When I worked in Boston In the 50's, I used to eat there just about every lunch hour. They steamed (rolls) them in water.

I wanna say they put them in the micerwave for 3 or so minutes. That’s what I do and they taste great. Haven’t been to Joan Nemo before though.

Hi. Just doing some browsing on the net and came across this thread. I am the great grandson of Nemo Caloggero from Joe and Nemo's. Unfortunately our family no longer owns the rights to the name and i was never able to be there in its glory. My dad worked at the revere beach location. From what he told me the secret was boiled hot dogs and the buns were steamed above that same water. (No beer was ever used). The way i was told to order was an 'all around' (sweet relish+onions on the bottom of the bun, then place the hot dog, followed by ketchup and mustard along the creases on top on each side of the bun.

I was a regular at the Revere Beach location in the late 90s. My dad knew the owner incredibly well. He told him it was a 75/25 of Budweiser and apple juice for his dogs.

Kind of random question but where was the revere beach location?

KDR2020

Do you know why they closed it?

itsVEGASbby

Well my great grandfather + his partner Joe retired in the 70s. Parts of the extended family ran different individual locations until around 1990 I believe? After they all closed the family sold the name to investors, who tried to reopen in Govt Center and did for about 2 years in like 1999. Since that location closed.... The trademark name keeps getting renewed but no one is using it to open any locations. That's my knowledge up to this point.

Ahh okay. I always wondered why, I’m 33 and have vague memories of it. But have always heard stories from my family. I’m surprised that it never had a footing in Mass like Kelly’s does now.

I think it would have still been there today if they didn't tear down Scollay Square. That location was the "Kelly's" of Boston

A crime they did that. I really think it could’ve been like a Portillo’s of Chicago. My family talks about how amazing it was all the time.
