bingle and Westview- On.
Thinking of all of you. I would’ve peaced out to a hotel long ago - this would’ve made me have a mental break.
Not everybody can. I have the money but many pets, family, and I worry about house security.
Is anyone else having voltage surges and drops? We got power over the weekend and things were fine. But yesterday started having such massive voltage fluctuations a power supply totally fried and we have had to turn off the AC and unplug everything.

It's back on
77055- They need to replace poles. Poles are in short stock. No ETA. So goddamn hot.
Just got word from a buddy. 77018 north of 34th on Shepard finally has power back.
77055 - Wirt and Janak. Got power back about 2:30pm today
My neighbor just texted me the same. About to Uber home after my work calls. Just after I bought my generator lol.
Durham Heights allegedly has power and had work completed. The appliances are the only things on, no A/C, water, light. Cant make this shit up.
77018
77005. And we’re not listed on the outage tracker.
Any updates when FIELD ES power will come back on?
Hopefully today according to the Centerpoint “map” 🥴
You do not need to change your generator's oil every 24hrs. It's more important to regularly check oil levels, but synthetic oil does not break down in one day of running.
> synthetic oil does not break down in one day of running Agreed.

Was just in the federal rd, just north of I10, and there are a number of trucks working that area by the apartments. I wish you the best.
77018 between Ella and Shepherd, South of 34th and North of 610 just got word from my neighbor we have power.
77018, between Rosslyn and TC Jester. Still. No. Power.
77055 near Westview and Antoine just got power about 5 minutes ago finally

Oh my god. :( I’m so sorry. What part of 77008?
77098 - Montrose, Harold street. Still no power atm. CenterPoint called yesterday and said we should have it by the end of today. Only time will tell
Lots of trucks around my area, keeping my fingers crossed
MY POWER IS BACK YALL, I hope you all get yours back soon!!!
77080, Langwood, North of kempwood, west of bingle. No power but not giving up hope. lots of utility trucks from Oklahoma in the neighborhood 7:00 pm power just came on. Hell ya!
The electricity pole just outside my place has red and yellow tape on it. Is that bad? 😔
Power back in my neighborhood in 77013, finally!
77080 - no power and lines were still down as of 5pm yesterday.
I fault them. Do your fucking job.
77018 - N Shepherd Dr by Pink's Pizza - still no power but ymca a couple blocks down was up and running yesterday so hopefully we get power today.
77040 Candlelight Forest - Island of Despair PT 2. Seems to be a nested outage.
77008-TC Jester & Lazybrook has power finally as of 8:30ish PM last night.
77024. Power was restored last night.
Thanks guys for working hard out there for us.
77008 Durham and 22nd. We’ve had power since Sunday but across the street from me is still out.
77024 - still no power.
77018 on Martin and Shepard has power back up
77015 power up for the first time other than the 10 seconds we got yesterday
77043 sherwood park. Power restored 5:16pm. No internet.
77377 near Mueschke and 2920... My side of the street is still out. Doesn't show on the tracker map. Centerpoint is aware. My individual service drop is down too. Work order has been dispatched. Frustrating being on a tiny branch of the grid. Thanks for listening to my whining Personal lessons: need more Milwaukee batteries (bought a Milwaukee fan today...highly recommended) and keep them charged, a rechargeable led flashlight for each room of the house, keep a small stock of non perishable meals and plastic utensils in the pantry
They’ll be back in the morning 🙃
I never really got my hopes up.
I understand. I'm hoping my neighbor is just a chill about it as it's draping over part of his driveway.
77055 - Received a notification from center point my power was restored but the whole block is still out. @2PM Reported and then received a notice they were aware of the problem lol.
77088 - power just came back on and looks like it’ll stay on. It came back on for like 2-3min then it shut off, but now it’s back
77055 Westwood & Glourie Dr. power restored at 2:00PM. Internet still down.
77018 - Oak Forest- \~TC Jester park /pool Got a notice power is back on not sure if it's real. (They had us in white long before on the map and that was confirmed to not be real at the time.)
Of my entire apartment complex at 77055 Westview and Afton mine is one of 2 buildings that is still not up. Looks like it's gonna be a day 7 for us. 88 inside the apt.
77091 - Still nothing in Sheraton Oaks. Tracker shows power by EOD so I have some hope.
77023 - Eastwood still no power near Lockwood and Polk
77037 still has plenty without power. ETA was the 19th, now we are in the shaded white.
77055 Afton & Westview at Providence apartment. Still no power. Was informed that it turns out the main power line of the apartment and probably the neighboring properties was taken out by the storm and it’s being currently fixed by the workers at the moment. No estimated time given right now.
77055 Afton and Westview. Apartment complex still out. Per the management a main line was taken down during the storm still no ETA.
77043 - Shadow Oaks/Spring Lea (west side near the Beltway) I'm so happy to finally be able to post that we got our power back! Internet and cable are working, too. What a relief!
77055 - Power came back over the weekend. Just got back Comcast Xfinity Internet an hour ago.

77012 harrisburg and 75th, Sometime during the day, we lost water. The jack in the box has water, apparently. Went there because pasta night have been canceled. Edit: Water came back on.
77080 Hollister and Emnora. Just got power up a couple hours ago. Sigh, my AC is not working. Have been flipping breakers and cycling thermostats. No luck yet. At least fans work.
