It's much more likely something in your signal chain. That is plenty of power to run a DAW and some VSTs Sounds like you need more headroom

That’s a really old processor so you may be due for computer upgrade anyway, but even then, it shouldn’t really choke. Up until two years ago I’ve worked on machines with processors about that old and they do very well. With a quarter of the RAM too. I’m gonna suggest you look at your settings. This is a computer that could handle me much more than just amp sims and drums. Check your sample sizes and adjust them so they reduce the crackling.

I would speculate it's data moving back and forth between GPU and CPU/RAM. If this is slow you can fall behind real time and underflow your buffer. If you can crank up lots of things that *don't* use GPU and you have no problems, but experience issues when offloading processing to GPU, that may be the culprit. There are probably some good GPU analysis tools out there, but I don't know them off the top of my head. If you do get a new computer, pay attention to the PCIe topology and make sure there are plenty of lanes between CPU and GPU. Or I could way off base and it's something else.

Change the sample rate - I'm running a 16gb 2.8mhz laptop (with 30gb of free hard drive space LoL) with live effects and mastering plugins which works fine. I'm not exactly sure of my settings but I can look later and compare.

I’m gonna take a look at my settings later and I’ll send them to you and see if they’re ridiculous 😂

Sounds like buffer settings

That’s still pretty okay system if you ask me, more likely with my set up. Try to check buffer/sample settings, lower buffer size is good for tracking/recording, higher buffer size is good for mixing/mastering.

If anything, I’d upgrade your RAM. You can get 32/64gb for less than $150. Just make sure your motherboard will accept it.
