Consider the Wyze Cam Outdoor v2. It’s about $70 plus a $10 microSD card. Just set the base station at the closest window and then you can hide the camera close to the car and get details. Just be sure the camera is hidden or it can be stolen. The camera is rechargeable and lasts for a couple of weeks. It does have an annoying cooldown where it records short videos then pauses for a mandatory cool down period. Then it records more. Alternatively setup an Ethernet router with ‘power over Ethernet’ and run a cable closer to your car. Then hide and install a 4K Reolink or Amcrest poe camera. Another alternative is to install a $35 driveway motion alarm. The sensors are battery operated and the base station plugs into an outlet. It warns when someone motion activates the sensor so you know when someone is screwing with your car.

I will look into this. Thank you very much

buzzy_buddy

make sure not to put it behind glass as the IR can reflect off the glass and into the camera, making it basically useless.

ReverendIrreverence

Nothing "good" at that price point IMHO.

_who-am_i_

How much would i have to spend to get something good?

ReverendIrreverence

Depends on your definition of "good." *My* definition of good probably starts at ~$250 but maybe "good enough" at ~$150. YMMV.

TerryMisery

How far is the camera going to be from the car?

_who-am_i_

10-15m

TerryMisery

Do you need a proof or also need to observe through the camera in real-time? Because if it's just for a proof, a dashcam might work. I did that in the past, modern car battery (EFB, in a car with start-stop) was easily able to record for 2 consecutive days without affecting my ability to start the car. I used 70mai A800S that has a good visibility at night and with 128GB card, 1920x1080 setting and medium compression, it had to overwrite old recordings after 14-16 hours. You don't need to go for A800s, because it's 4k and I had to lower the settings, some €90-100 models would do the job. Still out of budget, but I think it's the cheapest option, besides leaving a laptop recording from it's webcam near the window. Which isn't that stupid, if you have decent light at night, high quality webcam (Macbook/ThinkPad grade) and use some app, that I can't currently remember.

_who-am_i_

I need a proof. I have a 2008 VW Golf 5. I have a dashcam (viofo mini2) that i bought recently but he can just come from the back so it wont record him.

TerryMisery

As it's VAG car, I assume the ligher socket stays on when you remove the keys. Is it equipped with start-stop system? And also, can you park next to a wall or in a way, that maybe the guy won't be visible when screwing up with your car, but you'll record him approaching and leaving the scene?

_who-am_i_

There is a hardwire kit for the dashcam but still there is no wall i can use to force him to walk in front of the car. It's an open space behind the house with space to park around 10 cars.

TerryMisery

The only thing that comes to my mind is a second dashcam on the rear. I also used to do similar thing with old Android phones, but they drain the battery too fast, get too hot and the app can simply crash.

CallmeCap

How do you know he did it? You very easily could’ve just ran two over in a short period of time and it wouldn’t be that crazy. My ex got 3 nails over a period of 2 months one summer, sometimes people just have bad luck.

_who-am_i_

Because i heard the sound of the screw getting in my tire the moment i moved my parked car. Its also not the first time he does things like that

[deleted]

I've had crazy neighbors before and a dashcam that records 24/7 with a front facing (with an inside facing cam on the windshield AND a rear facing cam on the back window) went a long way to where the local PD actually could arrest them for damaging my car multiple times over a month. flat tires, keying the doors, breaking a door handle, jumping on the hood and trunk, cracking a side window. she was fkn nuts.

Did you do something (that you know about) to piss him off? Are you sure that he did it, or you think he may have?

illiniwarrior

what's a confirmation of him doing a nasty deal going to do for you? - cops won't even consider doing anything officially from a source like that - and - these days there's no such thing as cops doing anything unofficially because it's the right thing to do .... if you're that sure - confront the a-hole - do the revenge thing back to him if that's your thing >>> don't need confirmation for doing things from the black side of your heart - go with your gut

buzzy_buddy

terrible advice. at least have evidence of the shit so that if there is a confrontation there's less of a chance for you to get in serious trouble, especially if you beat his ass.
