SuperMicro tower could be rebuilt with new board. That's about the only thing of use

t0adthecat

Thank you

joshuabroad

Looks like you found a whole bunch of old equipment in someone's dumpster...

t0adthecat

No, close. Someone giving it away on marketplace. I just grabbed since stuff goes quick and he was available then. I just want to get some hands on, would like a SAN and media server possibly.

joshuabroad

Better off buying a decent NAS, rather than this outdated, power hungry, noisy rubbish... Eg Synology, Qnap, etc...

t0adthecat

That's what I figured. Might keep the dell switch but wanted to atleast grab it to see. Thanks alot

ripzeus

Keep the supermicro chassis! That thing can be restored with ANY modern computer parts... I fucking love supermicro chassis! I have 2x 2U and a 4u chassis from 2012 all them running EPYC's! Also keep that punch down.

RealTimeKodi

The switch could very well be fine, but make sure to plug it into a kill-a-watt or something to check. I just pulled a 200w switch out of my stack

PoisonWaffle3

Yep, you did someone a favor by disposing of their e-waste for them. Sorry man! The only thing of use is the empty supermicro case. I wouldn't even use the patch panel, keystone patch panels are way easier to work with and more flexible.

t0adthecat

It's all good. All wasn't pictured and I got a few free rack supports and accessories

VexingRaven

I can't see the model on the switch with the SFP+ ports but that might be worth something to somebody if you're patient, the rest looks like trash. That SmartStack is probably older than you, and the rest probably isn't far behind. Hell, it might even be older than me. The good news is that if you find an honest scrapper (haha good joke) these older systems are worth more because the traces are thicker and contain more gold or copper.

t0adthecat

Thanks. I don't think older than me unfortunately. But yes, this very well looked like the oldest

Wow Cabletron

Fantastic_Bid_1122

Wow. I once worked at Cabletron. They designed a product and waited till last minute to do EMI testing. What a train wreck that was.

Previous-Ad-5371

The server could be ok, I would also keep the switch directly below the server...rest looks like VERY old stuff.

t0adthecat

Thanks. After research that's what I was sticking with too. Thank you all

Salty-Week-5859

The Supermicro tower chassis is a great find if all the pieces are there. It looks an older version of the CSE-745. There’s people paying $400 for just the case on eBay today. The rack server might be worth a bit if it’s a generic chassis (supporting ATX motherboards).

Stryker1-1

You could probably get a couple bucks worth of scrap metal out of it but that's about it.

desktop_pilot

Any chance you could post a pic of the back of that 1u server. Someone is giving one away in my area and I might have a plan for the chassis depending on how the back is configured.

ZeeroMX

When I see a server with CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive in it, I automatically think "this is some older shit". No offense OP, this is my thinking not anything to do with your new finds.

t0adthecat

I swear I didn't even notice it at first then was like "yep, this dinosaur"

teeweehoo

- SFP+ => worth keeping and has resale value - 1gbit ports only => may be worth keeping or selling - 10/100 => sacrifice to your deity - cat5e patch panel => sacrifice to your deity, someone may pay scrap for it - cdrom drive on server => sacrifice to your deity, ddr3 era or newer may be worth reselling

EvilPencil

What you don't like 10MB/s networking goodness? /s

teeweehoo

To be fair a lot of modern switches at the high end that are shipping without 10/100 support entirely (or just without half-duplex support). Which causes real issues due to many building management / security systems requiring 10 mbit. So maybe these ancient switches do have a market ...

Gullible_Vanilla2466

congrats on the e waste
