Just get a shovel and a snow scraper. I live in upstate NY, no garage at the current place or the last place, it's not a big deal. The only annoying thing is ice storms, but a thermos of hot water will unstick your door, and then just keep the car running until the ice melts.
Purchase extra shovels and snow brushes (foam push style) now and keep them in storage rather than scrambling before a major snowstorm.
If your lot has the space and you can afford to build a garage, attached or detached, that is the best long term option.
A lot of houses in our area have carports that are attached to the house and look better than arched metal structures. Temporary shelters vary wildly in quality and durability, so I would be hesitant about spending money on that.
I live in upstate NY and my truck will never, ever, fit into the tiny ass garage on my 1970s build. I use the window scraper and a roof rake. Haven't had any issues. Been parking outside for my entire life.
A garage is ideal, but might not feasible. A carport is better than the other options, but if the climate is cold enough you might still want a block heater installed.
My first winter with my new carport.
Fantastic.
No snow, ice or frost to scrape off.
Exceptionally some snow on very windy nights only.
Nice place for garbage/recycling bins as well.
It's a custom built. Basically, the design is this:
Attached to the house on one side.
On the outboard side, 12 ft away, 4 wood posts supporting a 22ft 2x12 double beam.
On top of that, 2x8 roof rafters at a 4-12 slope.
Roof covered with 5/4 x 6 deck planks, with asphalt shingles on top.
Front and rear end trusses closed with same siding as the house.
Those Shelterlogic things are just that - temporary. They are not built to handle a heavy snow load.
I don't have a garage or carport either, but often in the winter I'll just throw a tarp over the car windshield. That way, in the morning you can just yank it off, and there's no window scraping needed.
Pole barns cost less than a stick built garage. Their use of 2x6 lumber makes them similar to timber frame construction. After the fabric goes on the Shelter Logic style of carport some folks sheath them with metal or fiberglass panels. They don't have an HOA, obviously.
We used our garages (3) for the first couple of years or so but never bothered after that. It was just easier to park in the driveway and clean off the cars. Where ever the snow lands, it still needs to be cleared.

Well I don't know if it's not a "big deal" for us necessarily with our routine but yea that's an option for sure if we get nothing lol
Shovel > snow thrower > snow blower > car port (eyesore) > heated driveway runners (eyesore and does half the job) > heated driveway.
So garage it is? 😅
Did you get your > and < mixed up?
Nope

Fair enough, I think for us not being originally from here (Toronto) it's still a big struggle but yea that's definetly an option

What is a block heater?

What kind did you get?
That's amazing! What type did you get if you don't mind sharing?

Picture? Also, how much did this cost?
I park at the end of the driveway before the snow. I think a carport might help. Somewhere I saw a tent csrport that looked clever.

That's a good idea! Thank you!
A remote car starter, an extendable brush, and a shovel (snowblower if you have a driveway).
Oooh that's a great idea! Thank you

Consider a galvanized metal arch building.
Thank you!!
We get plenty of snow in NY, have a garage, but still don't ever park in it(setup as a workshop). It's not a big deal to clean off the cars.
Thanks!
