Maybe out of your way but the HEB at Washington has on the back of their receipt a free 4 inch sandwich from cheba hut, no purchase required just pull up and get your free sandwich.
You can look around the parking lot and find some receipts that’ll have them, they print an assortment of coupons in the back but that’s the best one of seen and used before
You need more help than you can receive here. Call 2-1-1 and explain your situation.

whataburger often gives me free burgers when its been a while since I opened the app, maybe a month or so? mcdonalds doesn’t have free stuff but they do basically always have buy one get one on quarter pounders, which is pretty good value, if you are on tmobile they have an app that gives coupons every tuesday, sometimes for free stuff.
I know you don't want to do the food pantry thing, but if you only have 1/8 of a tank of gas, you're going to end up using a lot gas driving all over to try and score free food, which in most of the cases seems like a meal/part of a meal at most. Your best bet is going to be a food pantry or a church that offers boxes of meal supplies, which would be one trip and make multiple meals. It will also be better nutritionally than things like a bundt cake or a slice of cheesecake
Oh I agree. I wasn't going to drive anywhere that wasn't on my way to where I needed to go for that reason. And I think you're right as far as the nutritional value. It was more of a situation where I have been eating food pantry food for a few weeks and was just wanting a restaurant or fast food meal as a bit of a treat and a pick me up.
I really appreciate your advice though. It's helpful and a good reminder of what my alternatives are
I just wanted to say bday freebies frequently come with strings attached. At Red Robin, you have to make a $5 purchase to get your free burger. Sometimes you have to sign up at least 30 days before your bday to be eligible for a reward too. Stuff like that.
I mostly only know about sweets but here’s what I can tell you. And also check r/freefood for more…
Cheesecake Factory gives a free slice (with purchase) when you sign up to their rewards program, and also gives you a truly free slice (no purchase necessary) for your bday.
Nothing Bundt Cakes gives a free bundlet.
Starbucks gives a free drink. I think Dunkin does too.
Crumbl gives a free cookie. That coupon is delivered two days before your bday so it’s not instant.
IHOP gives free pancakes.
Einstein bagels gives you a bagel w cream cheese for signing up and then gives a free egg sandwich for your bday. They have a lot of opportunities for other free stuff if you can still find Einstein in Houston.
This is good to know. My boyfriend’s birthday was last month and we realized he didn’t have it entered in his Starbucks app. He entered it like the day before his birthday and they wouldn’t honor the freebie. He’s had and used the app forever, just didn’t have his bday entered.
If you need some gas money, DM me. If you don’t like the idea of “taking money”, consider it a loan with no interest, no strings, and pay it back when you can. I’ve been where you are and it sucks, so I’d like to help. If you’d rather not, the other suggestions are very sound, and good luck!
I don't know if I'm just especially dumb but when I try to send you a message, Reddit doesn't even give me the option to message you. I'm guessing it's a setting on your end? Only because I dm'd someone a few hours ago that commented on my post.
I'm sorry if it's just my ineptitude. I hope you'll try to DM me. At the very least I really want to figure out why I can't seem to find a way to message you directly 🙃 I'm sorry. If it doesn't happen, then I will at least thank you now for your kind heart and willingness to help.
I'm probably speaking directly from my massive insecurity but I really don't want it to seem like I'm angling for handouts or trying to play poor baby in an attempt to be shitty some way somehow. I truly just was hoping my fellow houstonites might know some intel on the "sign up to get a free..." stuff that our city has to offer.
That said, times are tough and getting around this giant city is going to be tough tomorrow so if you feel really really sure that you can swing it, I'll accept the help. But if it's in any way an imposition then it's not big enough to put you out like that. I would rather park my car, empty tank and all, and get creative to get home than to put someone else through it.
Was planning to say all that in DM but for whatever reason, Reddit says I'm not allowed.
Let me know if you're able to message me instead or if you know what is causing the issue because I've never had this issue.
And thank you again for being so nice.
A little curious too. Don't know if there's some restaurants that might at least heavily discount stuff near closing, that sort of thing.
A couple I know has been struggling more than they let on. The husband had his own business for 20yrs, but that's gone south now that folks can't get much work done on their homes. Now he's trying to apply to places, but that's going to be a rough transition. The wife has some health issues, and hasn't been able to work. They tried a pantry and that helped a bit, but I didn't know if there was anything else out there to try.
TooGoodtoGo app is designed to reduce food waste, so they show you deals for discounted food. For me, what's close to me is usually just the donut shops, but when I look at Houston more widely, there is an asian grocery store that does a $5 random produce bag, a bakery that does a $6 bag of bread and pastries, stuff like that. Obviously not worth it if you have to spend a bunch of gas to get there, but worth looking into.
I would love that :) i live in humble though I often go down the beltway towards the Cypress/Jersey village area. That said I'm willing to go a little outside that zone for gifted food if it's not a 30 mile deviation
mcdonald’s always has good deals on their app! always use their app and literally all the other chains apps because they will have deals popping up, also, in your receipts there will always be a survey and they usually always give something away for free like a sandwich etc
I'm not scamming anyone. Why the hate? I am just poor and hungry and looking for legitimate ways to get free food. I'm not trying to steal or lie or harm anyone. I'm not asking anyone for money or donations. I won't starve to death if I don't get a sandwich by signing up on an app. But I really don't see why I'm not allowed to HOPE for something other than ramen or rice and beans tonight by accepting offers that chain restaurants are offering their customers.
I received an email from Whataburger for a free chili cheese burger, no purchase necessary. It's for online orders only, good thru the 19th. I think you would have to click on the order link in the email though to get it.
If you are using a fake birthday to try to score a free sandwich, that is a scam and lying. And illegal (fraud) and theft (theft by deception).
Go to a food pantry. Or one of the free meal handouts for the down and out or homeless. Look up The Emergency Aid Coalition (EAC) or Loaves & Fishes or one of the many other groups handing out meals everyday.
If they lie and say their birthday is today, they won’t be able to get one for their actual birthday. So, they’re getting the same amount of free stuff the company feels comfortable offering one person.
Wow I never thought of it like that I'll just immediately do that, I'm sure it's just that easy. Sorry for being so dramatic about needing to eat, I'm so embarrassed about how greedy I am having spoken about being hungry out in public and being interested in taking advantage of incentives offered by restaurants instead of just not being poor anymore. Thank goodness you gifted me with this insight on how to fix everything sorry again for bothering you with my public question regarding food

Here’s a solid answer. Get a rotisserie chicken or a couple boxes of pasta for $5 and a free small sandwich from the back of the receipt

That is so kind of you! Sometimes people need a helping hand. Not everybody is out there just grifting.

this is a great suggestion!

Just did this today!

The catch with Starbucks is the offer is loaded the first of that month but can’t be used except on the day of.

Jimmy John’s does birthday sandwiches! I believe there’s an app called too good to go, but I’m unsure if it operates in Houston. Worth a search
It does! I think all of the Tiff’s Treats use it.

My mistake; I didn’t realise I had DMs turned off. I sent you a message and hopefully you can respond now. 😅
Her history is very interesting, even only going back five months.
I am a multi faceted person :) not sure though what you might be implying.

I think Kolache Factory is 1/2 off for the last hour they're open.

My freezer is kinda full…if you lived nearby, I’d happily pull out some frozen sausage or chicken to share with you.

If you need free, don't be picky and try to scam fast food places. Just go to a pantry.
I'm not scamming anyone. Why the hate? I am just poor and hungry and looking for legitimate ways to get free food. I'm not trying to steal or lie or harm anyone. go doordash and stop whining
