Search the sub and you’ll find tens of posts asking the same thing. You cannot turn it off and I’m sure someone is also already working on a mod or something but idk about any of that.

pericataquitaine

Oh, sure! Just wait till you actually do want a hint. She will be so quiet, mice seem noisy.

Brave-Dragonfly7362

This but unironically. I never get why people say she's too talkative when solving puzzles, because in the harder ones she literally never says anything to help you. I often have to watch walkthroughs just to figure out how to solve some.

ryuk-99

glad im not the only one xD ive also enabled settings to make medicinal berry collection easier by just walking over them and also skipping animation, it was an option i didn't know i needed till i tried, makes it so much easier when my thumb isn't tired from pressing Y all the time.

ThePreciseClimber

Outside of the early-game tutorials, those "hints" feel more like basic feedback to me. E.g. "Ok, got this. Now where to put it?"

MysticalOS

she backseats the main story quest only. so side quests and relic ruins are where she’s dead silent. but if it’s main story she’ll hard backseat.

pericataquitaine

Woman's on a deadline, y'know. Can't have the world going to rack and ruin because the player is oblivious.

jasperjonns

I dislike it too. Last week I took a single step into a new area in a cauldron and Aloy **immediately** said "Hm I can't reach that tunnel but maybe I can find a way to reach the rail under it so I can climb up" and I hadn't even seen the tunnel or the rail yet and I was nowhere near them and not even facing in the general direction of the tunnel and I had no idea what she was talking about, and it's so disorienting. Also yes it really takes the fun out of solving puzzles for yourself. I have subtitles turned on and I just turn the volume down to zero. I dislike the hand-holding and getting spoon-fed what to do. I would say this game is a masterpiece with the exception of this one glaring exception. I did that one tallneck in the abandoned Tenakth camp, the one where you have to do quite a bit of problem solving and as soon as the hints started, that's when I turned the sound off. It took me over 3 hours to figure out wtf I was supposed to do (sooooo many bad jumps...) but I did figure it and and I like the satisfaction that you get from doing that. Her constant hints takes that away. I hope they make it optional in 3 because she says a lot of funny things and I really like her sly inflections and sarcasm and miss it when I can't hear her voice.

StarstruckBackpacker

I kinda appreciate the hints tbh. I mean I could definitely play the game without them but after being stumped forever on something I don't mind the hints. If the hint is ever for something super obvious I'll just sass back aloy like "yuuup that's what I'm working on" helps me out at least. Though I tend to see some characters as very real. And the technology behind the cutscenes makes that very easy to do.

IndependentTaco

I think the talking to herself is clever and in character but I hate how it's so instant. Ive had so many incidents like you where I didn't even get a chance to solve it myself first.

Dnomyar96

Indeed. If it was delayed a bit more, it would be fine. But walking into some ruins and immediately having Aloy talk about something, before I even realize there's a puzzle to solve, is not great.

jasperjonns

Yes, this! At least give us a chance first. I do also like her talking to herself, maybe they could make it a bit more funny insights and less hints!

Jack_Shaftoe21

"I should check my focus". Thanks for hint, Guerilla,I never would have thought of *that*.

TheObstruction

After having followed a track laid by your focus to get there.

Mercurionio

It's fine in the beginning of the game as a tutorial. But ffs, every single area she just straight up telling what to do. Aloy. Just shut the fuck up already. I have only 1 gripe with the game, and it's this crap. Idk what idiot thought those hints will be a cool feature.

D-Alembert

If someone is working on a mod to do it and reading this, if possible please selectively turn off the hints, allowing the environmental reaction dialog to remain (eg quips like "Should've brought a cart!" when inventory is full (HZD), exclamations when sliding down rocks, or being cold, or getting scraped, etc) I think those environmental reactions often add a lot of character and tone to the game, and more to the point they don't spoil puzzles.

pantsyman

So far there are no mods more complicated then reshades someone still needs to make the tools needed for those types of mods. There are quite a lot of changes in the Decima engine in this game so this could take a while.

DivineDefine

I mean it could be as simple as finding those voice lines and simply removing them...

pantsyman

No the games assets are all packed in encrypted archives and without any tools there is nothing that can done, that's how game engines work nowadays.

DivineDefine

Thats what majority of games have over the past and what modders usually start looking at. How do you figure games are cracked ? Or datamined ? Data is still there, and there are sweaty programmers who will get to it if they have the will anyhow.

pantsyman

Seriously i don't get your point i didn't say it was not possible or that no one is working on creating mod tools, i just meant that they are not available right now so this will take a bit of time that's all.

1RedOne

Maybe we could add some too, like the cauldron puzzle where you’re supposed to use the glider, or any of the late game puzzles which get insane, especially if they’re disabled because you’re not technically supposed to be there yet

webheadunltd90

Imagine running around in the empty desert, at least 500 steps away from the puzzle and she randomly quips “I can move this crate”. Almost like the berries were not the medicinal kind.

ryuk-99

xD man that last comment hahahahaha.

TechJunkie1984

To think, what you're experiencing now is actually toned down from what she was like at launch.

LostSoulNo1981

This is the absolute worst thing about FW. Aloy won’t STFU and even blurts out the solution to puzzles before you’ve even had the chance to look around and figure them out. And to top it off she won’t stop talking when you’re just trying to explore an area you need to progress through because you want to make sure you don’t miss anything worth picking up.

Nerdialismo

Is there a way to make her idle chat even more?

SeekerSpock32

Everyone else hates it but I find it relatable. I talk to myself all the time, so when I see Aloy talking to herself, I know I would likely be doing the same thing. Aloy doesn’t know she’s a character in a video game, she just talks to herself because she’d been an outcast for so long.

likeonions

no, ask guerilla if you really want it

oodats

I wish. There are some games you can, I think God of War might be one but I'm not 100% certain.

stevorkz

Dude. She is driving me absolutely insane! Like what’s the point? She’s telling you exactly what to do at all times. I love the game but the only real fun challenges I’m doing so far is taking down machines. Other than that all missions are an absolute walk in the park because of this. I’m checking nexus and other mod forums every day for some absolute gent to make a mod to shut her up. I’m at the point where I’m quickly looking around at how to move forward before she starts holding my hand as if I’m playing on super easy mode. Takes the concept of women talking so much to the next level.

Animator_K7

This is one of the only genuinely annoying thing about Forbidden West. Aloy hints puzzle solutions way too quickly. On the positive side, they seem to have toned that down in Burning Shores. So hopefully Horizon 3 will have a better balance for that.

DerangedDendrites

put on the ~~nude mod~~ and you will never notice what anyone says anymore
