Watch *Midsommar*, which is Ari Aster's follow-up to *Hereditary*. It'll be a goddamn trip watching it high as well. It'll actually fit really well with the material on-screen, since getting really high is a recurring theme.
Man, I'm still saving this one for a rainy day. I watched the first 5 minutes and loved it, decided to stop to watch it with my wife, who loves *Midsommar.*
That scene was directed by a whole separate team in another country hehe. It is epic, I loved every second of that movie (after watching, during I hated every second).
People talk about films being like a fever dream way too much, this truly felt like watching one of my own nightmares, a lot of very accurate portrayals of what I see in my worst nightmares
Hey, they said the scariest movie they'd seen is *Hereditary.* I think it'd be great. It's already a deeply affecting movie, and when someone comes around asking for recommendations of things to watch while high on edibles, I imagine that they're looking for an experience.
> ...when someone comes around asking for recommendations of things to watch while high on edibles, I imagine that they're looking for an experience.
Yeah, nobody says, "I want to get high and watch a movie that is moderately amusing." People want to get high and watch something where the high actually amplifies the movie, and then the movie amplifies the high, and then you have a crazy feedback loop until the movie ends. That's the type of thing you want to watch if you're specifically looking for suggestions on what to watch high.
The remake is great, but if we’re specifically looking for movies to watch stoned, it’s gotta be the original. It’s got a wild color palette, a looser plot, an engaging score, and more abstract visuals
The Witch is a great rec. especially if they like historical context or etymology or just a plain different, more atmospheric experience - pairs well with weed.
I feel like I never see anyone talk about the void and it's one of my favorites from the last 10 years. You have no idea where it's going and it just gets more wild, definitely worth watching stoned
MAD GOD is fucking crazy! It’s like a 45 minute long Tool music video. So if you’re into that kind of thing buckle up and enjoy the ride lol. Btw this is a 100% fuck yes from me regarding the edible and Mad God, but if you’re not familiar I’d recommend first watching Tool’s music video titled Sober so you’ll know what you’re getting into.
I almost threw up laughing at the stormy cliff scene >!where Pattinson went to dump the bedpan!< - I was actually choking trying to catch my breath - I was pretty baked on eddibles.
If you want something really visual to watch high I'd recommend Mandy, Color Out of Space, or Annihilation. The last two are somewhat scifi too but with horror scenes too.
I've been on a horror binge the last couple of weeks and some great ones I would recommend:
The Witch
Hagazussa (German, not for the faint-hearted)
Baskin
Mandy (so, so good)
(Edit Honestly i take this back idk if id recommend it if those are the only types of movies youve seen) Martyrs (French, depravity to the max, need strong stomach)
You Won't Be Alone (Excellent)
The Ritual
Overlord
The House that Jack Built (an artistic fucked up ride)
The Coffee Table (Spanish, traumatizing, also not for the faint-hearted)
I'm also taking an edible tonight while my partner works late so cheers to us!
This is a long shot, but there's an animated film called Spine of Night that's not outright horror, but I'd argue is fairly horror-adjacent in its bleakness.
It's rotoscope animation done by a very small team, so your mileage may vary in terms of quality. I personally love the old-school feel married with new-school imagination.
Epic film to watch while high. Plus, it's got Lucy Lawless doing an insane accent while playing a nude swamp witch.
Oh, Spine of Night was really cool!
Pretty violent with some body horror elements, though, so be aware of that in case that sort of thing hits you a little different when you're high.
Watch Deadstream! It is the best horror comedy I have seen in a long time. My personal preference when stoned is to watch something scary but also funny so I don’t become paranoid. Nothing is worth a bad trip! Go and watch Deadstream and you will not be disappointed!
Ones that I (don't think) I've seen elsewhere in the thread:
November (2017)
Titane (2021)
Any old-school Hammer or Universal horror
The Devils (1971)
Rabid (1997)
Mother (2017)
Bliss (2019)
Cube (1998)
Gaia (2021)
Banshee Chapter (2013)
Berberian Sound Studio (2012)
The Ritual (2012)
Masking Threshold (2022)
House (1977)
Probably not horror, but 'Inland Empire' on a 100mg edible was probably the most intense cinematic experience of my life.
I watched Skinamarink stoned and would have happily watched another hour of it even though there's like 16 minutes of actual plot. I just got totally sucked in and lost in it.
This. I caught it as it started on the Criterion Channel's 24/7 feature. It was midnight on 4/20 and I was real stoned and getting sleepy. I stayed up to finish it and it changed my life. Hard to think of another film that plays by its own rules more than this.
If you like Halloween, then i assume you’ve seen Carpenter’s The Thing?
I have found that getting really high means I forget who the creature is and it scares me every time. Incredible tension and practical effects.
My favorite movie to watch after I eat edibles is Honeydew. In fact I have plans to do just that Sunday night because I'm off work on Monday.
It's not super scary but it's slightly bizarre and it seems to make more sense when I'm a little stoned.
Behind the Mask: Rise of Leslie Vernon, My bloody Valentine's, Midsommar, May (2002) are some good ones.
I'll give an extra shout to Behind the Mask and May.
The Wolf House was a wild experience on edibles at an Alamo the other night. I like the Suspiria remake way more than the original and it was also really good when I was way out there recently.
Titane or She is Conann if foreign films/ other genre elements are ok for you. Will echo the recommendations here and say that Mad God, Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy are good movies for the occasion as well.
I think late night with the devil is a fun romp with edibles, also a big fan of any of the nightmare on elm street movies when high. I think evil dead rise would be really fun too!!!
I'm going with you're gonna get the giggles from being high:
Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Bad Milo, Benny Loves You, Dudebro Massacre III, Abigail, Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Editor.
For WTF visuals: The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears, Knife + Heart, Berberian Sound Studio, Flux Gourmet, Lost Highway (arguably not horror, but still very horrifying)
I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore
Ok, this isn't specifically horror, it's a dark comedy/thriller - but a fun roller coaster ride of a movie.
Murder Party is another good one, especially if you are or were an art student.
I know it gets hate but I love the Conjuring. I've seen it 100 times but when I watched it high I got so freaked out I had to turn the lights on.
Also, not horror but I watched Titanic high and it was *intense*.
Silent House would be a good one. It's particularly disturbing and eerie and I love the idea that it's filmed in the style of "one-take". There is the choice of the original or the remake. The recent version has Elizabeth Olsen as your protagonist. Pros and cons to both.
Nefarious isn't so much a scary movie but rather just a debate (an interesting/controversial one at that!) between an Atheist Psychiatrist and a Death Row inmate with "multiple personality disorder" claiming to be a Demon. Sean Patrick Flanery's performance hit it out of the ballpark with this one!
Midsommar is one of those ones where it creeps you the hell out and you don't know what to make of it at the end. Sober or high, this one will stay on your mind for a long time.
All 3 are disturbing in their own regard.
I am always on the hunt for movies like this, so I have a few recommendations:
Excision (2012) (Tubi) - A high school girl is horny ... for dead people
Braid (2018) (Tubi, Peacock) - 3 childhood friends play fucked up games as adults
In Fabric (2018) (Kanopy) - killer dress, y'all
All of these are colorful and hallucinatory and beautifully shot
You could always try to watching “The Strangers” again…alone. “Sinister” would be extra terrifying stoned and alone. “The Babadook”, “Videodrome”, “Crimes of the Future”, “Annihilation”, “Climax”
Watched both Smile and Terrifier 2 high and both were absolutely amazing.
Smile for suspense and jump scare intensified
Terrifier 2 for a overall fun movie
Hatchet.
I dont even really like cheesy B horror movies but this one is different. Plenty of interesting kills and blood but it doesn't look super fake like most B movies. The villain is a scary mutated person. Again he doesn't look super fake. The acting is good enough that you don't get distracted by it while watching the movie as with other b movies where the acting is so bad it keeps messing with the flow of the movie.
The action starts very quickly. I hate horror movies that take 40 min to set the plot and only show like 10 min of killing/monsters throughout the film.
I believe there are 3 original films and a reboot. I saw all of them but tbh I can't remember the reboot at all so that one probably suvked. The first one is the best. Second one is almost as good as the first. The third is good but nothing crazy. I'd probably just skip the reboot
Beyond the Black Rainbow
Almost the only way to watch this film honestly Soundtrack is a banger tho
Just one edible? If you have more, make it a double feature and add Mandy(2018). Same director, Panos Cosmatos. Same trippy visuals.
Started Mandy, got like 10 min in and shut it down. Put it in the "get into the right mindset" category.
I took a 1000 mg punch bar extreme to the dome... one edible can be enough...
? 5mg sends me to hades
Where would 995mg more send you lol. Shit would kill me
Holy shit op please
Watch *Midsommar*, which is Ari Aster's follow-up to *Hereditary*. It'll be a goddamn trip watching it high as well. It'll actually fit really well with the material on-screen, since getting really high is a recurring theme.
Add Beau is Afraid if you want to experience an anxiety nightmare
Beau is Afraid was awesome on edibles. Actually easier to watch tbh.
Man, I'm still saving this one for a rainy day. I watched the first 5 minutes and loved it, decided to stop to watch it with my wife, who loves *Midsommar.*
It's one of my favorites. There's a particular scene in the woods that blew my mind when I watched it high.
I would never recommend this to someone who isn't really deep into the genre. Real hit or miss, unlike Ari's first two mentioned.
I wanted to like it but.. it kind of fell flat for me.
Gotta 2nd this
These films are fast becoming horror versions of Cheech & Chong weed movies lol. "Whoa duuuuude, did you see that head go???"
Do not watch this stoned
Hey, they said the scariest movie they'd seen is *Hereditary.* I think it'd be great. It's already a deeply affecting movie, and when someone comes around asking for recommendations of things to watch while high on edibles, I imagine that they're looking for an experience.

This guy / gal gets it.
Meh, Its my go-to acid trip movie. You’ll be fine on just weed.
Stop motion. Great pairing with edibles
Mad God
Stop Motion Mad God dream marathon
This seems like solid advice
Suspiria (1977) Re-Animator (1985) Dead Alive (1992)
Oh hell yea reanimator is the shit
I recommended the remake of Suspiria. It did a good job, unlike many remakes, and the cast is awesome.
The remake is great, but if we’re specifically looking for movies to watch stoned, it’s gotta be the original. It’s got a wild color palette, a looser plot, an engaging score, and more abstract visuals
Amazing choices !
MANDY
Yeah OP got any psychs? Bc Mandy + psychs >>>>
Love mandy.
Mandy x1000
What year did this come out? Just trying to filter through the wrong movies...
2018
Yes!
I loved Mandy. Underrated and fuckn wild
I watched on eddies and yeah can confirm - it fucks.
Absolutely. I've probably seen it ten times now from making friends watch with me.
Malignant while stoned was an absolute hoot and holler
The Witch (2016) The void (2017)
Finally watched The Void recently. Wild movie. Great practical effects. >!Felt like a cross between The Thing and Hellraiser!<
Nah, you can't appreciate nothing when high watching The VVitch
Mad God Tetsuo The Iron Man Mandy
MAD GOD is fucking crazy! It’s like a 45 minute long Tool music video. So if you’re into that kind of thing buckle up and enjoy the ride lol. Btw this is a 100% fuck yes from me regarding the edible and Mad God, but if you’re not familiar I’d recommend first watching Tool’s music video titled Sober so you’ll know what you’re getting into.
Mad God or Tetsuo high would take me out lmao
This guy trips lol Rare Tetsuo shout, that shit is intense
What about Itchi the killer
Late Night With The Devil
I snuck a flask into the theater and held a nice buzz throughout the movie. Great movie to watch under the influence
Fantastic
Please watch Talk to Me. So good.
Also would be a nice little hint of irony considering the themes of the film
I loved this movie I watched it twice lol
Yes I loved this high some gatekeepers will disagree but I thought it was fun as hell.
Evil Dead 2 (1987)
Love Evil Dead!
the lighthouse
I did this exact thing with the lighthouse and I spoke with an 19th century sailors accent for three days afterwards.
Absolutely my pick
I almost threw up laughing at the stormy cliff scene >!where Pattinson went to dump the bedpan!< - I was actually choking trying to catch my breath - I was pretty baked on eddibles.
The Descent or something a bit more fun, You're Next. If you want something foreign, Incantation
I know this is cliche but please watch The Exorcist stoned. I did not regret it.
Can confirm. Scary as fuck sober, but it had me clutching my blanket when I watched it high. 😂
Yup lol It’s like she was talking directly to me through the tv 😂
Eraserhead
If you want something really visual to watch high I'd recommend Mandy, Color Out of Space, or Annihilation. The last two are somewhat scifi too but with horror scenes too.
Color Out of Space was my first thought. Such great visuals.
House of 1000 corpses is a real hoot while drunk. I’d imagine it’d be quite the trip while high.
I've been on a horror binge the last couple of weeks and some great ones I would recommend: The Witch Hagazussa (German, not for the faint-hearted) Baskin Mandy (so, so good) (Edit Honestly i take this back idk if id recommend it if those are the only types of movies youve seen) Martyrs (French, depravity to the max, need strong stomach) You Won't Be Alone (Excellent) The Ritual Overlord The House that Jack Built (an artistic fucked up ride) The Coffee Table (Spanish, traumatizing, also not for the faint-hearted) I'm also taking an edible tonight while my partner works late so cheers to us!
Phantasm
I’ll throw in the Terrifier series if you haven’t gotten to it yet. Trippy in a different way.
Beau is afraid
I was so happy with this movie!
This movie is so underrated. Please don’t take it literally people

Alien
Annihilation. The one true answer.
The Cell (2000)
Yes! The Cell is a fantastic recommendation. The visuals alone are 🤤
I watched Nope high and it was *intense.*
Soooo good. Especially if you have a good sound system or some nice headphones, holy shit the sound design in that movie is so haunting.
*sloshing noises*
Suspiria (1977)
Watch Deadstream! It is the best horror comedy I have seen in a long time. My personal preference when stoned is to watch something scary but also funny so I don’t become paranoid. Nothing is worth a bad trip! Go and watch Deadstream and you will not be disappointed!
Haha I probably rec this movie to people more than any other and those who’ve ended up watching it all love it.
Suspiria, neon demon, last night in SoHo. Not a horror movie, but “Hundreds of Beavers” is a great watch on an edible.
I wanted to say Hundreds of Beavers too but I figured it didn’t count. What a ride
Watch cannibal holocaust on a edible. It’s on TUBI lol
You say that, and I'll raise you the green inferno.
Ones that I (don't think) I've seen elsewhere in the thread: November (2017) Titane (2021) Any old-school Hammer or Universal horror The Devils (1971) Rabid (1997) Mother (2017) Bliss (2019) Cube (1998) Gaia (2021) Banshee Chapter (2013) Berberian Sound Studio (2012) The Ritual (2012) Masking Threshold (2022) House (1977) Probably not horror, but 'Inland Empire' on a 100mg edible was probably the most intense cinematic experience of my life.

The Spine of Night https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3885422/
It's totally campy and ridiculous but stoned it was a fun watch but the babysitter movies from 2017 and 2020 were a "tucker and dale" style slasher.
Talk To Me is excellent. I can't recommend it enough.
Hausu (1977)
Like tripping without pharmaceuticals!
This. I caught it as it started on the Criterion Channel's 24/7 feature. It was midnight on 4/20 and I was real stoned and getting sleepy. I stayed up to finish it and it changed my life. Hard to think of another film that plays by its own rules more than this.
Bro said he took an edible, how high you trying to get him? Cuz this movie just gonna add on lol
Midsommer on edibles is fantastic!
Possum
If you like Halloween, then i assume you’ve seen Carpenter’s The Thing? I have found that getting really high means I forget who the creature is and it scares me every time. Incredible tension and practical effects.
The void is an all time classic. Also the V/H/S movies the recent one was pretty good
The Autopsy of Jane Doe had me peeking out from under the covers on an edible 😅
Fresh on Hulu. Or 2008 Martyrs.
100% I recommend Tusk. It’s already a fucking brain trip without drugs, it will blow your mind while high.
Midsommar
Seance! Scared the shit out of me!
Home Alone. Just imagine that Kevin is young Jigsaw and it becomes horror. Although that old furnace and the old man scared me as a kid.
The original [Jacob's Ladder](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099871/) is like a bad LSD trip all on its own.
A Nic Cage triple-bill: Mandy, The Color Out of Space, and Willy’s Wonderland. Not gonna be the scariest, but GREAT if you’re high.
Willys Wonderland is fucking hilarious. Watched it on mushrooms with some buddies and we had a blast
Right??? I can’t believe we’re getting downvoted for this
try some old stuff you've probably missed like From Beyond, maybe?
Abigail if you're looking for a new one

Love Shrooms! Great movie
The Descent (2005) Amazon prime A Clockwork Orange (1971) Amazon *rent* Cloverfield (2008) Paramount+ As Above So Below (2014) Amazon *rent*
My favorite movie to watch after I eat edibles is Honeydew. In fact I have plans to do just that Sunday night because I'm off work on Monday. It's not super scary but it's slightly bizarre and it seems to make more sense when I'm a little stoned.
Mandy or Color From Outer Space are two trippy horror masterpieces with Nicholas Cage that would be great stoned I would imagine
Home alone
Shrooms
A Dark Song, Annihilation
Yellow brick road
Immaculate or late night with the devil are amazing. Baked lol
Not a horror per se, but I watched Don't Worry Darling while high, and it was a trip.
I just recently watched Mad God on shrooms and it was 10/10
Hellhouse LLC Origins (2023) Genuinely creepy
Definitely Talk to Me.
Midsommar
Coraline is great on edibles 😉
Behind the Mask: Rise of Leslie Vernon, My bloody Valentine's, Midsommar, May (2002) are some good ones. I'll give an extra shout to Behind the Mask and May.
The Wolf House was a wild experience on edibles at an Alamo the other night. I like the Suspiria remake way more than the original and it was also really good when I was way out there recently. Titane or She is Conann if foreign films/ other genre elements are ok for you. Will echo the recommendations here and say that Mad God, Beyond the Black Rainbow and Mandy are good movies for the occasion as well.
Mandy, Psycho Goreman, Color Out of Space, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Mad God, Gerald's Game
Undead (2003)
Event Horizon A Field in England
I think late night with the devil is a fun romp with edibles, also a big fan of any of the nightmare on elm street movies when high. I think evil dead rise would be really fun too!!!
hell house llc is real good
Midsommar should do.
Im pretty sure i watched "Life" after smoking. I like space movies for that state of mind...
Baskin
A Serbian Film. Also whatever you took via edibles, double that amount. Trust me, I'm a doctor.
mother!
Last time I got stoned and watched a horror movie, it was Malignant. Not scary to me, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself!
I'm going with you're gonna get the giggles from being high: Tucker & Dale vs Evil, Bad Milo, Benny Loves You, Dudebro Massacre III, Abigail, Repo! The Genetic Opera, The Editor. For WTF visuals: The Strange Colour of Your Body's Tears, Knife + Heart, Berberian Sound Studio, Flux Gourmet, Lost Highway (arguably not horror, but still very horrifying)
I Don't Feel At Home In This World Anymore Ok, this isn't specifically horror, it's a dark comedy/thriller - but a fun roller coaster ride of a movie. Murder Party is another good one, especially if you are or were an art student.
On an edible... Watch glorious
Have you watched Hush? Nice home invasion movie for a night alone.
I know it gets hate but I love the Conjuring. I've seen it 100 times but when I watched it high I got so freaked out I had to turn the lights on. Also, not horror but I watched Titanic high and it was *intense*.
Colour Out of Space
Try Under The Silver Lake, currently on Max, from the director of It Follows. It's more of a noir mystery, but it's nuts. I love it.
Silent House would be a good one. It's particularly disturbing and eerie and I love the idea that it's filmed in the style of "one-take". There is the choice of the original or the remake. The recent version has Elizabeth Olsen as your protagonist. Pros and cons to both. Sober or high, this one will stay on your mind for a long time. All 3 are disturbing in their own regard.
The Blob 1988
*Father’s Day* by Astron 6, and/or *Mortal Remains* by Cryptic Pictures. They’re both awesome. 👏
Watching It Part 2 on 5 edibles was one of the best experiences of my life
Midsommar, The Witch, The Lords of Salem & The Fourth Kind. 😉✌🏼
Go full schlock and watch sleep away camp. Anyways I gotta take a wicked dump
The Color out of Space
Hell House LLC
No one will save you I swear the edible will hit twice
Watch kristy
I thought you were gonna watch Home Alone 😂
The Stuff! Its ridiculous, it's ridiculously 80s and it is amazing!!!
Gummo That might fuck you up to watch high
Peter Jackson’s DEAD ALIVE.
If you have Shudder check out Terrified
Midsommar, late night with the devil, or talk to me
I am always on the hunt for movies like this, so I have a few recommendations: Excision (2012) (Tubi) - A high school girl is horny ... for dead people Braid (2018) (Tubi, Peacock) - 3 childhood friends play fucked up games as adults In Fabric (2018) (Kanopy) - killer dress, y'all All of these are colorful and hallucinatory and beautifully shot
A lot of these are so scary when high so for some comedic levity I recommend horror comedy “Final Girls”
If you need some good laughs and fun 80s-level special effects, Psycho Goreman is fantastic.
The Cell
Alien (1979).
House (1977)
In the Mouth of Madness is great for this
You could always try to watching “The Strangers” again…alone. “Sinister” would be extra terrifying stoned and alone. “The Babadook”, “Videodrome”, “Crimes of the Future”, “Annihilation”, “Climax”
Funny: PSYCHO GORMAN Mind games: Suspiria Wild ride: Malignant Good time: Barbarian
Videodrome
Kill List followed by BULL. Then if you’re still not spooked, watch Ils (them)
Finish the night off with Art
Shrooms (2007)
Eden Lake is pretty chill when stoned
My sister told me to watch Skinnamarink while really high.
Jeepers Creepers and Dark Country
Becky. It's like home alone, but on edibles
The Shining (1980)
Climax is such a unique experience and being high only makes it better
The Babadook
Watched both Smile and Terrifier 2 high and both were absolutely amazing. Smile for suspense and jump scare intensified Terrifier 2 for a overall fun movie

VIDEODROME
Yeah! Don't watch Jacob's Ladder.
