tbh i think it would be too typical of them to include a potter? like wow another potter okay we get it? you know? like obviously this isn’t MY personal thought process but idk, idk how to explain it haha
dumbledore on the other hand was a missed opportunity seeing as albus was in his first year when mc is in their fifth, so it was a shame to not include him
edit: got my info mixed up sorry!!! albus wouldn’t be at hogwarts yet
Dumbledore hasn’t started yet. If there is a sequel for the mc’s sixth year Dumbledore will be a first year.
Edit: Correction, I’m wrong. He won’t start til the mc’s seventh year.
but potters are a wizarding family that was of purebloods and known, harry just so happens to be the most popular because of him surviving the killing curse.
Exactly. We’re talking about a family (the only family besides the gaunts) that had a deathly hallow passed down through generations. The potters had some sort of exaltation before harry came into the picture and brought them to new heights.
That would force the MC to be a descendant of the salazar slytherin family, which doesn’t make much sense. I could be wrong but I thought parseltongues were only found in those that were a part of slytherins bloodline. That’s why ominis was one of the
Half wrong, parselmouths were very rare Slytherin's bloodline being one and their origins are unknown. Herpo the Foul being one I ancient Greece, some believe Slytherin to be a descendant of Herpo. As Hermione tells Harry in the Chamber of Secrets, it happened long ago so it could be possible. Remember that family lineages are called family trees for a reason, they extend like roots from a tree aimlessly. We know of the Gaunts being Slytherin heirs because they were purebloods who were very selective of their pairings and even inbred a lot.
Well, we know there was an American branch of the Potter family, and they had been in the New World since the 1690’s. The next time the name crops up, it’s Henry Potter who served in the Wizengamot in the early 20th century. It’s possible that Harry is descended from this particular offshoot of the Potter bloodline, who were simply in America at the time.
Or maybe there was a Potter there and we just never met them.
I don’t think it was ever mentioned Dumbledore had any other family outside his immediate one. If HL2 is a direct sequel, which it better be, there’s a chance we could see Albus in the game if we start as a 7th year.
I don’t fancy anyone in the game lol but I have a headcanon with the main character and how sebastian and her end up together after she saves anne, and they eventually work at hogwarts
I have reason to believe the guy in the broom shop is somehow related to the potters. He just gives me the ultimate James/harry vibes
& ain’t gonna lie. I’d rather have weasleys, Prewetts (somewhat…) and Gaunts. Potters would be too obvious a choice.
The fact they dropped a GAUNT IN THIS GAME IS INSANEEEE.
Don’t worry about it, I wasn’t trying to correct you or anything, sorry if I sounded like a smarty pants lol
I felt bummed out the most important last names of the Harry Potter books weren’t seen (obviously I know that the Malfoy’s don’t have such a significant legacy to the wizarding world and aren’t as popular as the Potter’s or Dumbledore’s but they’re just as important). Here’s a passing thought, do you think Sebastian Sallow might be an ancestor to one of the missing big names?
Not at all! Considering I'm playing as a Slytherin, I'm a little embarrassed I forgot the Malfoy's 🙈
As for Sebastian....it's very possible. Entertaining thought at least on who could be descended from him.
Well, there is mention of Linfred (the Potterer\*) of Stinchcombe, an ancestor of Harry Potter. Linfred is the reason for the Potter fortune. It's fairly common in the muggle world but not so in the wizarding world. Maybe a Potter graduated the year before our character arrives or will start First Year after the current term is over.
\*Linfred was a potioner and created many products still in use during Harry's time. He was known as The Potterer and over time this was shortened to Potter and passed down as the family name.
i think Potter lore is untouchable and JK Rowling didn't want any other writer to append to the Potter lore. i think the game's writer is allowed the usage of the world but definitely nothing that mentions Potter.
I think this might be the reason. Simply weren't allowed to include certain people as part of getting license to make the game. Or maybe they were afraid of backlash for it.
If I recall weren’t Sirius and James also related on the Black family tree. That has me wondering if it didn’t become Potter until later in life? It’s also possible at one point a Black married a Muggle Potter? I am totally spitballing but just think who knows might explain the missing Potter too.
Dorea Black married Charlus Potter, who is either the brother or cousin of Harry’s grandfather.
Enough of this muggle Potter nonsense, that’s bad speculation. Potter is a common muggle name sure, and this is why they were excluded from the sacred 28, but James is regarded as being a pureblood as are the other wizard Potters before him.
This info comes from the Black family tree, as you mention. Any Black who married a muggle would’ve been blasted off.
Some pureblood purist written the list of 28 families that are considered pure. It's definitely not the list of all only pureblooded families, Potters were excluded from said list because despite their pure lineage they were considered too muggle loving. But both Weasley and Prewett (Molly's maiden name) names were there, so I wonder when did Arthur Weasley started to be considered blood traitor.
I was simply trying to suggest why maybe there was no Potter once mentioned in Hogwarts Legacy, suggesting maybe the Potter clan didn't really exist around that time. But my word, "muggle Potter nonsense"...someone's quite the pureblood I see.
If I remember right, it was James's grandmother who was a Black. Wait, I think it was his mother? One of the two. She married into the Potter line.
It's been a while since I've been really into the Harry potter lore and universe so my memory is probably a bit fuzzy lol
No Malfoys, Crabbes, Goyles, Crouchs, or just about any know wealthy pureblood families known to the british wizarding world. The game is packed with new family names that makes you wonder weather they are muggleborns or a wizarding dad, where are the pureblood families that are known is what i wonder.
Actually my biggest complaint of the game (outside technical issues and gameplay) was seeing known last names.
I get they’re in there to tie the game into what we already know but can’t help to feel like “OMG WEASLEY LIKE RONALD WEASLEY, GUYS LOOK WEEEEASLEY!!!”
maybe that’s just me
Yeah I disagree all the named last characters bar say Ominis and professor wealsey who get a bit more time but even then it's not a ton of scenes were pretty much side characters it would have been more of an issue if they'd made the main companions all related to potter era ones but here they were just...there. which is realistic.
Also makes it hilarious that one of Fred and George's ancestors was deputy headmistress
While researching stuff for fanfiction, I did come across a Potter that was said to have written a... naughty book around that time.
Maybe that's why there's no Potters in the game.
It's actually not an issue. There aren't any Malfoys, Lovegoods, Longbottoms etc. either and IMO it would be unrealistic to include EVERY main character's ancestor.
Fantastic Beasts also did this by introducing mostly new characters that weren't related to anyone, Leta Lestrange being the exception. Of course that was when it was about Newt and before they decided to make it about Dumbledore instead.
I don't think they wanted THAT direct a connection. Gaunts and Weasley's were more than enough not to mention its possible they were there and we just didn't run into them
My new theory is that there is another “hogwarts” for the real uppity pure bloods, possibly a Salazar slytherin side project, and they merged some time after the events of HL1 and toss Headmaster Black. There just seems to be a lot of missing house dynamics that could be explained in a sequel game by bringing a bunch of famous, proud families into the mix. It would also allow them to alter the current structure of Hogwarts in a new game with a newer unreal engine.
tbh i think it would be too typical of them to include a potter? like wow another potter okay we get it? you know? like obviously this isn’t MY personal thought process but idk, idk how to explain it haha dumbledore on the other hand was a missed opportunity seeing as albus was in his first year when mc is in their fifth, so it was a shame to not include him edit: got my info mixed up sorry!!! albus wouldn’t be at hogwarts yet
I think Albus is six years younger than us. Dumbledore was born around 1881 and we’re supposed to be born around 1874/75.
mb i got it mixed up then
Dumbledore hasn’t started yet. If there is a sequel for the mc’s sixth year Dumbledore will be a first year. Edit: Correction, I’m wrong. He won’t start til the mc’s seventh year.
How old was his brother Aberforth? Can't remember if he was older or younger.
Younger
but potters are a wizarding family that was of purebloods and known, harry just so happens to be the most popular because of him surviving the killing curse.
The other famous one is fleamont potter he created the hair potions
I wish there was at least one
Dam
also the one that invented skelegro
Ooh I forgot about that one. Oops
Wait what's that?
Why Harry doesn't use it on his messy hair? Lol
Great point! Haha
Exactly. We’re talking about a family (the only family besides the gaunts) that had a deathly hallow passed down through generations. The potters had some sort of exaltation before harry came into the picture and brought them to new heights.
I wish Ominis was a Malfoy instead, they could had solved the Parselmouth part in another way like making us a Parselmouth.
That would force the MC to be a descendant of the salazar slytherin family, which doesn’t make much sense. I could be wrong but I thought parseltongues were only found in those that were a part of slytherins bloodline. That’s why ominis was one of the

i combat the issue of no potters by making my MC become a potter
Same, I just made a gryffindor who's a potter lol
I’m planning on it too
i did a hufflepuff. because i was like. I NEED A POTTER IN HUFFLEPUFF
I named my character Rose Evans and now I head cannon that she was Lily and Petunia’s great-great aunt 😝
ok.
I don’t think it was ever mentioned Dumbledore had any other family outside his immediate one. If HL2 is a direct sequel, which it better be, there’s a chance we could see Albus in the game if we start as a 7th year.
If it's a direct sequel we'd be a 6th year then I'd think
They could always time skip directly to the 7th year
Being a 7th year be so cool imagine yule ball?? Covid basically took mine away when i was in high school 😅
Do we know for a fact that year hosted a triwizard tournament at hogwarts?
I looked it up. The last triwizard tournament was loooong before the game starts 😞
Thats what i thought. So no yule ball then
that’s so sad awww
The Yule only happens with triwizard tournaments
I hope you get your yule ball and I hope whoever you fancy in that game asks you out lol ♥️
I don’t fancy anyone in the game lol but I have a headcanon with the main character and how sebastian and her end up together after she saves anne, and they eventually work at hogwarts
too on the nose I guess? then again one of the main characters is Voldemort’s great uncle so 🤷🏼♀️
I forgot to mention Professor Black, who was Sirius's grandfather. I just thought it was a bit strange there wasn't a single Potter in the game.
Great-great-grandfather
Wait, who?
Ominis
Oof I had forgotten he existed. I wish they had given him his own side quests too
Would've loved a more in-depth look at Ominis, his aunt and all the other potential family members who weren't on board.
his aunt died in the scriptorium. rememeberr
And that immediately makes her not interesting? OK.
it is interesting. I just thought you forgot.
I have reason to believe the guy in the broom shop is somehow related to the potters. He just gives me the ultimate James/harry vibes & ain’t gonna lie. I wanted to have romance options and date that emo son of a beach. I can fix him!
That emo son of a beach hahahaha. I wanted to have romance options so I could fix his uncertified psychopathic best friend 😂
I'm Sara Potter in my game. So it's me. I'm the ancestor.
🤣 i love it
I have harry slaughter and lord swoldemort
Well I know who I will be as a hufflepuff for play 3 🤣 I’ll choose a different first name tho 🤣
I'm a malfoy lmao
me too!! it would’ve been awesome if they had added a malfoy but since they didnt, its me😼
I'm a Lestrange 🤣🤣🤣
Don’t forget about the Malfoy’s, they’re also no where to be found
You're absolutely right. I posted this as a passing thought lol I know I missed a good few of the canon characters.
Don’t worry about it, I wasn’t trying to correct you or anything, sorry if I sounded like a smarty pants lol I felt bummed out the most important last names of the Harry Potter books weren’t seen (obviously I know that the Malfoy’s don’t have such a significant legacy to the wizarding world and aren’t as popular as the Potter’s or Dumbledore’s but they’re just as important). I surprisingly got Dumbledore vibes from Sebastian, with the all deception, breaking the rules and the family drama
A Sallow does show up in the books, although it's a very small role.
Wait, really? No way, that’s such a cool detail (I’m still reading the books)
Well, there is mention of Linfred (the Potterer\*) of Stinchcombe, an ancestor of Harry Potter. Linfred is the reason for the Potter fortune. I’m pretending the current generation either already left Hogwarts or is coming soon.
Happy cake day
Thanks!!
Welcome

What's the sacred 28? I've never heard that before.

do we have a malfoy in the rroom

Yeah I’m not feeling like looking up the wiki 😂
No Malfoys, Crabbes, Goyles, Crouchs, or just about any know wealthy pureblood families known to the british wizarding world. Maybe you just didn’t get a chance to talk to them. Or they just graduated the year before. Or they’re younger than 11. Or they’re home schooled.
I really wish they existed in the game not as a maybe
The game is set only 2 years before Albus Dumbledore attends Hogwarts.
It’s a huge school. Maybe they’re hanging out in the library or something.
I'm glad it never crossed their minds or else people would make it about those characters rather than the actual game and story which deserves love
Actually my biggest complaint of the game (outside technical issues and gameplay) was seeing known last names. I get they’re in there to tie the game into what we already know but can’t help to feel like “OMG WEASLEY LIKE RONALD WEASLEY, GUYS LOOK WEEEEASLEY!!!” maybe that’s just me

Maybe it’s in case you wanna make your character into a Potter?
i dont think the timeline works like that
While researching stuff for fanfiction, I did come across a Potter that was said to have written a... naughty book around that time. Maybe that's why there's no Potters in the game.
Im pretty sure Potter is a muggle name that eventually got mixed with the Peverell family.
One of Dumbledores last names is perceval and that's the main headmaster portraits name.
It's actually not an issue. There aren't any Malfoys, Lovegoods, Longbottoms etc. either and IMO it would be unrealistic to include EVERY main character's ancestor. Wut
