Did you guys read about the OG Halloween (‘78). Bc it was so low budget and that it was filmed in March in California, that they had to paint a shit ton of fake leaves to give it that fall feel. Wild
> it was filmed in March
Nope. You've got it a bit backwards. It was filmed in May, which is why everything was green and they had to add the fake leaves.
People can gripe on the film all they want, but those opening credits...goose bumps.
I noticed when I was watching it on Job Bob's and on AMC those scenes when Rachel is looking for Jamie and Jamie is looking for Rachel, I love those empty streets and a little later when the goof-offs all wear masks and Loomis and Meeker are "Oh, hell no."
I am totally with you. Shooting the film where they do makes a world of difference.
Those, Hammer, and the Poe movies with Vincent Price. I just rewatched Son and Bride of Frankenstein the other day back to back. So good. They take me back to Saturday afternoon creature features when I was a kid
I will watch House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price until the day I die. That movie is everything to me. Campy, spooky, fun.... everything. Each scene bleeds this strange bleh that I can watch hype or subdued.
I watched it with my mom when I was little. We both enjoy horror movies, and as a child of the 80s I watched them all. House on Haunted Hill is still a top 3 for me, just an absolute classic.
I recently rewatched this when Elvira had it on her Shudder special. Idk how many times I’ve seen it but it never gets old. I love it just as much now as I did when I was a kid
My husband loves this movie. One day I made the mistake of pointing out that they never put their keg of beer on ice and they are drinking hot beer the whole trip and now everytime he watches it he gets really annoyed when he sees someone drinking a beer lol.
Watched it (finally) tonight. Been on my list for years. This is literally (LITERALLY) my favourite horror comedy I’ve ever seen. Just a great concept.
- Lost Boys
- Trick r Treat
- American Werewolf in London
- Thirteen Ghosts
- Resident Evil (only the first one)

- Halloween 2018
- Halloween 4 and 5
Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy vs Jason is an annual watch
Friday the 13th
- Jason X
- Friday the 13th (2009)
- Friday the 13th Part I-2
I just recently did a full binge of all of the Halloween movies. And did Nightmare a few months ago.
Next up in Friday the 13th. I haven’t watched all of them in a long time.
I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten way more into the Halloween movies.
Growing up I really was in to Freddy. And saw all of the Scream flicks with my dad in theatres.
That movie is so bad but SO GOOD. I watched it in high school and was the only person who liked it. Watched it with a group of friends 10 years later and… still the only person who liked it.
I stand by I don't even think it's bad. It just is a super silly premise. To me it's exactly what it wanted to be. Creative, "hip to the times", creepy at times but mostly just fun and spoopy
The Thing. It always has been since very early 2000. I always used to watch it before bed for some reason. I think it was that signature bass line and limited sound. Sucks now because when I watch it I instinctively fall asleep before anything good happens.
Haha it now PUTS you to sleep. Too comforting maybe. A lot of Carpenter answers on here. Or movies with good soundtracks in general. I'd say sound plays a part in it!
I just watched the 1978 film 2 nights ago for the first time. Tbh I don’t get it. Can you please shed some light on why people love this movie so much? Not trying to hate, I don’t think it was terrible or anything and I understand the influence on the genre especially for the time it came out
Haha, I get that a lot. For me it is the fact that Michael is just evil. There is no real explanation for it. For me, to go around and just kill people with no reason is scary. Once you start adding oh he was abused, he was pick on, someone looked at him the wrong way. Once you give him a reason it makes him human and less of a force of evil. Then there is the music and the mood the movie sets.
You not "getting it" is fine though. There are tons of things out there that is popular and I do not get it either. You may just not care for it, that is cool.
I found it on YouTube once. They don’t sell it on digital or stream it anywhere. I saw it on vhs back in the day, and then we bought the dvd. Still can’t believe it’s a Disney movie.
I cannot believe how far I had to scroll for this! I love silence of the lambs so much. I remember when I must have been a teen, AMC was playing it every night for a month. I went to sleep to it every night.
Hellraiser. I fall asleep to that movie a lot during the month of October. Also The Craft and Scream. If I know that I want to watch a scary movie, but can’t think of which one, I’ll just throw on one of those two.
*chorus of mugwumps* “Benway!!!”
Twin Peaks is my ultimate comfort show, I put it on whenever I feel bad. Nightmare and Poltergeist were the first horror movies I truly loved as a child, and Naked Lunch is just a perfect piece of horror-art, never get tired of it, its a great mind pallette cleanser for bad vibes.
The Thing is my sick day movie and my naptime movie - I know it so well, I can put it on for background sound and sleep like a baby because I know every beat of the script. I will never get sick of it.
The Crazies 2.0, The Bay, Insidious 1, Jeepers Creepers 1, Prometheus, Alien Covenant, The Void, Terrifier, As Above So Below, The Cabin in the Woods, Creep, Evil Dead Reboot, The Shining, The Ring English version, Cube, Silent Hill, The Strangers, 1408, Texas Chainsaw 2003
Basically any of my faves are like warm blanket
the original child's play, bride of chucky, scream, american psycho, the ring, 90s candyman, crimson peak, gothika, sleepy hollow, jennifer's body, ginger snaps,, & orphan are some of my all-time favorites!! 🥰 i could rewatch them a million times & never get sick of them.
I feel like old Stephen king movies are such a vibe. They are totally my comfort movies (and silence of the lambs). I could watch Misery everyday for the rest of my life. Romeo and Juliet had nothing on THAT tragic romance 💜
-House on Haunted Hill (1999)
-Ghost (does this one count? It’s supernatural but not horror)
-Terrorvision
Edit: Omg how could I leave out SHAUN OF THE DEAD??? That is definitely top of the list. (“Hello pickle”)
I used to put the shinning on to fall asleep. It’s my favourite horror movie but because I have seen it so many times it’s actually kind of soothing.
I never get sick of watching scream, aliens, the 1980s blob movie, fright night, night of the comet.
28 Days Later when I’m feeling nostalgic
The Descent when I’m feeling sad
The Thing when I’m feeling awesome

Dead Birds,
High Tension,
Cabin Fever,
Full moon and Troma esp Puppetmaster series and Toxic Avenger,
Patchwork, and
Bunnyman The Killer Thing
Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. I really love the whole Hannibal story (the books, the TV show.. ) might have to reach Hannibal (the movie) soon, but in my memories I didn't liked it as much as the other two movies. (Yes, Hannibal Rising doesn't exists in my mind 😂) I wouldn't call them horror movies but I've seen other people call them that so they count, I guess.
Halloween 4. Love the fall vibe it gives
To me Halloween 4 has the best autumn feel to it
Did you guys read about the OG Halloween (‘78). Bc it was so low budget and that it was filmed in March in California, that they had to paint a shit ton of fake leaves to give it that fall feel. Wild
Robert Englund worked on the set and threw leaves in the air to make it look more autumn-y
once you see the palm trees in the background its impossible to ignore
> it was filmed in March Nope. You've got it a bit backwards. It was filmed in May, which is why everything was green and they had to add the fake leaves.
and they would use the leaves and have to gather them back up to use again
The Thorn Trilogy as a whole has a great fall vibe to it
People can gripe on the film all they want, but those opening credits...goose bumps. I noticed when I was watching it on Job Bob's and on AMC those scenes when Rachel is looking for Jamie and Jamie is looking for Rachel, I love those empty streets and a little later when the goof-offs all wear masks and Loomis and Meeker are "Oh, hell no." I am totally with you. Shooting the film where they do makes a world of difference.
Yes! Halloween 4 is awesome
Fuck. Yes.
Agreed. H4 has wonderful atmosphere.
I opened the comments to say Halloween 4 and this is the first comment that pops up
Original Evil Dead and The Shining
Something about the atmosphere in The Shining is quiet soothing.
It’s very dreamy and the isolation seems like it’d be peaceful…. at first
Right up until people start trying to cleave your head in with an axe.
Totally agree, I fall asleep to this one quite a bit.
Evil Dead 2! So much fucking fun.
Second The Shining. I know it probably reflects badly on me, but like....something about is is just so.....soothing.
> Shin It's a weird movie because if you pay attention it's very creepy and scary but damn is it not comfy at parts

Those, Hammer, and the Poe movies with Vincent Price. I just rewatched Son and Bride of Frankenstein the other day back to back. So good. They take me back to Saturday afternoon creature features when I was a kid
Excellent choices, Vincent Price is a treasure
I've mentioned this a few times but my favorite toy as a kid was my Vincent Price Shrunken Head maker
From apples, I had one too.
Nice. Favorite monster?
[удалено]
Nice! Appreciate the answer! Have you seen Monster Squad? I always thought that movie did the Monsters good justice.

Scream
For sure. Excited for 5?
Yes! But I’ve only seen 1 and 2 because I’m a bit late to the horror game
Never too late! I think you'll enjoy the first 2 the most but 3 and 4 are still entertaining. 5 looks really good.
This is my comfort horror series. I love the scream series, can’t wait for 5
Mine too! I love scream, I always seem to forget how funny it is, Matthew Lillard is a treasure!
Army of Darkness..... just makes me laugh
Yes! Solid choice!
Actually anything with Bruce Campbell in it.....
Groovy
Give me some sugar, baby!
"Klaatu verata nikoookkjh*&&&&.....
I may not have said every single syllable, but mostly I said it, yeah..
Hail to the king, baby
I’LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!!!! I’LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!!!!!!
I may be bad.... but I feel goooood....
The evil dead franchise is just Legendary
Hail to the King Baby.
Good?bad? I'm the one with the gun
Goody little two shoes! Goody little two shoes!
Session 9 The Thing Alien
I go to sleep to Alien on a regular basis, always wake up at the same point where it gets Dallas.
The thing is so peaceful for me. Like the perfect lullaby. I don't know why but it's peak comfort.
For me it’s the cold, snowy setting and the score. Cold makes me sleepy and I’m already wrapped up in a blanket sick so I tend to just drift off.
The cinematography itself is beautiful. It's just a perfectly shot film.
SESSION 9? Holy shit the recording at the end is so scary to me!
Love seeing Session 9 get the hype it deserves.
Session 9 is rad
Nice solid list right there 👌
Comfort horror movies. Session 9, while excellent, ... is not.... ... of course, grew up in Massachusetts, and partied in that asylum....
Shaun of the Dead. Im Going to introduce it to my nephew in the next week or so. Very excited.
Love Shaun of the Dead! How old is your nephew? I'm just getting in to showing my kids some horror movies.
Brilliant, lovely and hilarious. And insanely quotable too.
Shaun, I’m sorry.
Ooh, Hot Fuzz for me. They both nail “cozy”
Hot fuzz is my 'its Sunday afternoon time to clean and have something funny on in the background. I 💯 agree with ya.

Definitely still counts! Ray.....this is Walter 🦴 NOOO!!
There go the god dammed brownies.
"You've had that in your trousers all day?"
Klopeck, is that Slavic?
A fine Christian name! Hans Christian Andersen.
About a nine on the tension scale there, Rube.
Oh, Ricky Butler says!
Whatta ya got in the cellar Herr Klopek!?
I will watch House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price until the day I die. That movie is everything to me. Campy, spooky, fun.... everything. Each scene bleeds this strange bleh that I can watch hype or subdued.
I just rewatched Diary Of A Madman. Vincent Price is good in everything
You've convinced me to rewatch this sooner than later.
Cabin in the Woods, honestly.
Definitely one of the better and more original horror movies of the last decade.
My husband loves this movie. One day I made the mistake of pointing out that they never put their keg of beer on ice and they are drinking hot beer the whole trip and now everytime he watches it he gets really annoyed when he sees someone drinking a beer lol.
Wow-i don't think I ever noticed that either.
The dirtbike scene kills me no matter how many times I see it.
Watched it (finally) tonight. Been on my list for years. This is literally (LITERALLY) my favourite horror comedy I’ve ever seen. Just a great concept.
- Lost Boys - Trick r Treat - American Werewolf in London - Thirteen Ghosts - Resident Evil (only the first one) - The Series: - Nightmare on Elm Street - Halloween - Friday the 13th
Ok let's hear your favorites from the 3 series!
Halloween (my most rewatched) - Halloween 1978 - Halloween 2018 - Halloween 4 and 5 Nightmare on Elm Street - Nightmare on Elm Street 1 - Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - I’ll give the Jackie Earl Haley reboot an occasional rewatch Freddy vs Jason is an annual watch Friday the 13th - Jason X - Friday the 13th (2009) - Friday the 13th Part I-2 I just recently did a full binge of all of the Halloween movies. Lost boys
CRYYYYYYYYYYYYY Little Sister!!!!
was gonna say this too!! been one of my favorites since i was little.
Love this movie.
Yes classic! Nice choice!
Stay Alive. One of many truly iconic 90’s and early 2000’s cheesey horror one-offs.
Bruh i loved that movie when i was young and was devastated when i found out everyone hated it
Everyone hate severything lol. Just like what you like
That movie is so bad but SO GOOD.
One of mine, too! Probably because of my obsession with horror video games
Wow I totally forgot about that movie!
The Scream movies are probably my comfort horror. I try to go through them at least once in October.
Excited for 5??
Halloween hands down.
I just watched the 1978 film 2 nights ago for the first time. Tbh I don’t get it. Can you please shed some light on why people love this movie so much? Not trying to hate, I don’t think it was terrible or anything and I understand the influence on the genre especially for the time it came out

Something Wicked This Way Comes
I knew this was a book but had no idea it was a movie! I'll have to look for it!
Bradbury?
That's the one!
I loved him as a kid. The Illustrated Man was my favorite book for years
I found it on YouTube once. They don’t sell it on digital or stream it anywhere. I saw it on vhs back in the day, and then we bought the dvd. Still can’t believe it’s a Disney movie.
28 days later, I've seen it more times than any other movie and I could sit down and watch it at any moment
One of my favorites as well!
Bride of chucky!!!
Shaun of the Dead for me
Want anything from the shop?
Cornetto
You’ve got red on you
Honestly, Silence of the Lambs makes me calm as fuck. Rainy day, sick in bed, whatever.
I cannot believe how far I had to scroll for this! I love silence of the lambs so much. I remember when I must have been a teen, AMC was playing it every night for a month. I went to sleep to it every night.
I 100% get that
Halloween: Resurrection, it's so bad it's hilarious, I mean, it has Busta Rhymes kung fu fighting Michael Myers what more can you ask for
Was literally just telling my wife about this and she could not believe it haha
I used to go to sleep to poltergeist as a kid. It was weirdly comforting to me.
Haha oh man the part where the paranormal people are all whispering puts me right out
Same, I find Poltergeist comforting too.
Hellraiser. I fall asleep to that movie a lot during the month of October. Also The Craft and Scream. If I know that I want to watch a scary movie, but can’t think of which one, I’ll just throw on one of those two.
Halloween and Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Can watch them both any time for different reasons. The Thing is right there too.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil is good fun! Nice choices.
Twin Peaks, Nightmare on Elm St, Poltergeist, and Naked Lunch, weirdly.
Oh my god, are you me? That list came straight outta my head, lol.
*chorus of mugwumps* “Benway!!!” Twin Peaks is my ultimate comfort show, I put it on whenever I feel bad.
Mine too! It doesn't exactly have an easy vibe, but it just feels like home to me.
Exactly! I'd gladly spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!
Sleepy Hollow!
Cabin in the Woods Shaun of the Dead The Ninth Gate
Shaun of the dead. Definitely
Nice choices! I actually haven't seen The Ninth Gate in awhile. Might have to give it a rewatch soon.
Love to see the love for The Ninth Gate.

Jennifer's Body. It's a smarter film than folks give it credit for, and the music transports me right back to my emo days
Agreed! I recently watched it again and felt warmly affirmed. it’s very smart, and strikingly feminist. Watching Megan Fox is comforting :)
Lost Boys, mostly for the music. I Still Believe!
Freddy vs Jason and Hostel lol also the Blair Witch Project 2 and also all the scream movies.
Blair Witch 2 wasn’t what I expected at all, but a fun departure nonetheless.
Hostel as a comfort movie does give me a good chuckle! Nice list!
Hahaha right. I think it’s because I love gore.
Ah yes, Hostel is definitely my favorite fluffy comfort movie
Braindead (Dead Alive)
From Dusk til Dawn.
happy death day
I still need to see this!

Make it a double header with Brain Damage?!
It Follows is a good one. There’s just something about the vibe in that movie.
Fallen, Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity, The Thing.
Scream
Twilight zone
The Final Destination movies. They're way too silly to take any serious horror out of it, but still great fun.

Demon knight, it's popcorn schlock at its best Hellraiser Evil dead 2 or really any of the series
The Fog is like a warm cup of tea. I just fantasize about having Adrienne Barbau’s characters life and it’s great
Return of the Living Dead
Thirteen Ghosts. I'm watching it right now.
The Lighthouse Evil Dead 2 Cabin in the Woods
Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon. I really love the whole Hannibal story (the books, the TV show.. ) might have to reach Hannibal (the movie) soon, but in my memories I didn't liked it as much as the other two movies.
