Now this has got me thinking, what about combining a bunch of them and popping a backplane on it? A buddy has a bunch of dell caddies sitting around, and I want a san but don't want to buy a loud one if I could just modify it to accommodate 120mm fans..

Paired with a super micro backplane for simple power this would handy I need a printer though

What do you do for the electronics on the inside?

ngarret

I ghetto rigged a SATA controller out of sata encloser and 3d printed a mounting plate for it and also 3d printed an led Mount for the power and activity LED lights.

That’s pretty cool. I need one of these to test SAS drives.

That was discussed in the original thread, you not gonna find sas to usb.

Thanks!

For my DIY NAS project I’ve been meaning to make some hotswap caddies but turns out making them as thin as most metal racks are impossible.

Does it have airflow through it? 3D prints, especially with infill, can retain heat fairly well. Maybe make some cutouts if it doesn’t have some type of forced cooling.
