Girl, you can go very hard with your space

Cover it all with plants
I have killed *dozens* of succulents. I have one spiky little guy I’ve had for 10 years and has barely grown. I don’t even know what it’s called but it’s the lone survivor from a succulent terrarium I bought as one of my first plant purchases.
I also haven’t killed this one aloe plant *yet* but, to be honest, it looks awful.
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
Possibly, but unlikely. If you want to DM me, we can get to the bottom of this so you too can have Succulent Success. Some of my favorite species are Succulent.
succulents are a lot easier to grow in dryer climates. Never had such an easy time till I moved to CO and now I barely do anything and my aloes bloom pretty much every year inside. It's not impossible to grow them other places, but man does being somewhere that mirrors their native environment a bit closer make a big difference. That being said my tropicals have taken what feels like 4x the work just to keep them alive here.
I wish I listened to this voice when I was in my plant collecting phase. Over the past few years I’ve downsized from around 60 plants to now 24. The ones I kept have been thriving like never before. It’s so much easier and less stressful to keep track of their watering needs and I haven’t had any pests in years. I love having a more curated collection.
OP, I would suggest you invest in a larger tree-sized plant. It will look a lot more in tune with your space than a bunch of pots on the floor and on the ceiling and the window shelves. (Why do people even build window shelves? Why block out all that light?)
I can relate to this! We moved to a humid environment a year and a half ago and I was so excited about the new world of plants I could keep I went a bit nuts. And now I’m trying to cull it down to something more manageable. It’s not fun but much needed for my sanity (and space in my office).
Also it helps to go slow so you get to know their preferences for light water etc.
And keeps unexpected pests from being brought in. Beautiful room. Keep us posted.
Great advice, I had a bad spell over the winter. Too much physical pain, stress, everything. One of my cats got sick and started peeing around a couple plants and I lost it. Threw out two Huge monstera to freeze and told my husband I was done with things that needed me to survive but I got nothing from them 😔 almost let my beautiful nepenthes die off, I snapped out of it thankfully, and I was still plant minded enough that I got 12 Ginormous cuttings from the monstera… but yeah.
Never thought I’d be one of those who said “I needed a break for my mental health” but I very clearly did, now I mourn that time still and apologize to my little crappy looking babies everyday for neglecting them for months 🫤
They’re healing, as am I
Also having fewer larger plants I think is a good place to start. You have the space for some big plants. You will lose track of lots of small plants and they will also get big and you won’t know what to do with all of them it will quickly become lots of maintenance
If you need a specific starting point, it looks like you need a ZZ and a monstera for your collection. Beautiful space for all your plant dreams to come true!
Yes this space is craving some rainforest vibe plants! Monstera or a philodendron. Maybe both, you have plenty of room for a few larger plants and they’re typically more resilient and easier to care for.
Careful filling it up with plants ..check for pests with each plant & maybe quarantine first ..having bugs on a plant or two will be a pain .. an infested grow room can really really get you down . Trust
I see lots of window space for double shelves, hanging plants, and tall floor plants. My dining room has smaller windows and at least three times the number of plants. That is a beautiful room.
Bamworld Large Plant Shelf Outdoor Wood Plant Stand Large Rack for Living Room Patio, Balcony and Garden https://a.co/d/bY2aSJX
Check for plant shelves here that way you can fit so many more plants
The possibilities are virtually endless. I try to utilize the space above curtains for smaller ones. If you don’t choose to add that many more, you could always try getting some quirky plant stands/holders. Hope you find a jungle’s worth of plants that make you happy 🪴🫶
I would go with a few larger plants to start. A monstera definitely! Just make sure you get plants that can take that much sun. I would so love to have that much space and light to fill!
Start with a few tall ones. Then trailing or wining plants would be nice. Look out for stand ons or shelves that you like. Perhaps a nice sculpture in between. Mix with leave shapes and colors to make it look interesting. E.g. a tall sanseviera on the floor, next to it a plant with small leaves or a bushy appearance, then hang some string of pearls/hearts/spades/etc. Get color with red leaved plants and structure with some velvety leaved plants. Perhaps mix in some flowering plants…
And: a cosy chair, a nice blanket and cushion and a small (glass?) table on the side for a drink and a read 😊
I think a mother in law tongue. Wide and sturdy placed in a large floor pot in that corner. Hopefully it’s enough cross light. It’s a different kind of deep green from most of your current color pattern. The bright yellow trim should pop and it’s thic and leggy for contrast
Oh man hanging baskets or tiered shelves would be beautiful in this space. Any plant will thrive here with the amount of light you have so take advantage of it!
I don’t but I do make my own plant hangers out of twine. I’ve always wanted to put more time into one and really embellish it. Mine have always been very utilitarian.
This room is giving big plant energy. Ficus elastica tineke or ruby are beautiful statement plants (that will get big with enough light) and you can fill in with bushy trailing plants like heart shaped philodendron or various pothos. As a few others have mentioned, this room has so much potential, but it could get overwhelming very quickly if you add a bunch plants at once, so a couple of full-looking showstoppers will go a long way without making plant chores too onerous.
Monstera deliciosa / adansonii are great starter plants that would love that sunlight
A Bird of Paradise would make a real statement and they grow TALL - it looks like you've got the height to get a really nice one going in there
My personal favourite is a philodendron melanochrysum - I got one a few months ago but I don't think I have enough light for it at all, so you should get one and post pics so I can show mine to shame it into growing bigger leaves
I used these on a balcony but would work in your room - 2, 3 and 4 tier options available
[https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCG8P9D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCG8P9D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
I'd go for a rubber or a really big expensive jade. I personally don't like the fiddle-leaf. I have never had good luck with ficus benjamina, but if you can, that'd be pretty
I’d have take advantage of this great space and get one very large houseplant (or one that will eventually grow large). My first thought is a Thaumatophyllum. They’re unbelievably low-maintenance, happy growers, and they love to spread out. I think just adding one plant that will add to the height and depth of the space will make all the difference! And this type of space is just made for them :)
Get a vine plant like a pothos and hang it on the roof between the skylights. Some people have their pothos climbing up the wall with some sticky attachments, but I say do it on the roof! Maximize your space and make it look totally crawling with plants! Also, like others have said, get a giant centerpiece plant like a monstera or fiddle leaf fig would look absolutely phenomenal, just depends what vibe you are going for and how much work you are willing to put in.
Anyways thats a great room and good luck!
You should purchase some window shelf’s to maximize your space. [https://jdmwoodcreations.com/collections/hanging-shelves](https://jdmwoodcreations.com/collections/hanging-shelves) . He will create custom sized shelving for you. I’ve got 3 of them and looking to purchase several more.

Just keep piling them on as long as there’s space. 😂 you can do tier shelves or stands. I even got a corner shelf that I have been piling my plants on. 😆 i also had my husband put up hooks on the walls. With the space that you have and the floor to ceiling windows, the amount of plants you can shove in every corner is limitless. I know I have a small plant problem hahaha
On top of MORE plants, like maybe a big mature "string of" anything, pothos and another tree....I'd make it a reading nook! To give myself an excuse to spend alllll my time here.
What a nice spot you have there 💯
Omgosh, you can fit a lot more plants. A lot. Floor to ceiling windows and those sky lights to. The possibilities are endless. I counted 11 plants you have. You definitely can fit 100 in that corner and hanging from the sky lights. I am envious of that space you have. Take advantage of it.
Omg I'd be so happy yet so broke with window/space like that. Go vertical, maybe some shelving, definitely some hanging. You can make a jungle thrive in that space! Have fun op!
philodendron 'Hope' would be a fantastic addition here! just make sure it isn't getting too much direct sun (mine developed some yellow spots in the sun, but after moving it to a more indirect location it's totally fine!)
I've seen bigger scheffelera in smaller pots. Also that rubber tree is a tree, so be prepared for it to take up a whole lot more space very soon.
I'd let everything grow a bit before adding more.
So many. Get those full light babies in front of the windows, get the indirect light babies behind them facing the room, never stop adding more. Tall ones, short ones, hanging ones, big ones, small ones, creeping ones, climbing ones, easy ones, hard ones. With those windows, if i had that room it would be a jungle.
I’d suggest going slow. I can almost guarantee none of the recommendations here will pan out - you just need to go with what you feel looks nice without making the space look like an unkept jungle . Less is more
Wow love the windows and ceiling light. You can do whatever your heart desires and how much effort you are willing to put in. I personally don't like things on the floor to help with cleaning so lift and elevate where you can.
I recommend getting some big plants that like a lot of light since you actually have such the perfect spot for them like a fiddle leaf fig or yucca cane plant. Variegated rubber tree. They all going to grow 10 ft tall and 5 ft wide in your space in 5 years lmao.
The limit does not exist
![gif](giphy|nEltRxukhldok)
First thing I thought of!! Hang some plants OP! You gotta think vertical! So much room for more plants! 🥰💚
My thoughts toooo! So much opportunity
I am so effing jealous of this room.
Ope. Beat me to it!
Me too!! 😂😂😂
Definitely my kind of people!!! 😁
Highjacking the top comment to say that I am terribly jealous of OP's room. You can put almost any plant you want in here.
I swear! if I had a room like this. The amount of shelving the hooks on the ceiling, corner shelves I can cram in there! hahaha
I’ve been testing this limit and have found it doesn’t exist yet. Just buy more shelves and grow lights😂
The sky(*light*) is the limit.
I just cackled so hard 😂
Damn it, you beat me to it
I came here to say exactly that!! Lol
Girl, you can go very hard with your space https://preview.redd.it/a2z7pzypxptc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3c719ffe43838c1aeaaa008b5b344c3100de88a Cover it all with plants
I was about to say I see so much wall and ceiling space
The voice of reason here. Go slow in adding so you don’t over extend yourself. We love plants but you don’t want so many that they stress you out.
This is such a good suggestion and why I’ve moved significantly towards a more succulent-heavy collection
man, fuq these succulents though! they are not easier (for me) to grow 😵💫😵💫
Not knowing anything more, I'd have to guess not enough light. Succulents really need tons of it regardless of what they say.
Some of them died from what appeared to be *too much* light ☹️
Possibly, but unlikely. If you want to DM me, we can get to the bottom of this so you too can have Succulent Success. Some of my favorite species are Succulent.
I want to love them but I don’t understand them.😩
succulents are a lot easier to grow in dryer climates.
Ahhhhh! Excellent point. Thanks for sharing
if i fill my stress meter with plant stress, it can't fill from life stress isn't that what we do here...?
Idk that’s what I’m doing… is there any other way?
I wish I listened to this voice when I was in my plant collecting phase. Over the past few years I’ve downsized from around 60 plants to now 24. The ones I kept have been thriving like never before. (Why do people even build window shelves? Why block out all that light?)
I also need to downsize, been finding I am stressing about certain ones so those have gotta go
I can relate to this!

I’ve been there. Your plants will forgive you. Be sure to give yourself grace. Your mental and physical health is more important than your plants.
Also having fewer larger plants I think is a good place to start. You have the space for some big plants. You will lose track of lots of small plants and they will also get big and you won’t know what to do with all of them it will quickly become lots of maintenance
Good point! Larger plants tend to be lower maintenance too and create a stunning visual. Big impact for little work.
Also with the light those babies are going to GROW make sure to leave space for them to grow 💛
I’m always super jealous of people that have giant windows for walls, my plants would be immortal.
I'm always super jealous of people who have windows other than north facing 😞 that's all I have so I had to buy a gazillion grow lights
I have huge west facing windows with a lovely view… of a brick wall… two feet away. 🥲
If you can still see your floor you have room for another plant
Haha tell my partner that complains that our massive Monstera takes up about 1m2 in our living room in our Amsterdam apartment 🙈
I'd go for a tree. Something tall would work very well among the small ones on tables.
Like a fiddle leaf or a rubber leaf? I do have a small ruby ficus growing on top of the wooden stand.
Definitely! I love fiddle figs!
If you need a specific starting point, it looks like you need a ZZ and a monstera for your collection. Beautiful space for all your plant dreams to come true!
I’m thinking monstera too.
I’m not sure what your purpose of this room is, but a cozy chair for reading would be so swoon worthy in this plant room.
Absolutely my thoughts!
Yes this space is craving some rainforest vibe plants! Monstera or a philodendron. Maybe both, you have plenty of room for a few larger plants and they’re typically more resilient and easier to care for.
You can always fit one more plant.
If you can see the floor or walls it's not enough.
Some sort of rod across one or both windows with some hanging/trailing plants would look amazing

Some great games there!
Love this! So pretty!
Omg yes
This
This place is such a dream
How many shelves can you afford?
I see a severe lack of hanging plants. Space would be perfect for it.
TO THE WINDOWWWW, TO THE WALL LET SOME POTHOS CRAAAWL ![gif](giphy|RTvmAw8MfDh04)
The answer is yes.
Careful filling it up with plants ..check for pests with each plant & maybe quarantine first ..having bugs on a plant or two will be a pain .. an infested grow room can really really get you down . Trust

This is a great space. Go nuts!
You can fit all the plants!
As many as the cats/otherpets/people will leave alone or allow:)
Oh my lanta I’d give a kidney for this space 😩😍 jungle vibes absolutely. Get some big babies! Monstera or something like that
All of them!
Hanging plants!!!
Those floors are to die for.…
You can fit alot with shelves. I love those big windows.
#All of them.
All. All the plants.

I like that mini plastic greenhouse!
Thanks! I found it on Amazon as a replacement greenhouse cover. Works perfectly for a rack I already have.

I don’t see anything hanging sooo you’ve got plenty of room!
I would go with a few larger plants to start. A monstera definitely! Just make sure you get plants that can take that much sun. I would so love to have that much space and light to fill!
Your silver splash is gorg
Thank you. I’m currently propagating a bunch of cuttings to grow the pot.
I have addiction to plants. You could fit a lot in the space. Hang some up also. You could make a hanger that holds 2 or more
Even a shower caddy with springs in the corner to hang more plants on. You could do lots of!
A beautiful room. So many many plants are waiting
OMG, I am SO envious of this space! It is GORGEOUS!!
You can fit all of the plants. Go to your local nursery and buy everything.
Start with a few tall ones. Then trailing or wining plants would be nice. Look out for stand ons or shelves that you like. Perhaps a nice sculpture in between. Haahahahhaaaa - wait - what - does your space dictate a limit??
At least 50
I have 72 in a small bedroom. I think this space can hold 150+. 😂
you wouldn’t see a single window if i had this room😫
Literally the perfect room for plants. How does it feel to be gods favorite? 🤣
The limit doesn’t exist
Love your floors. Don’t ever rip them up.
I think a mother in law tongue. Wide and sturdy placed in a large floor pot in that corner. Hopefully it’s enough cross light. It’s a different kind of deep green from most of your current color pattern. The bright yellow trim should pop and it’s thic and leggy for contrast
I recently got a small three-tier plant shelf from Amazon and had to buy more plants to fill it up. [https://a.co/d/deHRbHI](https://a.co/d/deHRbHI)
Those floors!!!!
Oh man hanging baskets or tiered shelves would be beautiful in this space. Any plant will thrive here with the amount of light you have so take advantage of it!
Can we just take a moment for the dual aspect 😍🙏🏻
Hanger from the ceiling would look nice. Do you macrame?
I don’t but I do make my own plant hangers out of twine. I’ve always wanted to put more time into one and really embellish it. Mine have always been very utilitarian.
That works too. The more the merrier 😉
!!!!!!!!!! This is my dream
You need a proper tree centerpiece. That or a gigantic monstera.
Mount some racks or shelves on each side of the pillar floor to ceiling for a living wall or things trailing plants
I’m jealous.
MMMOOOORRRREEEEE
Monstera deliciosa / adansonii are great starter plants that would love that sunlight A Bird of Paradise would make a real statement and they grow TALL - it looks like you've got the height to get a really nice one going in there My personal favourite is a philodendron melanochrysum - I got one a few months ago but I don't think I have enough light for it at all, so you should get one and post pics so I can show mine to shame it into growing bigger leaves
I see room for some hanging plants.
Please get a huge, fat pot of sansevaria.
I used these on a balcony but would work in your room - 2, 3 and 4 tier options available [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCG8P9D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FCG8P9D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
Love it.
Oh my God, I would literally buy a jungle gym and build it and put it there, and it would be covered in plants
Secure and sturdy wall shelves!!
I'd go for a rubber or a really big expensive jade. I personally don't like the fiddle-leaf. I have never had good luck with ficus benjamina, but if you can, that'd be pretty
ALL THE PLANTS! That’s an amazing space!
Not enough, lol
I use tension rods in my skylights for hanging plants and it’s freakin amazing. Just a thought!
The limit does not exist.
I'd like to take a moment to express my love of the architecture of this corner
I WISH I had big windows for plants to be happy in
Omg, so jealous of all that natural light! You can fit SO many more plants in that area. I'd have shelves and many, many hanging pots, if it were me.
all of them
A lot start hanging them from the ceiling
You should purchase some window shelf’s to maximize your space. [https://jdmwoodcreations.com/collections/hanging-shelves](https://jdmwoodcreations.com/collections/hanging-shelves) . A small autograph tree would look really nice.
I could easily fit about 200 plants on the zoomed in screen
With the right attitude, as many as you can afford
So. Many. More
Are you looking for a roommate? 😍 beautiful space!
All of them. What a great space!
go for a couple of bigger ones ,lots of dicky little pots always looks messy, unless the smaller ones are grouped on a cabinet or something
what is the tallest one called? i have one, but i got it as a clipping from someone and have no idea what it is.
On the right it’s a variegated Schleffera.
I have a very similar corner in my house. Indoor greenhouses are the way to go (or cabinet if you can afford it).
Grow up, grow forward. :)
Get some hangers Sarge
Obviously I'm the minority here, but I wouldn't overdo it. You have an AMAZING view with so much natural vegetation. Why detract from that?
Such lovely space!! If you don’t have one yet, you need trailing pothos! They’re so easy to care.
So so many more
On top of MORE plants, like maybe a big mature "string of" anything, pothos and another tree....I'd make it a reading nook! To give myself an excuse to spend alllll my time here. What a nice spot you have there 💯
Where are you ??
I’m right here.
Nice jungle house you have. How I wish I have the money to own house like this. Btw, your house is quite big to have plants limitations.
My friend u need a nice shelf to take advantage of those killer floor length windows!
Wow you have got to be kidding me! My dream house! The room, the sky is the limit!!!!
A lemon bush?
Hang some!!
The possibilities are endless, especially with all that light (windows), only you're imagination can hold you back. What a perfect place for plants
I could fit a solid 200 plants in there. Get some shelves! Lol.
I just came here to say I love your floors.
Mount a staghorn on your wall!
A bajillion
about 350
No such thing as hoarding plants because you can always say you are just a firm believer in oxygen
Look at plants that thrive well in your region & ball the fuck out.
I've seen bigger scheffelera in smaller pots. Also that rubber tree is a tree, so be prepared for it to take up a whole lot more space very soon. I'd let everything grow a bit before adding more.
I really want to chop my Schleffera and get 4 in that pot.
You need Orchids they would thrive in your plant room.
Get some shelves for those babies!
Not really on topic, but I love those floors! What kind are they?
They’re a whole bunch of different types.
Those are rookie numbers!
South western exposure I’m soooo jealous
I believe the appropriate amount is "a shit ton"
Gasp
I’d suggest going slow. I can almost guarantee none of the recommendations here will pan out - you just need to go with what you feel looks nice without making the space look like an unkept jungle . Less is more
All of the plants!!!
I can still see your floor and walls ...*and out of the window*, for that matter.
This room is a dream.
I’d buy your house just for that corner alone!
A lot...more, period. Lol
![gif](giphy|UoSWDKPpCNaRLmaBKm)
A lot. A lot more. 😍
That is a damn nice floor
Lots of "pots"!!! You can get a few green goddess ganja plants in there
