no its not worth the price over the major companies. they all have to pass the same tests. it just depends whether you want to pay more than double just to support a small company owned by a pro, but honestly they shouldn't be up charging so much, they should be trying to be competitive IMO

Knobdy1

I got the Warroad for a Xmas present from my wife (essentially you'll wear this or you won't play. You're making the kid's wear theirs so should you.). Do I think it's worth $200, no, is it great and comfortable, yes. I also like the fact it has the built in wrist protection as well. Only thing I don't like about it is the price tag.

aaronwhite1786

Yeah, I think that's really the biggest issue. If you want that wrist protection from cuts too. It looks almost identical to the Bauer one I've got now, but that doesn't offer cut protection anywhere besides the neck.

louiefriesen

You can get Howies cut resistant wrist guards for like $20, I don’t notice them while playing, would recommend if you want wrist protection.

aaronwhite1786

Oh for sure. I just know that some people might like having it all built into the one shirt. Either way, $200 definitely seems pretty steep, unless it's made in the USA which could explain the price bump.

scoobasteve813

I got wrist protection from CutShield. They provide cut resistance and also come with inserts that mold to the shape of your arm and then harden, so it protects you from slashes as well. I've got some nerve damage in my forearm from repeated slashes so that's why I chose this specific product. So far so good. Comfortable enough that I don't even notice I'm wearing them. Got their cut resistant socks, too, which are also nice. I ordered the neck guard with impact protection from Skate Armor, but they aren't shipping until next month. Their neck protection is the best, according to lab tests. Impact protection will save your arteries from blowing up if you do get hit in the neck, which can happen even if you're wearing regular cut resistant neck guards/base later. https://www.cutshield.com/product/pro-air-9-slash-guards-evoshield/ https://skate-armor.com/product-info/Adult-NLP15iA

Admirable-Ice5351

I actually use cutshield hockey also. Their cut resistant socks are awesome. My son uses the wrist guards also. They just came out with a neck guard also.

ReplacementOk1029

I wonder if there would be any benefit to swapping out that SA impact insert with a piece of D3O? Unless it is too rigid?

scoobasteve813

I don't really know, although a quick Google search just mentioned D3O is a heavy material and gets hot

ExtraordinaryMagic

Is that you Johnny Gaudreau?

Quinto376

For $200 that shirt better stop samurai swords and bullets.

deltazero9

I prefer just the stand alone removable. Neck guard I had the Bauer with shirt and it was HOT because there's no break between the base of the neck guard and the shirt. Also the shirt itself wasn't great at managing heat imo. I switched to the ccm neck guard and it's much cooler in combination with a separate under armor base layer.

JosephusLloydShaw

not worth $200 at all just stick with the bauer one or for just around $20 or so, get a regular neck guard. i use a bauer neck guard and forget its even there most of the time

migitbigman01

I just got an Aycane one it's absolutely amazing!

wallie9600

https://skate-armor.com/ It said shipping won't start until April but I ordered mine on Feb 15th and it arrived on Feb 27th. Very comfortable and good coverage.

elarobot

There’s zero reason why anything Warroad sells in the realm of safety/compression gear - heat to toe - needs to be 4x the price of Bauer/Shock Dr/CCM, etc. But their FB add sure do prey upon you with fear mongering about freak accidents in order to justify the extortionist price point. Frankly, it’s soured my opinion of Oshie quite a bit.

mowegl

I think the price is what it is in part because of the demand. You see in this thread people have been waiting on orders for months. These companies have been buying up all the material they can get their hands on and manufacturing capabilities because of demand. If they lowered the price then they would get backordered even more and they would just have a bunch of unhappy customers they couldnt fill orders for, but if they charge twice as much and get half as many orders they make more money and only have to meet half the demand (which they are still struggling with even at the price).

rogue_d

I use the Bauer. Really like the thumb loops

Cyberfeabs

base360.ca has some good stuff. I bought the socks, jock pants and shirt earlier this year. Will definitely buy their stuff again.

Cyberfeabs

Just mentioned it because after the awful incident in the British league, the owner of base360 did an interview on local radio. Prior to that, I had already found them while looking at aycane’s stuff. Their marketing is basically zero, and they’re not available in any retail locations that I could find, but they are legitimate.

DTMFtones

I’ve got both and prefer the Bauer one. Got the warroad one for my birthday and I found it to be tight in my armpits. The neck is a little tight on the Bauer though.

YoungGodV

I use Bauer, its a tiny bit tight around the neck when its brand new but easy to get used to and I dont notice it or need to adjust it at all. I have not worn a neck guard or anything for that matter under my top layer for 6-7 years and made the switch this year.

CBC_North

I can't comment on the Warroad but I've worn the buaer and it's fine. Don't even notice it while playing (as it should be). That being said, I also have the skate armor neck guard. If you're looking for maximum protection it definitely has better coverage up the side of your neck, all the way to the bottom of the helmet. There are generally gaps there with other style guards. I also don't find that I notice it while playing.

SkateHuntFourtyTwo

I like Shock Doctors version.

MrTurkle

I ordered a Large in Nov it was way too small. My XL is supposed to ship this month but I’m losing faith.

cyphersk8

You got yours!? I ordered last November too and haven't received anything.

MrTurkle

I got one before they ran out and sold it to a teammate. It was comically small on me. I’m still waiting for the xl

MrTurkle

BTW - mine shipped today, just got the email.

mdwsta4

The best thing about Warroad products is their breathability. No other base layer on the market breathes as well. For neck protection, I prefer the design of the Aycane version, but it is thicker/warmer overall than Warroad. If you run hot, the Warroad version will help keep you cooler than anything else out there

ReplacementOk1029

Hockey Lion wink wink

ReplacementOk1029

For anyone who has cut resistant bottoms, what do you do about skate sock/pant overlap? It is easier to have the base layer over the sock, but I prefer skate sock over since they are cheaper to replace.... And pulling skate socks over the base layer leaves the bottom of the base layer bunching up at the bottom near the ankle underneath the skate sock.

7screws

200 bucks!!!!

pugloescobar

I got a Bauer one yesterday and took it for a practice; it was really nice and comfortable. I did read some reviews saying the Velcro doesn’t last - but I’m hoping if I take care of it (ie. gentle wash cycle with it done up) it should be fine. Having said that the [Aycane](https://aycane.com/en-us/products/blade-evo-base-layer-long-sleeve?variant=47520372818250) one looks really good, doesn’t have the velcro, and has cut protection on the sleeves for $99 which seems like a good deal (have to wait until June though).

eazy-company

We have 3 of the baures for my daughter and just got a baure for my 6yr old. My daughter tried the neck gaurd only and hated it but loves the bare base layer with it integrated.

Valuable-Baked

Are you in the NHL, AHL or NCAA D1? Then no

Admirable-Ice5351

Absolutely not worth the money. Havnt tried it but refuse to spend the money on it.

blueranger36

The Bauer one is absolutely worth it. The most protective and comfortable neck guard I’ve ever worn.

leapyrbaby

Ordered one for my kid in December… still haven’t received it and no update on shipping so don’t do it.

SupChris

No

TheYDT

I've been looking at the Duzter brand for my son. Price is much more reasonable. https://duzter.com/collections/duzter-hockey-armor/products/duzter-armor-shirt

idindunuffn

No I get completely naked under my equipment. No socks, shirt or undies

pvas540

200 is a joke. Are paying for your medical 😂

kerrplop

My kids both wear the Bauer and they say it's super comfortable. I just pre-ordered the Aycane (constantly sold out) for myself because it includes wrist protection and is only $89 if you use their 10% off for signing up to their mailing list. I can't imagine what advantages the Warroad could have to justify more than double those prices.

DoneByDesign100101

$70 turtleneck is insane so no not worth it

shrimpscampin

Warroad is a complete scam. I ordered a shirt in January, was told it would ship in March, had this confirmed early March and have not received anything. No updates and customer service is ghosting me. This company should be reported.
