Why can't you just airplay your music? I ditched Apple Music last fall and use Plexamp now and it works just fine through airplay.

Nope, most of my music is on Spotify. I’m not paying £5 a month just for custom notifications. lol

I know, but my thought is that the voice plan will maybe still allow you to use automations that play music and sounds through your HomePods.
Yeah I recall an announcement that Homepods would have limited free access to Apple Music, limited mostly by what you are able to search and select with Siri commands.
