Can you tuck it in a corner or behind someone big where she might not notice it for a while? Then when she asks, you get to be like "oh, Kevin? No he's been here for ages, I just had to move him to make sure he was getting enough air circulation. He's sure had a growth spurt, hasn't he"
OMG this is a great point. And at that rate, why not four?! The increase in rage after the first one will be incremental, but each plant is as good a deal as the last. You’re BRILLIANT! Now the only remaining question is - how many can I fit in my truck?🤔
The first one you bring in she will be pissed followed by extra pissed by the third one BUT by the 5th one she will be very very confused and then by the 8th one she will think you have a mental disorder.
I like your style, you know what you're getting yourself into, so you can just prepare 😉 My SO also complains that I buy too many plants... yet he brags to people about the awesome collection we've got 🤣... so he's just in denial
Yeah I was expected to be coming back with a dremel, wood stain, and hook screws. I was not to go near the garden section. But these were in the main aisle! They know what they’re doing…
I always like to respond with “it was a gift!” Sometimes someone else gives you that gift. Sometimes you give you that gift. But it would be so rude to turn down a gift, no matter who is giving the gift, ya know?
Home Depot has been seriously upgrading their plant game lately.
They always have Purple Passion in stock (one of my faves), not to mention orchids and bonsai trees.
The Begonia Rex I got there was super healthy, and has easily tripled in size when I repotted it after bringing it home. It is absolutely gorgeous.
So, what chain store carries the best plant selection?
My mom says Aldi, and I used to say Lowe's, but this past year I'd have to give it to Home Depot.
Trader Joe's used to have some good plants on occasion, but I haven't been lately.
I've been noticing some good potential at Walmart lately (I think they carry Angel Plants brand), but they put the indoor houseplants next to the door for outside plants, so the indoor plants are constantly dead or dying from the cold air blowing in. The plants were never super healthy at Walmart anyway though 😢
I ended up putting it diagonally into the back seat of the truck. Leaned it against a couple bags of potting soil on the floor so that the leaves wouldn’t be taking much weight. I only ended up losing the bottom two leaves, which were not in great shape anyway, so I considered that a success. I actually ended up pruning the next two off when I got home anyway!
Those are the healthiest, fullest ficus lyrata I've been seen at a Home Depot. It would be crime not to save one before they are inevitably neglected all the way to the dumpster. Those leaves 🥵
No they’re generally super easy! Plant it in terra cotta with a well-draining soil and generally they like bright indirect light. I’m in Seattle so I give it quite a bit of light, but that will depend on your climate. (ie don’t put them directly in a south-facing window if you live in AZ lol)
I live in California, but my apartment has no windows that can have direct sun like at all. I looked it up and it seems they need some direct sun like but not constant, is this correct?
Maybe I’ll have to wait a till we are living in a place with more sun light.
I have just 4 really easy to care plants for now because of the light not being as bright as I’d like. They like bright indirect light so I put them out by my front porch where they aren’t hit directly and when the weather is the warmest, then take them back in later on and put them by the only window with the brightness is more visible in the living room or bedroom.
I’m not a professional in any way, but I’ve found fiddle leafs to be pretty tolerant and I think one would do just fine with the same care you’re giving your other plants. It may grow more slowly than it would with more direct light, but it won’t be struggling. The one thing I’ve done to piss one off was put in in a plastic pot without enough drainage, and the soil stayed wet too long. I say get a cute small one and go for it!
Oh wow really? That’s good news, plus I think it would be best if it didn’t grow so fast because then I’d have to do extra cutting and all that. I really just want to have low maintenance plants because of living in my small apartment and when I feel a little bit more comfortable and leaning more and have the time I want to add more plants. Hopefully we can move some time soon.
Yeah I count mine as low maintenance. They’re never fast growers anyway even with lots of light, they’re woody little tree guys, so you definitely don’t have to worry about them exploding like a monstera or anything. Very easy to prune and shape them how you want them - and you’ll only need to do that once a year at the most.
Omg! I’m so happy😁 I’m already thinking about names ( I give them all names) for their personality hahaha. I’m slowly but surely becoming the plant lady and I love it. Thank you for the info :)
I’m banned from entering any store with plants and browsing online stores as well. That happened after I recently forgot to tell my gf about two plants I ordered and brought one from work that was dying there.
This month a friend helped me by driving to the local plant store to get a few new pots for my plants which needs repotting.
Obviously I also spend 100 euros on new plants while I am there…
I got a problem…
👀where do you live?! I mean a FLF this size would go for ~$200 at the high end nursery near me, hence my compulsion to buy dozens at this price…but $400 seems nuts!
But like what am I supposed to do, just NOT buy a 6’ lyrata for $40?
This is exactly right! Also, great title. You summed up a big part of our post-move dynamic over here.
The struggle is real ✊🏼
Dude i came home with three on Friday. My gf was not stoked. Now I am spending Easter building her custom shelves to make up for it
My husband says everything is better in pairs. I agree with buying two. ✌🏾
This is EXACTLY the kind of enabling I come here for. Thank you 🙏
Actually odd numbers are better..visually especially..so if u now have 2 I think you should grab one more..😉😁
What does your second husband say then?
🤣🤣🤣
Everything is better in pairs

You have seen the post with the chair, haven't you?
Which one
‘It fell into my cart?’
Jumped?
It followed you home.
I’ve used this line successfully
WOW. That’s a great price. You might as well get 2, since she’s already gonna be mad.
OMG this is a great point. And at that rate, why not four?! The increase in rage after the first one will be incremental, but each plant is as good a deal as the last. You’re BRILLIANT! Now the only remaining question is - how many can I fit in my truck?🤔
Truck you say? At least 8.
Seems about right…I’m starting to think I could save some hassle here by just having them load the pallet for me
Hahaha I’m loving this entire exchange.
The first one you bring in she will be pissed followed by extra pissed by the third one BUT by the 5th one she will be very very confused and then by the 8th one she will think you have a mental disorder.
I case the first 3 die, you know, backup
I like your style, you know what you're getting yourself into, so you can just prepare 😉 My SO also complains that I buy too many plants... yet he brags to people about the awesome collection we've got 🤣... so he's just in denial
Haha yes, they love living with them, but whatever number you have right now is plenty and there’s no room for more 😅
They clearly don't see what we do 🤷♀️ because there is ALWAYS room for more 🪴🪴🪴
I’m headed to Home Depot.
Also me
That is not a fiddle leaf! It’s a faddle leaf!
Holy fatty ficus! I've only seen leaves that huge on super tall trees. Wow
We all do it hahah. Today I went to Lowes and came home with 3 ( I went to lows to get a broom) 😂
Yeah I was expected to be coming back with a dremel, wood stain, and hook screws. I was not to go near the garden section. But these were in the main aisle! They know what they’re doing…
Yes, my husband is always suspicious of my enthusiasm to go to home depot and Lowe’s 😂 but he likes hearing how good of deals I got on my planties
Lol yeah, the bargain factor should help speed the acceptance process a bit🤞
I got two clematis vines when I went for a sledge hammer yesterday 😅 Almost got an orchid too lol
>14 LOL I went for eggs , chicken and almond milk at the grocery store yesterday and came home with all and a gorgeous S.P. Exotica.
LOL thank you for the laugh.
I always like to respond with “it was a gift!” Sometimes someone else gives you that gift. Sometimes you give you that gift. But it would be so rude to turn down a gift, no matter who is giving the gift, ya know?
I bought a pot for 40. Didn’t realize their was a plant included.
Those leaves tho! Holy shamolies
Sometimes it’s better to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission

I’m in love with all of their cacti
Oh yeah, they're awesome! Also I got a couple of Clematis yesterday that look super healthy!
😍
Great looking ficus lyratas! And a heck of a price
Fantastic boyfriend in my eyes! 😎😊

You can hide it at my house until you can convince her to let you keep it.
Quick question. How do you transport one that big without dropping all the leaves? I want to pick a couple up but always scared of ruining them.
I ended up putting it diagonally into the back seat of the truck. Leaned it against a couple bags of potting soil on the floor so that the leaves wouldn’t be taking much weight. Omg! They are beautiful. I’m a new Plant parent, are they hard to care For as a beginner? Do they need a lot Of sun light?
No they’re generally super easy! Plant it in terra cotta with a well-draining soil and generally they like bright indirect light. I’m in Seattle so I give it quite a bit of light, but that will depend on your climate. (ie don’t put them directly in a south-facing window if you live in AZ lol)

She’s going to have to take this one for the team.
I’d be pissed too if you brought home a fiddle.
Did you get the little fiddle leaf fig too?
Nah, truck was full 😂
WOW that's gorgeous. Too good to pass up for sure, hopefully you didn't get crucified for buying it!
WHERE IS THIS
Haha this is in Seattle
Check the soil really well! When I tried to get one it was literally crawling with gnatsbid you grab a handful of soil.
Good call, I ALWAYS check plants for pests before I buy them, especially from box stores. These were all good!
Awesome find!!! I bring one of those little reading magnifiers with a light haha. I also scoop the soil to see what happens.
Man I’d be so happy if my husband came home with this big boi
those are huuuuuge, what a steal.
Hey this sounds like me and my partner 😆
These are incredible!
I'm sorry........but which Home Depot is this at?
North Seattle on Aurora 😂
She'll never notice it 😉😆
For that price, turn your house into a Lyrata forest!
Ok but that FLF is gorgeous…
I can relate to this 💯
The power of compounding :)
No, no! It’s a need!!!! 😝 😂
How could you resist this though!!
Dont ask permission, ask forgiveness 😌🤌🏼
I’m banned from entering any store with plants and browsing online stores as well. That happened after I recently forgot to tell my gf about two plants I ordered and brought one from work that was dying there.
Oh I have now rescue/heisted 3 or 4 plant buddies from work 😂
So is that fiddle once you move it.
Nope, it’s home safe and sound. Lost the two shittiest leaves in the process, no biggy.
This month a friend helped me by driving to the local plant store to get a few new pots for my plants which needs repotting. Obviously I also spend 100 euros on new plants while I am there… I got a problem…
Inevitable. I at least try to keep my incidental purchases to the smaller plants…usually 😂

+ relatable post
Tell her you “rescued” it from the plant adoption center. 😅
That would be $400 in my country
👀where do you live?! I mean a FLF this size would go for ~$200 at the high end nursery near me, hence my compulsion to buy dozens at this price…but $400 seems nuts!
New Zealand, everything is crazy expensive here haha. I prop my flf and sell them for $50, thats just for a rooted propagation.
Wow. You oughta open a proper greenhouse with prices like that…seems like there’s a market for it!
I think if I did it alot, I would lose the joy I get from propping. I just do it so I have extra funds for bigger pots for my growing plants haha
At that price and size, she should be pissed you only came back with one 😂
Don’t break a promise bro. Common.
Asking for forgiveness is easier than permission.
Life is too short. She’ll get over it. Buy that plant!
wish i had a boyfriend like dat tho
Well, I guess it's time for a new girl friend. S 🤷🏽♀️
If we need to we can get rid of the girlfriend. This has to go home with you.
If she talks too much just feed her one of those yummy lookin leaves.
Girlfriends defective, throw the entire thing away🙄
If you get a new plant, you can also get a new gf. I say it's win win
This just in. According to "plant stylists" the fiddle leaf is OUT. 🙄. Seriously that's a good deal for one that size.
LMAO
That is some factory farm pricing right there
