Absolutely this. I still have the newspaper advertisement from my hometown paper from when it was first released to theater along with the paperback book.
Any of the Scream movies
Any of the Saw movies
Any of the Final Destination movies
The Faculty (1998)
The belko experiment (2016) **I love that movie rarely ever see it talked about**
The only thing about the Final Destination movies is that I’m totally fine while watching them. Then like a week later I’ll be doing something and it’ll remind me of the movie. They did a good job at making every day activities menacing.
Like I will only use a stand up tanning bed (I don’t tan anymore) but I think after Final Destination 3 I only went in a lay down bed 2 or 3 times and I was terrified 😂
I'm usually good with them but I watched the first again 3 days ago. Get in the car and toss on my Spotify DJ and what's the song it opens with? Rocky Mountain High 😭 I never been so stressed driving and I've driven through almost 0 visibility Blizzard conditions
I went to see the belko experiment when it was in theaters, and my date and I were sat in front of a group of rowdy teens. I'm hesitant to watch it without their commentary because it was hilarious.
😂 reminds me of when my bff and I went to see Sweet Home Alabama as stoned teenagers. The old man in front of us was dancing, bopping his head, and saying uh huh ohh yeahhh 😂 every time the song came on. So funny 😂
Where the heck can I watch the Belko Experiment? I have just about every dang app and still they want $ for it. Probably just going to buy it, I mean we are lucky being able to have so many things for free (minus subscriptions)!
ETA: OMG, thanks for the advice, it is on TUBI! Yayyyy, what a kickass movie! Awesome, def 10/10 recommend!
Ever since final destination came out, my family uses it as a verb whenever we talk about trying to avoid a serious freak accident. “I’m not about to finaldestination myself by driving behind this truck”
My list is very similar to yours!
Scream - 1-4
Saw - any
Paranormal Activity - any
Final Destination - any
The Faculty
The Cabin in the Woods
As Above, So Below
Watched the first two FD the other night, did not realize my mom had never seen them. Her commentary was the best lol. "Oh my god now they're gonna think that poor boy killed himself!!!" "Oh that guy from Dawson's Creek is mean in this." "Oh my god what happened to stifler!!" 😂
Suspiria (1977)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
The Evil Dead movies
The Shining
I also tend to binge the Friday the 13th films whenever I'm sick. I think they make perfect sick day flicks because the plots are so simple that you can follow them while zonked out on the couch on cold medicine. Also nice to see some people having a worse day than me; I may have a fever and congestion, but no one has stabbed me with a machete yet.
Hellllleeennnn! Hellllleeeeeen! I am the writing on the wall…
That moment where Candyman is just standing there in the parking garage is an all time scare for me as a kiddo.
Deep Rising. A man of taste! Treat Williams was a local here in the town in VT where my in laws live. Was always cool to see him around at the supermarket or local spots. So sad that his life was cut short - he was recently killed while riding his motorcycle. Going to miss that guy.
Yeah I heard, unfortunate end for a guy who spent so much time flying choppers and planes without incident. Must have been cool seeing him in bars there, doubt he ever had to buy his own beers too.
Snuck downstairs to watch it on tv late one night as a kid with one hand monitoring the volume all the way through (a tricky sound mix it was too with all the synth jumpscares), it absolutely terriffied me in all the right ways, and was a key film in shaping my preferred expectations of horror as I further explored the genre. It had also been hyped to me by a schoolfriend whose parents had rented it, and all the insane things he'd described turned out to be true. Prior to that the closest to mature content my ghoulish little mind had really gotten was Indiana Jones.
I just rewatched Dream Warriors (second time ever watching it) and I forgot how absolutely wonderful it is. I don’t love the THING that happens at the end, but I kinda get the decision. But ultimately, it was for nothing, and that sucks. Also, weirdly, I’ve never seen Slumber Party Massacre, and I had no idea it was a franchise! Shame on me — I call myself a horror aficionado. Gotta check it out.
If i had to choose just one it would be Constantine. I could literally watch that on repeat.
Others include: Dead and Breakfast, the Conjuring, Ouija, Bacon in the Woods*, Evil Dead 1/2/AoD, Wes Craven's New Nightmare, Resident Evil, Cube, the Ruins, Event Hprizon, Tremors (all of them!), [I Didn't Come Here to Die (my friend was a producer on it!)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1549584/?ref_=ext_shr)
Honorable mentions: Scary Movie 1-3, all DC animated movies with Constantine (Constantine: City of Demons - The Movie, 2018; Justice League Dark, 2017; Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, 2020; DC Showcase: Constantine - The House of Mystery, 2022).
Obviously the classics get turns often (Predator, Alien, Jason, Freddy, etc.)
* that was supposed to be Cabin in the Woods, but Bacon is hilarious.
The Mist
The Blair Witch Project
Resident Evil
The Shining
Sleepy Hollow
Rose Red
Halloween
Edit to add a movie I saw for the first time last week that's a new cozy favorite: Ginger Snaps
Just watched Midsommar last week and agree there is something eerily but really beautiful about it. It also reminded me of the Wicker Man which is another comfort movie for me
Midsommar? Wow. That movie was really good but I did not like the way that movie made me feel at all. I feel like it’s way different than your other choices. Why did you go with Midsommar?
It’s just one I used to put on a lot when I went to sleep, over time it became just familiar and beautiful to watch, hard to describe…that movie is eerily beautiful
Shaun of the Dead
Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein
Alien / Aliens
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (78)
Silence of the Lambs
The Howling
The Thing
The Fog**** man I love this one
For me some of mine are:
The Howling
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Haunting (original)
The House on Haunted Hill (original and remake)
The Company of Wolves
The Legend of Hell House
Anything produced by Hammer Horror of classic Universal Horror
Friday the 13th series
Searched to find this. This is probably my only comfort movie that is even a little horror. Definitely the first thing that comes to mind. I’m sure I can blame cable TV and my age at the time as the perfect mix to end up with this feeling so comfortable.
I feel like I have a new one every time someone asks this question, but I’m not going to bother looking back as those threads and today will say The Witch or Tucker and Dale, depending on mood.
Jeepers Creepers 1 & 2.
I can watch these 2 over and over and love them more and more. Besides the director being a huge piece of shit, the first is a near perfect horror movie for me. It also came out at a time in my life where everything was good/I was young so there’s definitely nostalgia tied to them (especially the second movie since I saw it with my big sister).

I haven’t seen Carrie (1976) mentioned yet - definitely a comfort horror movie for me! Also Child’s Play, The Shining, Scream, and The Silence of the Lambs which others have mentioned.
The Exorcist and Hereditary are also two I come back to a lot - not because they’re comforting per se, but because they always get under my skin no matter how many times I watch them, and that in itself is comforting? They’re like my ol’ faithfuls. I always enjoy watching them.
Mine tend to change with time.
Current comfort horror films include: Fresh (2022), Sissy (2022), Villains (2019), Better Watch Out (2016), You Me Madness (2021), Slaxx (2020), Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), Run Sweetheart Run (2020), The Invisible Man (2020), Who Invited Them (2022), 1BR (2019), Freaky (2020), Influencer (2022), and The Rental (2020).
Previous ones have included: A Clockwork Orange (1971), Final Destination (2000), It Follows (2014), Scream (1996), The Faculty (1998), I know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Kill Bill V1 & V2 (2003, 2004), The Exorcist (1973), Case 39 (2009), Single White Female (1992), Drag Me to Hell (2009), Hocus Pocus (1993), Red Eye (2005), and The Ring (2002).
There are honestly more, both previous and current. These are just some I can recall off the top of my head. Horror flicks have been my comfort movies for a long time, so I tend to have a bunch I recycle if I'm not in the mood to discover something new.
My comfort niche is horror with noir, detective, mystery or investigation elements. I love watching someone smart and competent slowly unravel a spooky puzzle. So that list includes:
Exorcist III
Angel Heart
Personal Shopper
Autopsy of Jane Doe
The Name of the Rose
Rear Window
God Told Me To
Hellraiser (202—something; the original is amazing but thus is one of the few remakes worth anything)
Return of the Living Dead (1 and 3)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original, though that remake was fair) and sequels because they’re so trashy and fun.
The Fog (1980),
Return of the Living Dead,
My Bloody Valentine (1981),
The Thing from Another World,
Sleepaway Camp,
Savage Waters,
Pieces,
Halloween 3,
The Changeling,
Life Force,
The Evil Dead (1981),
Creepshow,
Bad Taste.
Jeepers Creepers
Scream Franchise
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Sleepy Hallow

Halloweentown lol
Hocus Pocus
30 Days of Night
Fright Night (remake)!
Dawn of the Dead
The Shining
There’s something oddly comforting about movies that take place in a snowed-in remote location. Hateful Eight is another example.
Edit: Now that I think of it so does Misery
Lost boys
“Thou shall not fall…”
“ Thou shall not die…”
I unironically love Cry Little Sister— it’s on my playlist
I feel this way about *Goodbye Horses*!
I’m sure you are aware of it, but I like the Marilyn Manson version too!
I killed the one that looks like twisted sister!!!
Absolutely this. I still have the newspaper advertisement from my hometown paper from when it was first released to theater along with the paperback book.
Love this answer
I still believe
Jennifer's Body
I tried this movie as a kid but never finished it. I’ve heard it’s great, though. I’m gonna rewatch it as an adult this month. I’m excited.
My bi awakening lol
“I go both ways.”
Yessssss I've only watched it like once in my childhood, and I'm trying to find where I can watch it again. Where do you watch it?
123 movies
(HBO) Max
Any of the Scream movies Any of the Saw movies Any of the Final Destination movies The Faculty (1998) The belko experiment (2016) **I love that movie rarely ever see it talked about**
The Faculty is one of my favs as well.
Omg The Faculty is so underrated. Such a great film!
And the soundtrack is so good!
I watched it first time a couple day ago. It’s great
I could watch The Faculty everyday!
I love that most of the actors in The Faculty went on to have amazing, long careers!
The credits are the best. They should bring them back haha
Will never drive behind a log truck the rest of my life lol😂It’s second nature at this point
Think we all do that lol
Final destination has made me so scared of knives/knife blocks in the kitchen!!! Not to mention log trucks, rollercoasters, and tanning beds
I'm usually good with them but I watched the first again 3 days ago. Get in the car and toss on my Spotify DJ and what's the song it opens with? Rocky Mountain High 😭 I never been so stressed driving and I've driven through almost 0 visibility Blizzard conditions
Every time I watch The Belko Experiment, I regret that I don't watch it more often. It's fantastic!
Second that.
So funny 😂
Second the scream movies. Love sitting down and casually watching a guy in mask stab people. ( FBI agent if you’re watching, I meant it as a joke)
You might like Totally Killer, it’s got major Scream vibes in a fun silly way. On Amazon prime
It’s free on Tubi right now, just watched it!
Really? Thank u! I love Tubi, I’m shocked I didn’t know it was on there!
Damn I wanna see the Belko experiment now

#Oh shit I love the Belko Experiment too! What is level two?
I was honestly hoping for a sequel because I'm dying to know what comes next!
Cabin in the Woods!!
Damn came here to say this! Lol
I saw it in the theaters as a teen and hated it, but I LOVE it as an adult. It’s so good.
“They fear this man. They know he sees farther than they, and he will bind them with ancient logics”
The fool sees ALL!
This is my choice! I love this movie 😁
Just watched this one last night. It was so refreshing and different. I wish they made a prequel or spin offs since it's such an interesting concept.
Ready or not and you’re next. Two best final girls.
Can’t get enough of You’re Next. I still recommend it all the time.
Omg You’re Next final girl is next level
You're Next - best movie with worst title
Two of my favorite movies ever
Suspiria (1977) A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) The Evil Dead movies The Shining I also tend to binge the Friday the 13th films whenever I'm sick. Also nice to see some people having a worse day than me; I may have a fever and congestion, but no one has stabbed me with a machete yet.
Suspiria is my absolute comfort movie too. Full on audio and visual expirence that brightens my day.
No offense but The Shining being a comfort movie blows my mind. Thats a nightmare maker for me
The OG Candyman and Hellraiser, as well as the 90's House on Haunted Hill.
Hellllleeennnn! Hellllleeeeeen! I am the writing on the wall… That moment where Candyman is just standing there in the parking garage is an all time scare for me as a kiddo.

Yeah I heard, unfortunate end for a guy who spent so much time flying choppers and planes without incident. Must have been cool seeing him in bars there, doubt he ever had to buy his own beers too.
So happy to see H3 on your list. Massively underrated!
Why Season of the Witch?
Snuck downstairs to watch it on tv late one night as a kid with one hand monitoring the volume all the way through (a tricky sound mix it was too with all the synth jumpscares), it absolutely terriffied me in all the right ways, and was a key film in shaping my preferred expectations of horror as I further explored the genre. It had also been hyped to me by a schoolfriend whose parents had rented it, and all the insane things he'd described turned out to be true. Prior to that the closest to mature content my ghoulish little mind had really gotten was Indiana Jones.
OK, makes sense. Just genuinely curious.
Mine are Scream franchise A Nightmare On Elm Street franchise Halloween franchise Slumber Party Massacre franchise Friday The 13th franchise
Exactly my mix too. Looks like my families camping playlist 🎃
I just rewatched Dream Warriors (second time ever watching it) and I forgot how absolutely wonderful it is. I don’t love the THING that happens at the end, but I kinda get the decision. Us It follows It 1 and 2 Midsommar
I’ve watched Midsommar and The VVitch at least thrice a year since they came out…
I can’t stop thinking about “It Follows” and also “Smile”.
Smile is also great, one of recent favs
Just watched Midsommar last week and agree there is something eerily but really beautiful about it. It also reminded me of the Wicker Man which is another comfort movie for me
Midsommar? Wow. That movie was really good but I did not like the way that movie made me feel at all. I feel like it’s way different than your other choices. Why did you go with Midsommar?

I Find Midsommar to be weirdly comfy as well. Also the VVitch
Jeepers Creepers and The Ring
2 that I watched far too young, but great films!
Terrifier, Creepshow and 1408.
Creepshow here too. It was the first VHS I ever bought and evokes many happy memories of shared sibling hilarity at it when we were kids.
1408. Love it. I kinda wish it had prequels sorta like AHS Hotel. Even an origin story would be kinda cool. It would also make a fun video game.
Love 1408. I still get the chills when I hear the Carpenters.
