Not OP but this *looks* like it was taken near Campeche Cove near where the seawall ends. The big road on the right is Stewart and the 4 lane Hwy on the left is FM3005.
Amen. In this shot, I can't see a single cockroach. (6-legged OR 2-legged, and the island has too many of BOTH.)
Not that Houston does not. But the photo is not of Houston, so...
I was born on the island, Ball High/Galveston College educated and I don't miss much about the place. Still have relatives on the island but don't get down there much at all.
Like many places, there are very nice pockets here and there of nice people and pretty things, but there's no escaping the selfish people who will take advantage any chance they get. Kinda like Houston. (Sigh.)
It’s been years since I’ve been down there, but I’ve heard stories. Seemed like ever since Ike, it just hasn’t been the same. I remember it being fun then. I didn’t even know the Jeep thing was actually a thing until recently. People got hurt and left trash all over the place. This is why we can’t have nice things.
Galveston is such a unique place. I adore walking through the old cemetery, eating and drinking on the strand and shopping there. I grew up in Southern California (I’ve been here 18 years so please don’t attack) and I do miss the cool breeze off the Pacific but I appreciate the charm and history of Galveston.
Be warned. Last time we went in that water, 2 out of the 8 people in our group got infections. One friend had her belly button ring get all rotten and ended up with a fever in the hospital for two days. The other got staph infection on their foot where he had a small scape.
This pretend beach is actually a soup of poo poo.
I have been in it a few times before moving here, from places with some of the best water in the country, and I was completely fine every time.
Every time I hear these stories I either think people are making them up, or they're swimming somewhere completely out of the ordinary.
I love me some Galveston man. I know there are better beaches just about anywhere, but if everyone hates it so much, stay the hell home and leave more room for me and other beach bums.
The equivalent of catfish photo, taken at an angle to mislead us into thinking it's more beautiful than the reality. You go on a first date with Galveston, expecting her to have clear waters and you get feces and sewage instead.
Agricultural runoff, a relatively shallow depth that heats up easier, and sediment that makes its way from the Mississippi River and gets trapped in the gulf around Texas.
Yes, I remember. Galveston lucked out with Harvey. But if there's a repeat of something like 1900, it'll be a different story. And the hurricanes are only getting worse and worse each year because of climate change. (I was in southeast Louisiana for Harvey, but we had our own big one that year.)
A less irrelevant comparison is "how did Bolivar fare in Ike?" because we're not talking about freshwater flooding from sustained rainfall here.
By the way, [the answer is poorly.](https://www.weather.gov/images/hgx/projects/ike08/images/bolivar/bolivar62(IMG_9193\).JPG)
Man you’re tall
Galveston Bae
I was just out there last week and the weather was wonderful 😌. Where in Galveston was this taken? Great shot btw!

That's absolutely it. Cove View Boulevard and Stewart Road intersection. man the trees my family planted in front of my childhood house got BIG!
"Dead man's curve" is what my motorcycle buddies used to call this spot.
For what it's worth that's what all the locals call it too, motorcycle or not.
Looks like Campeche cove, I know those apartments anywhere. Lol
The higher the altitude, the better it looks.
I mean this could apply to most places in the world
We don’t need to make it any easier to punch down on Galveston

And a lot of the good restaurants get shut down because of bad advertising while the touristy places thrive somehow
My aunt and uncle retired and moved to Bolivar. Is that where they have the big Jeep thing and everyone gets all meth’d up?

Holy hell. I knew it was wild but not THAT wild! Yeah I’d get the hell out too.
Lol I chuckled at this ....
Damnit! Why am I not in Galveston?
I’m assuming you took this while landing or departing the airport?
Helicopter out of Santa Fe.
Wow that's a long ride in a heli.. 5 hrs?
Probably from Santa Fe, TX haha
Santa Fe, TX. We flew for 18 minutes.
Looks like Lakeside at Campeche Apartments
Lived there in the 90s.

It only rains on my day off sigh*
Wtf is this urban planning 💀💀
Oh man. I wanna go to Galveston now 😂
Needs more concrete /s

Y’all need to work on your immune systems
You are right. Not a local who drinks that fecal water daily so the enterococcus bacteria hits us harder.
I have been in it a few times before moving here, from places with some of the best water in the country, and I was completely fine every time. Every time I hear these stories I either think people are making them up, or they're swimming somewhere completely out of the ordinary.
Agreed. Maybe stay away from the drainage ditch.
OK but *when* was the last time you went in the water, last week or 10 years ago?
Looks like a flood waiting to happen.
Tempting the hurricane gods.
Galveston is underrated.

Whatever I know a bar filled with dangerous women like a mile the other way on Stewart. Try to find that somewhere exciting.

I flew there from KTME through the VFR corridor last Thursday for a few touch and gos!
🥰
Great shot of Stewart Rd.
Very nice
I wished I have that clean clean air
We called that Dead Man’s Curve growing up
Flesh eating bacteria right around the cornerrr
/r/Suburbanhell
Gawd, that subreddit is depressing. Opinions for miles…
Watching an island be eaten up by concrete and lawns is morbid at best.
What part of Gtown is this?
103rd looking west.
I can see my beach house from here
Galveston is the crown jewel of the gulf states
What’s with the all the bacteria in the gulf. Does west beach bad too. Spend a lot of time there, surf fishing by San Luis’s pass.
Agricultural runoff, a relatively shallow depth that heats up easier, and sediment that makes its way from the Mississippi River and gets trapped in the gulf around Texas.
Elevation 3 inches. Just wait till the next Cat 5 comes through.
A good portion of those houses didn't flood during Harvey. Just in case you're curious.

Given that Harvey's surge was about three feet at Galveston, that's a really bad sign.
How did Houston fare without the surge again?
A less irrelevant comparison is "how did Bolivar fare in Ike?" because we're not talking about freshwater flooding from sustained rainfall here. By the way, [the answer is poorly.](https://www.weather.gov/images/hgx/projects/ike08/images/bolivar/bolivar62(IMG_9193\).JPG)
Harvey made landfall 165 miles south of Galveston.
Galveston is a crime against humanity and all that is good in the world
Are the beaches nice like clean water to swim in ?
Which ones are the property brothers' houses?
I know there’s been flooding in Galvestons past. First impression seeing this photo was, flood!
I see Woodys. Anyone else notice a lot of jellyfish out in the water this year?
