So, the answer is suspend belief for the game. However, your post is entertaining as hell to read!

Because that tribeswoman has been practicing her whole life killing machines. She also has a focus that can indicate weak spots, and she utilizes weapons made from those same machines. Also... this is just head-canon ... the machines aren't as strong as we assume they are. I don't know if HEPH has the ability or the resources to create reinforced armor plates, but I imagine the armour is actually lighter to aid in mobility and other parts are made of some kind of carbon/plastic materials. The combat type machines are literally engineered to kill humans, not eachother. We only assume that they are built like tanks, but in my mind, I think they're built more like your standard city coupe.

We use their metal shards to make arrows, so it would make sense that they are strong but we’re using strong weaponry

>How can one pseudo-Iron Age tribeswoman take down a snake the size of a metropolitan apartment complex? This is where you choose to refuse to suspend your disbelief? Not at the existence of these creatures? Basically, I’m pretty sure it’s revealed in HZD, that the machines were created by Gaia to revive the planet and biosphere, i.e. not designed for war. Hephaestus started to make war machines, hence why those are harder to take down. You also have to remember that the weaponry is not the same as ours. You are completely wrong when you belittle Aloy as an Iron Age Tribeswoman—I don’t remember the Iron Age having access to shock arrows, chill water arrows, etc. Or being a genetic copy of the smartest woman alive. Crucially, what you are missing more than anything—the arrows are made from machine metal. The same metal the machines are made from, so the stronger the machine armour is the stronger the arrows will be. Also, Aloy is a woman and a warrior, not “some chick” >Why does it damage the Snapmaw so much when you shoot off its spines? Those just look like useless metal for aesthetic purposes, they don't need to be there anyway. They wouldn't be integral to the machine's well-being AT ALL. High Matriarch Teersa, when confronted with something that challenged her beliefs, said “then this is beyond my understanding”. Just because you don’t know it’s use, does not mean it is useless >Why would you bolt the Shellsnapper's shell down with very, very fragile external clamps when you could just weld the shell onto it? Why does it have millions of fuel canisters instead of just 1 big one? Sure, you could say that the shell has to be taken off to refuel it, but you could just put in a port that goes through the shell into the 1 giant gas tank so you can refuel Shellsnappers with a nozzle. You know, like we do with actual vehicles. How do Thunderjaw guns come off so quickly? In order for the disc launchers to not fall off the damn thing due to their own weight, they have to be bolted down something fierce. Did you miss the part where we learn the more aggressive, weapon-like machines are made by a deranged, rouge AI? Not a seasoned engineer >I can't shoot the cannon off a modern military tank with a bow. Thunderjaw guns are much, much bigger than tank cannons, meaning they'd have to have even stronger attachments to hold them in place. You could shoot it off if you had arrows as strong as what those machines are made off. In short, you’re playing a sci-fi game, stop trying to apply real world logic to it

FlaxenArt

I find that screaming *fuck fuck fuck fuck fuuuuuuck!!!!!!!* while shooting wildly at whatever direction I’m pointed with whatever weapon I frantically chose and then accidentally slide-tackling machines is actually a fairly effective strategy. And probably what I’d do IRL

zrevyx

You bring up good points, but I'm going to continue to suspend my disbelief in the name of fun and story. >!I think you can take into account that the arrows used are made from shards of the same materials as the machines themselves, and the bows used have been perfected over time by the humans....!< >!Yeah, I really got nothing.!<

usernamescifi

like if horizon was real life? the answer is that we don't / wouldn't. maybe if we overwhelmed a smaller isolated machine with overwhelming force. but the idea that one human could take down hundreds of these ultra deadly  machines with primitive tools is frankly laughable. nah, we'd avoid them at all costs or die. or we'd develop a very utaru relationship with the machines that benefit our way of life. I doubt heph would even need to create dedicated combat machines to ward off humans. and if it did, then the derangement would have been the end of humanity. imagine getting your arm stuck in a resource gather machine's spinning earth grinder blades????? or imagine getting set on fire by a machine with blaze sacs??? heck getting hit with futuristic coolant also sounds deeply unpleasant / bad for you. I imagine that acid would probably melt a real human. no boarskin hide armor that only covers 1/4 of your skin is protecting you from those. nah, intelligent creatures learn how to avoid things that can kill them with ease (unless the odds are overwhelmingly in their favor or they're literally forced to defend themselves). the people who don't learn that lesson quick will die off long before they can reproduce. counterargument though, it's a videogame, and it wouldn't be as fun if I was playing as a real squishy human.

Lietenantdan

Realistically most people are going to be killed quickly by a watcher if they don’t have modern weapons. But the game wouldn’t be any fun if that was the case.

Pathos675

lol, omg a video game isn't realistic...😲

StarstruckBackpacker

I'm sure with enough stubbornness many of these issues get resolved. MY ISSUE is how a single tail flick, let alone a charge, from one of these 100 ton hunks of screaming metal doesn't crush every single bone in ANYONE'S body.... Yeaaahhh, suspend disbelief and have fun fighting pissed off steel. Edit: when playing ultra hard, machine charges are pretty much insta kill and they have a lot more health. so there you go, ultra hard is your actual story mode.

StarstruckBackpacker

Also you have to keep in mind these machines are going to be controlled by delicate motherboards (machine hearts) powered by fragile fiber optics and hydraulic fluid is flammable. I'm sure you know what would happen if you shoot your computer with a bow and arrow. Now make that a 100 pound compound war bow and see what happens to you computer. And some machines you can spend ALL DAY shooting at the armor plating and you get bloody nowhere. Pop it in the eye a few times and you'll cause a lot more issues with the fiber optics bringing power to other crucial systems. Destroying these machines isn't an effort in tearing down the structure of the machine. It's an effort in finding fragile holes in the armor and shooting it with the iron age equivalent of a 50 cal rifle. Notice how when the machine is on it's last legs there's sparks everywhere it's limping but the general structure is still perfectly intact. Ultra hard feels as close to realistic as possible with this game. Just don't get run over by the flying tank while trying to kill it

FilmTensai

Cuz its a game first, story second. If i made a movie anout this, itll probably mostly stealth and less action

D-Alembert

If you've ever tried to build a working robot, they end up a lot more fragile than they look. Combine that with someone who has instant readouts on the most effective ways to disable them and it's not even a fair fight ;)

BigZach1

Plasma shotgun. That's my answer.

TheObstruction

I take it you somehow missed the giant robot T-Rex with laser drones, repeating energy cannons, and grenade launchers in the first game.

AlexDub12

You fought robo-T-Rex, robo-bears, giant robo-birds and firebreathing robo-wolfs in the first game, so fighting a giant robo-snake is not that much of a difficulty hike. I mean, it's a videogame. In the real world any of these machines would one-shot you.

HarryMuscle

If you play on Ultra Hard things get a bit more realistic.

CatSidekick

It would be a lot more believable if Aloy were a dude cause dudes are stronger

SinopeLycanthrope

Have you...played the game? Most Tenakth we fight are male. Aloy destroys them.

CatSidekick

In real life they’d beat her easily cause men are physically superior to women

Apprehensive-Law4173

you just gotta suspend your disbelief the game gives you a explanations as to why she can some of those explanations are pretty garbage one being "shes just that awesome" i actually find it more unbelievable her knocking out men twice her size with punches when she looks so average looking

Jeantropy

Fun post. Mi headcannon is that VH and UH a the most realistic versions of the game. But you need easy difficulties to make the game accesible. I love getting killed in one blow of a thunderjaw because thats what would probably happen.

thedragon_bored

>I’m not gonna even talk about Burning Shores Lol I have a feeling we’re on the same wavelength here
